I played with dolls, loved dress up and painting my nails as a kid, I was very feminine but still a boy I felt like a boy and still do. I also still paint my nails. Being a child with traits of the opposite sex doesn't push you to be trans. Straight cis male.

I will be walking down the street with my girlfriend (she is bi) and have homophobic slurs shouted at me because I have my nails painted or one day I'm wearing my unicorn baseball cap. These are just small fashion choices I occasionally make and when people shout these abusive things I can go into my mind and laugh it off as I'm straight and literally walking with my girlfriend, but it makes me so sad as these people will obviously shout these things at anyone different and how that level of random hate would effect a young LGBTQ+ person must be really damaging.

it’s kinda how you make friends, you’re typically gonna make friends similar to you, so not using some labels will make it difficult (i.e. a shy kid might not make a lot of really loud kids)

Sex is the biologial characteristics such as DNA, genitals, and "internal plumbing" that causes doctors to assign people to groups where those traits are found, typically male and female. If someone expresses a mixture of these sex characteristics or an absence of certain characteristics then they are intersex. There are a lot of intersex people who do not know they are intersex if you use the "traditional" definition of sex because there are more chromosonal varieties than the common xy and xx. Gender is the roles, rules, clothes, personalities, that we assign to people based on their sex as well as people's interaction with the world and their bodies. Gender is different in different cultures and gender norms are constantly evolving. Someone can "feel" a certain gender because they have dysphoria (they feel their physical characteristics do not match the way they relate to the world) but the science backs up that trans people often do have the neurological features that are normally specific to cis people of their same gender. If someone doesnt feel comfortable with the way the world relates to them but feels comfortable with the sex characteristics of their body they can also be trans. Its pretty complicated and i'm kinda bad at explaining things but I tried my best with the scientific knowledge that i have researched.

In their minds, intersex=trans/nonbinary. You can have all the biological evidence in the world, and these people will think it's the same thing as being trans or nonbinary, which in their minds, doesn't exist. Trust me, this is coming from an intersex person. I've had family members tell me that my literal biology is just a phase, no matter how many times we explain it to them.

“how many genders are there?” who knows and who cares? gender is a complex, conceptual, social and cultural identity that means different things to different people. it is a social construct. if someone’s gender identity is unfamiliar to you, then do research about it instead of judging them, approaching something you don’t understand with love and curiosity is just as easy as doing so with negativity and hate. i’d argue that there’s 0 genders but there’s also an infinite amount of genders as well, but like i said, who knows and who cares.
It’s a spectrum, for me there’s 4 sides. Agender, some kind of “all” option, masculine, and feminine. Everyone falls somewhere (like I’m genderfluid, closer to the “all” option.) Non-binary falls into a place between masculine and feminine (the two “binary” genders). Demigirl would be between agender and feminine, ectera.

The thing is, the segment got the women thinking about their positions. If there had been an attempt to debunk outright, they would have hardened their minds against the information. This way, they have some nagging doubts about their presumptions and may be more open to information over time. This stopped being an argument about theoretical scary transgenders and is now about real people that they've met and talked with. There are some cracks in their assumptions so light can shine in. I have a coworker with some scary right-wing positions, but instead of just throwing facts at him, I've asked questions and made him re-examine his positions. He's by no means a liberal now, but he's come around on a few things, like how stupid bathroom bills are.

I used to do things that I thought were more "boyish" to seem less like a girl, but that wasn't because I was trans, it was because I was taught that women were weak, and I didn't want to be perceived as weak. Okay, Hi. Multiple scientists have proven that being transgender is scientifically valid. It is not 9th grade biology, it is extremely advanced and commonly hard to understand. Transgender and non-binary people are valid and it has been proven to be scientifically valid by hundreds of gender based studies. Gender is a complex spectrum, it is hard to understand and not everyone will know about every single part of it.

That doesn't mean that women are less transphobic - I mean Jk Rowling, Gun Girl and Gina Carano are prime examples of transphobic women, and the whole TERF movement -, but in online discussions it's mostly men who say that stuff (I assume women keep their transphobia more to themselves or just arent given the same platform to spread their bigotry)

Another one of the things I hate about the whole “tomboys are encouraged to think they might actually be male” is that not only is it usually transphobic, but it also attempts to invalid butch women who are confident in themselves as women and proud of their presentation. People constantly thought I was a boy and questioned me about it when I was younger and they did it out of ignorance and not acceptance. But my response to that was never to question my gender. Instead, my response was to realize those people were ignorant and to insist that I was a girl. I also came to dislike it when people called me a tomboy because I was not a “boy type of girl,” was just a girl as far as I was concerned. It’s quite the opposite of what transphobic people are suggesting: when you know you’re a girl, you are, and when you know your a boy, you are, and your mind will insist on it.

