Cat Stevens one of the best voices to ever grace the music scene. Profound lyrics, Poet Spiritual, Legend. Sounds as good as he did 40 years ago. Well deserved!
Omg. Perfectly said. I remember watching this live and weeping. What a kind and gentle man. What a marvelous poet, songwriter, musician. Long overdue recognition. Thank you.
This guy is like a living time capsule. Such an unbelievable artist in his heyday…and then poof…he was gone. Unlike Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke, and Jim Croce, he didn’t die…he just vanished. To have him back is really such a blessing. He gave voice to a generation to find themselves when the world was just as complicated in it’s own way as it is now. Can’t thank him enough for coming back and renewing the spirit he generated. So profound and touching is his presence. He exudes peace and hopefulness. God Bless you Yusuf/Cat!!
I have tears watching this today, I did not expect that, he still moves me so deeply. Yusuf is the most loved song writer of our generation with a heart of gold, a beautiful voice that pierces my heart and the debts of my soul. He lifts me up above the cold world and takes me to where only love exists 💗
It's just amazing how he can make everyone smile broadly and have a good time. He really does spread peace to souls of people around him and to the world.
It is 8-31-23 and i am just seeing this. May i say, Yusuf/Cat you have been a part of me since the 70's. I love all of your music. I will be 67 in a few months, so we will call it a lifelong fan. Keep the Peace Train rolling, Love Always to you.
As is his humble ways, Yusuf thanks himself as Cat, his father and 'Morning Has Broken' tribute his mother - his first love - I love this man and all he stands for. Music IS the great PEACEMAKER and BOND shared by all, I believe. Salaam to all. Hail to our Yusuf! Thank you dear kind gentle heart for all the love and peace and bonding you have given to the world.
I have loved you forever. I still know the lyrics after all these years, I'm seventy-three. One of my favorites Mona Bone Jakon. Peace and love.

I remember when Yusuf quit music at the height of fame, etc., I have come to understand the profound dedication and transition of his life in the discovery of Islam. With much respect.
I'm still listening to my Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat cds. Cat Stevens was my first concert. What a great artist and still has his fabulous voice!
What a beautiful person you are Cat/Yusuf. I have been a fan of you for more than 40 years of my life. Thank you for your Sound, Music, Voice, Lyrics, etc. .I am a woman that always has admired you, and Thank God gave me a beautiful husband, man, father of my kids, friend and soulmate that introduced me to your Songs! THANKS HEAPS CAT/YUSUF!!!.
Congratulations Cat! 🎉🎈🎊 Your induction was long awaited. You've touched so many hearts & souls. You have always been a part of our lives! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! We love you! Peace be with you always! 💕🤗💕✨🙏🏼✨🕊
Cat Stevens was my very favorite in early 1970’s I listened to your songs 24-7! your cover drawings were sweet, I bought all your vinyls and sang your songs, still do. Then suddenly you were completely ostracized and my heart broke for you. Yes Almighty took you and kept you real. Thanks for being such an inspirational part of my life!
I fell in love with the music of this man when I was 12, I'm still in love with his music, but added on top of it are his soul, his character and his humility. Thanks Yousuf, for everything you added to our lives, that make other things going around bearable...
I was driving in our car when my daughter at 5 years old looked at me and Daddy, is there only one road to get back home? I said " no sweetheart, there are many"...she put her finger to her chin and said " Daddy, I think that is like religion and GOD....there are many roads to get to GOD...right? I pulled over and cried while hugging her! I said, yes that is correct! Honesty from a child is as pure, is good and full of Love! Let us all....Christianity, Judaism, Islam embrace and go forward together with Love. Is not that what GOD wants from us....to Love each other.
I grew up with Cat Stevens. My mum had all his records so I listened to them. His Glastonbury set was amazing. I'm proud to wear my Cat Stevens t shirt and people stop to say how much they like him as well. A one off and a truly great musician .
I remember the first time in 1971 I heard "Peace Train" - I was totally mesmerized. To this day [2023 and yes, I'm 70+ years old], Peace Train still effects me the same way! Thank you Yusuf for impacting my life in ways words fail me [and forgive me for thinking 'Cat Stevens' everytime I hear this song...I do catch myself up to Yusuf though]. Peace!
I can't help but notice the juxtaposition on "Father and Son" ... and it makes me think, where did the time fly? When he made it a hit record he was the son in that song, but when he sang it at this award ceremony he was the father.
My favorite hippie era artist ,i have listened his music since my chidhood , and i still do , is a unique artist , that combines lirics , composition, and talent ,is amazing the creativity of this human being with a Guitar , his soul and his heart .
I've been listening to this amazing man's music since 1973! Can recite every word of each of his songs just about. Thank-you for all of it. Stay Blessed!
