I love that the most dangerous fighting force in the Star Wars Galaxy are just people doing basic tactics instead of bum rushing and overwhelming the enemy with numbers
Dude the Star Wars universe complies with cinematic rules of war. Russia could defeat Most of the militaries in the Star Wars universe. Like even without jetpacks I would expect US Marines fireteam to be more effective.
To be fair, 99.9999% of the galaxy hasn't maintained a formal army for thousands of years. When you're the only culture who practices combat & warfare on any sort of large scale, you'll probably wipe the floor with anyone who doesn't posess an overwhelming numbers or firepower advantage (hence why Din & Bo-Katan had to draw away the cruiser & fighters).
@@granatmof you may want to check that info again my friend. Remember in star wars armies are nerfed or buffed cause plot armor. Just 1 imperial star destroyer frop ep 4 (the 1st episode by release) is enough to "nuke" Moskow, from orbit. Just remember the night of 1000 tears. You cant just nuke your issues away if nukes can be doged, intercepted shot down before launch. In star wars the only 3 "militaries" worth mentioning. The Empire, The Rebellion, Pirate Nation. Mandalorian Army(defunct) The rest are armed groups too few too loose in cmand and in numbers to be called militaries. But even those can dent Russia s Army for example. Looking in what a bad state russian armed forces is in right now. If you were to take nukes away from all earth. One imperial star destroyer just 1 is enough to fuck earth. And thats before the planet killer cannons that had mini deathstar lasers.
the children of the watch have really grown on me this season. two things that I love: 1. they do not hold grudges at all. 2. The fact that the armorer fights with the tools of her trade is very cool and symbolic.
They can't in a culture of warriors, that constantly fight with each other, they would never unite as a people, if they held grudges. I think that was the problem with Bo-Katan. She was too emotional . I think expanding with Bo-Katan is good, because she is more of a leader than Din, but what will be interesting is going to all the clans with different views. Trying to bring back Wren to her side, and preventing Mandalore joining the Republic, trying to get Saxon back despite their history. Death watch, Shadow Collective and all the other groups that represent or have Mandaloreans in them.
I just want to know how she got there without a jetpack. Also because din brought up they don't have ships, how the hell did they get to the planet in the first place
You’re forgetting that a lot of Mandalorian armor is inherited. Sure it’s updated based on user preference but a lot of the time, before they’re old enough, it’s hand me down.
The Mandos are gaining victories: the Hunter Guild, the croc/turtle, the winged beast (I hope the orphans are safe) and now a pirate group (shame they couldn't capture that cruiser intact as it would have increased their forces).
They didn't take it because they've spent the first half of the season setting up a reunited Mandalorian military. Bo-Katan in the last season bringing many under her banner(including a fleet of captured Imperial ships), to lose them all after Din won the Darksaber, because she was acting out of ego. Now, after having cleansed herself in the Living Waters and finding a purpose beyond herself, has been given the task(by the Armorer) to bring the Mandalorian clans back together on Navarro, as "one who walks in both worlds".
I absolutely loved this episode simply because of the fact that it *finally* shows the Mandalorians doing what they do best: small unit tactics. The Mandalorian kill teams in Star Wars are supposedly the absolute best in Star Wars and have been for millennia. At least according to the lore. Unfortunately, they have mostly been portrayed as very competent lone mercenaries and bounty hunters, which they also are; but it's not supposed to be their forte. There was a reason the Empire decided to just glass Mandalore instead of a conventional invasion... they would have been ripped to shreds if they did and knew that.
Well said! If the Mandos had an actual air force/navy they would have never been occupied. I'm hoping they start gathering ships to make up for this one real weakness they face. It would be very cool if they bring the basilisk droid back.
I dont think the results of the glassing would have been much different even if they had a navy... that was for the most part the REASON the empire was so strong was their stupid strong naval ships that seemed limitless because of the AMOUNT of ships they had as well
Its funny to consider that Mandalorians and Jedi have more similarities than they're willing to admit. Both of them are handed weapons that they train in at somewhat the same age, both "adopt" younglings/foundlings that have a potential that appeals to them and both are experts in their respective craft. The biggest difference is probably how they view attachments.
@@WaterLockser The Protectors of Concord Dawn notably saved Kanan's life during the Clone Wars. Battle of Mygedo? Many of the warrior Mandalorians that refused to join Deathwatch (the so-called "Old Mandalorians") also trained clones.
During one of the historical entries leading up to the release of The Old Republic, the Jedi compiling the history of the Jedi/Sith conflict actually makes mention of the Jedi/Mandalorian similarities, specifically their emphasis on continuous self improvement in combat and discipline.
