We went from tank synergy to tank counter swapping, feelsbadman
Indeed
I miss it
so much pain
Remember when these content creators were pushing the “counterpicking isn’t real” statement into our heads? Sadge
I miss rein zarya, one game in particular on hanamura of all maps with an ana with perfect nanos, me on rein with amazing shatters and a zarya with perfect bubbles, and no mics no less, just natural synergy
It's kind of wild to think about where everything was a year ago how optimistic everyone was and how now it's just another struggling Blizzard IP.
It was back then too, no content for years besides skins, but yeah it sucks how everything has happened but at least we're getting heros and maps consistently
You really convinced yourself overwtach is struggling...
@ubadman1 The numbers don't lie, man. The game has a fraction of the players and buzz it did at launch.
I was never optimistic. 5v5 always sounded bad to me
@@ubadman1
You're really trying to convince yourself that it isn't. Lmfao
I still remember seeing my Tank queue partner in a game against me on ow2 for the first time. I really felt that Obi Wan quote:
"You were my brother Anakin! I loved you!"
It does feel that way indeed 😿
Strange how the inclusion of one character can make the bonds between players feel so complete, not even from a balance perspective. That dva mech zarya grav play was a great example of the fun of tank synergies, especially the bond between you and your fellow tank. You had each other's backs. You both tanked together. Now as a tank you have to stand as the lone warrior, taking all the brunt for your team, and getting none of the credit. You just 'do your job' or you 'feed'. Truly saddening times.
You got it perfect. As a tank you are no longer a part of a team but a resource for your team to use to win.
Fr. I need my tank duo buddy back to absolutely CARRY games again. Its not fun being forced to play 2 characters, do little impact on the game, and still get blamed for losing in the end. Tanks have never been worse
Tank duos were more important at lower ranks than high ranks just because it gave the tanks something to do other than sit there(i know that isnt the right way to tank). I get it was broken in the hands of gms, but the interaction was the fun part of the tank role at most ranks; it was inbuilt teamwork. the teamwork that originally made overwatch more fun than other fps.
It was broken in plat and diamond if the tanks queued together vs randoms
@@JebusChrust thats a matchmaking problem
Dude exactly Overwatch was never just supposed to be an FPS game, it was literally built on breaking away from traditional FPS aspects man :(
@KURENANI The issues with 5v5 are a matchmaking problem either. Bad tanks are being matched against good players and they whine that they get outplayed
Flats: Things are gonna get better
Also Flats: Yeah past me... Things are gonna get better...
This hurts to watch XD
That part of the video hurted my souls dude 😿😭
I miss OW1. You don't realize what you have until it was gone. And you couldn't predict how bad things would get.
When they said ow2 was gonna be 5v5 I said this is gonna be trash immediately
@@nathancasey7712 I wasn't a big fan of 5v5 either especially during all the beta's I got to participate in.
@@KyriousSame, I played about 3 games and went straight back to OW1 6v6.
It's really not that bad. I've played OW 1 since launch and I'm not sad to see it gone. I honestly stopped playing overwatch around a year before OW2, after putting in almost 1000 hours on Lucio alone, with over 100 hours on like 7 other characters. OW 2 brought me back and I'm back to playing daily.
@@astrospect yea but u said Lucio... The guy they didint really change.... Wild that supports love this game but can't figure out why tanks and DPS fucking hate it. shocked 😲
I feel like after losing the tank duo synergy we kinda lost all team synergy. More people want to be able to do their own thing and have more impact and it used to feel like tanks kinda were fighting eachother while dps and supports battled/stayed alive keeping the tanks up. Now it's just kill the tank instantly and focus them and we win. No strategy, just swap to a bastion and orissa when your losing and do the same thing over and over again. At least in ow 1 we had to come up with strategies and plays much more
Precisely this. The old meta felt like a battle between roles whereas now its just everyone group up so we can steamroll the tank
+
Facts
Utterly deliberate game design decision from blizzard
Its because now everyone expects the tank to lead, but then high dive heroes are more beneficial and those people dont coordinate
Ended OW1 annoyed with Orisa, ending OW2 Year 1 still being annoyed with Orisa. The more things change the more they stay the same. RIP OW1.
