We often think of the Mandalorians as an aggressive species with no equal on the battlefield, but a closer look at their history shows us a much different picture. The Mandalorians have remained refugees and a diaspora for most of their history, and the only thing that has survived from their culture is the the Beskar'gram that they wear. The fact that the most important cultural item for the Mandalorians is a piece of armor and not a weapon says quite a lot about who they are as a people.

Armor and culture are intertwined for mandalorians, it’s like the Samurai who kept suits of armor through multiple generations.
While true, there were no "Mandalorian" before Super Commando movement of 19 BBY. What was basically a standardized codex for the Mandalorian Bountyhunter brand. What was basically completely made up. Death Watch movement was bunch of revisionist weirdos wanting to restore old traditions (from movies). It is basically like modern Japanese declaring Shogunate and starting using Ninjas armed in Katana. Pre-War Mandalorians were mostly normal people, when many Death Watch members weren't even real Mandos (look Boba Fet).

My MAJOR issue with the Mandalorians was that when they took their helmets off they were all human. I know WHY Disney did so - we are all actually human.... but in the Star Wars Universe, that isn't the case. That there wasn't a single nonhuman revealed when everyone removed their helmets was a major flavor fail. The whole point to the armor was supposed to be that as adopted foundlings, your descendant didn't need to be human... much like Grogu.

But a reallity inherent of Star Wars... is that the galaxy is extremelly racist! Humans have colonized the Stars; andnobody clearlly states it... but the Republic is iherentlly human. In old lore, the Emperor was said to be activelly human supremacist. Stormtropers where human for that reason. Even in Naboo; a 'good planet'; its obvious that he human colonizers where considered by the Senate the 'official goverment'; and the gungan; the original intelligent species of the planet; where second class citizens... yes; Amidala fougth against this; but as I said; this is an exception. It has been probably thousandsof years of human hegemony. Only in the Outer Rym; where the Senate/Empire/Coruscant and humanitys grasp is looser, wereally see non-humans been prominent. Yeah sure, in Coruscant we can see aliens of every part of the galaxy... but usually in the Senate, as representatives of their home planets witch where not colonized by humans. Eg: the Mon Cala are representatives from Mon Calamari; witch is noticeably reclusive. Also; lots of the CGI where noticeable aliens; while most of the senators and high representatives of the Republic are human... yeah; the Jedi are mutch more equallitatian... but again; they are thejedi; they are anexception.
What I mean is that while aliens are not trully misstreated or racially marginized per se... there is clear tracesthat they once where. Humanitty reached the power of the galaxy some time ago... and now they are sharing it. But it's not there yet. Humans are born and belong in allmost if not any planet in the galaxy...but aliens have distincitve home worlds, and it's rare to see an allien to clame to belong to a culture other than the one of his ancestors. So, in a culture as dogmatic as the Mandalorian; evenif it is possible for an outsider to become a Mandalorian... is not crazy to assume that most mandalorians choose to adopt foundlings from their own species. Bearin mind, than the Mandalorians from Bo Katan's group; even saw the members of Mando's Covert as 'not entirelly manalorian'; cause they never lived in Mandalore... and they resented Boba Fett for ashaming the concept of foundling...
...so yeah; I think they are clear evidences that while foundlings can be from any species; Mandalorians do not have a habit of recruiting a lot from outside of their home planet... and if they do; they tend to pick humans.
Sabine reforged her own armour as a teenager and says it’s over 500 years old. She went to an Imperial academy where that wouldn’t be taught. So either her Mother Ursa or her father Alrich taught her the craft… and The Armorer is interesting, because she sounds almost identical to Ursa Wren, Sabine’s mother. Even if Bo-Katan did recognize her, and it turns out she is Ursa Wren, then she could just be respecting her old friends privacy.
Sabine is also apparently the designer behind a hyper lethal weapon that can wipe out any Mandalorian wearing even a hint of Beskar, all while she was a child. Rebels is not necessarily the most well thought out show, nor is it consistent enough to be a reliable source