The main thing I noticed with the Mandalorians in the last episode was their use of firing and maneuvering. Moving from cover to cover while covering each other with fire was beautifully done
the kind of tactics that Mandalorians employ (particularly the use of small-unit tactics) can easily be compared to US Army Rangers and even various Special Operations forces (Army Special Forces, Marine Force Recon, Navy SEALs, etc)
I served 4 years on active duty in the US Marine Corps, and 7 years in the US Army National Guard. I like how you describe the difference between "warriors' and "soldiers". It seems spot on to me. I LOVE the Mandalorian culture. It reminds me of my days in the Corps. Paz Vizsla is my guy! Keep up the great videos. This is the Way, Semper Fi!
@@RCorvinus i was in the army reserves (heavy engineers) but my father was a Navy Corpsman with a Marine Light Artillery unit during the first third of his 20 year career. His marines had a bulldog for a mascot, and got him a milkgoat for his mascot (my father returned the favor by giving me a red mule ) Anyway we had a Marine come over to serve partime after he left the marines (there was no Marine Reserves in the area he moved to) and we hazed him by putting opened jars of sardines into the Springs of the seat of his truck in winter
This totally parallels when Death Watch tried to conquer Mandalore with the help of criminals while the Mandos in this timeline is liberating a planet from pirates for the right reason
I liked all the little unorthodox things, like Red Man using his grapple line every chance he got, another Mando doing a flying butt strike instead of shooting. And the lady who decided to land on a pirate before executing him
It was so nice to see the Mandalorians fighting smart in this episode. Before, it seemed like whoever was directing the scenes learned their tactics playing Orks in 40k...charge! This...this was like watching a seasoned Ranger officer and his senior NCO directing the action. Simply superb. I watched this after the season finale of Bad Batch and this was the emotional pick-me-up that I needed.
Who knew that the difference between a regular grunt (Stormtroopers, pirates, basically every other cannon fodder in SW universe) and an elite fighting force like the Mandalorians, are basic tactical movements lol. Makes me wonder if any other in-universe faction tried this..
I almost wished that episode had like atleast 10 more minutes of the Mando squads clearing the streets in tactical squads before they got pinned down... it was awesome watching move through the streets watching each others back and blasting pirates
They have rocket launchers, they didn't even need to get pinned down. 2 seconds after taking out the turret someone uses a wrist mounted rocket to take out two random pirates who weren't even under cover. It would have been better to see the turret be setup, have them take cover, make a signal for one to make covering fire draw the turret to one side while the rocket launcher takes it out from the other side. Instead they allowed themselves to get boxed in on the street instead of having units using the jetpacks to seize the high ground and provide supporting fire from on high. The way to defeat Mandalorians is allow their pride and glory seeking to put them into tactically bad situations.
@Geoffrey Lyons all you're points are right and I actually agree with you but getting pinned down was really I think just a plot point the writers did to let the Armour sneak up behind them, and that's why it happened how the show showed it
@@granatmof You hafta remember this is Child of the Watch, not Death Watch or Shadow Collective or whatever faction that's primed primarily for war. regardless of how well-trained these Mandos are, they're still, for the most part, civilians who prioritize surviving & passing on their warrior culture, instead of actually learning how to fight wars in almost every waking moment. i'd even argue that a good number of them never got into firefights serious enough that tactics & formations are absolutely required, given that their gear is widely regarded as top-of-the-line & just bum-rushing into enemies with superior gear is enough to come out on top most of the time. ironically, those flaws are actually well-done for the context, since it actually shows that they still have a long way to go if they were to prove themselves as an effective fighting collective, & how they're still more of a civilian tribe than an actual military unit.
This episode is the first time in Star Wars where I’ve seen literally anyone move in a somewhat tactical manner rather than just rushing the opposing force
Watching the episode I was reminded of how the Clones fought in their best moments, and the events also playing out in the Bad Batch's season where the Clones just want to continue fighting despite being phased out of the empire. I've said it before, but they're practically Mandalorians. They might be semi-brainwashed clones of one exile but still, I'm surprised there aren't more comparisons being made.
Karen Traviss takes this further. Since the commandos were trained by mostly Mandalorian instructors, The commandos were raised from childhood as Mandalorians and this culture permeated down to the clones. A large number spoke Mando’a and Rex’s jaig eyes on his helmet are a Mandalorian battle honor.
@@paulbischoff5685 yeah Genndy made them cool in his shorts and Karen breathed life and culture into them. If They brought in Papa Kal and his boys and showed they had a cure for the aging that would be awesome.
