The audio temporarily cuts out at 5:22, Officer Tatum accuses homosexuality of trying to manipulate straight men into being with men 🤡
Oh okay
Ah yes it is banned by law in many countries to be a heterosexual man (?????????????)
oh god I thought it was just me
@@PaulG_1985 you have my sincerest condolences. I hope you are doing alright
@@PaulG_1985 I'm so sorry to hear that, plz stay safe and I wish u the best:)
For anyone that didn't get the joke, "does your mom know you're gay?" Is a playground insult that kids would do. The idea was that no matter what answer you gave, you're admitting you're gay and it was then used to make fun of you. It's homophobia for 9 year olds, and he's saying that all the people that focus on him being gay over everything else are acting like bigoted children
thanks for the explanation!!!
My primary school bully was homophobic and he used to say that and make fun of people for being or 'acting' gay and i always found the fact that he was a closet gay (saying that loosely) to be very ironic. His parents (as far as i know) wherent homophobic and our school was quite inclusive. I just hope he was able to come to terms with himself since.
Oh, thx! Homophobes r so dumb 🙄
I just thought it was a Yo Mama joke, but ok
I remember back in middle school the joke was, are you gay or lesbian no matter what answer you gave.
Lil Nas X is honestly an icon for queer youth. I love how unapologetically gay he is. He doesn't hide his sexuality and is comfortable being himself and I love that.
Edit: Omg thanks for all the likes!
Love y'all!!
agreed the dude makes his haters an object of ridicule and is having fun.
Truly I’ve been saying this and he’s taking so many steps for the lgbtq+ community
Reminds me of Adam Lambert, and I love it
Most of the boys at my school like lil nas x but are still homophobic and says slurs both racist and homophobic
@No Name
fr homophobic ppl in my school are singing montero and i refuse to tell them what it’s actually about✨
To add: Elton John has praised Lil Nas X, complimenting his music and saying he has balls of steel. Dude is a king. He's not stupid, he *knows* why Lil Nas X is important for doing what he's done.
Nice!
Lil Nas X pushes boundaries and he is a large success while close to my age so I’ve grown to like him after the old town road days. Elton John is also a cool guy so I’m happy to hear he praised him.
Damn. No i imgine a cOllab. This would be intefesting
@@KaliqueClawthorne I want that now
thats because hes gay
My theory on why Jack Harlow is locked up despite not being gay is that he is seen or perceived by some groups as "sus or suspect." Just based on his humor and comments he's made in the past. He totally addresses this in his verse saying, " I don't clear up rumors, where's your sense of humor?"
possibly.
That’s so clever. Maybe he’s “sus” because he’s in a song with lil nas x. Guilty by association?
I interpreted his character as a ally so that's why he would be in prison too: bc he is percieved as gay (or sus) by the homophobes (since it's the only reason why he would help other gay ppl). Him being w a woman could mean that no matter if people perceive allies as gay/queer and try to lock them up too, their sexuality is still valid while they help and stand by the lgbtq community (him giving the tools to escape to lil nas), even if there are consequences.
Tbh i didn't know Jack Harlow before this song so i didn't know people thought he was sus, your interpretation makes totally sense

@@demosteneswiggin5122 exactly. He's so good at trolling them.
Did Lil Nas X say this video was for children? I’m sure it’s rated at least TV-14 on tv. Just because a child has access to something, doesn’t not mean it’s for them. It’s not Lil Nas X’s job to parent your children.
I swear to gay, every homophobe’s excuse for being homophobic is either one of the following or all of them:
1. “It goes against my religion”
2. “They’re children, they shouldn’t be exposed to gay!”
3. “They’re not gay, they’re doing it for attention!”
4. “They’re turning the straights gay!”
5. “Being gay is a choice.”
He explicitly sent out a disclaimer on twitter 2 days before the video dropped knowing people were gonna complain "but the children!!!!!!!" At this point they're just ignoring him and trying to find something to complain about.
@@ashleypisarts im sorry but "I swear to gay" is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time😭
He explicitly said on Twitter it wasn’t for kids lmao
@@ashleypisarts also "it's not natural"
I give a pass for the Jack with a girl scene... You might not be gay and still go to gay prison for being percieved as one; such as you might go to prison even though you haven't commited a crime. And just by being a ally ( or even to have the "It doesn't concern me" attitude ) is enough for the homophobes to brand you as gay.
On account of the security guard watching the music video, I thought it was a reference on hypocrisy. Like how the ones loudest against gay people are the ones who are secretly gay.
Yeah. That was my first thought too when I saw the guard watching the music video.
Reminds me of the story where a cis woman was sent to a men's prison because she was on estrogen, so they assumed she was trans. Bigotry and hate doesn't need much more than speculation to go after someone.
Yea he even raps in the music video "I'm still out here getting cuter"
True.
I really don’t understand homophobic people- like how is a guy liking other guys bothering you and your life??? Like you got bills to pay the last thing you need to worry about is someone’s sexuality 💀