@@Rabidsageand he was one of the most force sensitive individuals around, so much so that the Jedi council reluctantly let him in, and while it wasn’t a huge difference, he was nine. Nine and all his experiences came from working with droids consistently and tinkering with pod racer engines. And not once did he somehow develop a genocidal weapon on a whim.
@@OutspokenSeeker being force sensitive has nothing to do with having the knowledge to build advanced technology at a young age . Anakin was able to do all that as a slave on a junkyard planet. It's totally reasonable Sabine could do just as much or more at a young age with the better education and over all wealth of resources the mandalorians had.
@@OutspokenSeeker if the Jedi never came around you really think he wouldn't use tech to kill the slavers? The only reason he didn't was because the force was more efficient. Literally the whole point of the phantom menace is Qui Gon jinn fully understanding Anakins potential without guidance would've ended up being used for war similar to Sabines weapon creation.
Her weapon also only specifically killed mandalorians, when she's growing up would be around the civil wars and stuff with maul. It's not just randomly building a weapon against her own for no reason.
The Helmets of the Mandalorians are still cool and pure unadulterated badass.

@@homer6292 In the end, stormtrooper helmets were the direct successors to clone trooper buckets. And these were direct heirs to Mando helmets. Mando helmets contain in-universe a load of high-tech gadgets and are sealed against space, complete with air supply.

@@homer6292 So you're asking a director to order a bunch of stuff put in a helmet that has no real-world function and can harm the actor? Not happening. Also note there's nothing visible in the ST helmets either, so it's the same there.

@@homer6292 Those are just shapes. Within universe they are ways to make the helmets easy to make and maintain. Mandos don't need that, and the bits are all internal.

What a brilliant and educated take on culture. This is why this channel is so good, it’s so cerebral. Alan here is confronting what folks perceive to be true with what actually caused success in the Mandalorian culture, with some great real world counterparts.
I like how fiction can be assessed to learn more about ourselves & our world.
I could only imagine what would’ve happened if the dark saber was a template to the mandolorians to make their own sabers to fight Jedi or sith. There’s even a crystal that was used to make energy shields, found by qui go, It could be used for a saber, but it’s weaker. However, if mandos found and utilized these crystals to make their own lightsabers using more crystals and beskar parts, modeled after the dark saber design (sharpened emitter), they’d have one weapon in their arsenal that brings them fame, a countermeasure of swordsmanship with force wielding combatants and honors vislas memory throughout mandolor.
Grogu can show them the way.

Culture is definitely like social technology, people have adapted their social structures in order to survive for a long time. Also thinking about culture in star wars always makes me wonder about aliens and if they'd realistically have anything that we would even recognize as culture

Thing is… Durge wore original mandalorian armor….
It doesn't even have to be Beskar. If they don't have the resources (material, monetary or influence) they still make armor, it might be durasteel or even something lesser, it might not be loaded with tech or gadgets. No matter where they are or the circumstances they are in they make, maintain, and most importantly train to fight with that armor.

I am a Mandalorian, what I do is salvage work. As for the Dark Saber if you have one, the switch would be a "dead mans switch" holding the switch would not be done with your thumb that is a bad grip, next invert the hilt cross guard fits your hand shape 'hold' down the switch with middle or index finger, better grip, now my question is if the 'dark saber' is the shoto where is the 'main' hand saber?

I find it funny that our host did better explaining what a culture is, then any other explanation, culture was always something I didn't truly understand, but with this I think I get more now still confuses me for the most part but I feel like I understand it better.

@@thekaxmax maybe so, think of like really young kid, you can tell them 1 + 1 = 2 and even though it is logical doesn't mean they understand it just that it does cause it does, not the why it equals 2. I understand the logic of culture, to me it is cause it is, not why or any true understanding of it.

I like how you go into deep dive analyses of fictional cultures and point out things that people in the real world should consider about the way we live. Especially with Star Wars, because I'm pretty sure the people in charge of the official cannon don't bother about anything beyond what will make for a flashy and commercially successful show/movie/game/toy which results in some pretty messed up characters and cultures. I'd love to see you tackle some more IPs the same way.
They were supposed to be incredibly well trained warriors. In the EU series “Legacy of the Jedi” you get a glimpse of mando society in which adoptive children are carrying blaster pistols at ages as young as 4 daily, the armour came later and they needed to pass their trials at 13.
P.S. if you want a bit of a glimpse of mando society I suggest “Boba Fett, a practical man” and “Legacy of the Jedi “