@@paulbischoff5685 ARC troopers wore kama which is a Mandalorian cultural thing. There is an example of one ARC trooper (kaddak) who named Himself after a Mandalorian god of war or something and during training got into a fight with his trainer (Mandalorian) and killed him (with his bare handS).
What I took from this episode. The Mandos become heros to the people and also have a chance to increase their numbers from those that they rescued. It's a publicity and recruiting move.
I loved the tactics and firing and maneuvering executed at a squad level, it was just so refreshing to see something good and solid as opposed to some crazy outlandish shit that is trying too hard. These are seasoned veterans of conflict, they've been around the block a few times. As soon as one of them gets taken out (he could have lived but the kinetic energy from the EWEB or whatever heavy repeater definitely knocked him on his ass) they are darting into cover and waiting for their maneuver element (in this case the armorer) to flank and neutralize the threat, whereupon they immediately continue progressing through the town and covering and supporting each other despite their inherent advantage. They are aggressive and eschew to a more "Fortune Favors the Bold" doctrine of superior firepower, and aggressive pushes meant to catch people lacking and combine the separate elements into a spearhead after taking our the fringe elements on the outskirts that would have converged and flanked them otherwise. This firefight was a breath of fresh air the likes of which have not been seen since Andor and Rogue One. They may be some bad motherfuckers too, but pirate or not once you surrender they aren't going to just gun you down because they have a sense of honor. They truly are the best fighting force in the galaxy, it's just a shame that much like the Spartans of old their society isn't sustainable to a grand scale thus causing them to be overwhelmed by blistering firepower and unrelenting numbers from the empire.
Awesome comment. . . I loved when the Mando commander looked at the Salicous Crumb monkeys and called out possible ambush, then his crew immediately took cover. Truly they are the best fighting force in the Galaxy😁
Nah they made several tactical blunders. It's was better but they could do better. Just about every Mandalorian carries rockets and a Jetpack. When facing an opposing heavy mounted weapon draw its attention to one side an launch a rocket from the other. It should be muscle memory considering after the Eweb is taken out, someone immediately wastes and wrist mounted rocket on two dudes not even taking cover.
yeah, watching the armorer do her thing reminds me of a crazy stunt i did in a FIBUA exercise at a mock village, just snuck into an unguarded alley and took out the opfor's coy comd who was smoking in said alley (who also happened to be my drinking buddy), but then again our rifles went off at the same time (MILES gear) and we took each other out.. since we were both dead, i bummed a cigarette from him and we resumed smoking in peace...
In Legends there used to be a saying the Soldier was every mandalorian's SECOND job, so you'd see mandalorians farming or running shops on the day to day, but when the call went out it was helmets on and guns up.
@@danzansandeev6033 You have to take individual factions & time period into account. in this particular setting, there're only the Child of the Watch & scattered Mando mercs since Mandalore was glassed. having lost their home world & the empire having ruled for 25 years prior, meant that any surviving pockets of Mandalorian communities never actually got big or well-to-do enough to train their own in a more militaristic one, regardless of whether the faction in question was even interested in doing so in the first place. in a way, you could say that they couldn't be soldiers simply becuz for the most part, Mandos at this time period are just too busy surviving.
It is a shame that while Mandalorians are given time to shine as formidable warriors, there is no love given for Stormtroopers who were supposed to be elite soldiers compared to the Imperial Army. And yet they end up as chew toys for the protagonists in every battle.
@@Fuzzycat16 Its actually a sequel and rebels thing. Until then it was iffy but explainable and if you delved deep enough you could make sense of it, its only after Disney capitcalized on it and started mentioning how bad stormtroopers are is when it was really set in stone.
Even though all mandalorians are warriors, they don't have to uproot their whole society to go to war, they could just as easily deploy in cycles like the national guard, always have a good built frontlime while having plenty of people to run their society
Correction. until Satine Kryze took charge & effectively abandoned their martial culture & organize themselves into something more like regular communities in most worlds, Mandalorians were, by default, warriors. every single one of them, regardless of how capable they are at holding a fight. while their history has pretty much revolved around wars, for the most part of their history, they were never soldiers. they never had to uproot their society to go to war, cuz their culture simply revolved around fighting right from the get go, always revolving around getting better in fights, making better tools of war, & seeking out small conflicts that would require their presence. they had a martial culture, yet going to war was never much of a concern to them. actually going to war, for the most part of their history, was only done when war came to them.
There were good bounding tactics and communication between the mandalorians. Seeing these mandalorians adopt an aggressive posture with their carbines, coordinating their shots, and having excellent communication is what is taught in any infantry unit, whether 0311 or 11 Bravo.