It's been one year since we lost Duo Tanks. I miss tanks feeling good.
Me too I can’t have fun on tank anymore because the opposing tank just swaps to counter me 😔
The loneliest role in overwatch
I used to be a tank main in OW but since the disrespect the tanks have gotten OW2, I’ve been dmg/sup mainly.
@@DeuceFrmEC. Same but I just dropped the game instead 💀
@@DeuceFrmEC Open queue is the only place I Tank.
@@Spider-Nalgas I’m still barely holding on. Mostly because I convinced my girl to play with me. It’s vs AI but as long as she’s having fun, I’m happy. I just hope something improves so I can justify moving her to qp since she’s easily rolling bots at lethal.
1 is the loneliest number that you'll ever do!
I never believed tank duos were the problem that needed fixing but the type of skills tanks had back then that was the issue. Stuff like Bunker Orisa could have been entirely Adjusted into the style of character she is now instead of assisting in putting up so many walls that you couldn't even understand the terrain of a skirmish.
An extra person on the team led to more interesting synergies and play styles. The application of off and main tanking felt great. One game you're holding it down on rein, the next you're coming in from behind and bopping people out of position with ball and just being a pain, but your team still had someone on the front line.
What happened instead? We lost a ton more team variety due to player numbers, and although tanks were universally 'buffed' to compensate for one less tank, tanks have been arguably the least enjoyable role to play for a very long time in OW2 whilst simultaneously being arguably the least impactful yet simultaneously the most complained about. Every game has somebody raging, yelling Tank Diff, yet half the time, the tank can't even make too much happen unlike before. Heck, half the time, you're the most impactful as a tank to just not die. What thrilling gameplay.
The real solution was the team doing a better job on balancing but we all know that would never happen lmfao
so damn true. they didn't even buff them enough to compensate. say what you will about the meta being "healthier" but tank duoing is more fun imo. plain and simple.
I miss my tank duo buddy
Same man..
Try and remember the ow games with the feeding flank hog. That's my cope
@@ThatGuy-em2yl Just switch Zarya, full charge off no brain hog, roll other team.
@@ThatGuy-em2yli even miss that, if you play around the feeding hog you can easily win games with his distraction, because he wasn't the only tank, if hog does that nowadays it's over😢
Don't cry because it's over, cry because it isn't over
When does it end
Where is my 6v6 double tank and dps doom then
Back when overwatch was a daily game for me … can’t stand what they are doing now days
I used to stream it maining sig/Orisa. Now my camera and mic are collecting dust🫠
Bro fr had periods just playing ow1 daily and having the time of my life
The idea of Junker Queen + Zarya sounds fantastic. I hope they bring it with role queue as some arcade mode
It's dope!
Open Queue is where us OW1 olds can relive our heydays. XD
@@Cheebzsta I remember! Fast PC = gets to pick soldier. That's usually how it went.
rammatra rein also sounds cool af
Zarya ram, ram doom. Jq rein? So many fun combos lost
Queen + Hog just for the interactions of Hog being shy and well mannered
Genuinely some of the most fun content to watch was you and Emongg as a tank duo. It's really sad that we won't ever get to see it again.
God it feels weird seeing Rein do so much more damage. It's still in my muscle memory how good he was and it actually makes me realise how they reduced the amount of tanks and just made his damage potential lower.
it pisses me off so much. tanks feel like paperweights now when you reach a certain rank, and it's so unfun to play.
RIP OW1. The true Game of All Time.
Litterally one of the games ever made
@@mickaeloliver_true but remember 5v5 is better even tho the game is worse and ppl can't figure out why 🤣🤣🤣 the about of copium from the player base and streamers is amazing. I am surprised there is still copium left in the world from this community
@@Flightkid90Yeah for some reason we just can't figure it out even though it's right on front of our faces.
Don’t worry y’all. Blizzard will fix OW2 by releasing brand new heroes you have to buy!
