This took me straight back to the mid nineties and I’m grateful for every funky second of it.

This is due to so-called "cross-modal resonance."
One sound can compositionally interact with another sound, thus creating something more that the two sounds merely "added" together. Same for smells, this is what perfumers do when they use foul smelling compounds in their mix, foul smells which end up part of something that smells great. There’s a video where a guy sits on his balcony with a keyboard synth and starts accompanying a car alarm and the most brilliant thing is to witness how the annoying character of the alarm blends together with the synth sounds and what emerges is something very consonant. *You’re not hearing the alarm sound anymore,* you can’t isolate it & hear it separately ("as it is in itself") because now it’s part of an *emergent whole* which changes its nature. So compositionality is when two or more things that have their own specific nature come together to make something *"other"* than themselves, something "greater" than themselves within which each thing is modulated by the others in such a way that makes it impossible to separate & perceive independently.
And compositionality can happen cross-modally, meaning that sounds can cross-interact with colors & smells & emotions & sensations & touch & taste & thoughts. The most extreme instances of compositionallity are mostly a matter of luck. I’ve had experiences where the smell & the music & sights opened up an incredibly unique, subtle, meaningful & incommunicable spirit. I call these unique experiences "Easter eggs" and they’re opened by the precise coming together of multiple aspects that are almost impossible to recreate. Whenever I tried to revisit that location, bringing the same people, same music, same intentions, I failed. That’s because you can never precisely control the numerous aspects that interact & open that particular spirit. The "wanting" & "trying to control" themselves are aspects which interact & change the outcome. There are some that are fairly reliable tho, for instance the very particular experience I have when visiting a public pool at night. The spirit of the place is always there, but then again it could be easily destroyed by unforeseen aspects like loud people, a headache, a bad renovation work, the lack of the chlorine smell, etc.

@@raresmircea this is very interesting! I’ve had similar experiences except it’s mostly a mind thing, depending on the sound styles or genre I think about different visuals or colors it can represent. It’s only my interpretation, but it makes it more enjoyable to me. Sound selection and visual art can work together in very interesting ways

@@dannyatx Yes, it is a mind thing. There’s a poem by Rilke in which he refers to the way the human mind *metaphorically* throws a kind of lasso on to the world and brings everything together into a whole. Without being tied by the noose of conscious prehension the trees don’t have any idea that they so beautifully frame the moon. From the point of view of a three, it doesn’t even know it’s up on a mountain or down a valley, part of a small patch or a vast forest. The vase has no idea that its color goes so well with the flowers & the wall behind. It has no idea about its surroundings. The human mind is where things come together, where Nature fulfills itself. Human mind which, of course, is just a part of Nature.
There are two kinds of truth, one that’s about *facticity* & one about *disclosure.* The trouble is, when you try to look at things rationally, attempting to get at the facticity of the world, *you destroy the other kind of truth.* I don’t care how many atoms my wife & child are made of, I don’t care what exact neurotransmitters produce my feelings for them, I don’t want to know that my sense of "intimately touching my wife" actually goes on within my "parietal lobe." *What’s actually of value is how the touching discloses itself, how it appears, as a deeply meaningful thing.*
The thing with compositionality, is that it’s a product of our massively parallel *intuition.* If you start naming & tracking the elements one by one, using your serial logical *thinking,* this mode of attention will destroy the compositional whole. When I was a child, when I visited a building (hospital, museum, factory, etc) all those particular elements of architecture, furniture, smell, lighting, flows of people, etc came together into a very particular spirit of that place. If I now go with my thought-ridden mind to visit that building, analyzing each element and trying to join them within serial propositions, I won’t commune with any spirit. This destruction of meaning via rational thought is called disenchantment. What most people don’t understand is that the revelatory aspect of Existence is (apparently paradoxically) much more concrete that its factual side. The spirit of my public pool at night with which I commune (another person standing right besides me might not commune with it) is more real than any of its physical dimensions (exact lengths, heights, masses, chlorine concentration, numbers of protons & electrons, etc). What I see when I look at my wife & kids is what’s actually real, tangible & valuable. What’s indeed abstract & insipid is someone telling me that "actually, that’s just serotonin & oxytocin". I’m not denying this being the factual truth, yes that’s likely what it is (or at least part of it), but I’m definitely feeling "love", *not* "oxytocin"… Whatever "feeling oxytocin" would mean. We have been hijacked by abstraction and it’s destroying our endlessly disclosing soul & replacing it with dead facticity.
"We’re living within our abstract diagrammatic overlays instead of living within the actual world." - Mcgilchrist.
"We’re eating the nice descriptions in the menu instead of the actual hot, tasty, nourishing meal." - Watts.
So yes, it’s a mind thing. But also no… It’s real, it’s out there, it’s what’s happening, it’s what’s valuable. Existence is made out of spirits & stories, not "quarks" & "equations."

If you are referring to 03:25 I think I used a FL Studio plugin called Fruity Convolver there. There is a preset called Blur Pink that blurs everything into a pad pretty much.