For me I felt like the show was building up to this point since day one. I loved the scene where all the Mandalorians came to Dinn and Gogurt's rescue in season one. I also liked seeing the tactics of Bo-Katan and her cadre in season two... but this? This episode is peak Mando. This is what I've wanted to see the entire time the show has been running. and if I can see more of that, I'll be soooo happy.
I often think of the Mandalorians as analgous to the Mongol Hordes in our world. They work best as Warrior-Nomads, forming massive warbands whenever a charismatic leader comes up. After that they usually take over many worlds, but don't seem to often directly govern them. They instead extract tribute, and then incorporate some of the population into their own ranks to continue the crusade. After that, they just scramble to balance logistics between managing their warfleets, and keeping their teetering empire together. I would LOVE to see the post-sequels era involve a Rise of the Mandalorians type thing.
I wish they showed the mandalorians fighting together like a navy seal team, coordinated and deadly and fast. Like more john which style action. But i agree it was a better episode than the rest.
The thing about the last episode that i HATE is that the mandalorians didnt atempt to hijack the big pirate ship. It would have been a MAJOR asset for Navarro as a planet defence ship. Just get a few old x-wings and your golden for most low to mid level threats from pirates and a deterence for bigger forces aswell. Man, that grinds my gears!!!
I think the reason why this didn't happen is because the people of Nevarro really just wanted peace at that point, and it wouldn't have been feasible to try to find enough workers to man the ship, as no one would want to. I think it would've been cool in the Mandalorians took the ship for themselves, but then that would actually be the opposite issue: They want nothing but to fight. They wouldn't have liked being stuck on a ship, there's a big difference between shooting cannons on a ship and actually being on the ground fighting. Although, let's he honest, the showrunners probably just didn't care enough to do this lol
True, it would have been helpful for Nevarro's defense - but on the other hand, if it becomes well-known that Nevarro is protected by Mandalorians, other groups might not even try to take it over.
They probably would have seized it if they had time, but since Shard was running the ship into the civilians the priority was to stop his suicide run even if it cost them the ship.
When the Mandos called out on their comms "We are boxed in!", it was a trap for the Pirates. More Pirates jumped in, hoping to overwhelm the 'trapped' Mandos. 'The Heavy' was holding back for situations just like this! The Pirates were so bunched-up in that narrow alley, 'The Heavy' didn't really need to aim. Literally 'mowed them down'.
You nailed it on the head right there with the comment of "the mandos are basically playing call of duty". Having a bunch of mandos, is like having the clan hop on to a game they fondly remember years later.
The Mandalorians are the Galactic version of the Spartans of Ancient Greece. Borne into a warrior society they not only expect to die in battle they want to die in battle. I suppose they could also be a parallel for space Vikings as well.
The Klingon in ST are more apt to this, the Mandalorian even if with a lot similiarity and also a warrior society seem to not have any problem in dieing on your own bed of old age surrounded by family and friend
I really love that even acting as a military, Mandalorian's don't use ranks. They know that experience is what wins the day, not protocol or careers. They flow together and fight for one another. Also thank you for explaining the difference between warrior and soldier. Not a lot of people understand there is a big difference between the 2.
Two things about Paz Visla: 1. He totally won me over in this episode. He might be my favorite Mando. 2. He is definitely the Star Wars equivalent of Animal Mother from Full Metal Jacket.
Personally I saw them more as classic Greek Spartans, not the HALO type, but Greek type. Professional warriors brought up from childhood to fight and to serve with honor. Each Mando would protect their reputation to the death since that was everything to them. Other Mandos would judge you by that reputation. Not unlike Navy SEALS.
I want to know the Children of the Watch's answer to the logistical questions that are raised by their existence. Like, once they transition out of hidden coverts supported by mercenaries and bountyhunters paying a Tithe, how will they feed, shelter, and arm themselves? The current way is not scalable to a city or a nation.
the Deathwatch before robbed isolated village and planet to sustain themselfs, the Children are a group with a limited number of member so is much easier to stay hidden and move
Currently theyre the military arm of an independent trade planet. Basically think varingians and byzantium. If they need to scale past that id say a feudal system. Basically navarro but more they set up fortifications on planets in return for mando protection the planet feeds and pays them. No pirate is messing with mandalorian knights(paladins?) And they get real protection unlike republic or first order. Considering the language karga uses is very feudal, the fact mandalorians are essentially a crusader order with no crusade or kingdom. And a "pirate alliance" is mentioned as a legitimate faction. TL;DR KING ARTHUR IN SPACE BITCH
@@cmdrbratliff6226 i really hope they do fully commit to mandalorians become paladins. Its an extremely natural progression for their lore and would be so fucking badass. Like bo said "there was a time mandalorians and jedi were friends and fought side by side" Plus its the perfect unification of mando ideals even satines pacifism. They already have the "defend foundlings at all costs" maxim. Is it that much of a stress to "defend our benefactors" they clearly greatly enjoyed being the hero for once. And it would give them a way to stay mandalorians, live in harmony with galactic society AND fix the outer rim problem that the republic nevet could and never would beable too
I'm really hoping the Children of The Watch/Other Mandos who join their cause become the guardians of the outerrim. Would be cool to see them become what the Jedi failed to be.
