Everything you see i have purchased myself, this gives me complete control to voice my honest opinion about any product
Just day to day sparky videos
If you like it, that’s cool, if you don’t, that’s cool as well.
Remember, context is important, I can’t show/film every part of every test otherwise I’d still be there now😂just assume I’ve carried it out correctly
Lovely job as always! I just fitted one of those Lewden ones the other day (mostly cos thats what they had at ThomasED), I thought it was quite a bit easier for 25s than the wylex ones but i definitely would prefer two fixing screws on each terminal. Not sure why they dont all have that when they are not likely to get torque checked for a really long time if ever
Not used the Lewden before, usually the proteus or Wylex with spd.
Always good practice to fit an isolator right after the meter, then the main run of tails can be isolated rather than 5 inches before going into the CU.
It also allows for isolation of entire installation if Henley’s are installed later on in life.
The tails stripper from boddingtons is also a great time saver, strips inner and out sheath to the right lengths for meters and isolators
Had an unloop a few weeks back and the meter installer required a Proteus 100A meter isolator as they have two screws per terminal.
I like the Proteus version. Has double locking clamp fixing, but you need a hex driver.
Meter installer (from Bristol) required one
God you made hard work of that ! Connecting the tails first then fixing the enclose after 🤷🤷🤷
Don’t think I did, the design allows it and I had space & flexibility to do it
Those tails . Don’t just tighten them .tighten them ,then wriggle them then tighten again .Maybe even more than once. They always come loose if you don’t
Is this another tale of the tails?
The twat test is always performed
Nice job as always mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Lovely work, did the DNO leave 16mm tails in the head to the meter while you upgraded to 25mm?
Yeah they did🙄I did ask them and left cable but still didn’t
@@bristolsparky Guess they're lazy up and down the country then. Even when they're supposed to upgrade them they don't.
Exellent job sir😊
👍🏻
Is this a good way of retrofitting whole home SPD without a CU change?
You can buy the Wylex one with an SPD built in👍🏻
Nice work
Thanks
Are there any of those isolaters , similar in quality to iso,s. in the past with 2 screws per terminal and brass tunnel type apertures to receive the cable ?
👍🏻
Technically the main switch isolator should be in a metal amendment 3 enclosure as it is classed as switch gear and similar assembly.
Respectfully disagree
@@bristolsparkyAmendment 3 states that: 421.1.201.
Regulation 421.1.201 - Protection against thermal effects - Consumer Units
Within domestic (household) premises, consumer units and similar switchgear assemblies shall comply with BS EN 61439 3 and shall:
(i). Have their enclosures manufactured from non-combustible material, or
(ii). Be enclosed in a cabinet or enclosure constructed of non-combustible material and complying with Regulation 132.12.
NOTE 1: Ferrous metal e.g. steel is deemed to be an example of a non-combustible material.
NOTE 2:* the implementation date for this regulation is the 1st January 2016. This does not preclude compliance with this regulation prior to this date.
What the regulations mean:
Guidance from BEAMA (British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers Association) who represent the UK manufacturers. The intent of regulation 421.1.201 is considered to be, as far as is reasonably practicable, to contain any fire within the enclosure and to minimise flames from escaping, caused mainly as a result of poorly installed connections.
The following Q&A’s cover key points.
1. What is a definition of non-combustible?
There is no published definition for ‘non-combustible’ that aligns with the intent of regulation 421.1.201. Ferrous metal is deemed to be one example of a non-combustible material that meets the intent of the regulation.
2. What constitutes a ‘non-combustible enclosure’?
A non-combustible enclosure includes base, cover, door and any components e.g. hinges, covers, screws and catches, necessary to maintain fire containment. See diagram 1. Blanks and devices are contained within the non-combustible enclosure.
3 How is account taken of cable entries into a ‘non-combustible enclosure’ with respect to
containment of internal fire and escape of flames?.
Good workmanship and proper materials must be applied by the installer. The cable installation entry method shall, as far as is reasonably practicable, maintain the fire containment of the enclosure. Account shall be taken of the manufacturers instructions, if any.
4. What is meant by ‘similar switchgear assemblies’?
‘Similar switchgear assemblies’ are assemblies used for the same fundamental application as consumer units.
5. Does regulation 421.1.201 apply to consumer units and similar switchgear assemblies installed in domestic (household) garages and outbuildings?
Yes, the intent of regulation 421.1.201 is that it applies to consumer units and similar switchgear assemblies to BS EN 61439-3 inside all domestic (household) premises including their integral/attached garages and outbuildings or those in close proximity.
@@bristolsparkyOur Niceic inspector says differently he would have a field day if he saw that on one our jobs.
@@danvictor3934 oh well, if the NICEIC inspector said it, it must be true. I’ve had a dozen inspections & they all have differing opinions…
@@bristolsparky Very true the BS 7671 the Wiring Regulations and the guidance all need to be a lot clearer and more concise.
Turn the camera off and dno Toe walks in 😂
