I don't care what anyone says...being a liked regular at a bar is awesome. Getting your drinks how you want them, when you want them, being 1st in line, getting shots, getting mistake drinks, bartenders announcing you just walked in, etc. I am a bartender and I still love it...I treat them well and they treat me well. WIN/WIN!
A Alekhine i agree. There's nothing like coming into my "home bar" after not being in for a while and hearing "Mr. Wright! Where the fuck have you been??" (My last names wright and for some reason they prefer calling me mr. Wright than Justin) and like getting hugs going out to games with them, playing darts, and just overall being a friend. Also the free drinks are a huge plus.
There's a huge difference between being a regular customer, and a person who has become an actual friend to the bartender. Been to tons of weddings of customers who had become real, true friends of mine. Introduced a few of them to each other. But if the bartender doesn't have your phone number, and doesn't look forward to hanging out with you on their day off, you're just another shmuck who helps pay their bills.
I wouldn’t say shmuck just a person who enjoys drinking at a certain bar every so often, shmuck would be if they think they have friends just because they put themselves in a situation where a specific person is forced to talk to them while they’re at work and they mistake that for friendship
As a respectful customer, I can tell you the perks are wonderful and gaining a friend is even better. Its easy: be nice, be patient, make eye contact, smile and engage, don't flash your money at them, tip well, buy your bartender a drink, ask how they're doing, understand that this is a career for them as well as paying the bills... I've had test drinks, mistake drinks, appetizers, sometimes had my total bill discounted. Over 20 years of managerial/customer relations work has taught me that the client/vendor system works both ways.
Basil Mahmud Disagree. Bartenders often have a lot of regulars they like, some of which are genuine friends. A barman of a few years myself, I can confirm we are social creatures. BUT, for the majority I know, bartenders that is, when we leave the bar, we leave. We still have our own friends, hobbies and family to persue outside of work. I have 2 dozen regulars and friends I happily serve weekly at work, but very few I would socialise out of work with.
Kieran McMahon Thanks Kieran. I’ve considered many bartenders friends, and it’s generally seemed to me to be mutual, but there’s always that nagging doubt which comments such as Basil’s tend to bring to the fore.
You don’t need to be a “regular” to get free drinks. I don’t get freebies at my regular bars but while in France recently I had a drink at my hotel bar (with wife and friends) and I made “friends” with the bartender. After we had our regular drinks my passion and interest in Scotch led to a great discussion with the bartender and he gave me sips of 10 different Scotch Whisky’s. We weren’t friends but we were “friends” in the moment and had great memories.
David Couture David - what's pathetic is for the customer to visit a place and be there to be "friends" with the person working there. Or "get a hug" or be "part of the experience". That's a paid or fake friend. That's not how real people make real friends. That's why I used the word "pathetic" and "Faggotry". The video encourages assumed friendship through frequenting a place. You would not assume friendship by being nice to a girl in your local supermaket, right? Nor would you want to. You are intelligent enough to get that the very concept is creepy and incredibly sad, right?
It must be difficult for you to understand that you can have friends you aren't trying to fuck and are genuinely making you a good drink, even trying new shit on you and hooking you up, because they like you. If you go all customer servicey on people, yeah they'll be fine with it, and you'll be fine with it, but when you serve people it's nice to have a customer you can relax the charade a bit with. Not that you would know what it's like to have a job where you have to talk to people.
@Sami Folio not like prostitution at all. we all do things for people we like. bartenders are no different. if they like you they want to do something nice for you. thats what friends are. people who like one another and do things for one another. I mean if you are making friends with a bar tender JUST because you are hoping for some free drinks....well in that case I guess you are prostituting yourself. but if you make friends with a bar tender because you legit think they are a cool person and a friendship forms and that bartender decides to buy you a drink, well thats a friend doing something nice for a friend. And for MOST bartenders it does NOT come down to how much you tip. of course you are not likely to become friends if you NEVER tip but the tip isnt what it is about. Being a cool and interesting person being someone who is polite and respectful to not only the bartender but the rest of the customers as well. Id buy a drink for someone who has an interesting story and can make me laugh or make other customers laugh and enjoy themselves and tips moderately over buying a drink for someone who is obnoxious but tips well. Bartenders and servers in MOST states in the USA live mostly off what they get tipped. no one wants to work for basically nothing and anyone who does not think bar tending in a busy bar or club is easy.....I invite you to do it for just one night in a busy place. I bet at least half the people who think its easy would quit after one night. It is by no means the hardest job in the world, but it is also by no means the easiest job either. there is a lot to remember a lot you have to pay attention to, and a lot that you are responsible for.