@@dianabarnett6886 That would likely get the New Republic nervous as the last time Mandalorians made an empire a whole war happened literally named "The Mandalorian Wars"
@@dianabarnett6886 that's pretty much what I'm saying. If they can't handle those factions. If the Mandalorians started making an empire again it would make the New Republic extremely nervous
Traditional Mando culture had ranks and different roles for the warriors. The armor we see now is a elite commando. It allows Maneuverable tactics vs the neo Mando armor which was considered a heavy grunt as it completely covered the body in beskar and had a different helmet design. Color according to the books had meaning and it also could reflect the rank. It will be interesting to see how Disney approaches this if at all since they killed most of the pre-disney lore.
I'm getting Clone Commando Vibez from the Children of the watch I know mandos taught clones and ect. But seeing the Masters do it instead of the Apprentices is just something you have to see.
"The term [doctrine] also applies to the concept of an established procedure to execute an operation in warfare. The typical example is tactical doctrine in which a standard set of maneuvers, kinds of troops and weapons are employed as a default approach to a kind of attack." We saw one attack, you can't deduce a doctrine from one attack.
Here is a theory. The stormtroopers look the way they do because they are trying to resemble mandalorians. They evolved from the clone troopers that came from a mandalorian so I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the idea was to play off their reputation.
It's amazing how they've taken a very mysterious character like Boba Fett (when episode five came out, everyone knows about him today) and turned in entire society!
Remeber that Mandalorian armor is also made out of beskar, which lightsabers can't cut. Properly made beskar'gam will protect a fighter from almost everything but heavy anti-armor artillery. That increases survivability, which leads to increasingly experienced fighters, and that leads to increased lethality. Furthermore, their clan structure, which actually revolves around small family units, increases unit cohesion, and that too leads to survivability and lethality.
Honestly I was suprised how well they perform in that battle! Like when Bo given them the brief and say they should "act" like a squad, I thought the Children of the Watch were a bunch of noob!
They won, but they weren't as effective as they could have been. They wasted time playing with flamethrowers in open spaces and using grappling hooks at enemy combatants instead of just shooting. When they came under heavy fire from a fixed turret, none of them used the readily available wrist and back mounted rockets to take it out, instead relying on but not communicating to other fireteams of the threat. They likewise have jetpacks and failed to have units acting as sniper and supporting fire positions. They need to train better at how to operate as smaller fireteams to gain more teams to move around the battlefield with quicker more hit and run tactics to further divide a larger fighting force. Their shot placement was overall pretty good considering the rules of Star wars, but it can always be better. Not sure of the barrel and ammo capacity of blaster rifles, but I expect it to be hundred of round per power pack and thousands of rounds per barrel. Recharging can be cheap as well as swapping and recycling barrels so they're not constrained by ammunition limits in training.
@@granatmof huh ya know im thinking that was on purpose. Theyve gotta have a "glow up" and they have been fighting solo as bounty hunters for a LONG time. I bet we get a battle later on where they really come into it.
The Mandalorian's combat drop over Nevarro was just as cool as I was hoping it would be from the first time I saw the trailer. It's been great seeing Mandalorians other than Din, Paz, Bo-Katan, and The Armourer. I wonder what they are all like. Are they fierce, cold, heartless warriors? Or are they loving, honorable, and compassionate like Din? Will we see Koksa Reeves and Ax Woves again?
On a related note: one of the things I took from the episode was that once navarro (sp) started to develop the way it has, they should spent some money to at least start a PDF.
It is amazing to think about. A mando civie is worth like 20 republic scouts on the field, if not more. They usually work alone, but anytime something comes to threaten the well-being of the group, all of a sudden, you have an elite fighting force with damn near perfect cohesion with basically zero in fighting. Shit goes from zero to 100 real quick with a force like that.
You always have an astute understanding of martial topics. Are you a vet? Or just a connoisseur of things military? Both are great! Love these videos!!! Where's Ben and American Ben been???
