People cannot critically think anymore. To survive in the state of nature you have to be able to critically think. So many humans are dumber than the so-called "animals." I call them the Eloi. I'd be the Time Traveler. So would lots of people. It's an archetype. There is a lot of value to the Eloi. They provide meat, lol. But yes, they are idyllically sweet. You want to protect them.