I'm in my 4th year of bartending. This is how I pay my bills. I work hard and I don't make a lot of money. If someone comes in a lot, is always pleasant to myself and the other bar patrons, and tips well, of course I'm going to give them the best treatment I possibly can. It's a no-brainer.
Today I realised that I was a regular at my favourite place. I walked in with a few friends and half the waiters came by to say hello and the one serving us asked if I wanted the usual. It was pretty cool since I've been going there for about 2 years now. I always start my evening there. I love those guys (and girls)
A bartender is the most expensive friend you’ll ever have. There really isn’t a free drink, you’ve just pre-paid for them with tips... it’s a transaction that bypasses the businesses ownership. .... that being said, I’ve met some amazing people that work as bartenders.
I mean... Honestly... As a bartender... A lot of my regulars became friends and since I became friends I called out all of them because many of them came to my bar to drink their problems away... As a friend it hurt me... Sure they left a heavy tip every time but I just couldn’t take it anymore and now I’m glad to say that they no longer come to my bar to drink alcohol... I work in a club that plays a lot of great EDM music and now my friends just come to enjoy the music. I only serve them water now! :) I’m just happy many of them have turned their lives around cause they became regulars of mine at a very dark time in their lives... I’m overall just a very honest person and in general if you are drinking... I hope it’s to have fun or enhance your experience not your solution to your problems... That’s all I wanted to say~
Ah, makes me miss my favorite bar back in Nashville. Place was a hole in the wall, so there was only ever one bartender working at a time. Only served beer, so there was nobody getting hammered, doing shots shots shots. Lots of regulars to say hey to, good dart boards, good jukebox.
I can relate to soooo many of these suggestions. I'm a regular at like 2 bars. I feel the servers and bartenders like me. I bring them outside food and energy drinks. We, the real regulars, have most of their phone numbers. We hangout sometimes outside of the bar. Plus if someone gets too far out of line.... well, you know. lol
My favourite regular is the guy who never says anything to me the whole shift but he brings all his glasses back every round and gives me a fist bump when he leaves.
I realized I was a regular at my pharmacy when I walked up to the counter and she scanned my meds. I said, “wait, you didn’t ask me for my name…” She told me she’d worked at the pharmacy for a few years and just knew my name…
ummm.... NO. I was a regular at a bar back in the day, and I tipped modestly, but I was always polite. Politeness is never a wrong thing to do. I ordered a couple or three drinks, never got obnoxious, and was given a drink on occasion. I don't feel like I, or the bartender ever whored themselves out.
At my favorite bar that I was a regular in, one of the usual bartenders would put down a cup of water at the end of the bar, saving the seat for me. I miss that place.
Had a friend that was a regular in Europe btw and when he turned 18 he went too he’s favorite bar and they asked how old he was turning and he said 18 and the just gave him a awkward look
I like regulars who never expect anything but good service, never expect free shit nor expect anything ove and beyond just because their regulars. I guess I mean when a friend buys u a drink, or dinner tab, not because he wants something, but just because if you're generosity, not expecting anything in return. Now I would buy his next dinner tab not because I feel I have to, but I knew he was genuine therefor I WANT to return the favor. So with my regulars even if its slammed, I try my fucking hardest to toss him his drink so he doesnt have to wait. For some reason I never liked the "put your friend/regular behind the busy line, just because hes polite and willing to wait" Because he is truely willing to wait cause he knows I'm busy, im gunna make his drink so he doesnt have to wait.
regulars get a lot of perks....thats all you have to know... if you're a regular who tips well...those perks increase. dont think there's anything wrong with that arrangement
Once again when you are in small town Midwest America you will probably know half the people in the bar when you walk in and will probably know the bartender/owner, his/her spouse, kids, parents etc. And I have been on both sides of the bar and have been friends outside of the bar. P.S. I never drink behind the bar before Midnight if its slow, or at all if I'm kicking people out at 2. Bad for business, when I'm behind the bar I am at WORK.
Don't be the guy that is desperate to be friends with the bartender, either. They will all be your friend for a tip. Just be friendly and pick the right bar if you want to be a regular
I became a regular at a bar that had a drinks program I liked, and I impressed them worth my drinks knowledge, they asked me to apply. Sorry for the humble brag, but I feel that it happens.