I agree that the armor is very important, but you only briefly mentioned the foundlings. "The foundlings are the future" says the armorer, and scraps of bescar are saved so as to outfit the foundlings. This practice of bringing in rescued children has some very important consequences. For one thing, you have people who owe their very lives to this practice, and who therefor grow up very devoted to the culture who saved them, And keep looking for children that need rescue. I think the second important aspect of the foundling culture is that is brings fresh genetic material into a population base that sees a lot of loss.. Without the foundlings, they could easily become very inbreed.
- A thing I want to know - what are the naming rules? In watching both the clone wars and the rebels animated series, you seem to get your house from one parent and your clan from the other.... Sabine, clan Wren, house Vizsla, if I remember correctly. Grogu becomes adopted and becomes Din Grogu. I've been trying to figure this out for a while.
Could just be the naming convention of the world Djarin was from to have family name first. The one thing he held on to from before he was a foundling, that and the trauma.

Hey Alan I know what you're saying about the mandalorians not having their own key weapons but back in knights of the Old Republic one & two, in game they had weapons specifically listed as mandalorian such as the mandalorian shredder mandalorian assault rifle mandalorian blaster just to name a few which you consider those Canon or legend or just part of the video game and not worthy of counting those???
Those are merely weapons of Mandalorian manufacture, not some iconic cultural weapons.

They existed, but they weren't the only weapons they used.
When I hear the word "Mandalorian", I envision a warrior who will do anything to survive. Unlike the Jedi and the Protoss, who have their codes and stick to them, or Halo's Covenant and the Warhammer 40K Space Marines who have their superstitions, the Mandalorians that I grew up with have a very pragmatic, Roman/Prussian mentality where they will do anything and everything to gain an advantage in battle, even if it means taking off the beskar armor and walking around incognito. They were, to me, the first pragmatic warrior race that I saw which eschewed all unnecessary restrictions and sought to win by any means necessary. A threat like the Duchess back in Rebels, they would barely flinch at. They'd just stealth-kill a bunch of Stormtroopers, steal their armor, sneak onboard Tiber Saxon's Star Destroyer, then plant some detonation charges on the device or sabotage the Star Destroyer that it was stored at. They wouldn't hold it against Sabine or cry a river over it being made to kill Mandalorians, because a Mandalorian's beskar'gam is merely a tool-one that they can discard and live without if it becomes a liability instead of a strength.
They also tend to honor their foes who were worthy, especially those who beat them in combat. We see this with Canderous and Revan's relationship, built from the fact that Revan and Meetra Surik defeated Canderous' people in battle. Canderous' Mandalorians respected the Jedi because the Jedi proved themselves to be the better warriors, they didn't cry rivers of salt and tears over the Jedi beating them in Malachor V. For a while, I thought that was the reason Jango hung out with Count Dooku, because the latter defeated the former's Mandalorian army at Galidraan, before I found out that canon-wise, he only served Dooku for the money.
Hence why I really didn't like the Karen Traviss Mandalorians, because they whine like babies over the Jedi defeating them in Galidraan instead of taking the L with some dignity and trying to figure out how to be better so that won't happen again, like how Mandalore the Indomitable tried to figure out how the Brotherhood of the Sith "lost" on Coruscant and tried to correct it. The Traviss Mandos are an embarrassment to their KOTOR counterparts, who embodied the warrior code and who would be right at home with Otto Von Bismarck, Sun Tzu, Niccolo Machiavelli, and other pragmatic, but effective thinkers in history.
It's also why I'm just OK with the current iteration of the Mandalorians; they're not bad, but they're not the best. They're way too focused on the wrong things, which led to their demise. They're too attached to their armor and their homeworld, they make one miscalculation after another, (staying on Mandalore after overthrowing Clan Saxon was a mistake; they should've gone with the Rebel fleet and evacuated the planet) and their culture is too primitive and single-minded compared to their KOTOR counterparts, especially when you factor in the Darksaber and the Children of the Watch. They also have no greater goal for the galaxy, whereas the Neo-Crusader Mandalorians back in KOTOR actually sought to centralize the galaxy and create a prosperous society through the force of arms, which is something that a little-known senator from Naboo eventually does..........

