    That neck though. This chorus is incredibly subtle, at least in the first isolated clip. It's clearly there yet it's kinda in the space around the sound. Hence the name "spatial expander"?
    What I got kinda curious about is how exciting sounds can you conjure if you use the sides having a different sound in each.
    For the plugin, it seems like your analog unit has more of the direct guitar in it and has some of that lwo mid oomph left that's absent in the plugin. It's not even a subtle difference, like different versions of the same original idea, not just a small revision or parts tolerances. Yet the price difference is so huge it's hard to say the original is worth that oomph if you just want that chorus gene in your tone. But obviously if it has to be THE TC1210 sound, I feel like the plugin will leave you wanting.

    Michael, I finally got a 1210 for my rack. I really love it.
    Surprisingly to me, it seems to go into the red on the input sensitivity very easily when fed with a line level signal.
    I’m loading my amp down with a Suhr Reactive Load, sending the line out to my mixer (Redseven MSLM), which has the 1210 in a series loop, then out to power amp/cabinets.
    All my other fx seem to handle the signal easily and can be adjusted to optimal levels, but the 1210 goes right up into the red even with the input sensitivity on 0 and using balanced cables, ins/outs, etc.
    Any thoughts on this? How was yours set up in the video? I see you can push the sensitivity up high and still have the LEDs in the green.

    In that very last clip when toggling between hardware and software there's a significant drop in thickness and some mids when switching to the plugin. Would it be possible to EQ those frequencies back in to get em closer? Maybe even indistinguishable? If so, I'm getting those plugins haha.

      Like maybe use an excerpt of the hardware track to trigger a plugin like the Eventide Equivocate (use it all the time and love it) on the plugin track to EQ match em. That could be an interesting follow up vid to this one. On a different topic, you're a really, really great guitar player. Wondering if there's a band/bands you've been in I may have heard of? When is your next coffee and questions episode? I would pitch in how you use the 1210 as both sides have their own independent stereo (!) chorus. Do you use one side mono in, stereo (with Y-cable) on Output 1 or both sides mono in and stereo out using output 1 and output 2? Going nuts would be going in mono and out double stereo, wouldn‘t it? Keep em coming!

I guess the secret sauce it’s always hidden in the preamps, but coupling this plugin with another brand’s preamp emulation or even a preamp pedal I’m sure can get you much closer. I always combine pedals with plugins. The plugin alone sounds crazy good anyway.

      It‘s both, actually, at least on „Show of Hands“, plus a Roland Dimension D. AL use all three in his live rig for the „Hold your fire“ tour, the the 1210 providing the baseline flanging (always on), the Dim D providing baseline chorus (always on), and the CPL 2000 preamp chorus (= the front end of a GK 250] added for even more chorussing during leads.
      Everything said and done, the 1210 does the heavy lifting on ASOH; you can basically get most of his sound without the Dim D and the CPL 2000.

    • @BigHairyGuitars
      @BigHairyGuitars  Год назад

      if you have just these 2 boxes, yeah, you'd probably put the 1210 after the 2290. But people often used to pair the 2290 with a Lexicon PCM70, so the 2290 can do switch duties. The 2290 can do chorus, or delay PCM70 Reverb. OR the 2290 can do long delay and the PCM70 chorus. In larger rack systems, there would be a parallel mixer so all of the FX gets blended back together at the end, so all of the mono and stereo FX come together and go out in one big blend.

      The 1210 is being applied in-the-mix. I did this so that I could apply the hardware and software to the same performance. I have another video that I'm working on that will also have the 1210 between the preamp and power amp before the cab.

      @@BigHairyGuitars can you please also do an A/B of the unit set the same but one being in pre/power loop and another being outboard fx as you have it now.
      In general, it’s hard to find info on how the two differ. Not sure how actual records were even back in the day. Yes session dudes had their rack rigs (most useful for live but not necessarily studio) but who knows how they actually cut the records in top notch studios. Therefore it’s not fully known which is the best way to do it.
      With irs for instance one would need two load boxes for each power amp too so there’s that factor as well. Or just two cabs (but who uses actual cabs these days lol)

    Michael, you mentioned that in the future you would do a video on compressors. Do you have any multiband compressors in pedal format you could include in that video?

      I do have a vid on compressors coming. I don't know of any multi band compressors for guitar. I'm not generally fond of multi-band on guitar. Do you know of any good ones?

      @@BigHairyGuitars I know of the TC Electronic HyperGravity which can do multiband through the toneprint app. I'm aware of RT ElecTRonix Multiband Compressor, but I've never seen or heard one that I'm aware of. Boss makes the CP-1X which they call a multiband compressor, but I've never used it and don't quite see how to control multiple compression zones with it. Hence why I was asking for your input. :)

    We should write to Behringer/klark Teknik to clone this and sell it for 199.- .

    I'm looking for an effects unit with analog dry thru. Do you have any suggestions? One unit for live playing would be awesome. I know the Rocktron Intelli is.... trying to get rid of a huge pedal board. Thanks again!

    Any chance you can “kinda“ match this in the Kemper? You have the hardware and your making killer Kemper profiles. 😎

      There are ways to fudge the big picture in the Kemper. I have some really nice patches in the Huff pack that capture this vibe, but 1 to 1, you can’t.

    I’m as nostalgic about 80’s rack gear as the next guy…but most of this stuff was a pain in the ass back then,and even more now….it’s noisy,it’s finicky…I can get as good or better sounds with modern gear than with the vintage rack stuff….I get it though…I really do…I still have several pieces of my 80’s rack stuff..It’s cool to look back and remember when this stuff was cutting edge technology….

    How does this compare to the Stereo Chorus+ pedal they made for decades?

    • @BigHairyGuitars
      @BigHairyGuitars  3 года назад

      Very similar tonality. The 1210 actually feels like 2 of the chorus pedals, jammed into 1 rack.

    It would be fun to compare the Klark Technik BBD-320, a Dimension D workalike that is dirt cheap and has similarities to some 1210 modes of operation.
    I also am looking forward to you going further down the 80s cleantone rabbit hole. Active single coils and for Time Stand Still I’m pretty sure it’s a JC-120.