Yeah. Don't expect free shit and definitely never ask for it. That's uncomfortable and not something a friend would do. Tip well. Be consistent. Be friendly. When it is busy make the bartenders job as easy as you can. When they screw something up or screw you over accidentally due to it being peak hours or whatever be cool about it and just say "no worries." Find a 20 on the ground and say hey I found this on the ground, I think it flew outta the tip jar 😉
Also stick up for them when you see they're dealing with a dickhole. But don't do it aggressively or overstep your boundaries. You're not a bouncer and that's gonna create more trouble for them.
The most economical way to get plastered is to buy some Svedka and Mt Dew and continue to drink at your own house until you black out. But don't invite anyone, they'll eat into your food/drink budget. That should come out to maybe $4 a day, and after a few months, you'll have all that extra money to maybe go out to a bar and meet someone or something.
I think being a regular is something between what this video says and what you guys think it is. I feel like the video makes it seem like you're a bestfriend and everyone in the comments mskr it seem like you're some nobody. I feel like you're an acquaintance, not exactly friends but friendly
If you a regular you better tip well. Have your manners on point. Go when its slow. Make a visit on the weekend Occasionally. Order appropriately for the occasion. And be coherent to the bartender, their employees, and all the patrons around you. And dont get shitfaced.
Any bartenders or regulars here? A few months passed 21 and going to the bar, first time, this weekend. Are bartenders cool with, "surprise me?" Rum and coke is as far as my knowledge goes but i want to try some real cocktails. To me they make money, and enjoy, making a good drink. I just dont wanna come off as some douche at the counter.
No, please don't say "surprise me"... everyone has preferences. Ask for suggestions, or check out a cocktail list/menu. It also would kinda suck if you were surprised with anaphylaxis due to your coconut allergy, poo in your pants because you didn't mention your dairy intolerance, diabetic shock from a overly sweet cocktail, etc. Lol you get the point 😉
I’ve worked in bars... found there’s more to life then going to bars and making friends with the bartender, go to the bar with your friends not to meet your fav bartender lol
So these bartenders are trying to justify alcoholism via social drinking just so you can form a friendship with the bartender, become a reliable source of income (ignoring the fact that they run a bar so they get income already but who cares), and have the chance of getting free shots every now and then? Neat.
Alot of these people don't "run a bar" they just work there, and to see someone they like serving that'll ease the tension of customer service a bit is always a nice thing. Try working at a place that isn't your own living room.
I like my customers. The best example is that one guy in my bar, who is really loud and noisy and sometimes aggresive. But he belongs to us. We named a drink after him, one he created. He is a asshole and i would never Date him, but if he is in a fight or even starts it, he will get thrown out, but can come back. He is our friend. I care about them. Yes i take their money. But that doesnt mean that we dont want them...
I'm taking a bartending course right now and whenever someone snaps at me, I'm going to look them dead in the eye, and bark like a fucking dog then continue whatever the hell I was already doing and get to them last lol
How many times a month should one show up and order enough drinks to get drunk and tip 20%+ to be considered a regular? I too am am a regular .... at my home bar. I am the bartender and the patron ☺️ and I always get my favourite drink, just the way I want it. And I don't frequent my home bar more than once a week 🙂
Why would anyone want to be a regular at a bar? I've worked in the industry and while we had regular customers, some that we liked serving, they all had serious issues. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in a bar every day.
so... to become a regular i must allow the staff to give me shitty service. i need to get drunk during weekdays and basically pay you to be my "friends"? and what i get out of it is maybe a free shot that ive allready paid 100 times for by getting drunk on the weekdays? during this process, ive lost my job, only get to see my kids every other weekend, wich is okay since thats the only time im sober anyways.
No, you just have to be friendly to the bartenders, if you come in once a day, a week or a month, it doesn't matter, the thing that matters is that the time in the bar for both the bartender and you is better by being nice and friendly
So basically if you're a girl and your a regular you get free shots. I've been a regular at the club close to me all I get is threw VIP if there's a line
I've watched a bunch of these videos now and I'm convinced bartenders are the best people but...... Sam Parrie(orange check) is fucking terrifying. Has she ever smiled? Jesus............ talk about unfriendly
They should make a version with doctors instead of bartenders to make these "privileged bartenders" realize how absurd their views on tipping, treating patrons and work ethics sound. Especially, LA, Chicago, NYC.
Jace Curran for if doctors, or any other professions for that matter, were to differentiate their services depending on the tips recieved prior to providing any service would be called absurd. Unless there is a notice which lists the quality of services I will get for the down payment tipping, I am doubtful the services the bartenders provide will be influenced only by the sole amount of tips. It begs the question: what else affects the service I get for my money? I am pro-tipping for waiters and chefs, I pay after my due service+they make way less. But the bartenders expect tips before my drinks which I also find absurd.