Saying that you love them, but that you don't agree with who they are isn't love. It's just you be tolerant not loving. It shows that your love has conditions instead of being unconditional. Your DNA copies itself and makes proteins (RNA), when making new cells, but down the line, there can be mutations or changes to the way the DNA or RNA is coded. That's why you go through puberty, why your hair or body shape completely changes into adulthood, why you gray. Heck, the environment you live in will effect it. Sometimes changes and mutations will happen regardless. But sure, your DNA is EXACTLY the same, your whole life.

Gender is not a social construct. Look at David Reimer, who was raised as a female before transitioning back into being a male because living as a girl basically gave him dysphoria. The Jubilee "Middle Ground" videos always rubbed me the wrong way... They try to frame these issues as having two equal sides, or even try to frame these issues as being up for debate. Sex isn’t just chromosomes. Also there are 26 (on average)chromosomes, not 2. Sex characteristics, while they are biologically dependent without medical intervention, on DNA, are not confined to those last 2 chromosomes. What you look like (hair color, skin color, eye color, eye shape, primary sex characteristics, secondary sex characteristics, etc.) isn’t decided on just one set of genes on a single chromosome. Each trait has many different sets of genes on multiple chromosomes. The chromosome argument is bogus, no two ways about it.
When it comes to the “how many genders are there?” question, I give the lawyer’s answer, it depends. Different cultures perceive different gender identities differently.

I relate so much to the transwoman speaking at 13:07 about not coming out to her dad until she was 33 due to the fear of losing him. I was only able to come out as non-binary to my dad in August of 2020 at 35. And even though he accepted me, it was so scary.
I'm not convinced I'll ever come out to my parents unless I get to a point where I literally can't hide it anymore. I already know they won't agree or understand, and I don't want to have to be the one with all the answers when I'm still figuring things out. I wish the video went on to say what her father's reaction was, because all I can assume is that it was negative. And that scares me.
I've taken numerous anthropology classes including biological anthropology, and the fact that those girls are using chromosomes as an argument is just... or using biology as an argument is just so like... no chromosomes or any DNA is inherently male or female, we as humans just ASSIGNED them to be like that. I'm AMAB and I thought for 14 years I was just a boy. I had (and still have) long hair and so when I was younger people would call me a girl and I would get annoyed. Now, though, literally in the span of two months, I hate my name, my voice, he/him pronouns, my body so much and want people to call me a girl and use she/her or she/they pronouns. But most of the cases I've heard of trans people they knew or at least showed signs of being trans when they were like less than 10 years old. Also I feel like most people would be questioning their gender for way longer than two months before settling but I feel so suRE AND I CAn't tell whether this is legit. I also most of the time on the internet call myself a girl called Mia because it feels so much better.

I'm so glad that Samantha brought up the point about people confusing the concepts of gender identity and sex. The two are not the same, but so many times I hear people incorrectly using them interchangeably. They'll also do the same thing with gender identity and sexual orientation.
I'm a cis male from the middle east and grew up with a very strict binary gendered world view... I'm glad to say that I've since learned the error of my ways and fully respect and support the trans community. People should he able to identify as whatever they are regardless of what they were born as. And as for trans people being able to use the bathroom that matches what they identify, they definitely should 100%! And the argument that it's a safety thing for little girls from predators just doesn't hold. The only safety issue here it that trans women are more likely to be the victims and all the statistics support this!
When I was younger (like 8 years ago, when i was like 13) I made a statement about the gender binary which honestly defines how I think about people who are like 'there are only 2 genders' : People who say black and white are the only races are generalizing, or they are misinformed. Similarly, people who believe there are only males and females are generalizing and misinformed. As an asian agender person, i feel like people disregard my identities as 'not relevant' when they mean everything to me. you can't do that. please, just accept people for who they say they are.

Sex is the biologial characteristics such as DNA, genitals, and "internal plumbing" that causes doctors to assign people to groups where those traits are found, typically male and female. If someone expresses a mixture of these sex characteristics or an absence of certain characteristics then they are intersex. There are a lot of intersex people who do not know they are intersex if you use the "traditional" definition of sex because there are more chromosonal varieties than the common xy and xx. Gender is the roles, rules, clothes, personalities, that we assign to people based on their sex as well as people's interaction with the world and their bodies. Gender is different in different cultures and gender norms are constantly evolving. Someone can "feel" a certain gender because they have dysphoria (they feel their physical characteristics do not match the way they relate to the world) but the science backs up that trans people often do have the neurological features that are normally specific to cis people of their same gender. If someone doesnt feel comfortable with the way the world relates to them but feels comfortable with the sex characteristics of their body they can also be trans. Its pretty complicated and i'm kinda bad at explaining things but I tried my best with the scientific knowledge that i have researched.

