"Mid foot strike is better than fore foot strike for shin splints. makes tremendous sense since calf is already overuse.

thats because striking with the heel you dont use your achilles tendon to jump like a kagoroo, instead you use your calve muscles to provide the thrust necessary to go forward. Mid-foot striking is much easier on the calves than heel striking.

Great advice, thank you. Can I ask if, in your experience, shin splints lessen in frequency over time? I have built up to 5K slowly & end up with terrible shin splints any time I’m running, even slowly, for over 30 mins. I already make sure I take short strides (but do definitely land on the balls of my foot, so will work on that!) and get so disappointed to have to start from scratch as the splints can be so painful that I wince walking down steps! I don’t want to be able to run marathons or anything, I’m happy with a 5K but just feel so disappointed each time 😔
