My first ear to Elton was Part Time Love.
    I loved it as a 7yo !!!!!!!
Then I discovered the bookends, with Bernie.
Now, Don't Shoot Me is my favourite album ever !!!!!¡

I didn't know what album was discussed in this video.

Yeah, its not initially named in this convo, but the album is A SINGLE MAN, from 1978. Stuart does eventually say the title.

      I think “A Single Man” 1978

      'A Single Man'?

While recording 1978's A SINGLE MAN album, Elton wrote some lyrics, lines, song titles. The melodies actually came first and the words were added later. Clearly, A SINGLE MAN contains some subpar lyrics. Gary's or Elton's? Either way, not up to earlier standards. Elton, to this day, says that he still gets the magic when he gets a Bernie lyric...

This is about the "Single Man" album. Some good songs on there, and Paul Buckmaster really was a genius with his arrangements. The "Madman Across the Water" album has some incredible arrangements and of course some classic songs such as Tiny Dancer, and Levon etc.

Surely it works both ways: no Bernie=no Elton. No Elton=no Bernie. It is a songwriting team plain and simple. Mess with it and things change for better or for worse.

    I loved A Single Man.
Not a great album, but surprisingly solid one, that still seems to stand out.

Bernie would write such a variety of subject matter, a variety that other writers including Gary Osborne could never come up with. Songs like 'The King Must Die' or ' Crazy Water? A song about Whaling? Come on!!

Elton fans don’t recognize Victim of Love as a legitimate Elton John album. Even though it wasn’t discussed here, I just think that was a disaster from the word go. Elton phoned that one in. A Single Man is a fair assessment as to what Elton might have been without Bernie.

Paul Buckmaster was a genius , just listen to Bowie’s Space Oddity album , he also did an album with Bowie The Man Who fell to Earth soundtrack, unfortunately this hasn’t seen the light of day even after Bowie’s and Buckmasters death !

Tumbleweed Connection is forever etched in my mind because it was often in my 8 track while parked in the boonies with my gal.

Could you please edit that chat with Epps, we don't who he's talking about but would love to know! Elton spent 1 million pounds on flowers in a year at the top of his mania.

Elton told that same story about the cat way back during the Madman sessions! One can make up their own mind about the brevity of it occurring.

John had a wonderful voice till the silicon insert, he was so scared about his sexuality, do you know how much he let us down by that, while his champion shook hands with AIDs.