In the us service jobs are almost completely tip only. For example; federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, while tipped minimum wage is $2.13 an hour. The reason they expect tips from every customer is that if you don't tip they don't live.
I'm a regular at multiple bars and an alcoholic in the UK. Let me tell you there is nothing more miserable than drinking yourself into oblivion everyday. Your better off staying at home and maybe playing some games
If you go to the bar all the time you need help 😂 The Fuck I hate when I go to bars and see people who live in the bar drunk by. 12 like fuck man do you even work ??
Hench Bawse false you've obviously been in bars that are "clicky" most good bars/restaurants have regulars and everyone is treated the same. In fact I've had regulars in various places that wait longer to get served and are very courteous to other guests
I recommend becoming "friends"/regulars with bartenders if you go to clubs. For me if I order one of their specials and a shot, I only pay for the shot and non alcoholic drinks (coconut water, sparkling water and red bulls) are free
The thing that gets me is why do Americans think that the more you tip the better the service? If I get an American table in I serve them last because they're guaranteed to tip me.
Bullshit..I am one of those customers that does is patient on waiting for a drink, makes small talk, even plays great music to liven the place up..and even tips 20%+ and guess what? No free drinks, nor do they look out for me. This is at various bars too...bartenders are more concerned on hooking up their own close bar friends, then actual loyal good customers. And I am a barback at a bar, so I see how most bartenders are, and know what to look for. this vid was all lip service.
You're never friend with a bartender if you only see them at a bar. Cause your friendship stops when you stop drinking.
Basil Mahmud Disagree. Bartenders often have a lot of regulars they like, some of which are genuine friends. A barman of a few years myself, I can confirm we are social creatures. I literally took my favorite baryender to a metal show at red rocks this last Monday. you're not a regular if you don't escape the bar with them.

Kinda
Nanofuture87 exactly
No, alot of hardcore alcoholics drink alone actually
you’re not a alcoholic if you have a drink or 2 everyday just saying
Joshua Capps that's a road to become one though, and it's a short one

Keep in mind that bars are toxic places and attract a bad crowd of people, or bring out the worst in people. Especially college bars.
1:29 truest statement in this series. Lots of regulars develop an entitlement
I love my regulars man they keep me going
Because your BARTENDER is a God Damn GENIUS.
How: Give the bartender money
Why: Damn it, Otto, you're an alcoholic
Holy shit, didn't expect to find a mitch hedberg joke in the comments! a tip of the hat
I'm a regular at the bottom shelf vodka aisle of QFC
I agree. Much better to invite your friends home for a drink. Much cheaper than a bar.
5:35 I’m only commenting so everyone knows that I know that you live in the NW.

Who the fuck can afford that? I'm not paying 4x as much for alcohol so that some bartender will pretend they're my friend.

I just get some rubbin alcohol and pore it thru bread. Much cheaper.
LMFAO Daivd
Thanks for referencing a bar in my hometown of Boston! #GoBruins
I wish a had a bartender like there's guys. Nothing worse than going some where and they can't simply hand you a bottle of beer with a smile
Do you come often or are you just here a lot?
NORMMMMMMMMMM
It’s like a friendship, except you probably don’t hang out outside the bar, so you’re not really friends
Where is Patric? Where is the wine
I love this channel
I think being a regular is something between what this video says and what you guys think it is. I feel like the video makes it seem like you're a bestfriend and everyone in the comments mskr it seem like you're some nobody. I feel like you're an acquaintance, not exactly friends but friendly
That's exactly it. I had favorite customers working with the public, but we weren't "friends".
Good bars in Chicago?
Ironic that the British guy (the white one, not the back guy), was the one to mention "tipping appropriately"
Tallinn8786 yeah that was strange because regulars don't tip
Ryan sharlotte Well that but here in England we don't have a tipping heavy culture unlike the States.
Now where in the world has tipping culture like the states
Ok why is there 5 bottles of Hendricks Gin in the background
It's kind of hard not to be that guy when the bartender ignores you.
Trade fridge magnets when you come back from a trip!
Neat.
No?
If thats how you see it sure
0:52 I do this ,not cause im a regular , its because im a fucking alcoholic
I'm taking a bartending course right now and whenever someone snaps at me, I'm going to look them dead in the eye, and bark like a fucking dog then continue whatever the hell I was already doing and get to them last lol
It’s a good thing to be a regular at a bar
But would always choose to be a regular at a diner any day of the week over the bar
I go to a regular at a cop bar and get ride home and drop off because they like me
I miss being a regular
one night at the bar and im broke for the week.
