A lot of people here saying vile stuff about influencers. Be honest to yourself people. If you can become an influencer one day, make a living and not answer to someone like your 9 to 5 job. You will take it. Don't lie to yourself. You're not above this, you're just not lucky enough to have the opportunity. That, is what you really hate about all this.

Influencer is basically advertising firms on small scale. Do we hold Apple's marketing team for example to the same moral high ground that we do pro-Instagrammers? Many have legit discourse around influencer careers ... Others just come off as crabby they can't do the same.

I’ve got my troubles before and glad I`ve covered it with this new program and now making more than $133 daily. A few other sites didn`t work to help me get a lot of achievements inspite of the fact that getting their survey jobs can assure huge earnings. While I’m not the target audience for this, if she’s trying to keep a sense of community she should consider doing Patreon! Could be another source of income and help figure out what content she could post that’s most helpful. Also would take away some guilt for not responding to every person on Instagram. I respect her for building personal relationships. That’s what social media should be for.
I just find this so disingenuous, masking your content with sponsored content while trying to pretend you're real. At least on RUclips people make it super obvious when a video is sponsored.

When I want I'm interested in someone, it is because I appreciate what they are doing, not just want to see the life of a random person on the internet.
Anyone else feel super weird about the word "Influencer"? like, we're just out in the open that it's a job for someone to seem authentic but to be selling a product through that.
Plus, as a career it seems really short sighted. How long can you really last on a platform like that? Instagram might not even be around for when you retire, and if it is, your "fans" probably won't be. If I was ever gonna make art on the internet, I'd want it to be user supported through patreon or merch. Ads are a terrible business that corrupt the art

I can understand following people that have a certain level of skills, but it's kinda sad point of society that we started watching the lives of people living a regular live. "Here , i am drinking coffee and juice from my bed"... like seriously, you can't figure out how to drink coffer out of bed yourself? If your room is in shambles, toss all your junk away and go redecorate and you can also have a similar room.

As a marketer and someone who wrote a paper on this topic, I sincerely believe that influencer marketing is overhyped and will fall out of the scope of all businesses within the next 12-18 month. Nobody will take these influencer seriously forever and are more likely to unflollow them, if they see too many sponsored posts. Also, the work that influencer put into their materialistic and superficial life takes a lot of effort and time that needs to be compensated. Businesses tend not to understand and value it. This imbalance will lead in the long- term to that it's not going to be interesting enough to start a career as an "influencer".
However, Janea seems like a cool person and has neat pictures. I hope she finds success in her passion.

Right? Nilay explained the pivot a little bit on the Vergecast. Basically, they initially made the wrong bet on where to play their videos (“native” vs. RUclips). Along with that, they believe this Influencer/Internet Entrepreneur/Social Media Artist segment is underserved from a reporting and explainer angle so they’re looking to fill that gap.
