Taron played the role better than Rami did. Rami only had one advantage really, and that's that he looked so much like Freddie. Other than that, everything about Tarons performance blows Rami's out of the water. Although as a movie I liked bohemian rhapsody more. Rocketman is more of a musical, and so the storylmtelling took a hit. But I will never say Taron didn't do it better. And he actually sang all the music in the movie by himself unlike Rami whose voice was used as backing, while original queen audio and an impersonators voice were used as the main audio.
The director of _Rocketman,_ Dexter Fletcher, had also been brought in as uncredited director to finish off _Bohemian Rhapsody_ after issues between the lead actor and the original highly problematic director. Comparisons beg to be made.
I adored the film. For those who love and have followed Elton John from the early 70s, we know the film wasn't historically accurate but it captured the spirit of him, Bernie and all those years we oldies fondly remember.

This movie was meant to be a mix of fact and fantasy. The tagline literally says "Based on a true fantasy". I loved this film. It was so different than the other stuffy biopics out there and I understood all the nuances and metaphors. It doesn't matter that the songs didn't line up chronologically. If you're a true fan like me, those things do not bother you. I saw this as something that jumped right out of Elton's head.
Great video of these facts about Rocketman. They should of explored more about how much Elton or Reg really loved Bernie but Bernie did not love him the way that Elton wanted him to as a boyfriend. I guess they kind of touched on it at the beginning of the movie but they should of done a little more about their relationship.
Did you know Elton John grew up and went to school at a town called Pinner on the outskirts of London. I also saw them filming scenes from a road near me in pinner
I saw the film yesterday and it is an amazing film!!! It is one of the best films I have ever seen. I hope it does well at the box-office this weekend.
My mom is a huge Elton John fan and she was so offended that they claimed the name was from John Lennon. She leaned over to me and whispered quite aggressively “he got it from Long John Baldry!!”
Pretty much my exact thought at that moment too. The effectively complete omission from the film of the late Long John (who played some major parts in Elton's life, but died in 2005) suggests either that somebody close to Elton has major issues, or that people close to Long John asked for him not to be mentioned.
Perhaps the reference to John Lennon was because the 2 of them were close friends and part of the Hollywood Vampires, a drinking club of famous musicians in the mid-70's. One time EJ & Lennon were even thrown out of the Troubadour for heckling the Smothers Brothers onstage.
Lets be clear, as all involved in the creation of this movie have stated: the movie is part fantasy and a journey of Elton's emotional journey- not a biopic! : )
@4:00, many of his songs were performed or old before being released as a recording. Also, I've seen other major artists perform songs that they "only did live" (quote from the show), and were then released on the new album 2 years+ later. Bryan Adams wrote I'm Ready in the 80s, but wasn't released until 1998.
I think the reason the chose to use Lennon as where Elton took his last name was a tribute to Elton and Lennon’s relationship/friendship that did not appear in the movie. Lennon and Elton had a great friendship which included Lennon’s song Whatever Gets You Through The Night, in which Elton played and sang on. Also it was Elton who got John and Yoko back together in 1974. It was at Elton’s MSG concert Lennon got on stage and they did a few (3?) songs together. This was the last live appearance in which Lennon preformed.
@@Sovairu Like Brokeback Mountain, Milk was released by Focus Features who explicitly release independent and foreign films. So it's not technically a major studio film either. does anyone have a link t the original concert where elton jumps on his hands in the piano? Elton John after Bohemian Rhapsody film: "Am i NOTHING to you?!?"
Loved this film. I was completely blown away. Also, I'm both pretty surprised and not surprised that the things that were changed were tweaked, but over all not big changes. The biggest changes were the group therapy sessions and the songs being out of order from when they were written. But those just help the film narratively. Definitely one of the best biographical movies I've seen that wasn't that documentary :)
something that was missed....John's landlord/ girlfriend. In the film, he comes out to her and she throws him and Taupin out and they sort of laugh it off. In reality, he was all set to marry her, and right before the wedding became suicidal. Friends intervened and convinced him to call off the wedding and come out to her. This event was the basis for the song Someone Saved My Life Tonight.
Correct and in desperation Elton tried to commit suicide by sticking his head in a gas oven but he left all the windows open. The next day his parents came in a van to take him home. 'Someone' was Bernie and 'Sugar bear' was Long John Baldry.
@@jaggass correct and I don't know why Long John Baldry was totally left out of the film? I was always under the impression Long John Baldry was a major part in his early life and career and the John in Elton John is from Long John Baldry.