Mandalorians are basically samurai. That Tom cruise movie sums it up well; even against larger forces with modern equipment they still won battle after battle from superior training and tactics.
till the larger force with modern equipment got enough training to make good of what they had; in the Last Samurai they beat a force that was just put together and with unfinished training
It was fun seeing the Mandalorians actually using some tactics. Admittedly they could have done better, but seeing any tactics at all is a step up from typical Star Wars. I just wish they took the pirate ship. That would have been a fine addition to their firepower. And I liked how it looked.
@@GenerationTech True true. The cultures are very different obviously, but all the plains indians shared many similarities with the CoTW, nomadic, tight knit, warrior culture, war parties, Strong culture that defined them as a people, foundlings weren't as important to plains indians, but that was solely because they didn't want children who had learned enough from their own tribe, who would grow old and bring in different ideas. Adherence to their culture was essential, which the CoTW also share. I have absolutely loved watching the presentation of this culture over the seasons.
Carth onasi: "I'm not a warrior, i'm a soldier. There's a difference.Warriors attack and conquer, they prey on the weak.Soldiers defend and protect the innocent-usually from warriors."
Anyone else in love with that pirate ship? Shame it got blown to bits, it was like a mini Eclipse, I loved how the gun ports opened and they run out the guns like sailing ships, the open hangar with only a forcefield as cover was a nice touch. Shame they couldn't salvage it and reuse it as as system defence vessel.
So obvious with the movement from cover to cover as opposed to just bum rushing into the fight. The Mando's way of life is pretty grim, but it works when it's needed. Oh yeah, another football reference. I think Allan (sp?) wants to suit up again. Anyway, as always, great comments.
This is message to all mandalorians The Empire have sent us a message... That they can take whatever they want. That no one can stop them. Well we will send them a message. That they can not take whatever they want! And that this... this is our Planet! All mandalorians answered the call of the mythosaur of mandalore.
So glad the Mandalorians are finally getting the attention and screen time they deserve. The amount of interest in this show has me optimistic that we will see a Mandalorian video game within the next few years. I mean come on, mandalorians are practically BUILT to be main characters. They've got the best armor in the galaxy, that you could upgrade and customize through finding beskar. There's the plethora of gadgets and attachments that would make for cool abilities and upgrades. They also happen to be part of a recognizable yet exclusive and mysterious faction. It all screams for a video game adaptation. You could have the game feature din, or you could just be any random mandalorian, and it would still work.
It took only two Mandalorians piloting, nontraditional-type fighter craft to take out a warship-type, pirate star-cruiser, as well as the cruiser's complement of snub fighters.
Going off what we saw in how the Mandalorians operated as teams of two, how do you think they'd have faired against a couple similar sized teams of special forces like Delta force, Navy Seals, British SAS or Royal Marine Commandos.
The Mandalorians would probably train the best of the best of the elite special forces on how to fight. They would be teachers in our special forces academies.
Their like a bunch of Space Spartans wearing Protect-Gear armor from anime series Kerberos Saga with the jet packs from The Rocketeer/Commando Cody! The Result you have a Heavily Armed, highly Trained rapidly deployable force with high tactical and Strategic mobility along a high Survivability. Basically they are an entire nation of people with training and skillsets similar Navy Seals or Army Rangers along with the Fanatical Devotion Imperial Japanese Military, no wonder the Jedi feared them so much and were a great threat to the Old Republic, and the Empire was Weary of them. Side Note: The character Commander Cody (CC-2224) was inspired by the Movie Serial Character Commando Cody!
Alan: "They still make the finest fighting force in the entire galaxy." Those times everyone in the galaxy joined forces to fight the Mandalorians: "Are you sure about that?"
Needing the galaxy to join together to beat you says quite a bit about your fighting force. That is like saying you need all the countries on earth to fight the state of Rhode Island.
You are not wrong but the Mandalorians did this multiple times and lost during those, so if it wasn't for the change of leadership and the return of peaceful times I believe they would have eventually started losing that war too. (This last part is just speculation, though history would have likely repeated itself.)
What i always wondered about mandalorian armor is if it is sealed, if it can used as a space suit in the vacuum of space. If it is when coupled with a jetpack it could allow them to board enemy ships, they disembark from their ship, use the jetpacks to approach the enemy one, cut open the hull, enter and slaughter the crew inside, not only they disable an enemy ship, they can also commandeer it and use it themselves.
I didnt think they were all that good when they were trying to fight of that giant crocodile thing, but they really showed themselfs off in this episode
The mandolorians are like the south african boers in the boer wars, who were mostly farmers, when they fought the british they were organised as a militia army, but they were more accurate than the british because they hunted for food, they all had horses and were the pioneers of commando tactics
they were incredible marksmen too, probably coz they had to hunt game for food in the old days, my buddy used to tell me a story about his family where if they left to go hunting with 1 bullet and didn't bring anything back for the pot, they got an asswhooping for wasting that bullet
Mandalorians are the Spartans of the Star War's Universe. This is further evidenced by Din Dijarin's character, which is almost Clint Eastwood esque, and perfectly mirrors how the Spartans were portrayed in ancient Greek texts.
