  • How adaptive cruise control works. Adaptive cruise control is one of the first steps in moving towards autonomous driving vehicles. It allows the vehicle to regulate speed and braking on the road to maintain a set following distance behind the vehicles ahead. This video shows how this feature works in the 2021 GMC Terrain.

Yes, it is a nifty feature and thanks for the restrictions at the end of the video. I figured this would not be good to use for nighttime driving - too dark and all the car lights. it does look a bit scary to even use throughout a town or city setting. Is the car going to stop feeling?
Is a nice feature for highway driving to auto keep distances from other cars most the time. Just have to watch out for drivers that want to cut in front of your carl and if the adaptive cruise detects that move in time to slow down.

3 and 2 car lengths is frustrating in traffic because people keep jumping into that space my vehicle jams on the brakes and I keep getting bumped back

I do not use ACC in city driving. It’s meant for highway driving. Even then when traffic stopped I can see and slow down early as opposed to hard braking.

I think what gets lost in how GM promotes this feature and a selling point to me, is. A consumer has Regular cruise control AND the adaptive cruise feature 2 separate features in one vehicle. You showed that by showing the icons 👍🏼

Thank you for the feedback Studebaker. I need to do another video or add onto this one with the new "Super Cruise" that GM has started implementing on their new vehicles.

When it comes to stop i would like to be able to set the stopping distance as well. I think it stops too close to the car ahead and that's a bit enerving. 🤣🤣

Buying a 2021 acadia. Has the pro safety package. Does this include adaptive?

    • @gmbullfrog1004

Hello MidKnight. The pro safety package does not include adaptive cruise. You want the advanced technology package to add adaptive cruise.

The other day I was on the freeway and my car (2019 Bolt ) started to accelerate I put my foot all the way down on the brake and it wouldn't slow down it kept accelerating . I was really scared it kept doing that for 15 seconds . I am wondering if maybe I accidentally turned on the adaptive cruise control or is this something more serious . The fact that I kept putting on the brake and it didn't slow down or stop was very scary . If anyone has advice, please share .

Gm tech here and many many times I’ve seen where the floor mat sticks on your gas pedal and will cause this.

Odd, I have a 2017 Denatured, but can’t get it activated. Adaptive cruise exists on 2015’s so confused why I can’t get mine turned on.

Adaptive cruise has been around for a while now but it is only AVAILABLE on certain models. The way I can tell is if the cruise control button has the adaptive cruise symbol. Also there should be buttons on your dash to adjust the following distance. If you don't have these buttons then your vehicle most likely does not have this feature

@@gmbullfrog1004 So it has the "Collison distance adjustment" button, the 3 different distances. Just seems like the adaptive is not turned on.
Actually have an appoint today with a GM specialist to check the Computer system to see if the adaptive is present.

Bought a 2020 Silverado brand new. It now has 100K miles. I will never buy another vehicle without ACC. BTW, if the ACC can't see, it will disengage with an audible and visual que.

You are right Polo. I was able to get some interstate driving done to test the Adaptive Cruise Control and it is much easier to use than in town driving. Just make sure you set your following distance appropriately to avoid breaking too hard.

I did get the pleasure to get some interstate driving to test this out and it does work much better on the interstate. I wanted to test its reactiveness in stop and go traffic to see how "reactive" it truly was.