@@Spider-Nalgas I can't wait to give Blizzard more money for the same thing I used to not have to give them any money for! 😂
I wish we could play 6v6 in arcade as a permanent mode but at least you can ask to duo in open que or tripple or even 5 stack tanks if people run tanks only randomly or other ways
Seriously have an arcade 6v6 role queue. Perhaps they're afraid people would like it more.
@@Kyriousi think que times would be insanely long
tank duoing in open queue is pretty fun still surprisingly. especially when assault was back in the arcade rotation, it felt good.
Flats hearing himself saying that OW2 is gonna be a huge improvement is literally like the scene from Interstellar lmao
Zarya-Rein in lower elo was the most fun I’ve ever had in ow.
As a low masters Support in ow2, I’m miserable.
its crazy that overwatch 2 two has only been out for a year and recieves as much hatred as year 6 overwatch 1
I miss the days where me and my homie would hop on tank and we would go ballistic and it was always hanamura that we did best on to for some reason but now a year later I’m the only one of ‘em who still clings to my dying love of overwatch
Back then my boy was dva and I was Orisa. Loved it. Now we flip on it before we queue up.
That video is actually one of my favorites on RUclips. It makes me so nostalgic. I really miss Overwatch 1.
I havent finished this video but it really did have things that reminded me why I originally fell in love with original overwatch and you can still see sparks of why ow was gsme of the year
13:41 as someone who's never actually played OW1 and only watched it, i agree with the "take me back" cries. OW2, at least currently as of season 6 going into 7, the game is only really enjoyable to play in arcade. Comp feels like walking thru hell trying to look for a beverage and quick play feels like comp but less serious
i agree so hard. the game had this certain comradery that it doesn't really have at this point. the worst part is that for some reason i feel the nostalgia for ow1 but i never even got to experience the damn game.
@@defaultdan7923 for me, it's the feeling I get from watching OW1. Two tanks, 2cp, MMR, etc. seems like more fun, even tho they still seem like a pain at times
@@MaxwellMatthewsow1 was great, whenever I played support in a stack I mainly picked lucio and the great part is that I wouldn't get accused of throwing like I do now in ow2. In ow1 speed boosting your whole team to contest the point that was so close to being captured was such an adrenaline rush.
Man it just hurts looking back on earth shatter in overwatch 1 and rembering it used to be something to fear and look out for. Nowadays it just feels like a minor inconvenience. Feels bad.
It's weird how playing tank felt more impactful in OW1 when you were only 1 of 2 tanks and the enemy team theoretically had more heroes that could stop you.
I never watched this video back in the day but especially looking back now, I really miss playing with my old duos. That final picture hits too hard, and the pokemon music god especially that hoenn ending ost... take me back
No matter what they add to ow2, I'll always miss the original. A year feels like enough time to give before moving on.
I like how this video starts off light hearted and funny then the ending was sad. Wonderful stuff
One year ago Tank Duos died…
…and the fun died alongside it.
6v6 was better than 5v5, I used to think otherwise, but now I realise the system we have now isn't sustainable and cannot be balanced as effectively.
It can be balanced "easier" tho. Now that there is only one tank on the team, they can buff both supports and DPS however they feel like and only one player would feel useless.
It's very lazy approach, and 5v5 was just a bandage fix that only delayed the inevitable rework of most heroes, but hey, at least we've got.... uhh...
Three short story missions? I guess?
Feels like we're in a constant mode
Lose lose situation even with our own emotions like this time last year we were so filled with doom that when overwatch 2 was about to come out we were so sure that this time last year there'd be nothing to miss cause we all thought the experience will be so much better there's no reason to look back outside of nostalgia but here we are and we look back wondering if maybe those days were better cause we still had hope but were still in a terrible situation. All I can say is I hope next year we get something new to grip us both for the game and it's competitiveness.
Matches should be 10v10s, where we double the player count for each role
I miss watching the duo tank of flats and emongg that synergy and energy was cathartic.
They should make a 6v6 mode for arcade just to see how it would work would be interesting at least
I think if they do that everyone will play it, and they know that 😂
@@raffyarceus99 major X to doubt on that one
It feels strange. I used to be a dva player. I loved playing the character while being able to support my second tank, or saving the healers from something that wouldn’t kill them nowadays. I was a console plat tank player back then.
