It's mainly because this whole "rebrand" is beyond inauthentic and a caricature of what she thinks "bad girl rebellion adulting" is and i wish i didn't know of this person's existence, quite honestly ....
She seems like an 8 y/o who made a wish to become an adult, became one overnight, and is desperately trying hard to prove to us that she’s grown up. Basically, “I’m an adult, honest I am! Look! I can say ‘fuck’! Oooo!!!”
Firstly, I know very little about her, and I'm grateful for that. AND I feel badly for her because she SO desperately wants to be loved and respected. But as you said, she hasn't earned ANY of that. She's catapulting herself into legendary status, in her mind, VERY prematurely. Legends are remembered for generations. She's already been forgotten, except by those who mock her. She has put NO work into being anything but a joke. I truly hope she can express herself artistically ONLY if she is truly an artist, which I think she is not. I think a person is born an artist and expression of one's self artistically is not a choice, it's a need. She's taken NO real chances. She's not "brave" nor daring, nor edgy by any measure... possibly by Nickelodeon standards. (Barf). I hope she finds happiness someday, because she seems very empty and lost. The need for validation is eating her up, as she's always sought that externally in the form of public acceptance. She needs to let that go, because it's nowhere to be found for her. Find your passion. Find your voice. Have something to say. Create art, then put on the costume and makeup ONLY IF it's an extension of your artistic message. Empty vessels are not interesting, edgy, nor entertaining to anyone... at ALL. Just stop it. Stop being something you are not, except desperate. Stop that too. Immediately. Oh yeah, stop being dishonest... about EVERYTHING. Shut down your delusions, girl. One Love ✌️

Her comment about her whole inner circle being excited about her doing the whole adult/sexual switch up when she was still a child, is highly disturbing to me. And when has becoming an adult artist become synonymous with sexual songs and themes?
Thats just the classic Hollyweird programming. Everyone went through the same eyes wide shut textbook...Miley, Billie Eilish, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera...the list goes on. You are groomed to serve this demonic pimpin industry or you are out. Even the ones that started as adults get the turn...Katy Perry and Rihanna started out as wholesome christian singers and then we got "I kissed a girl" and "S&M".💩
I guess she’s desperately trying to show that she’s an adult and not a child anymore. She wants everything ‘in your face’, the swearing and the humping, anything to rip off her identity as a child-friendly figure. Which, of course, didn’t work at all. She ended up looking like a child dressing up thinking this is how adults dress up.
the one thing i love, is the attention for Brit Smith, after decades, she's now in her late 30s, this is her time to shine. hope all her music is a success from this moment
Apparently her version of Karma was released and it’s done better than Siwa’s and she mentioned releasing her unreleased LP or something so she seems to be pretty happy and taking it pretty good.
"The child star turned young adult pop star is so common that the series Bojack Horseman had a character that was a parody of that tragic trope years ago. Isnt that right Sarah Lynn? Sara Lynn??

It's a weird byproduct of those who haven't put in the work to find their identity or who have high insecurity and wanna latch onto something other than their percieved lame selves.
The edgy and bad started with Smokin Jay Hawkins He was performing in caskets, hearsts , coffins and holding snakes, iguanas, spiders and other bugs while he performed in the 1930s-40s Then Chuck Berry, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Grace Jones and Sylvester Of course then Michael Jackson, Madonna , Prince, Nene Cherry and Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus The thing about all of them is they never apologized and owned it some even said "Fuck you" in their songs or performances And they never said they're "changing" the genre publicly Their goals was to not be limited by the standards As Michael Jackson said best "Art should NEVER be told what art is, it speaks for itself"
They did put on a show called dancemoms ran by a crazy karen, abby lee miller, screaming and yelling at Jojo saying "SHE DESERVES NOTHING!!" honestly, It is kind of inspiring to turn the crap you received into something good.
You know what would be more shocking and actually could have worked, would be if she became a sweetheart adult with music that shows her age but doesnt go against everything. Would be more shocking to see a child star turn into an adult star with none of the garbage most child stars go through 😂