I also think that the Montero state prison could be a metaphor for condemning himself and hating himself for being gay since all the people who sentence him are played by him. Not to mention its Montero state prison and Montero is his real name. To me it read like he was forcing himself into this prison because of how people treated him but later grows to accept himself
I love that interpretation! It could also be a metaphor for how you can be imprisoned by the expectations people have of you. Like, he's locked up by what people thought montero was supposed to be while he was growing up.
Work
Oh hell yeah. I didn't know that was his real name. Once you said that, the whole thing made sense: he's locked in the prison of his own mind, but the tools to escape are also inside of him.
I love this interpretation! 💚

I like how homophobes always bring up “the children.” NOT EVERYTHING IS MADE FOR CHILDREN! Nobody’s trying to influence the children. Also, you as the parent have the power to control what your kids consume.
They say that but let their kids listen to wap in the background, or ANY type of sexual song. 💀 They always say "think of the children" when it comes to gay people.
I really hate breeders who think the whole world should cater to their crotch goblins. No, you made them, you take care of them. Parent your kids and let adults enjoy adult content without having to worry about someone else's children.

@@beetlebob4675 cool. Then why do you need to promote it amongst children?
I honestly think that the whole "outrage" over Jack being with a woman in the MV was blown wayyyy out of proportion by the homophobes. Literally all the "outrage" that I've seen against Jack, were silly jokes about him wanting to "make it clear that he's straight," idk why people are acting as though the LGBTQ community is genuinely upset about it.
Wait homophobes are actually making a big deal out of it? 😭 they read way into that, i'm gay I honestly was just bopping to the music lol.

Then maybe he shouldn't have such an openly sexualised video.

Frankly, as a gay male, I do feel like we should recognize that allies do sometimes get punished for being allies. Sure, it probably is not as bad and does not happen AS frequently, however it is still a thing that happens, so having someone who is an ally is actually just being inclusive which is what to strive to do. Either way, a straight man being in the video doesn't really take away from anything, in fact it shows that straight people can help by being an ally, even if they get punished and that they can be with us. We are one whole group and the more we stand together, the more we can show love and help everyone be themselves without punishment.
Also it's a choice, so any nonsense they absorb for our sake deserves credit too
I think you'd be great at TED talks (or however you spell it, idfk).
@@acdeeiprrt what do mean by that? Are you saying being gay is a "choice"? Bc if you are that's messed up. We were born that way and we can't control it. I'm sorry if I took it out of context.

@The Return of Cassidy Callahan artists change???
@The Return of Cassidy Callahan mmm okay if youre gonna try to be “woke” and knowledgable on lil nas x and his relationship to child fans why dont you actually say the whole story. lil nas curses in old town road, he admitted that it was never ever ever targeted towards children. it was the fault of parents and parents only that this song that was never child-safe became predominantly watched by children. it was unexpected and that was NOT his audience choice. after that happened he decided to embrace it because he was still grateful. because thats what you do when you have fans. he ALSO explained that he was okay with having a predominantly child audience FOR NOW. but he ALWAYS explained that it was never going to be permanent and that wasnt his audience goal. youre really painting this picture that was never there to begin with.
I think Lil Nas X is an absolute hero and I'm not even necessarily a huge fan of this type of music. He is doing such an important work refusing to lay down and be the good silent queer people want us to be and showing others that you can and should be loud and proud. Lil Nas X is a huge inspiration, honestly! We're the same age, graduated the same year, so it's amazing seeing a dude be successful gay man so young. It feels realistic to be able to do that. when he's pumping iron in the yard, the camera focuses on the butterfly tattoo on his neck. at first I thought this was a coincidence but then the butterfly appears again on the pages of the book of montero. him working out along with the image of the butterfly might symbolize him taking time to work on himself and the effort it takes to learn self love. butterflies symbolize rebirth, transformation and self improvement. it can also symbolize finding one's "true self"