When you have the armor to keep your soldiers alive, then better make the most of that experience and make them as capable as possible. Giving the same training to disposable mass armies like storm troopers would for the most part be wasted.
Ran a Star Wars d6 game a few years back that heavily involved Mandos...before really using them much, had a few conversations with former military friends who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and especially older family friends and family who served in Vietnam. Incorporated what I already knew, and just took that to the logical conclusion. I identified one aspect key to the Mandos that's on the periphery of all published material, but never explicitly pointed out: their single most effective strategic weapon is FUD. Once I came to the conclusion everything Mandos did should have a core psy ops component, pretty much everything else fell into place. I ended up with them having this strange, chaotic-appearing, dance between rapid dominance, hit-and-run, and insurgency tactics, always to maximize confusion and demoralization in opposing forces.
I love that the most dangerous fighting force in the Star Wars Galaxy are just people doing basic tactics instead of bum rushing and overwhelming the enemy with numbers
And, they aim before shooting/ pulling the trigger. Paz is doing it right after.

They hold grudges, they just don't let it get in the way of doing the right/noble thing.
And really, I think that might even be better.
They didn't take it because they've spent the first half of the season setting up a reunited Mandalorian military.
They had a fleet. But you can only stand up to so many ISD’s. It’s not like they had beskar ships.

Even though all mandalorians are warriors, they don't have to uproot their whole society to go to war, they could just as easily deploy in cycles like the national guard, always have a good built frontlime while having plenty of people to run their society
That's how it generally works when their society is larger than a small clan.
Correction. until Satine Kryze took charge & effectively abandoned their martial culture & organize themselves into something more like regular communities in most worlds, Mandalorians were, by default, warriors. every single one of them, regardless of how capable they are at holding a fight. while their history has pretty much revolved around wars, for the most part of their history, they were never soldiers. they never had to uproot their society to go to war, cuz their culture simply revolved around fighting right from the get go, always revolving around getting better in fights, making better tools of war, & seeking out small conflicts that would require their presence. they had a martial culture, yet going to war was never much of a concern to them. actually going to war, for the most part of their history, was only done when war came to them.
There were good bounding tactics and communication between the mandalorians. Seeing these mandalorians adopt an aggressive posture with their carbines, coordinating their shots, and having excellent communication is what is taught in any infantry unit, whether 0311 or 11 Bravo.

Not just like navy seals, pretty sure they fight like every US special forces unit combined
If a junker like that can be taken down by the laser cannons of a modified N1, it probably is not worth it.
Same.
True, it would have been helpful for Nevarro's defense - but on the other hand, if it becomes well-known that Nevarro is protected by Mandalorians, other groups might not even try to take it over.
They probably would have seized it if they had time, but since Shard was running the ship into the civilians the priority was to stop his suicide run even if it cost them the ship.
i was cheering through the whole episode! probably the most fun ive had watching something in a while.
The argument between Canderous and Carth Onasi in KOTOR defined the difference between warriors and soldiers perfectly, imo

I mean original clone commandos were very heavily influenced by the mandos
All we needed was them chanting Dha Werda Verda or singing Vode An on the way to battle.
"The term [doctrine] also applies to the concept of an established procedure to execute an operation in warfare. The typical example is tactical doctrine in which a standard set of maneuvers, kinds of troops and weapons are employed as a default approach to a kind of attack."
We saw one attack, you can't deduce a doctrine from one attack.
I'm just happy to see fighters using actual infantry tactic and cover instead of shooting from the hip and charging over open ground
Here is a theory. The stormtroopers look the way they do because they are trying to resemble mandalorians. They evolved from the clone troopers that came from a mandalorian so I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the idea was to play off their reputation.
i mean thats pretty well established in canon that their helmets were designed after the mandolorian helmets.

Or are they loving, honorable, and compassionate like Din? Will we see Koksa Reeves and Ax Woves again?
Those mandalorians moved like they just got back MOUT training. They must've gotten some good technical advisers for this episode.
Sounds like the Jedi Order.
I recall reading somewhere that during the Mandalorian Wars, the Republic lost 100 soldiers on average for every Mandalorian killed in battle.
Truly amazing. They looked like they’d fought 200 of these together.

till the larger force with modern equipment got enough training to make good of what they had; in the Last Samurai they beat a force that was just put together and with unfinished training
It was fun seeing the Mandalorians actually using some tactics. Admittedly they could have done better, but seeing any tactics at all is a step up from typical Star Wars.
