  • I originally thought the pull start had locked up until i noticed the fuel leaking from the carburettor.
    Then i quickly realised the engine was hydraulically looked up due to fuel in the cylinder.
    Follow along to see how quick and easy it is to fix with minimal basic tools, and an important must do before you attempt to fire it back up.

    Just a note that I recently learned about hydrolocking my engine. When you are removing the old gas from the cylinder by pulling the starter lead, be SURE TO NOT HAVE THE SPARK PLUG LEAD ANYWHERE NEAR A GROUNDED POINT!! The gas/oil mix might ignite due to sparking. Could happen just saying. Learned that from a seasoned tech who must have had it happen in the past. Great video and thanks...

    Awesome informative video, I never thought of the importance of turning the fuel tap off…every day is a school day !
    When I change my oil, much like your method, I get a bit of masking tape and run across the bottom of the engine under the oil plug so to stop oil getting under the engine when draining the oil….that’s my 5 cents worth 😂

    Pull rope on 2-stroke trimmer stuck until I removed the spark plug. Then the cylinder moves smoothly with no resistance. Assumed hydrolock. Drained the fuel and checked the carburetor, but as soon as the plug is re-inserted the problem returns. Any suggestions on how to proceed under this scenario? (By the way, when I checked the carburetor I found the air filter to be saturated with fuel.)

    • @rustyinspirations
      @rustyinspirations  Год назад +1

      G’day Robert, hmm 🤔 It sure does sound hydro locked doesn’t it. Did you find fuel in the cylinder? Being 2 stroke the air and fuel gets sucked into the crank case on the up stroke, so possibly fuel in there also. You might need to remove the plug again and turn it over while it’s upside down or on its side. Or Evan remove the carburettor to get the fuel out. Let me know how you get on 😃👍🏻

  • @barrygrant2907
    @barrygrant2907 8 месяцев назад +3

    If you install about a 2-inch pipe in the drain hole with an elbow and plug on the end, you won't have oil running all over the place when you drain it. It will run right into the container. Don't know why manufacturers always put the drain right on the frame like that.

    • @ImRemy_

      @@rustyinspirations no worries. Mine was hydro locked as well. I think mine had an issue in the valves/springs though bc after i had drained the oil and lubed the piston it was doing what i described before so i took the valve cover off to check how they were moving and the pull cord started acting normal.

    I think I have the same issue, however after draining the gas and removing the spark plug, my cord is still stuck. I can't pull and force gas out of the whole where the spark plug is. Does that mean I'm not experiencing hyrdolock on my pressure washer?

  • @user-kt3vd9zy9g

    Hondas r bad about flooding the cylinder with motor oil if the motor is knocked over even seen the better pressure washer 3000 psi or more fluid lock switch most of the. Time is hydraulic or motor oil inside the pump pressure adjustment that also can seize the engine

      Good point😃, yes I have also came across some Honda's with oil in the top end 👍🏻

  • @robert-zj7ef
    @robert-zj7ef 4 месяца назад +1

    Im not a mechanic so I don't know what you mean when you say bottom end. Is your point that the oil needs changing?

    • @rustyinspirations
      @rustyinspirations  4 месяца назад +1

      Gday Robert, the bottom end is the crankcase, (everything below the cylinder and piston) The crank case contains oil to lubricate the bottom end. Although after time the oil can become slightly contaminated with a small amount of fuel that makes its way past the piston rings. In this case it was exssesive, to the point it had actually increased the oil level. This much fuel will thin the oil and possibly not lubricate as intended. I hope this answers upu question. But feel free to ask more. I'll do my best to answer them 😃👍🏻

    • @rustyinspirations

      G’day mate. Unfortunately a lockup engine isn't always a simple hydraulic lock fix. It could be the pull cord, Or it could be something internal in the engine And sometimes catastrophic. In your instance it could possibly be the pump its self that is locked up. You could test this by separating the engine from the pump to narrow down where the problem lies. 😃

    Yeah I’ve done all of this even tried the magic oil down the spark plug hole. When I put the spark plug back in it locks. I’ve even taken off the carb and cleared the fluid. Only 1 month old engine. The gas did flow to the oil and got into my filter, I removed filter and changed oil still locking up when I put the spark plug back in. When the spark plug is out I can pull it though. I’m very confused on what to do next.

    • @rustyinspirations
      @rustyinspirations  11 месяцев назад +1

      Gday mate, the only two things I can think of is the spark plug being go long and fowling the piston. Or it's not completely dryed out and is still hydro locking? Sory I can't be of more help 😔

    • @devinthompson1534
      @devinthompson1534 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@rustyinspirations does it have to be completely dried out 100% because I see people poor magic oil down the spark plug hole and they can pull and start the engine. Also the spark plug being too long? What could this mean, it’s all OEM off the engine. Thanks in advance.

    • @rustyinspirations
      @rustyinspirations  11 месяцев назад +1

      If the plug is genuine, This wont be an issue. You don't want any fluid in the top of the cylinder, only vapour. What is the magic oil? Fuel?

    • @devinthompson1534
      @devinthompson1534 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@rustyinspirations the magic oil is oil technically. Something people use when they get stuck because the gears aren’t lubed or something like that. I guess when you poor it down the spark plug hole it’ll eventually loosen up the crankshaft. There’s videos on RUclips everywhere on it. So no fluid at all on the top of cylinder? So is it possible because it’s slightly wet that I can’t pull when I put spark plug in?

    • @rustyinspirations
      @rustyinspirations  11 месяцев назад +1

      Got ya😃, are they putting oil down the plug hole because the engine is seized? I have done this many times in the past also. However your engine doesn't sound to be seized as such. The fact that it turns over while the plug is out confirms this. In wondering if the little bit of oil you are putting down the plug hole is just enough to hyrolock the engine? Sorry if im not a lot of help. It can be very different diagnosing something that I can't actually look at 😂