They say that they 100 percent identify with their birth gender but also as a male, which is more along the lines of some sort of non-binary than anything. However, except for the occasional truscum, most people are skeptical of them coming out for their reasoning, not their femininity.

It’s a spectrum, for me there’s 4 sides. Agender, some kind of “all” option, masculine, and feminine. Everyone falls somewhere (like I’m genderfluid, closer to the “all” option.) Non-binary falls into a place between masculine and feminine (the two “binary” genders). Demigirl would be between agender and feminine, ectera.

Yes, especially when the two groups are posed against each other like "two equally valid opinions trying to find middle ground" when one side is INCREDIBLY misinformed. It's so frustrating.
The thing is, the segment got the women thinking about their positions. If there had been an attempt to debunk outright, they would have hardened their minds against the information. This way, they have some nagging doubts about their presumptions and may be more open to information over time. This stopped being an argument about theoretical scary transgenders and is now about real people that they've met and talked with. There are some cracks in their assumptions so light can shine in.
I have a coworker with some scary right-wing positions, but instead of just throwing facts at him, I've asked questions and made him re-examine his positions. He's by no means a liberal now, but he's come around on a few things, like how stupid bathroom bills are.

There aren't even only two sexes, and you don't fully know your chromosomes unless you have them checked. I am a cis woman. Okay, Hi. Multiple scientists have proven that being transgender is scientifically valid. It is not 9th grade biology, it is extremely advanced and commonly hard to understand. Transgender and non-binary people are valid and it has been proven to be scientifically valid by hundreds of gender based studies. Gender is a complex spectrum, it is hard to understand and not everyone will know about every single part of it.

That doesn't mean that women are less transphobic - I mean Jk Rowling, Gun Girl and Gina Carano are prime examples of transphobic women, and the whole TERF movement -, but in online discussions it's mostly men who say that stuff (I assume women keep their transphobia more to themselves or just arent given the same platform to spread their bigotry)

Another one of the things I hate about the whole “tomboys are encouraged to think they might actually be male” is that not only is it usually transphobic, but it also attempts to invalid butch women who are confident in themselves as women and proud of their presentation. People constantly thought I was a boy and questioned me about it when I was younger and they did it out of ignorance and not acceptance. But my response to that was never to question my gender. Instead, my response was to realize those people were ignorant and to insist that I was a girl. I also came to dislike it when people called me a tomboy because I was not a “boy type of girl,” was just a girl as far as I was concerned. It’s quite the opposite of what transphobic people are suggesting: when you know you’re a girl, you are, and when you know your a boy, you are, and your mind will insist on it.

Actually...not precisely, either? Your DNA copies itself and makes proteins (RNA), when making new cells, but down the line, there can be mutations or changes to the way the DNA or RNA is coded. That's why you go through puberty, why your hair or body shape completely changes into adulthood, why you gray. Heck, the environment you live in will effect it. Sometimes changes and mutations will happen regardless. But sure, your DNA is EXACTLY the same, your whole life.
also there is a whole field of epigenetics that discusses the effects environmental factors have on your gene expression.
DNA also changes when you replicate it even if there are no errors, semi-conservative model baby, one old strand stays with the new one!

Gender is not a social construct. Look at David Reimer, who was raised as a female before transitioning back into being a male because living as a girl basically gave him dysphoria. Sex isn’t just chromosomes. Also there are 26 (on average)chromosomes, not 2. Sex characteristics, while they are biologically dependent without medical intervention, on DNA, are not confined to those last 2 chromosomes. What you look like (hair color, skin color, eye color, eye shape, primary sex characteristics, secondary sex characteristics, etc.) isn’t decided on just one set of genes on a single chromosome. Each trait has many different sets of genes on multiple chromosomes. The chromosome argument is bogus, no two ways about it.