Now, no matter what I do, I just don’t feel confident in being the one role anymore. I moved to PC, simultaneously rebranding to Kitsune before Kiriko came out (now I main her, big surprise) while moving into a support main. Why be the tank, when you can heal your tank and let them have a good time?
Damn I made it to the end and I am tearing up rn. Can’t believe I have been playing this game since 2016 and it’s changed so much. I still love it but the nostalgia is very intense.
Tank duo was my favorite part of overwatch I loved being a tank main now I just hate playing tank. Young flats so full of hope and dreams of a brighter future that would never come to be.
I believe 6v6 should still be playable in quick play, having the option to play 6v6 or 5v5 is way better than only being able to play 1 or the other
this would only expose how broken 5v5 is, and Blizzard doesn't want that
Open q should be 6v6
it would split queues too heavily.
we're already dividing queues between comp, qp, and the small portion of arcade, then the subcategory of open queue in both qp and comp.
however, 6v6 with role queue and open queue as a rotating arcade mode? count me in.
@@Daddix0 Nah it'd unite all the roles lmao everyone would realize how fun it is
@Daddix0 they could make 6v6 and 5v5 filters like role queue, whoever is host can select 1 or both
The consensus of losing 1 tank was this, The Tank players were so few that it took very long to find 2 to fill every game (your video both proves and disproves this). And that it was easier to balance the game with 5v5, yeah you guys have been doing a great job guys...yeah
Ever since brig was introduce, there has been so much healing creep and it carried over to OW2. To make it worse, OW2 support has immortality creep and mobility creep on top of that healing creep. Also, I wish they split Ana's primary to have different damage and healing value, so that they can reduce her healing while retaining her damage potential.
Support should not heal more than constant 55hps and up to 65hps if there are some downtime for window of opportunity for any kills. These days, support healing goes as high as 120hps, which is ridiculous.
wow that looks way more fun than any of my matches as tank these days
Riddle me this! If tanks can't make a difference, how come it's always a tank diff in all chat?
He actually explained in detail 💀
the 5v5 was truly nothing than a band aid over a shotgun sized hole
Game sucks now
5v5 dumbs down the game
- Tank is Awful to play Solo
- Supps have to be made OP or they cant defend themselves without an Off-Tank (Supports now have often better dueling than some DPS, they deal similar damage but have Heals/Invuls/TPs/CCs etc.)
- Snipers are more oppressive than ever before
- Off-Tanks feel weird/shit to play as Solo Tanks and just dont fit into 5v5
- "Teamfights" often dont exist, its just a deathmatch, theres no structure in fights
No SR Ranked, its not fun to grind ranked anymore, this 5W/15L bullshit sucks
No Account Levels to grind a cool border or farm free rewards
Overall the experience just got worse, the Competitive Player lost a lot of what made OW so special in the first place, because the game got dumbed down a lot
And the Casual lost lots of free rewards and the incentive to play got lower (They even removed Weekly Arcade Rewards)
Cant believe i spent 2 years being excited for this game, id take a dead OW1 that atleast was fun to play over this.
It's so rough watching this and missing being able to duo queue any role and vibe with your mates.
I miss Orisa bongo and pull.
FeelsStrongMan Clap
"CEASE YOUR RESISTANCE" ...😭♥️
I'm so sad I missed the opportunity to commit hog and ball torture on the entire lobby
This whole video is: “BACK IN MY DAY….”
and I love it
I still remember my tank duo I used to play with ever since 5v5 they have never played again. The vid still hits hard even a year later, feelsbadman
Not the sad persona 5 music😢😢
fr
I actually miss having to reload for Orisa. I was so used to reloading that I actively forget that her gun now overheats when you use it too much and that I instinctively hit my reload button (I play on the switch, but the button it 'Y') for Orisa, even though she has infinite bullets now.
Okay yes, the shatters and pins are getting kills but I will say pin cancel is literally one of the best and most fun things they did to Rein
True, but they could have done that in ow1 no problem
Could've just added current pin to old reinhardt. It's not like pin is good in either game.