On November 12, 1984, I remember Elton had to be carried off the stage and laid down for oxygen treatment. It was the last show on a grueling tour that year. This show was a make-up ticket for one he couldn’t make because of the flu. What song was he playing in Madison Square Garden when it happened? Correct! “Rocket Man.” He came back out after a few minutes of oxygen and started playing. “Benny and the Jets!” I think they chose that song at that moment because they could extend the intro and let him breathe a bit more. This was also part of the inspiration for the whole ballet scene in the back of “Dodger Stadium” in the movie-when he went down, it caused quite a commotion but he fought his handlers saying he wanted to finish. But there was no commotion quite like when he re-entered. Courage. Love you, Elton. 💜
Love how mojo thinks they know more about Elton John lmao Elton John even said in a interview that this movie is the most accurate movie about his life an what he went through, that he even cried during the preview
I’ve gotta say, Rocketman was a spectacular movie! Elton is one of my favorite artist and the fact that he was executive producer made the movie even better.
I have been a fan of Sir Elton’s music since the first time I heard him - 1970’s. Over the years, I have come to respect him for his humanity. Finding out about his addictions, I am very surprised that he didn’t die. I am so very thankful that he asked for help and is still STANDING. I hope that he’ll be here for many more years.
My rant for the day. If I read one more post from someone who "hates" the Rocketman movies because the songs are out of chronological order I am going to scream. So let me set some expectations for those who have not seen it yet (but SHOULD soon). This is not a biography of Elton as Bohemian Rhapsody was to Freddie Mercury. It is much more nuanced and clever than just being a typical biography with a starting point, middle and ending. It is a true "musical" fantasy told in revolving timelines and using the the words and music of Elton and Bernie (from all era's) as the basis for the telling of thier personal story and the story of Eltons childhood (yes, that is 2001's I want Love as the soundtrack for Eltons youth in the 1960's), early career and overwhelming success in the 70's. If you go in with a closed mind and expecting a Lifetime Channel biography of the week teleplay (with better acting) you will be denying yourself the opportunity to truly immerse yourself in one of the best movies of the past few years. See it for what it is and enjoy. Not for what you think it should be.
David, there's a reason so many people go into, say, watching this movie with a closed mind. They go into everything in life with a closed mind. Their minds are just closed, period. It's called "average intelligence," and it afflicts the vast majority of people, especially the ones you'll find on social media. You're not going to educate them, you're only going to drive yourself crazy reading their ignorant crap. But great comment.
When Elton John pitched the idea her told the writers that he didn't want it to be a biopic. He wanted it to be a Musical. And that's what they gave him and us. It's an awesome movie and no one can change my mind.
I agree but these aren't major changes that affects the storyline and the enjoyment of the film. It's very cleverly put together and the music keeps the story moving and alive despite some of the songs being played at the wrong period. Having went to see the movie it is a great movie and reminds the audience of the contribution of music Elton and his co writer produced, some incredible songs from Rocketman to I'm still standing and all in between..... I left knowing more about Elton John, his character and the manipulation the music executives placed on him. The pressure and the willing hangers-on, people who were there for the money, how drugs and alcohol were used to create a euphoric feeling and to cope with the touring schedules, how Elton survived is a small miracle. How he avoided the aids epidemic with constant sex parties.. Elton was lucky and now he provides millions for aids research and charities.... OK heal of the hunt go see this movie its brilliant..
I watched the movie yesterday. I must say, wether it got the facts right or wrong, it still left an incredible impact on me. These r the kinds of movies i enjoy watching from time to time, musical that some what ties into historical events in our world, kinda like Across the Universe
I saw the movie today it was amazing. Yeah you can tell its not in order, but its a musical so the songs were talking about what was going on. the editing was Great it flowed so well from scene to scene.
We need biopics for Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, the destructive interactions between The Ramones throughout their years, Janis Joplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd (will be a huge tear jerker), Eric Clapton, and Motorhead (uncensored to how crazy they were)
My all time favorite song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" was inspired by his friend convincing him to ditch his marriage to a woman who wanted him give up his music career. "slipnoose hanging in my darkest dreams" is about him becoming suicidal and depressed. I wish they included that bit in the movie.