A regular is given this so they come back again
I miss the bar lol
Then i go to new bar and people don't know me
How many times a month should one show up and order enough drinks to get drunk and tip 20%+ to be considered a regular? I too am am a regular .... at my home bar. I am the bartender and the patron ☺️ and I always get my favourite drink, just the way I want it. And I don't frequent my home bar more than once a week 🙂
Has anyone ever ordered a angel shot
These are Blue Collar smart BT's
🇺🇸🦅⚓😎🍺
I have a bar like that I go to
Why would anyone want to be a regular at a bar?
I've worked in the industry and while we had regular customers, some that we liked serving, they all had serious issues. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in a bar every day.
so... to become a regular i must allow the staff to give me shitty service. i need to get drunk during weekdays and basically pay you to be my "friends"? and what i get out of it is maybe a free shot that ive allready paid 100 times for by getting drunk on the weekdays?
during this process, ive lost my job, only get to see my kids every other weekend, wich is okay since thats the only time im sober anyways.
huh?
No, you just have to be friendly to the bartenders, if you come in once a day, a week or a month, it doesn't matter, the thing that matters is that the time in the bar for both the bartender and you is better by being nice and friendly
No, just visit the bar on your way to home for a couple beers and be friendly
So basically if you're a girl and your a regular you get free shots. I've been a regular at the club close to me all I get is threw VIP if there's a line
I've watched a bunch of these videos now and I'm convinced bartenders are the best people but...... Sam Parrie(orange check) is fucking terrifying. Has she ever smiled? Jesus............ talk about unfriendly
So to be a good regular:
Buy a lot of drinks, tip them, show up a lot, and don't ask for their attention
Well they're busy working..
They should make a version with doctors instead of bartenders to make these "privileged bartenders" realize how absurd their views on tipping, treating patrons and work ethics sound. Especially, LA, Chicago, NYC.
What's absurd about their position on tipping?
Jace Curran for if doctors, or any other professions for that matter, were to differentiate their services depending on the tips recieved prior to providing any service would be called absurd. Unless there is a notice which lists the quality of services I will get for the down payment tipping, I am doubtful the services the bartenders provide will be influenced only by the sole amount of tips. It begs the question: what else affects the service I get for my money? I am pro-tipping for waiters and chefs, I pay after my due service+they make way less. But the bartenders expect tips before my drinks which I also find absurd.
uberminseok23 if your bartenders expect tips before you're served, you're at a bad bar, man. I've never had that experience
Oh we don't tip where I'm from. But you should watch the other video on tips to see where I was going with this.
Alex!
So if you don’t have that much money you can’t be a regular?
If you go to the bar all the time you need help 😂 The Fuck I hate when I go to bars and see people who live in the bar drunk by. 12 like fuck man do you even work ??
I’m 17. Thanks for the advice. Definitely will become a regular
Why?
i dont wanna be friends give me the shots
Nobody likes regulars in any business. They start acting like they own the place. I avoid restaurants that have regulars that hang around.
Hench Bawse false you've obviously been in bars that are "clicky" most good bars/restaurants have regulars and everyone is treated the same. In fact I've had regulars in various places that wait longer to get served and are very courteous to other guests
Considering booze is marked up like 500% at bars, bartenders should be paid more by the establishment.
First joke killed
How to become a regular at a bar. Simple. Go there a lot. Duh.
I recommend becoming "friends"/regulars with bartenders if you go to clubs. For me if I order one of their specials and a shot, I only pay for the shot and non alcoholic drinks (coconut water, sparkling water and red bulls) are free
They're not your friend if you're paying them, lol
Well, i'm a regular at a coffeshop. Now every purchase has a 10% discount.
So alcoholism is OK as long as you have good decorum with the person serving you? Our culture is seriously fucked up.
I have been a bartender for 32 years; I assure you, most regulars are no where f'in near a friend!
How sad for you.
How to become friends with people who still work at a bar?
Don't say your a regular when none of us know you. I've often had that
Lmao
I am a regular at a pub.
Dnt become a regular
The thing that gets me is why do Americans think that the more you tip the better the service? If I get an American table in I serve them last because they're guaranteed to tip me.
In America if your a good tipper they will treat you better than someone who isn’t
Wow, a Black bartender!
Do black people tip black bartenders?
Idk where you live buddy but there’s black bartenders at many bars
@@roberts.8389 IDK where you live buddy but you are late to the comment party.
BABY
Very Sad.