@theKrausman he kept his name: Steven, when he chose his stage name. He adopted another when he converted to Islam, as is commonplace. This guy is a legend.
My choice of songs when the kids are in the car with me . Such a peaceful voice and clean family friendly music. Breath of fresh air unlike the rubbish currently playing on the mainstream radio. Love your work ❤
This induction was so long overdue and unless you were alive during the height of Cat Stevens' popularity it's hard to explain just how enormous he was in the early 70's. For his particular genre, singer-songwriters, you couldn't get any bigger than Cat Stevens, which made it all the more puzzling when he just up and decided to quit making music at the absolute height of his popularity. It was especially puzzling for a young child, totally incapable of being a deep thinker, which is what I was at that time. All I knew was this amazing artist who had a slew of hit songs on the radio decided to call it quits, and he totally disappeared from the public eye as soon as he made that decision, never to be seen or heard from again. I actually remember asking another kid, slightly older than me but just a kid too nonetheless, why Cat Stevens would do such a thing, and he told me Cat Stevens became a Monk. LOL 🤣 Obviously he knew Cat chose some kind of religious conversion, but he didn't know what to call it either, so he called it a Monk. 😂 Of course me not knowing any better, I just accepted that as factual and for quite a few years I just assumed Cat Stevens was a Monk and living in a Monastery or some such thing. LOL Hey, I was just a kid so I didn't know any better. Only as I entered my teens did I find out the true story, but either way that's why this induction and reappearance seems so special to me, even more special than the usual R&R HOF inductions.
The funny thing is that I pretty much thought and felt the same way as you, but for me, this all happened when I was in college. I guess I wasn’t a very deep thinker either. All I knew was that he became a Muslim and stopped singing. I was heart broken, and obviously pretty selfish for feeling that way. I’m happy that he’s bask to performing.
He was right about one thing - it was a risk inducting him into the R n R Hall of Fame. Another Saturday Night, Wild World, and Peace Train were rock by some standards, but he was clearly never a rocker. Then dropping out for a religious conversion put some people off. That said, his music (a massive catalog given the time he was active) was so fundamental to what pop-rock was in the early 70s. Since then nearly everyone seems to have covered at least one of his songs. I think it was a good move, and well deserved. Still, they took a risk, but for all the right reasons.
I was a lawyer in Cleveland for a firm and worked on a matter for the Rock Hall. At the end of a client meeting the Director asked me if I wanted to go to the Hall for free. I told him I refuse to go until Cat Stevens was inducted. He chuckled at the joke-but it wasn’t actually a joke.
Sorry but your little friend was y wrong. Because I m from South America and I was a teenager and I read on the newspapers he became budist and a Monk. And he was living in the mountains. And only a few days ago I ve read he became into the Islam. I don t know anything else about those past years
What poetry, heart touching gripping love and pain and peace and wholeness. The 60’s and 70’s were Yousef/Cat Stevens! My brother and I would sing your songs on the beaches in Palermo growing up as teens! Thank you ! 💙🤗 may Allah bless you and the world with many more years of giving InShALLAH!
God Bless you Yusuf, you are so sweet, each time I hear your speech and listen to your amazing performance on this night, my heart melts. Don't ever forget how amazing you are. 😊💗
How I love this man. He was and still is devastingly handsome and so effing talented. I grew up in rock and roll..except for him. He was a whole different experience and I loved the vibe his music put me in. I was a chronic runaway child and Wild World was my secret theme song.. It still is. Thank you for the whole experience. And BTW I was pleasently surprised to see Waddy Welchel accompany him on guitar.
I am so in awe of you, Ustaz Yusuf. I am in my 40s, and my own mother brought me up a fan of your music. I found this video clip while introducing you and your music to my little girls. Thank you for inspiring my family with your lovely melodies for 50+ years now.
I grew up to Cat Steven's songs; my high school years (break time) were spent mostly on the stairs of our school with classmates/friends singing while the guys playing the guitars! Oh high school days, the best part of my life! A well-deserved award, congratulations (7 years late).....but better late than never! Love you and God Bless you more! Our high school 50th anniversary is coming up (2023); and for sure, we will include in our program most of your songs!
Growing up in the 90s, I discovered Cat Stevens from my mom. I've always been fascinated by him, given he didn't fall into the same pattern as so many incredibly famous artists in reaching the top and falling so very far, runing their life forever. He certainly has been tested so many times in his life, but chose to walk away from it all for his own sense of salvation. That takes so much incredible courage, and now so many years later he's found a way to rejoin his old world with his new world. He sounds absolutely amazing, and it's so admirable to watch someone stay true to their authentic self.