To be honest, I don't like that mandalorian smith. She always seemed like a cult leader than actual mandalorian, and that was mentioned in the second season of the Mandalorian, but was never expanded on.
@@homer6292 and that moment when she said beskar spear can penetrate mandalorian armor puts her knowledge in question. It's just very durable pointy stick, no human has the strength it would take to pierce beskar with that thing.
@@polishscribe674 Heavy Mandalorian armor can be powered, like Moff Gideon's armor was. In fact, that is a version of armor that was used in the past by Mandalorians, so no, a beskar spear is a serious threat to beskar armor as the powered armor tech is out there in the Star Wars galaxy and anyone can make it. Then there are cybernetic limbs and battle droids, so consider that too.
@@KnightsWithoutATable The powered armor can be used to penetrate beskar with pretty much anything. Heck, even without that armor you can just smack them in the helmet with random heavy object and they're pretty much knocked out for the rest of the battle.
@polishscribe674 Not entirely. You have to get a clean head shot, which isn't as easy as it sounds. A shot to the chest is easier, but that is just going to push them around. Using a softer metal to piece plate armor doesn't work all that great.

Ehhh you could definitely argue that and would probably get most people to agree. But that’s because we haven’t had to deal with the mandalorians. Going over their history and their reputation around the galaxy there’d likely still be some but much fewer sympathizers. With a long *LONG* history of violent action against the galaxy as soon as they grew enough power and resources. It’s not exactly a stretch to see why the galaxy wasn’t exactly cheerful to see the Mandos doing so well.

It would be Sidious’ than, he beat Maul before Ahsoka did. And Maul actually used the Darksaber in that fight. The whole rule goes out the window when the people who don’t care about the Darksaber or ruling Mandalore get involved with it.
No. The last rightful inheritor is still Maul because Sidious abandoned the blade and Ahsoka never claimed it. As for Sabine Ren she just found it

Even assuming the plates aren't pierced, each round carries as much energy as a small grenade - and that's with plain old ball ammunition. We haven't even gotten into the real fun stuff like HEAP or Raufoss.

Why the Jedi went along with the ethnocide that is the Mandalorian Excision? Why can't they see that what the Republic is about to do to the Mandalorians actually go against everything they stood for?
And if the Mandalorians developed this ideology similar to the Mongols that only the ones of the Chinggisid lineages can become the Khan and in case of the Muslims, only the members of the Quraysh tribe, the descendants of Prophet Muhammad in particular, can have access to the office of the Caliph, the highest position of leadership in Islam, will the Mandalorians have the better political system? The best part here is the loophole, of course. For example, if someone outside of the Clan Vizla cannot ruled. The way to fix this is to marry into Clan Vizla, claim to be spiritual descendant of one of the great Mandalorians in the past or the Protector of the Clan Vizla and then venture out to make some good achievements to gain support of the peoples. I mean, this is what Emir Timur did when he was alive. he proclaimed to be Chinggis Khan's son-in-law, spiritual descendant of Ali, marrying the daughter of the ruling Chagatai Khan at the time and proclaim his intention to revive the Mongol Empire to legitimize his conquests.
The republic was trying to demilitarize around the galaxy but the mandos At the time still maintained huge hosts of warships and mandalorian warriors.

@@theliato3809 And this is why the Ruusan Reformation is a bad idea. What the Republic should do is establish the system similar to the theme system used by the Roman Empire after they lost Syria and the rest of North Africa to the Arabs. The different here is that the military governors of their own domains can independently organized their own armies and keep their equipment up to date all the times because they will have their own plots of lands for the purpose of growing crops to supply their own troops and even possibly to make weapons for their own local armies. Of course, this means the soldiers' pay will be reduced but in monetary form but they will have accessed for free foods, weapons and equipment they needed instead. So if this is applied to the Republic military in the aftermath of the New Sith Wars, it will be for the better as a way of combating the pirates and possibly, the Mandalorians.
Also, the Republic committed ethnocide against the Mandalorians here! It is awful for them to live without their history and culture! Plus, this also shown that the Republic has no respected for the Mandalorians whatsoever despite the fact that they are supposed to! So yeah, they became just like how Darth Traya said in the end before she died.
@@lerneanlion A form of the Theme System is what the republic did with planetary defense forces. They'd be local militaries able to handle things to their areas using the economic resources and logistics they have available to respond to forces as needed isntead of deploying the Grand Army and Navy of the republic en mass.
As for why the Republic and Mandalorians butt heads so much.
It's because they're both rival civilizations for how the galaxy's concept of society should be. It goes back to the Taung and the Zhell who fought for Coruscant ages ago.
If I could make a comparrison. The Galactic Republic vs the Mandalorians is like the New California Republic Vs Ceasars Imperium. Only the Mandos arent as nuts as Ceasar.
@@theliato3809 If that is the case, then it makes committing ethnocide against the Mandalorians even the bigger mistake. The Republic needed a rival civilization in order for the militaries of each theme to keep going. The point is that even if the Republic and the Mandalorians are at peace with one another, there will always be tensions at the frontiers. And at the frontiers, raids by both sides will be the norm. This is something that even both the Roman Empire based in Constantinople and the Abbasid Caliphate acknowledged in our world. The governments of the Empire and the Caliphate know that are at peace with one another but that does not mean the local military governors at the frontiers of both sides won't engaged in raids against each other. And the Basileus in Constantinople and the Caliph in Baghdad are completely fine with this.
So imagined this, both the governments of both Republic and the Mandalorians are at peace with each other but they also allowed their own troops stationed at the frontiers to launch raids and counter-raids against each other annually as a form of ritual and symbolism. Plus, the Jedi will also be not too much attached to the Senate as well because many of them will be preferred to be at the frontiers between the Republic and the Mandalorian spaces to help the Republic troops and citizens there.
In my view, launching raids against each other sounds like the better option that ethnocide.

