I think one line of thought that used to prevail in the minds of people who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was to NOT share their past sins because it might send a message to some that it is OK to party now and repent later. I absolutely love how the culture and thought process has slowly changed over the years. It is invaluable to me to hear directly from people who have had these experiences. Knowledge is power and I have loved hearing all these stories the ugly parts as well as the beautiful! Each story reaffirms to me that God is aware of each one of his children and there is always hope because of the Atonement of Christ
Melanie, I wish I could do a Part 2 regarding my spiritual journey. Father was so long suffering and my Savior has made it known unto me that He was the one who literally carried me out of the darkness of addiction.
8:15 I’m so glad you continued to go to church through your addiction. I hope every addicted person knows they’re welcome and loved at church. We’re all sinners.
As I was listening to this story it began to sound really familiar and I was going to ask if his story was one of the addiction recovery stories and then he confirmed it. I’m so grateful for this podcast. Although my struggles are different and I have never left the Church I am always inspired and uplifted from these experiences. The Lord is gathering his sheep and everyone is invited. Thank you for sharing!
Holy wow! Awesome discussion! Healthy discussion like this shows that the atonement of Christ makes it so that we don't have to be ashamed of the mistakes we make, because through the atonement it is as if we didn't make them.
John, thank you SO much for sharing your story. It's beautiful to know the Lord is right there just waiting for us to make that major turn in our lives, and he will be there with open arms to help us on our way back to light.
That’s pretty amazing to have recovered from the strong opiates you both were addicted to. I became dependent on a much weaker opiate and it was hell getting off it.
Thanks for this episode! I know from my relative using drugs that addiction is awful. And I think he was more free when he was incarcerated than he is now. ❤️
these past few episodes have been amazing. I think I might pull some clips from these and share with the youth in our ward. Ashley you made some great comments too about the church being restrictive vs. drugs..
I would have never thought that he had been a skateboarder if I walked past him like he's dressed in the interview. But, what an amazing interview and story.
Here is something that you can pass on to people who make comments about how bishops don't have life experience. It blows my mind to hear something like that. My bishop in my ward has been divorced. Him and why his wife have both been divorced and are now married to each other and they know what it is like to combine families and to go through that whole experience. None of their children are interested in the church and their children are grown etc... If there is any Bishop they can relate to more people. ALOT of people like him and people like him are bishops. Because of his personal life experience, he has been an absolute blessing to so many people in our ward and can relate to them.
@@Come.Back.Podcast How is what I said "disrespectful"? I simply said Jesus has the power to help a person and save a person eternally, even if they don't ever go through a masonic temple ceremony with secret handshakes. The Jesus of the Bible tore the temple curtain and destroyed the need for an earthly priesthood. We can go to Jesus directly!

I see the light of Christ in both of you- your eyes, your faces, your countenances. Love you both!
Amen about Bishops. They have all kinds of life experience and the Mantle of the Bishop is so powerful. They have so much discernment!

Thank you so much John for sharing your story!
Absolutely, John Kinkead
I love the comment about learning by faith or by experience. 🙏

Thank you for sharing this with us, this will definitely go a long way! ❤❤❤😢

Hey it is still a miracle that you did - we love it
John (and Ashly, of course), you are so impressive to surrender to The Savior and overcome so much! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks a million for sharing!

Yes go honest 👍🏼
Just because you have a dad in your home does not mean he counsels you or does anything with you.
Not sure every young person even accepts or listens to good council even when dad is home.
Thank you so much for sharing!

A BEAUTIFUL FAITH STORY… LOVEEEED IT SOOOO MUCH🥰🤍🌸
Why is coffee so hard to kick?!! Thanks for the inspiration!!
For me, it was asking Father for help to stop drinking coffee and turning my life over to Christ.
Try an alternative like yummy dandy tea change routine, but what really works is 12step. Jesus.
Amazing.❤

If you come to Jesus, then He alone is able to sustain you. No temple ceremonies with secret handshakes required, nor kooky hats required..
Please try and refrain from being disrespectful to those who share their intimate details of their lives. - Lauren

Thats what the bishop said to you. What an awful decision from a bishop. Good greif.
What should have the bishop said or done?
@_inveterate " brother how can I help you. It's obvious there are some things going on in your life. What can I do to help." It's not rocket science.
@@jasonsnyder8341 maybe he did. we don’t know the whole story.
Ghhhhh
The Bishop was doing his best … I was responsible for my behavior.
