  • Attempting to do some tilling around the house with my Troybilt Pony rear tine tiller. I have not used in a few years. I can get the engine started by adding a small amount of fuel into the carburetor. It is powered by a 5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine. I believe the culprit is a lack of fuel. It will run until the fuel added to carburetor is consumed. I believe the culprit is a dirty carb. Watch as I fumble through an attempt to remove the carburetor from the Briggs and Stratton engine. I make a few mistakes along the way. This could help prevent a few errors on your next tiller repair. Can I get this Troybilt Pony rototiller running again???? Watch and learn from my mistakes. I included a product link to some carburetor repair parts I helped a view locate. These parts will fit my tiller with Briggs and Stratton engine Model# 135292. Nice work, roto-tilling at night; my favorite. Keeps my neighbors happy too. They will call and enthusiastically ask what the heck is giving so much pleasure.

      I don't intentionally try to upset them, but sometimes I'm sure they are wondering, 'what the heck is this guy doing?' I think I win back some saving graces when I use my noisy equipment to plow their snow covered driveways. 🤔..... Thanks for watching and happy tilling! 👍😁

    This was an excellent video and explanation of a carburetor clean and repair. It helped me a great amount as I tackled the same job. Well done filming and details to explain what was being done. I had a few questions after I was done and Andy was very gracious and helpful in answering them. He responded within the same day and I really appreciate that kind of service. I wish he was in my local area as I would use his services. I would recommend subscribing to his channel. Thanks Andy!

      Thanks! I believe I clipped it on the linkage before fully bolting everything in position. It's easier to tilt and manipulate into the linkage when it's free. If you look at the channels FB or Instagram page I have pictures of the carb linkage posted October 2021. Thanks for watching! 👍😁

There is a stamp number on the tube going back to the tine drive. Maybe they are all the same OR typical. Just need the seals for a repair. THANKS in advance.

      Thanks! There are several options to improve performance after winter storage. I recommend the following for best performance; use a fuel stabilizer during extending periods in storage, run the fuel out of the carburetor, and utilize a good quality fuel. They sell off-road only gasoline that does not contain ethanol. It's much better for aluminum carburetors though I've never tried it. Thanks for watching 👍😁

      I just looked for the information in the manuals I have available. I never checked my ignition system, but the manual indicates my unit has an electronic ignition without points. My best guess would be 0.015 - 0.020". Thanks for watching! 👍😁

      For Briggs, they are the model, type and code numbers. They are typically stamped into the side of the recoil/blower housing where you can't see them until you take it off. The model number of the tiller won't get you parts for the engine usually. Especially with Briggs.

    Most of the time its the clog fuel filter, trash in the tank, not getting spark, fuel pump, or carburetor solenoid There made cheap IN CHINA . My new pony just died on me for no reason what so EVER. I went threw the procedures any way, I found trash in the tank blew it out and the line and put a new fuel filter on and still wouldn't start. So i replace the carburetor solenoid! IT FIRED RIGHT UP > this is the replacement for the solenoid 694393 Fuel Solenoid Valve For 17.5 hp briggs engine> it should come with new wires and a plug end

    • @FlatThunder
      @FlatThunder  4 года назад +1

      Interesting. I have never worked on a gasoline engine, at least one that I can remember, that had an electronic fuel solenoid. They sure do not make the engines like they used to. Thanks for sharing. It might help others working on a tiller with a bad fuel solenoid valve. Happy you were able to get your machine up and running again. Did I read that correctly? A 17 1/2 hp tiller???? That's a beast.

      @@FlatThunder If you clean the old one up and put in a new diaphragm it should work. If your tank is a mess any carb you put on won't work long. Be sure to look for a crack in the pickup tube. Mine is running ok with the chinese carb, cost me 20 dollars.