I think the big influence on my image of Mandalorians may be more rounded, because fanfic writers try to make something coherent in a mix of Legends and current canon (Clone Wars/Disney).
Like, what is the common view right now in fanfic portrays Jaster Mereel's True Mandalorians as a third faction in the political troubles in Mandalorian society, and as being the Moderate faction out of the three. Death Watch are extremist terrorists who aspire to be galactic conquerors, the New Mandalorians are pacifist cultural genociders trying to destroy Mandalorian culture because it is "violent", so fanfic says Jaster's Supercommando Codex is a midpoint of being train fighters who do mercenary and bounty-hunting work, but are not trying to conquer.
I feel like "The Mandalorian" has done a great thing by giving the culture a softer side, with "Children are the Future (This is The Way)". As a video i watched ages ago about the problems of more conservative Islamic culture said, any society has to have its positive sides, and there has to be balances that make the harsher parts worth living by.
The Resol'nare is a Legends concept used universally in fic, as it gives that foundation to make Mandalorians sound well-rounded. Two of the tenants in it is protecting one's people and "children are the future". That is the upside, because protecting family, community and children (and raising children as Mandalorians) allows a vast interpretation of a lot of community and culture that is conducted in doing those things.

The people of Mandalor and the Dark Saber are "cursed" or "condemned" to endure misfortune and suffering as long at the sword is pursued or symbol embraced. The armor is the other side of the coin. It protects the people from dying off from embracing the curse. In other words, the each Mandalorian will have a lifetime of pain & suffering. You know, seeing the arguments between Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comic Fans and STH IDW Comic Fans has made me think about this Canon vs Legends Debate. Fans of the old versions such as Archie and Legends complaining about the modern creators being unfaithful to the story and saying that the fans of the new stuff are just blind followers while those new stuff fans for things like IDW and Disney Canon fans view the old fans as being immature and just hating changes.
The old Vs new argument really comes off as stupid. I’m of course guilty of this given the long rants I do against RUclipsr Geetsly whenever he lumps Canon stuff into the Legends universe. Even if I argue that the two universes are clearly separate, it’s basically a pro-Canon rant against a Legends video even if there are real differences such as how the clones act in both universes. It’s exhausting and comes off as a pointless argument about a piece of fiction. I love Star Wars, Sonic, and a lot of other fiction, but I don’t want to argue with people online about which version of a franchise is great and stuff like that. I just want to enjoy the entertainment. Even if I have a bias to one side or am just clearly with one team, I don’t want to be on the frontlines.
If I come off as a coward, sorry. That’s probably ironic since the stuff I like to watch is as about hero’s standing up to evil. But I’m not that much of a fan. I’m not even sure what to call fans like that. The old fans label themselves as “True Fans”, but I’m hesitant about labeling them as toxic fans even if they go around on the internet saying people shouldn’t be watching the new stuff. And I’m not sure if most new stuff fans that argue back are just people who are trying to protect the things they like or are the blind fanatics the old fans see them as.
It’s even got me reading arguments from both sides in different ways. When it comes to old fans, I basically go through their argument seeing if they add something like SJW or Woke because that’s the type of words that bigots use. But even if I do find them, I’m hesitant to label them as just being bigots because there are plenty of people who have just as much of an intense hatred of the new stuff without resorting to such terms. And thus when I read the arguments of fans of the new stuff, I basically feel like telling them to quiet down even if I agree with them and even if they don’t label old fans as being immature because I feel like just by stating their viewpoints, they’re rocking the boat. I want to complain when an old fan says that the new stuff isn’t bad, but actually the worst like it’s an insult to the old stuff, but I feel like they would respond by saying that I’m blind or not a true fan. I honestly don’t think most of the stuff I watch is extremely great, but more of good or nice or enjoyable. Now, this is partly because of view fiction as entertainment first, and being impactful such as with serious themes second.
Have fandoms really come to this where you’re either an old fan who fanatically hates the new stuff or a new fan who fanatically sees old fans as immature?