It just reeks of manufactured. Many influencers become legitimate artists but most of them are smart enough to not force it and let a fanbase grow. I'm sure JoJo got that advice and ignored it
The craziest thing to me was her saying that Lil Nas X said he was learning from her??? Idk if that’s true or not, but even if it is he already did that with Montero. AND did it better!
If that's true, which I very inclined to believe, why would they do this to her? Is it a humiliation right of passage? Are they actively trying to ruin her career? Are they so out of touch that they think this is how you do it? I'm struggling to see the purpose.
Kiss was not a kids band. Maybe at the end of the 70s when they started making action figures and stuff but listen the there lyrics on there first 5-6 albums.
The lyrics are pretty simple and corny, actually. Fairly safe. And I'm a fan, but they weren't loved for deep or mature or complex lyrics. It was more about the actual music and the attitude and theatricality.
That second song was released to promote the other singer 100%. Evwryone, including JoJo, would know it wasn't her singing and no one would believe it. Perhaps the label said theyd give JoJo $100K to pretend. It would get both girls attention.. voila. There you go.
I think Patrick nailed why this isnt working for Jojo. Ironically, in almost any other facet of life being transparent and honest makes you more likeable but certainly not in the music industry.

I want to mention that your analysis of the Miley Cyrus comparison is maybe the first that I agree with. I have seen a number of these videos comparing Jojo’s attempted transition to Miley Cyrus as an example of what doesn’t work. And yes, as you acknowledge, there were problems, especially at that time. There were a lot of problematic things and backlash that she received, again, at the time. But retrospectively, Bangerz was a very successful album. Miley Cyrus is an objectively talented musician. She was authentic, and as you pointed out, she “did not care.” From a marketing and strategic perspective, while the short term seemed like a disaster, it was actually extremely effective in accomplishing the GOAL, which was to shed the child star completely. Not only did it do that, but it actually embedded the idea that Miley Cyrus had the ability to “rebrand” herself at any point. It provided a platform that said “yea, she can do this.” While she never did a full Disney to Bangerz rebrand again, she has still done it continually with every album, again, successfully. She went from Bangerz to bohemian pigtails with Malibu, and has somehow found herself here as a modern, high-fashion Joan Jett who shops at Chanel. It also helped that Bangerz was TRULY a deviation from her Disney persona. There were no vestiges of Hannah Montana in Bangerz Miley. She acknowledges her various stages now, as an adult, as important and key parts of her development and career, which includes Hannah Montana. But it was important for it not to be there for Bangerz to accomplish what it set out to do. And if anyone is going to compare this to Jojo Siwa, there are very clear differences that make it less of a similar example of a failure and more of an example of what Jojo’s attempt is NOT. Jojo’s song, singing, and performance are not even in the same realm of recently Grammy-winning Miley Cyrus, then or now. Jojo is being inauthentic and disingenuous, which is evident, hence the cringe. She is not owning the transition. She’s backpedaling and explaining and justifying. Also, despite what she may think, Nickelodeon Jojo is still very obviously apparently there. She is COVERED in sequins. It’s the same Jojo we’ve seen for her entire career, just with a different color palette. She had her 21st birthday at Disney. DISNEY! Is there anything that screams child-star more than Disney???? It’s Jojo with a “but.” “I’m wearing sequins, but they’re black!” “I went to Disney, but I drank alcohol!” (Which many of us do - by the way.) “I’m not a bad girl, but the song says it!” “I didn’t write any of the music, but I’m an artist!” "I've always had a car with my face all over it, but now it's images from my new song!" "All of my music videos feature choreographed group dances, but in this one I pelvic thrust too!" Also Jojo has literally shown us this before. The looks, the video, the color palette and costumes of Karma, the fake artistry. If you feel like it, look up "Jojo Siwa - Where are you Christmas" (I'm 100% serious. just watch it.)

omg I said the exact same thing!!! Where's my truck, JoJo, where's my fucking truck?!
Shut down your delusions, girl.

you again!
It’s Jojo with a “but.” “I’m wearing sequins, but they’re black!” “I went to Disney, but I drank alcohol!” (Which many of us do - by the way.) “I’m not a bad girl, but the song says it!” “I didn’t write any of the music, but I’m an artist!” "I've always had a car with my face all over it, but now it's images from my new song!" "All of my music videos feature choreographed group dances, but in this one I pelvic thrust too!"
Also Jojo has literally shown us this before. The looks, the video, the color palette and costumes of Karma, the fake artistry. If you feel like it, look up "Jojo Siwa - Where are you Christmas" (I'm 100% serious. just watch it.)
Omg! True!!
