So we asked America’s best bartenders what annoyed them the most right now, from people being over educated about spirits, to arcane ingredients to social media whoring. "Chill and try and get people laid"
Best bartender ever
This is all great but I get the feeling that several of these folks do all the stuff they're saying they hate.
Jeff Solomon and?
Andrew Reed annnd....It kills their credibility in what they’re saying here.
"We don't put brains on the tables, we just make spirits palatable to drink." I should start a bar with that motto.
Rare ingredients for the sake of rare ingredients pisses me the fuck off.
I actually like the trend of buying local. At my bar we do our best to carry Oregon made spirits only. Some might not be the best, but we want to support the local community. The money and jobs stay in the community and we're giving new distilleries a chance to grow and improve.
I love these videos, also agree with that many bartenders nowadays make drinks more so for themselves & their own ego than for the customer.
I like Green Chartreuse. It's interesting as fuck. Hard to add it to something in an advantageous way bc it's quite overwhelming but definitely adds depth.
I really like this series. I enjoy the bartender's answers, then looking at the comment section makes me think.... "oh you don't understand? Yeah, we know it doesn't look hard, it takes years to fine tune a craft." That's why we don't talk shop with people who don't get it.
Yeah reading a lot of the comments I just think "this is a person who has never been behind a bar and probably doesn't even know what simple syrup is".
I love your videos! thank you
A good bartender does one thing before anything is ordered.... They make you feel welcome. I've always loved and appriciated a good bartender.
1 - Build an awesome, invitational, good environment for your guests.
2 - Serve good, honest, correctly sized drinks.
3 - Get your guests laid.
Loved the comment by the bartender that said, "We serve people; not drinks".
Joel Yea, serving the people. Mixologists and the so called “startenders” are the ones who rake in the tips, because they elevate the skill of bartending. If I order a sazerac and one bartender just mixes and pours, while the other is throwing the shaker and getting creative of course I’m gonna throw the latter a good tip, the boring guy will be paid for the drink and then I’ll walk away
last advice is the best advice.
Tbf, I like the local stuff at least on the beer side. Cause it's local, it's fresher and often more variety in flavours
2:30 the ending shows really who's channel is this 😂
The bartender who is too busy inflating their ego than helping the people!!
Buying local is great. Locals like to support their city, and visitors like to try new things.
100% agree. Keeping small businesses alive is good for both parties and the local economy. If it’s too expensive then just the fact that both parties are local can get you better deals. I think some of these bartenders are just saying things because they think not caring about anything and being “real”, whatever the F that means, is the cool thing to do
Rare ingredients for the purpose of being rare is so dumb but still so true
Best (several editions of his book published) head bartender I ever worked with (in the 5 star hotel context anyway) was the dullest man you ever met. Zero personality BUT he remembered the face and the drink of everyone he had ever served and people just loved him for it.
I'm told some Drs are the same - super dull because thier brains are so full of the symptoms/desease equation that there was no room left for personality.
Over complicating cocktails, the thought of local is best and twists on classics have to be here.
'Startending'... !!
"moustaches"- ha! Perfect.
I like fernet and chartreuse. Am I part of the "problem"?
shredmasteryoshi I've learned that everyone is part of the problem in a bartender's eyes. They complain about the Fernet and Chartreuse folks, the Long Island Iced Tea folks, the Tiki drink folks, you name it, they complain about it. Barring the beer folks, and the whiskey neat folks of course...If the video is representative of the bartenders in "the real world" it seems bartenders these days would rather just tend bar and not mix drinks. Bunch of whiners these days.
Na my friend, your job is to know how to order what you want, be polite, tip well, and cut yourself off before the bar staff has to. Their job is to make you what you want to drink in a timely, professional, and knowledgeable manner. They are paid wages to be in the building. They are tipped to serve you. Just dont go to a dive bar and order a Toronto or a Corpse Reviver #2 and expect them to have the ingredients on hand. But if you go to some ritzy bar and you just want a beer, its their job to serve it to you with nothing more than a smile, a napkin or coaster, and a word of gratitude.
"Alcohol. It's an education and doing it without being pretentious is a skill" that's a saying I've had for years.
John from Baltimore- part of that is also the current culture in Baltimore.
"Other than mustaches?" Hilarious!
I love craft cocktails but if I don’t know what the ingredients taste like when blended why would I order that drink? So bars should do simple descriptions so the patron knows what they’re getting. That’s my pet peeve
That Birmingham Representation though. GO TEAM
Just because it's local doesn't mean it's the best. Bang on I've said that since day one.
I'd rather have a delicious cocktail than startending.
Nectaly seems like he would be an awesome bar tender!
I’m a bartender, and I only like fernet because I actually think it taste good. Solely an opinion.
How can all these famous bartenders rip on other bartenders trying to be famous... like the millions of them making minimum wage and barely scraping by, how can you hypocrites hate on them for tryna make a subsistence into a living
1:05 -- I drink Armagnac all the time. Bas Armagnac, to be exact. Puts Cognac to shame.
After watching Bar Rescue, I no longer order mixed drinks in any bar. I ask for a longneck beer instead.
Why is that? I missed that episode.
Is it because it’s cheaper alcohol for the money?
@@am5812 It is because of insects in vermouth bottles, mold in the ice machines, dead mice, etc. These markedly unsanitary conditions have been featured in quite a few episodes..Don't let me commence on the topic of the filthy kitchens they have featured,.
@@pepperco100 yeah I understand. I’ve worked in bars and I’d tell you that it can for sure be true but not always. That’s why seeing bartenders who appear to not take their jobs too seriously and take pride in being so casual about the trade (like the ones on this video), tells me a lot about the establishment.