The reason pure beskargam was so rare was because after the excizes, the republic siezed it all(at least from the battlefield), and the mandalorians realised it really wasn't worth the effort to make whole suits of beskar for the shiggles. They would add it to everything they exported, i think their was a bounty hunter that had a little medallion made out of beskar from a friend, who wasn't even mandolorian. Yeah, I personally question if the Mandalorians should return. I mean, what exactly do they do in peacetime? Sure, I can see them farming and living normal lives while training the next generation to be warriors, but is such a warrior culture really sustainable? If Mandalorians don’t keep getting involved in wars, it sounds like their culture would fade away until it was only reserved for the military.
I’m sorry, but ever since I watched Templin Institute’s video on warrior societies, it just doesn’t seem like they work or that there would even be a point to them. I mean, if there is a long period of peace, it seems like the warrior skills of Mandalorians would fade over time and being a warrior would be more like a thing on the side while a Mandalorian works a regular job. I mean, isn’t there a reason most modern societies don’t have a warrior culture or at least funnel such a culture into getting people to join and support the military? What’s a warrior in peacetime? Sure, I’ve seen a video stating how in Star Trek, Klingon Warrior Culture can make a positive change by channeling the culture of victory and challenge into the civilian field, but being raised as a warrior just doesn’t seem like it’s for everyone.
The New Mandalorians may have been extreme in their pacifism to the point of only having a police force was only as strong as Naboo’s defense forces and only being on good terms with one clan, the Mandalorian Protectors, but they still seem like an improvement over a warrior-based society. What use are the skills of a warrior when there is no war? This is a major issue the clones run into after the Empire phases them out. With all due respect to Bo-Katan, I just wonder if things will work out under her reign even if she tries her best. Without an enemy like the Imperial Remnant, it seems like the only way to ensure the warrior culture doesn’t fade out in peacetime is to have Mandalorians become a mercenary army. And how many moral clients are there going to be in the galaxy?
On a related note, it seems that the Canon equivalent of the Mandalorian Excision, the Mandalorian Cataclysm as it’s called, happened in the last war between the Jedi of the Old Republic and the Mandalorians. It seems like a common theme among the Mandalorians is that like the Sith, they bring their own destruction upon them. There’s no details on what exactly happened, but it seems like some of the planet was already ruined by all the wars the Mandalorians had, maybe implying the war against the Jedi was just the finishing blow. Of course, the warrior culture survived afterwards until it was driven underground by the civil war which propped up the New Mandalorians.

Thus they form large industries to do so to make ships, weapons, medicine, rations, and other supplies. All these industries require a large, skilled and educated populace to sustain them thus the Mandalorians must have a fairly developed society.
The term warrior culture is a misnomir. No culture is really an X-type Society. There are always numerous aspects to them. In media its sometimes not as apparent when attention is given to them but they are there.
In the case of the mandalorian show we do need to keep in mind that mandalore has suffered a catastrophe thats reduce their people to refugees displaced across the galaxy and that said show is an action show so we get more view on the warrior aspect to Mandalorian society.