Aaa the good ol dayz of Ow tank duo ❤️🔥 Was there for it all the way.. so much fun and joy from those videos. 💫
came back to this at the start of season 8. It still hurts.
Alleycat really fits this sadden time of OW1 being gone forever.
I genuinely miss the tank combos now it feels like tanks are baby sitting ngl
watching flats/emong duos on tank was some of my favorite content to watch. Damn shame that we lost this
Perhaps it could help if the tanks passive of knockback resistance included cc resistance of maybe 15% - 30% so that they feel tankier again, without having to change each heroes abilities. If it was for every tank it would be a nice refocusing of the group dynamic. Tanks would be able to withstand more of the fire & abilities that now are their sole responsibility
Problem with tanks being reduced is it was the quick fix. It wasnt the best fix. The best fix would habe been to add more tanks to the game without barriers and have it so when two tanks with barriers are in game barrier health is reduced 40%. The y did this with hp in mystery heroes. Why didnt they do this with barriers and keep it 6v6?
Oh and add in that tanks with good shields can't have other ways to sustain themselves. No grasp for sigma and no foritfy for orisa. Give them something else.
Because it sounds more like a new game to say 5v5. Thats about it
Yeah, but how would this even work though? What if you’re still alive as a tank with a shield , then mid fight your teammate dies then they switch to a tank with a sheild, so your telling me mid fight my shield would’ve been reduced by 40%? Or in the senecio that I mentioned does, it not reduce until you die? If that’s the case what if you can’t kill that think with the bigger shield? Or again in the same senecio where the teammate switches does the barrier have a countdown until the reduced sheild comes, letting the player know when the barrier is reduced? Even then, how would your teammates know? This, it comment dosent seem like the solution. It just seems like you thought about what might be a good idea without really truly thinking it through, I don’t think this is the situation at all.
@@vlinks2301 A lot of what you said isn't that tough to actually figure out though.
- Pick two shield tanks at start then reduced barrier.
- If your tank partner swaps to shield tank while you are still alive then they come out reduced shield but yours remains the same til you die.
- If its possible to exploit it then you can tinker with it to change after it hits max health then changes to reduced maximum a few moments later
- Adding a timer so the tank knows when its going to happen doesnt sound like a tough implementation.
- Why would your entire team need to know that your barrier max life is about to change?
- If they do need to know to you then voice lines solve that rather well and can add fun little dynamics between shield tanks.Reinhardt calling out sigma shield for being something to put far away when he prefers to be up close.
Sounds like to me you just threw out a bunch of things in an effort to poke holes without thinking about any solutions at all then complained.
@@aerostrafe1075Shields were not the problem, it was the abilities behind the shields (fortify, grasp, lamp).
Man, I cried when I watched the end of the original video. Retro really did a good job on that ending.
6v6 just looks so chaotic compared to 5v5 when looking back at it. I hope they can make it a mode in the arcade or at-least an event just for nostalgia points.
Overwatch 1 may have developed some of the crazy comps that no one cared to play against. But it was the synergy and teamwork that made it more fun to play. Now, supports are doing as much, if not, more damage than DPS. And the lone tank is struggling for survival in a faster paced environment.
Flats you can't hit me with alleycat it always hits in the feels
Him having the persona depression song in the background made me laugh
5:34 I have a Rein account where I pin as much as possible for the silliness of it. I thought I was the one to create this strat because I started doing it and it works very frequently. I had no idea Flats was the first but it makes sense.
Between OG Orisa and the actually useful earthshatters, this video really makes me feel the nostalgia
While it may not have been the most popular format I personally enjoyed 2 tanks way more than 1
I remember my last game in ow1 was on volskaya and I was 6 stacking with the looking for group thing. Man the good ol days. I love ow2 but there's so many things I miss like my diamond border and rank on the icon.
Be me, see new flats video, gets happy. After watching video, well great now I’m depressed.