It annoys me so much when ppl say that 'there are only 2 genders' bc its literally impossible. There are 36 known sexes so how could there only be 2 genders? Gender is a spectrum and i hope some day it doesn't matter what gender you are it matters what kind of person you are.
I relate so much to the transwoman speaking at 13:07 about not coming out to her dad until she was 33 due to the fear of losing him.
I was only able to come out as non-binary to my dad in August of 2020 at 35. And even though he accepted me, it was so scary.
I'm not convinced I'll ever come out to my parents unless I get to a point where I literally can't hide it anymore. I already know they won't agree or understand, and I don't want to have to be the one with all the answers when I'm still figuring things out. I wish the video went on to say what her father's reaction was, because all I can assume is that it was negative. And that scares me.
I've taken numerous anthropology classes including biological anthropology, and the fact that those girls are using chromosomes as an argument is just... or using biology as an argument is just so like... no chromosomes or any DNA is inherently male or female, we as humans just ASSIGNED them to be like that. We put words to it and gave it that name. Also, the "traditional" girls's comments completely dismiss intersex people and those who either have more or less chromosomes and that affects their biological sex. I'm AMAB and I thought for 14 years I was just a boy. I had (and still have) long hair and so when I was younger people would call me a girl and I would get annoyed. Now, though, literally in the span of two months, I hate my name, my voice, he/him pronouns, my body so much and want people to call me a girl and use she/her or she/they pronouns. But most of the cases I've heard of trans people they knew or at least showed signs of being trans when they were like less than 10 years old. Also I feel like most people would be questioning their gender for way longer than two months before settling but I feel so suRE AND I CAn't tell whether this is legit. I also most of the time on the internet call myself a girl called Mia because it feels so much better.

@@JoeMama-rv9wl As a non-binary bisexual person, being in a locker room with same sex people and finding one person in there attractive, but being uncomfortable being seen by any of them... you forget people who aren't straight. You also stereotype cisgender men to be predators. I was sexually assaulted by a cisgender pedo when I was 5 or 6 in my own home and not in a bathroom. Also, a cisgender man could just walk into the women's restroom and just assault them without makeup or wigs or dresses. I don't feel comfortable in either gendered bathroom. Honestly, you're letting all this fear control you and it's making you sound like a pussy and a dick, dipshit. A simple locking mechanism on the inside of the stall and no space to see in the cracks would really help EVERYONE. Pissing and shitting is a biological reality. Are you really gonna deny trans people their biological reality? If it's such a fucking problem, create a separate bathroom, or shut the fuck up. Offer private stalls in bathrooms and locker rooms so everybody is safe. With locking mechanisms. Teach everybody self defense, carry a legal weapon. Honestly, the whites did this with the blacks by labeling things as colored, but now it's the whole process all over again. Maybe if cis women were taught self defense and cis men were taught how to treat women, this whole argument with trans people wouldn't exist. It's not my problem some cis women don't wanna learn self defense and it's not my problem that some cis men are toxic predators. So, stop blaming trans people for cis people problems.
A good parent will support their kid, regardless of who they love or what they identify as. Unless they're a bigot. It should be harder to come out as conservative than as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Why do so many people think we transition on a whim? I fought it every step of the way.
People who say "no labels" are being completely clueless... there will ALWAYS be labels forced on small children. Most labels are highly traditional, even reactionary. Children have the concept of gawd forced upon them at a young age... is that fair? People have concepts of race, clannishness and nationality forced upon them at a young age... is that positive? "No labels" is right up there with "all lives matter" in the bs department.

I'm so glad that Samantha brought up the point about people confusing the concepts of gender identity and sex. The two are not the same, but so many times I hear people incorrectly using them interchangeably. They'll also do the same thing with gender identity and sexual orientation.
I'm a cis male from the middle east and grew up with a very strict binary gendered world view... I'm glad to say that I've since learned the error of my ways and fully respect and support the trans community. People should he able to identify as whatever they are regardless of what they were born as.
And as for trans people being able to use the bathroom that matches what they identify, they definitely should 100%! And the argument that it's a safety thing for little girls from predators just doesn't hold. The only safety issue here it that trans women are more likely to be the victims and all the statistics support this!

When I was younger (like 8 years ago, when i was like 13) I made a statement about the gender binary which honestly defines how I think about people who are like 'there are only 2 genders' : People who say black and white are the only races are generalizing, or they are misinformed. Similarly, people who believe there are only males and females are generalizing and misinformed.
As an asian agender person, i feel like people disregard my identities as 'not relevant' when they mean everything to me. you can't do that. please, just accept people for who they say they are.
I'm cis and as guilty as alot of people of raising my son according to gender norms but how can you call yourself a parent if you dont spend some time exploring gender with your kid if its bothering them...im learning how to bakugan battle I can learn how to respect his feelings
