      They were two sides of a coin though… he wrote the lyrics to almost all of those Elton John classics…. For Elton not to be grateful, that would have been bad.. Elton said in 1994 that they should both be in the Hall and they wait 27 years….😒

    I was a driver in L.A., back in the late 2000s, and I had the pleasure of picking up and driving Mr. Taupin. On the drive, I had on a jazz station, and a trombone player's song came on. Right away he knew it was J.J. Johnson. I had all the respect in the world for him for knowing that! He knew music!

      @mikeoakley7470 Oh, I totally think not! I do believe that the John-Taupin songwriting partnership is a true act of God! They're not just one-in-a-million, they're one in an eternity!! Sure, someone else could've written music to Bernie's incredible lyrics, and of course, Elton can and has written music to the words of others, but together, these two have been SO much more than the sum of their parts! To say that they bring out the best in each other's work is a gross understatement - together, they simply are The Best!!! 🌟🎶👑👑

They have a lyrical musical connection that goes on and on. Today Bernie is being recognized for his beautiful words that are the center of Elton's music. It is fitting Elton John would be the one to induct Bernie into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It is a full circle moment for both Elton & Bernie. One Elton & Bernie's fans rejoice with. THE greatest song writer of all time! The way Bernie Taupin puts words, images, and stories together are pure genius! I have been a life long admirer since my teens! My very first concert was Elton John in the early 70s at McNichols Arena in Denver Co! Bernie Taupin played in Denver in the 90s and came to my place of work The Oxdord Aveda Spa/ Hotel in Denver. He was personally handing out flyers to tell people he was playing! ( I missed this opportunity on my day off!! 😢) However, this video is epic and I am so so happy to finally see his name in lights and being honored with this very well deserved Award!!! • @Nordicroo
    @Nordicroo 6 месяцев назад +21

    The leap from "Empty Sky" to the "Elton John" album had a lot to do with Producer Gus Dudgeon. Dudgeon knew exactly what was needed sound wise for Elton John's music. He was an important and integral part of the success. He is often forgotten. Just like George Martin helped The Beatles with their sound.

    • @lavalp
      @lavalp 6 месяцев назад +2

      Absolutely. Dudgeon's ears were amazing. And Paul Buckmaster. And...the band he had. Where do you stop? That's why picking favorites from the crowd is very tricky and not easy to define and inherently limited and subjective.
      But they have a show and a museum to sell to the public. I don't deny the entertainment value of it all. So, whatever.

    • @Nordicroo
      @Nordicroo 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@lavalp I actually really like "Empty Sky" and wouldn't change a thing about it. But I was happy with the new direction with subsequent albums especially the early to mid 1970s ones. Elton and Bernie were on fire during that period. But as you said "Dudgeon's ears were amazing" and he knew what he had in Elton John's musical abilities.

    I still have a wonderful book a friend gave me back in the 70's called ( I think)" Bernie Taupin - the one who writes the words for Elton John "

    Fantastic, I am an avid lyric writer as a hobby , his lyrics always intrigued me. This is the first time I notice Elton to have a more frail voice than he ever did, age is on for us all, he is still one of my most undesputed heroes, him and Bernie gave me a fantasy World of dreams , in fact they are the reason I moved to the US. In the early 80ties , at 13 years old I bought Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, that was it, I wanted to move to America, and I did. Thank you guys

      Guessing you noticed that he also delivered his remarks sitting down. Hoping that doesn’t portend something more serious.

    I love Elton more because he is so casual in giving credit to Bernie as well.

    Elton needed his own sound people there, the sound is awful. A bit of reverb on his vocals and on the piano would've made the world of difference and really lifted this. Speaking as a huge Elton fan here by the way, he is still amazing!

      That's also the sound from the television, the television speakers... who knows what it sounded like at the event, you can't really judge it that well. But in a certain way you're right about the reverb on his voice. The sound on the last studio albums was a bit dry, so a little more reverb would have been better...

      I think this recording was taken from a television set. You never will get authentic sound from a TV set. Finding the bottom is like finding an honest politician in Washington. It is going to be tough.

    I’ve enjoyed Elton John and Bernie Taupin since the first album I bought, “Elton John”. Watching the Rocketman movie changed the meaning of the songs, made them clearer to me. Good job both of you.

    Bernie and Elton have brought us all a lot of joy in their music for all these years. I am not sure what was transacting within the universe that brought the two together but it was pure alchemy.