I started with OW2 and I just wish i could play with 6 friends instead of 5 lol
5 instead of 4* cuz you have to be in the team too x-x
I remember my duo's with Zarya players as a Rein main on Kings. Challenging the enemy team to swap from Orisa or Hog to Rein and Zarya also. Had some real good battles. Good times man..........good times. FeelsStrongMan
The "Rein v Rein?" and "MTD" in chat were always fun and hilarious. 😂
I’ve always hated the idea of counter swapping I think removes player skill from the game. Like you are necessarily better you’re just picking the character that’s supposed to beat their character. We went from that happen once in while in OW1 to that being the only way to play OW2 if you care about wining.
also I wanna say that when OW2 announced that it was going to 5v5 we were all under the assumption that every single character got a full rework over the last 3 year prior, Turns out that wasn't the case and only like 2 characters got reworks. So we got baited pretty hard
I have to admit some of these moments nearly made me cry fr. 6v6 was good in its own right and so is 5v5( to an extent) but IMO I would love to see 6V6 make a return. But that’s asking for too much now…
Crazy how the exact same hanger is in the same spot a year later
12:20 crazy how when ow2 was originally announced it was literally just supposed to be a free sequel focused heavily on PVE with ow1 still being a game that you could play for multiplayer. Sad to see that its merged and in the end came to be a worse game with 0 actual PVE. Sure we get new heros and frequent updates now. But tbh id rather go back to the days when we only got small changes for the last 2 years. Those last 2 years of ow1 were way more fun then all of Ow2 atm.
I held it together but the “Fin” picture with the undertale music BROKE ME. I miss my tank duo so much😭😭😭
I miss chatting with strangers in the main menu. Sometimes I'd log in to ask dumbass questions and end up making friends through it.
I remember the last game of OW1 the whole lobby just sat on point and emoting
Hopefully with celebrating one year of OW2 they will have the updated line up
Tank duos were the most fun I've ever had in a video game. King's Row with my Rein friend JDogg while I was Zarya was literally the most amazing time. RIP Overwatch 1.
og orisia & hog was my favorite tank combo, i miss it so much lmao
1 year ago today was the last time flats got a kill with shatter 😢
took a sip right before that shatter on the high noon. Almost spat out my coffee on my keyboard lol
1 year ago I was pretty sad loosing one of my fave duos on Overwatch Emong and Flats but also super excited for Overwatch 2 coming out and making the game feel different and more balanced and fun again, a year on I do still enjoy the game, but so much feels wrong with it and I have gone from only playing competative to only only playing quickplay now, and knowing 70%+ of the friends I used to play with on Overwatch 1 have gradually left due to being fed up with the ballance issues just makes me sad... I remember mentioning to them that this next year for overwatch is going to be insane and it will finally be treated like one of the great FPS shooters it can be, i was so wrong :(
I MISS THIS SO MUCHHHHHH, I WANT IT BACKKKKKKK
That rein race was foreshadowing what was to happen to reinhardt
"I've mellowed out in my years." My brother in Christ, it's been 1 year lol.
So much pain. God how i miss this
I still can't believe it's been a year.
When synergy turned into rock paper scissors 😂😂😂 legit i swap to paper when i seen rock so it such a good game.😂
Solved some problems but created so many more in its place even when my tank was bad I could go play qp but now it's not even worth playing an competitive player that swaps and that plays for there stupid challenges that encourage try Harding rather then just fun. I just leave and que DPS legit flats stop fence riding
ow2 just sucks in comparison.
I used to love flats and emong still do but it's like watching your favorite streamer get mad and fail at something it's funny for awhile but after a while you just want them to have fun and fool around and this game ain't that not anymore. Crazy to me they wanted to make this game more competitive while also killing the competitive scene fucking nuts.
Maybe part of the reason we are overall seeing more buffs across the board, is they are raising the power level of characters so they can buff rein (and other B-C rank tanks) to be fun? If that makes sense?
man I almost choke when the guy said "you still have the same laugh"
Honestly I started ik ow2 and I want this so bad I want wut they had the thought of such synergy would be so much fun
Next year you should watch this video watching your old video , 3 flats on screen at the same time lol
Tank continues to be the insta-queue role.
I literally cant believe its been a year already.