I see a flaw in your logic about philosophy and armour. Armour; when you are speaking of impenetrable plate armour as veskar armour represents; is not a passive thing. Is not a protection that allowsyou to think and refelex... andactually; you can see that in the series. This kind of armour is used by mandalorians as it was used by the medieval knigths: as a weapon. A knigth in plate armour an in top of his horse,could take on a small group of peasants on his own; as aliterall walking tank. A couple hundred knigths could charge into a formation of a thousand footmen and anhilate them. Even in oneon one combat, a manwithout armour takes distance, calculates; thinks before he stikes... because an error means death... A knigth in full plate armour charges; his armour will deflect most blows, he only must be weary of massive two handed polearms or warhammers going through the wak spots... and the best deffensefor is to beagressive, to wrestle your enemy into summision and force him to surrender withyour dagger. Your whole boddy becomes aweapon then; your fists are clad in stell, as they areyour knees and your forehead. Your sword is no longer a waepon to cutor trust; but an instrument to aid you in the brawl; as it is any inchof your armour.
And the same go for the mandalorians. Even in a combat ruled by blasters; Mandalorians do not convey in sheer numbers, in sneaking or in posittion and cover... they charge into battle. Fliying from above; literally mounted in the wind. They go for the man to mancombat;for the assault; where their armour will protect them but also serve as a weapon; quiteliterally cause it is full of darts, cables, flamethrowers and all kind of trics design for the close quarters... not to mention the knife. Mandalorians are not reflective. Their armour do not encourage them to mantain a col head in the batlle... butto charge the enemies stronghold and hit hard and swiftlly.
If mandalorians where supposed to be refletive; they would wear camouflage and sniper rifles; not hand blasters, an armour and a jetpack. Thesse are assault waepons, including the armour. All this stuff of passing it down... yeah; cool. But it is passed down as an offensive weapon. Anyone who picks an armour is spected to use it to charge into the fires of war. 'Si vis paccem para bellum'. 'If you seek peace, get ready for war'. That is what an armour says.

Mandalorians are fine warriors, but terrible soldiers. They don't operate as fire teams, just individualistic fighters seeking their own personal glory. The armies are mostly hordes. For example in the Mandalorian season 3, a contemporary Marine platoon would have been more effective or held the town against the Mandalorians. Or for a different universe a Fire team of Spartan IIs would easily do the same. The Mandalorian armor is a uniform, that goes over the personal identity of the warrior, and irrespected of species or gender or other ideologies except the Mandalorian philosophy

I like this channel, but sometimes the ignorance seeps in and I question subscribing each time.
There’s so many diasporas the Mandalorians could be compared to. If any, it would be former African slaves who, although through US imperialism and colonialism, went to Liberia, which isn’t an apartheid, genocidal state.
Even more, I’d actually compare them to the Romani people, who have had less acceptance than Jewish people, were also killed in large amounts during the Holocaust, and are still being persecuted to this day. But because their lineage doesn’t come from one of the main three Abrahamic religions, the western world has found them to be of less importance to highlight their plight and story.
I’d be careful with believing in the Intersectionality between civil rights movement in the US and what goes on israel. For sure there are messed up things going on their like the illegal settlements. But israel is not an apartheid state. I’ve visited the country many times in my life. There are Arab Israelis, Palestinian Arabs, Druze, Beudoin and many other groups. The Israeli Knesset (parliament) has several Arab Israeli mps as well. The only limitation that Arab Israelis face is they are not required to serve within the IDF although some individuals do anyway.
Imo the main problem is that the Palestinian people are not really United under one single leadership, the PA is seen as illegitimate and corrupt in the West Bank and Gaza is run by Hamas. Israel has on numerous occasions attempted to create a peace settlement with various Palestinian leaders but the lack of unity amongst the Palestinians meant that security assurances couldn’t be guaranteed. In the arab world political power is centered around the tribe and family. And this is really the first hurdle the Palestinian people need to overcome on their path to statehood. It’s just a real $hitty situation I blame the European powers for setting it up this way to begin with.
What this part of the world really needs is a third party peacekeeping force whether it’s Jordan or Egypt to step in but these countries also don’t really know what to l do don’t want to get involved. (They also are dealing with their own Palestinian militant problems as well)
Israel is not perfect and almost every family has lost people during one of the many the Arab wars or to terrorist attacks. The country is admittedly becoming more and more right wing and religious as a result. This has led to mass protest in the last few months, which is a good sign.
But yes, I support Israel because it’s really an oasis of stability in otherwise chaotic and old school part of the world . It’s one of the few places in the Middle East that openly supports the lgbt community and equality for women. There are even large Sudanese refugee populations in tel Aviv who were accepted there because the neighboring Arab countries refused to take them in. Not to mention the Ethiopian Jewish community that was airlifted their in the 80s. I recommend you check out Israel yourself if you ever get the opportunity. I think you’ll be surprised by what you find ;)