People who wear hats inside.
what's wrong with wanting to buy local products?
it's not nececarily wrong, but it doesn't make it the best :) as he said. I am all for supporting local bussinesses, but if a spirit sucks, it sucks, fuck it... same with beer D:
Ricky C. Very true, whilst I agree that not everything local is of the highest quality in comparison to other products which are easily accessible globally, there's something enjoyable about trying small local sources, and supporting the local economy. It's definitely not 'annoying' as the title to this video suggests.
yeah, but still, i have a old town brewery here that started serving ONLY their craft beer, both lager and dark, but the problem is: it's the worst fken thing i have ever fken tasted, too much yeast, cloudy af, and gives u the worst hangover. And they limit you to buying only that cause they're pompous hipsters. smh man :D annoys me so much. I've been a bartender for 5 years and i can certainly relate to many of these guys points.. It's more about the guests, I dont wanna get wowed sometimes, I wanna a nice conversation and a drink to go along with that. cheers bruh
It depends where you live. In some cities/states the push for "local" does get a bit zealous and can be moderately aggravating. Especially when the "local" stuff is noticeable inferior and made from largely non-local ingredients. While supporting the local economy is nice, I don't want to support something that puts out an inferior product and relies on my pity/sympathy to earn money.
Well, everything is local somewhere..
I agree with Sly 100%!!
Jen S Sly seems like one of the only ones that are considering the guests experiences more than his own, which is what any service job should be about really
The one with purple hair looks like a host from a kids show
The backhand pour. Every. Single. Video does it
Also I will say that I've seen the world bartending championships or whatever they are called and bartenders on there are all guilty of several if not all of these and more but are also the most knowledgeable, talented and hospitable bartenders in the business. What the fuck is wrong with that? 😂
Moustaches...she's right
Killian Oliver ❤️💍
Man I hate being from the UK, bars in the US look fun. Britain might be famous for its pubs but like 80% of them are soulless pretend posh rubbish these days with miserable bar staff. I'd rather have a warm pint of bitter served by an angry landlord in an establishment I'm not sure I should be in, or may not get out of alive.
Damn, people can't want to build their brand without it being annoying lol? That's dumb.
The only descent guy in these series is Sean.
Eric definitely knows his shit
In this video most of them are pretty muck ok, but in general they think they are much more than they actually are. They usually are too arrogant like their word is now the absolute truth.
Some of the advice is solid but IMO some of these bartenders hate everything that has made some of the best bars in the world “the best bars in the world”. Pretentious know-it-alls are annoying AF but you don’t have to act like one or be framed as one just because you like to learn your craft and you care about the small details; that just makes you good at what you do and if you have the personality to back it up then you’re just a well rounded professional and not just “a chill bartender”. I think if these bartenders paid more attention to those small details instead of pretending to be so casual and putting down the people who elevate the game, they’d be featured in a solo video giving their advice.
How did no one say "and I realize the irony of being in a youtube video, but...."
Is bar tending an actual Career in the US?
Katatafish until maybe age 30 when the cocaine bottoms you out
If you're a hot chick, until the next hot chick pushes you out
Yes, working at very busy or high end places can earn you a decent living in the US. I know bartenders making 60-80k a year in Vegas.
Thank God a London bartender made it on there.
Edit: and one from Brum! Awesome. Get some manchester/Nottingham based opinions next time
It's the american brum not our uk brum
"Bartender trying to get famous" but you people are on RUclips doing videos. lol
Talking about your craft and startending are two different things
Hennessey
Y’all got Hennessy!?
Does playboy own this channel?
My vote: tattoos and nose piercings.
I'll give you nose piercings but when have bartenders NOT had tattoos? Bikers, bartenders, sailors and criminals have all tattoos for ages
Terrible bloody Marys.
I hate this trend. Just stfu and do you. Stop focusing on how others do their thing. If they wanna be famous… well that’s more money. But absolutely right that service is more important.
Really just sounds like they are afraid of being outdone by someone younger and better at it.
UnleashTheBlob you're just making drinks after all.
Could also call this, "Salty Dive-Bar Bartenders Bitch About Cocktail Bartenders That Earn Bigger Tips"
RE upload?
Yeah, but it's been edited. The old video thumbnail featured a girl bartender, all her content was removed. Not sure if that's what prompted the reup.
The most annoying trend in bartending, hipster bartenders lol
Your river I was some old dude with live cirrhosis surging me my drink
I'll never understand the men who think that mouth circle goatee look is a winner.
Tipsy Bartender. Next video.
mixologist who take 10 minutes to make a drink are the worst. those are NOT bartenders.
EBM VIDEO PRODUCCIONES Antigua Guatemala well of course not. They're mixologists. If you went to a mixologist wanting a bartender then that's kinda your fault.
Man if the bartender gets you laid there will be a freaking line outside your bar. it will also become a sausage fest. does that guy work at a gaybar?
The most annoying trend in bartending (or practically anywhere) is tattoos. Every boring wimp wants to looks like a gang member who stabbed someone in prison. Remove your tattoos (even better : never get any!), get a clean (facial!) shave and do not wear any sort of headgear in a room with a roof!
Shut up and serve me whatever I ask for.
the bartenders in this series seems so damn negative. very non approachable in my opinion
Yeah well you have to think about it they are talking about their jobs being asked questions about the negative aspects.
Ugh, because its about negative thing in bartending ?
They really could *not* have found uglier people if they tried.
I find that the most annoying trend in RUclips videos about bartending is the focus on unattractive bartenders.