April Dannette Gosa yes I know that. Many people probably thought it was fabricated due to the nature of the film
First time Ive ever heard Elton’s beautiful voice, was in the soundtrack for Road to El Dorado. Never makes a disappointing soundtrack.
Mine was the Lion King. When I heard "Can you hear the love tonight"
@@julz3tt3 same, when I was little my dad used to play that song to me a lot and I fell in love with his voice, I then started asking my dad to borrow his albums and I loved him even more, especially because he reminded me of my dad, years passed and I started listening to his other records by myself, it was an instant click, his music is like magic to me, and he is my favourite musician ever, he's also the reason why I decided to pursue my dream and become a composer, since I've been playing the piano from the age of four till now, I never realized this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life until I discovered Sir Elton H. John, I cried when I watched the film, I truly think his music is heart touching and inspiring, just like him.
@@victoriapd8001 agreed, the film was beautifully written and presented.
I think what'll surprise you more is that Elton sung none of these songs, they were also Taron Egerton.
I haven’t seen the film yet, but I’m pretty sure he and his audience never defied gravity while he was performing one night.

It’s based on what someone had said about that night’s performance. The film is a musical and musicals aren’t always known for realist conventions.
There is a real picture of Elton John playing the piano while both feet are high in the air. It's a 2 second snapshot in time but it's entertaining how the movie portrays it.
that moment when you can feel your science partner is just coping off of you.

It got easier for me after seeing the movie.

Loved this movie!!!! I just wish everyone would stop comparing it to BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY! I loved that movie equally as much! They are two GREAT movies about two ICONIC ROCKSTARS lives....just told in different ways! Go and enjoy both...you'll be glad you did!!!
This movie is far superior to Bohemian Rhapsody. Artistically beautiful.
He's NOT the man we think he is at home.

Oh no no no
He's a rocketman
@Maryse Bowen exactly
@Debbie Smith That depends on if you're referring to Elton John or Taron Egerton.
I adored the film. For those who love and have followed Elton John from the early 70s, we know the film wasn't historically accurate but it captured the spirit of him, Bernie and all those years we oldies fondly remember.

“... this is reportedly the first big-budget Hollywood feature to include an onscreen sex scene between two men”.
WatchMojo has never seen Brokeback Mountain, then.
Brokeback was produced as an indie film, not really a huge budget mainstream flick
Scott Bessho Ang Lee doesn’t direct indie films.
This is a funny know it all video. The movie was obviously not meant to be an accurate timeline. The kids who played Reginald were all fabulous!

I hate that people actually compare them, they’re completely different films and I hate to say one is “better” than the other
Eleanor Gouldie To say they are “completely different” is somewhat ridiculous, they definitely have similarities, and I do believe it is fair to compare them
This movie was meant to be a mix of fact and fantasy.
* Elton John was alive once. *

does anyone have a link t the original concert where elton jumps on his hands in the piano?
Great video of these facts about Rocketman. They should of explored more about how much Elton or Reg really loved Bernie but Bernie did not love him the way that Elton wanted him to as a boyfriend. I guess they kind of touched on it at the beginning of the movie but they should of done a little more about their relationship.
I love Elton. I fell in love with him in the early 70's and I was a kid. He's just amazing ❤️😍
Disliking watchmojo until they put lists back in the description