It's really weird how people always act like it's about "protecting the children". 1) it is not the responsibility of anyone but the parent to parent children, 2) a lot of these people act like every time you, as an adult, do something, you need to think of children even if you do not have children or have no intention of interacting with children... It's pretty weird to think of children all the time, 3) it isn't about children at all. It's all because the people yelling about it are uncomfortable and just want to use children to justify their outrage.
@@trick669 At no point did I say that. What I dislike is people hiding behind excuses to justify their bigotry. There are things children shouldn't be exposed to and that's the responsibility of the parent/caregiver to keep their children away from those things. Pushing the blame onto the thing is removing any responsibility or accountability from the parent/caregiver who failed to care for that child and their wellbeing. It's like letting your child play with a lit candle then trying to sue the candle company when something inevitably goes wrong. People need to take responsibility and take care of their kids. (Note: if you just came here to argue then you won't get another reply. I'm not interested in an argument. If you didn't then I apologize if I at any point came across as rude. People just tend to be... Angry a lot.) (TLDR: I don't hate children. Parents/caregivers need to take responsibility. Every now and then I think about how he didn't even wanted to come out first but did it to give strength to others and now he's an icon
okay i love the way lil nas went off on people but the way you went off on homophobes at the end sent me omg
I love Industry Baby. been playing it non stop.
I actually thought the song was dope but knew it was gonna be controversial
i think it's a tiny weeny interesting how the conservatives got mad with wap and lil nas x bc it's only ok to express sexuality when it's a straight man talking about women. don't get me wrong, im a man who likes women but im just saying it's a little interesting 😌👀
When I said I was bigender, in my case, I identify as part male, part female.
6:01 btw, all this "Evil being cool" thing. the Devil ain't evil. he "punishes" evil. big difference, Sammy. you know that Satan was once an angel, right? he tried to lead a rebellion again God, but failed. and as punishment, he was sentenced to rule over hell.
WAIT WHAT is this arc in the Bible?? its been a while since I've looked at it
@@kemmalia6823 i think it is. (i was just referencing what i know from the series, Lucifer, on Netflix.)
@@kemmalia6823 it sort of happened like this its a book they took out of the Bible
Haters be using so many words just to say they are homophobes.
Same thing with racists, misogynists, xenophobes... bigots never scream their true intentions
Homophobe is used loosely because no one is scared to be around little Nas just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they're homophone
@NetherWolf ad hominem much?
@@yourbanned4522 please get out of here with that "we're not afraid of you" crap. Homophobia is more than just fear, you know it, so stop it
@@yourbanned4522 well I see we got a homophobe here that’s quite obsessed with this comment section lol, I recommend listening to Mariah Carey babe ❤️
The strong symbolism I think is a reference to the Shawshank redemption, a film which strongly criticized gay men and how Tim Robbins escapes hiding a small rock hammer in the Bible and making a tunnel which he hid with a poster of attractive women which he has changed to attractive men
@8Ball mashups this is the first Shawshank Redemption reference I have read that explains it correctly...there are so many younger persons who miss that reference. I guess because they haven't seen that movie. It just shows how well Lil Nas X thought out the details when creating the storyline in this video. Using symbolism, imagery, and metaphors are traits of a genuine artist; not a fly-by-night or one-hit phenomenon.
Its so damn annoying that right wing media and other homophobes keep using the bs "he's trying to corrupt the kids" line when he very specifically tweeted before it was even released that the video wasnt for kids.
homophobes have no brain at this point
@@prismmioouu at this point? they never did 🤨
@@lilyl1ly yeah sorry lol. they dont even know what a valid argument is
The court case is an allegory for his conscience going back and forth with himself about who he is. 5 years in Montero prison is a sentence of self questioning (Montero is his RL name - so he is "imprisoned" within himself). All this while trying to deal with something outside himself (Nike). Then the tool in the book (who you are is already written, you knew it all along) is used to break himself out. After leaving the prison, begins wearing his identity on his sleeve, which emboldens others to do the same.
12:41 pretty sure that's supposed to be an electric chair, not an example of ECT. Either way there's great fucking symbolism though 😂
12:45 it’s not electric shock therapy
It’s just an electric chair (death penalty) ❤️love you girl
that shade of lipstick on u is everything 😩💞💓💗💕
Omg I didn't realise that the jail bit was a metaphor 😳 Omg this has made it 10x better
That euphoria I feel when Nas throws the gay wrist 🥰
Idk if the "shock therapy" part was meant as a joke, but either way, that's an electric chair, which is an executional device.