I just wish they took the pirate ship. That would have been a fine addition to their firepower. And I liked how it looked.
Mandalorians give me the sense of if comanche war parties had special forces training.
The Comanches had their horses the mando a have their jet packs 😂
There's a difference.Warriors attack and conquer, they prey on the weak.Soldiers defend and protect the innocent-usually from warriors."
hi allen thank u for consistent uploads homie
Anyone else in love with that pirate ship? Shame it got blown to bits, it was like a mini Eclipse, I loved how the gun ports opened and they run out the guns like sailing ships, the open hangar with only a forcefield as cover was a nice touch. Shame they couldn't salvage it and reuse it as as system defence vessel.
Imagine the equivalent of today to this episode.
' We're being attacked by the Hells Angels, how do we fight back!? '
" SEND IN THE MARINES!!!!!!! "
And now Navarro is one of the safest plants in the outer rim.
So obvious with the movement from cover to cover as opposed to just bum rushing into the fight. The Mando's way of life is pretty grim, but it works when it's needed. Oh yeah, another football reference. I think Allan (sp?) wants to suit up again. Anyway, as always, great comments.
Mandalorians are the Epitome of "Peace through Superior Firepower".
Basically this.
Mandalorian Leonidas: You there. What is your Profession?
A star wars video about my favorite culture that used my favorite game series, gears of war as an example......PEAK
This is message to all mandalorians The Empire have sent us a message... That they can take whatever they want. That no one can stop them. Well we will send them a message. You ride out as fast as the wind can carry you... You tell the other clans to come. Tell them Mandalore calls to them! You fight now, with me! My Brothers! Sisters! And we will show the The Empire... That they can not take whatever they want! And that this... this is our Planet!
All mandalorians answered the call of the mythosaur of mandalore.
I feel like they had ex service members either stunt doubling or at least involved in the choreography of the battle scene. It was very slick.
Have you ever seen the conversation Canderous Ordo the Mandalorian has with Carth Onasi in KOTOR? Sums it up well.
Im really liking how the mandalorians are being depicted in live action.
9:33 when I watched the scene where the guy is like team 2 moving in I was legit, thinking, best feel like I’m playing call of duty, modern warfare
I use to be crazy about Jedi but over time the Mando's are my favorite now; everything they do is tactical.
They have good armor, highly trained soldiers with heavy protective armor makes a good combo.
Going off what we saw in how the Mandalorians operated as teams of two, how do you think they'd have faired against a couple similar sized teams of special forces like Delta force, Navy Seals, British SAS or Royal Marine Commandos.
With weapon and armor parity of course, of else the fight will be extremely one sided
With equal equipment, it would probably be a close fight.
@@dianabarnett6886 I agree, figured it would be interesting as the Mandos kind of acted and moved like a special ops unit would.
@@emilv.3693 of course with equal equipment, my mistake I didn't make thay clear.
The only thing I thought was missing from that Mandalorian deployment was a chanting of Vode An
They are probably saving that for the season finale.
Id even take dha werd verda
@@neofulcrum5013 Arguably even better
Alan: "They still make the finest fighting force in the entire galaxy."
Those times everyone in the galaxy joined forces to fight the Mandalorians: "Are you sure about that?"
Needing the galaxy to join together to beat you says quite a bit about your fighting force.
That is like saying you need all the countries on earth to fight the state of Rhode Island.
That was the joke, the only time they weren't the finest was when they were up against the entire galaxy.
I also recall the entire galaxy was losing until a certain Jedi revanchist took command.
You are not wrong but the Mandalorians did this multiple times and lost during those, so if it wasn't for the change of leadership and the return of peaceful times I believe they would have eventually started losing that war too. (This last part is just speculation, though history would have likely repeated itself.)
There's a reason I affectionately refer to a group of Mandalorian warriors as "Commandolorians".
Great episode
Quality has a Quantity of its own.
5:49 they even have muzzle discipline
Mandalorians are the Spartans of the Star War's Universe. This is further evidenced by Din Dijarin's character, which is almost Clint Eastwood esque, and perfectly mirrors how the Spartans were portrayed in ancient Greek texts.
tactics good - strategy bad - Thrawn is watching
I absolutely loved seeing mandalorians at work in the newest episode
When you have the armor to keep your soldiers alive, then better make the most of that experience and make them as capable as possible. Giving the same training to disposable mass armies like storm troopers would for the most part be wasted.
Agreed, great episode
I like how Mandalorian's are so effective because they use modern earth tactics in the Star Wars Galaxy.
Mandalorian giving Brotherhood of Steel vibes