Did you know Elton John grew up and went to school at a town called Pinner on the outskirts of London. I also saw them filming scenes from a road near me in pinner
Did you know Bruno Tomioni from Dancing with the Stars was in the "I'm Still Standing" music video?
Mark Snow My guess is its the latter since it was produced by Elton John himself. But really they should have just gloss over the naming thing
@@lonerose99 They could have shoehorned John Lennon in without kicking Long John Baldry (a very significant friend of Elton's) out.
@@MnMsandOreos They couldn't gloss over it, because the name change was symbolic of the creation of the flamboyant person from the shy person.
Lets be clear, as all involved in the creation of this movie have stated: the movie is part fantasy and a journey of Elton's emotional journey- not a biopic! : )
If you are drunk and/or high for a good part of your life, you are apt to recall memories out of chronological order, and as a fantastical journey.
ActionAimz I was drunk & high for a good part of my life & this is generally pretty true
Also: the wedding was celebrated in Sydney and not in England.
I remember very well being glued to the set to see Elton & Renate & wishing I lived in Sydney!!
Thanks
I think the reason the chose to use Lennon as where Elton took his last name was a tribute to Elton and Lennon’s relationship/friendship that did not appear in the movie. Lennon and Elton had a great friendship which included Lennon’s song Whatever Gets You Through The Night, in which Elton played and sang on. Also it was Elton who got John and Yoko back together in 1974. It was at Elton’s MSG concert Lennon got on stage and they did a few (3?) songs together. This was the last live appearance in which Lennon preformed.
I'm pretty sure the name John predates Lennon's fame by a few years.
Elton John: **breaths**
Watchmojo: true
WatchMojo: "This is reportedly the first big budget Hollywood feature to include a sex scene between two men"
Brokeback Mountain: Am I joke to you??
It's all nonsense, but technically Brokeback was not a release by a major company (Focus Features).
There was also Milk. Of course, I'm sure that Short Bus couldn't be included for multiple reasons.
That scene was like 15 seconds long anyways...so shocking
@@Sovairu Like Brokeback Mountain, Milk was released by Focus Features who explicitly release independent and foreign films. So it's not technically a major studio film either. But again, these are all technicalities--Focus is owned by NBC/Universal for crying out loud--and it played in hundreds if not thousands of theatres.
I was looking for a comment like this! Thanks for pointing it out
rocket man is a musical fantasy , and not a biopic realistic as Bohemian rapsody so we can not really compared.
Bohemian Rhapsody realistic? Hahahah don't get me started
If its not a bio its romanticized. That's just the nature of the beast.
The most realistic / historically accurate biopic I've seen was Love & Mercy (Brian Wilson Biopic).
There's more Real life in rocketman than Bohemian rapsody. Mercury's party wasn't a Rotary meeting as the movie Played.
does anyone have a link t the original concert where elton jumps on his hands in the piano?
Elton John after Bohemian Rhapsody film:
"Am i NOTHING to you?!?"
If you couldn't tell Elton was gay by looking at the Caribou album cover you've lead a sheltered life.
This is such a great movie and Elton John is the bomb. I grew up in the 90s and his music still had an affect on my life.
Most of these things that are “factually incorrect” seem to be nitpicks as well

Hey guess what I hate that movie!
When Elton John pitched the idea her told the writers that he didn't want it to be a biopic. He wanted it to be a Musical. And that's what they gave him and us. It's an awesome movie and no one can change my mind.
It is a shame Long John Baldry isn't portrayed or mentioned in the film :(
Yes, and it's quite surprising for several reasons, so I wonder if his family specifically asked for him to be omitted.
dude Elton John was actually there to tell his life and the director said that this was just an fantasy when Elton was in rehab.

Doesnt matter. Elton John told Taron to do "his" thing and make his own. Elton also said he was very happy with Taron's portrayal.

It was a superb movie! Better than I’d imagined!!! Loved it!❤️
I saw the movie today it was amazing. Yeah you can tell its not in order, but its a musical so the songs were talking about what was going on. the editing was Great it flowed so well from scene to scene.
We need biopics for Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, the destructive interactions between The Ramones throughout their years, Janis Joplin, Lynyrd Skynyrd (will be a huge tear jerker), Eric Clapton, and Motorhead (uncensored to how crazy they were)
Taron Egerton is actually Elton John
WatchMojo: Believe it not, this is actually false
The thing is Elton was a producer on this film so whatever wasn’t accurate to real life events was given his approval.
I absolutely loved this movie! I hope Taron Egerton follows in Rami Malek's footsteps to picking up an Oscar next year. He was that good.
He was better than Rami. Fight me if you disagree.
@@WubbyPunch i agree. And he sang himself
