  • Picked up this tiller with a couple other items. After getting it home I noticed it was stuck stuck. I couldn't pull the rope or anything. What have I got myself into again?

The wheels are rusted to the axle. With the hub pins are not engaged as they are the tires should free wheel. When being used to drive the tiller the pins need to be inserted through the holes in the hubs and through the axle.

Finally I found a video with someone actually showing the belt routing. I agree with all the other comments about getting that rust off of the spindles so you can free wheel it. I have a cover for that motor also. This motor I had from a customer had zero compression so he bought a new one.

Pull the pin on the drive wheel so it will free-wheel on the axle. It’s in gear, now. Also pull the shroud, you may find something was jamming against the coil stopping rotation to prevent future problems. Also get another wind or two on the starter rewind. . Chineseum carbs are cheap on Amazon. I prefer the HIPA ones.

Checked into the wheels. They were not pin on, but rusted to the axle. 4lb sledge hammer, a punch, and some of blast got the wheels spinning freely now

Timothy DC that’s good, at least you freed em up. Looks like it’ll be a good machine. Good job

The wheels are actually set to free wheel. The wheels are probably seized to the axle. The wheels have a hole that matches a hole in the axle. Set the pin through both holes and now your wheels are locked to the axle.

Yes, I have ran into a couple tillers that the wheels end up being seized

  • @berkeleycountysmallenginer3842

Whats the engine numbers for that. I have the exact same tiller with no engine numbers on it.

Excellent fix Tim. What do you figure the exhatust valve problem was? Maybe a sticky pushrod from sitting? Great vid.

Possibly. It was definitely something on the exhaust side. It just ended up needing a bit of love haha
