Every time i listen to this song i can't help but, laugh. At the end with the line "I've been drinking chocolate milk all day" i love how menacing he sounds when saying that. I also couldn't help but think how gross that would be lol. Not only do yall make great songs about legendary pirates and as well lesser talked about ones like the Bloody Chinese Rose but, you manage to make great songs like Queen of wails, Cabin Boy & Wine is better than water. I can tell you folks put love & soul into what you guys do. Please Do Keep up the good work!
@@TheJollyRogers you guys forgot the great pirate queen Grace O'Malley, how could you forget the lady who caused so much chaos on the sea that the queen of England had meet her in person to negotiate?
I’ve only recently discovered this crew and while I still haven’t gotten through all of their songs yet, this might be my favorite not only for the banter between verses, but because they mention a lot of famous pirates that the average person wouldn’t know besides Blackbeard, at least when it comes to real pirates. I certainly learned some new names to look up when I have the time.
Man I just can't stop listening to this song lol. Every time I listen I search up a few of the names said. One of my favorites was Israel Hands. When I heard Teach (Blackbeard) shot him, I assumed he died, but decided to look him up, and apparently he was Teach's second in command until he was accidentally shot by Teach in the knee, leaving it permanently disabled. In November 22 1718, after Teach was killed by Robert Maynard and his men, Hands was captured by them and was given a pardon in exchange for his testimonies against the North Carolina officials corrupted by Teach. He avoided being hung or killed all because Teach accidentally shot him in the knee... pretty fortunate. BTW, Hands was born in 1701, meaning he was around 17 during this time. At this age he was not only a pirate, but a captain of s ship sloop given to him by Teach after it was captured, and was then shot by Teach saving him from certain death for being a pirate captain. It's just crazy how much action you could see a such a young age in the old days isn't it?
I love you guys, so many good songs to choose from! I'd love to have see this, live, as a subscriber special! But no one has to really drink chocolate milk aaaaaaaaaaaaall daaaaaaaaay!
This song is amazing and awesome What is up with the line about the brother and slight pause who ruled the main I am a little confused Love your music Keep it up 👍
Hi Josh! The line you're talking about is actually the "Brethren" that ruled the Main. This refers to the "Brethren of the Coast" which was a group of pirates that operated as an alliance. The "Main" refers to the Spanish Main, which was a term that meant the parts of the Americas that the Spanish controlled at the time.
Great question! When we wrote this we were really just looking for as many pirates to put in this as possible to round out the more obvious and famous ones. We ended up relying on a book called The Pirate Who's Who by Philip Gosse. It essentially just lists a ton of pirates with a short biography for each. This book is in the public domain, so you can read and/or download it for free over at Project Gutenberg: www.gutenberg.org/files/19564/19564-h/19564-h.htm Captain Peter Paine brought a merchant ship into port that he had taken and, pretending to be it's owner, sold it. He was arrested in Jamaica and sent to France for punishment. Peter Painter had been a pirate, likely just among the crew, in the Carolinas but left that life and settled in Charleston.
They're not dead. I was born with the spirit of a pirate. i believe in adventure. I was technically homeless the last couple weeks. But I've got a pirate's spirit. I never worried
We sourced this song from some lists of historical pirates. Unfortunately, in many cases all they gave was a name and nothing else (we think these were members of pirate crews, rather than more notable captains). We'll take a look to see if we have anything but it may not be likely.
I require this crews opinion. For soon I am to join one myself. I feel that Mary Howling Gayle has a nice ring to it and has a few subtle meanings to it. What says you?
The cover of the album? Nope - that's exactly the same as it always has been. There's a little bit of a story behind the album cover: a while back, a friend made each of us a skull pendant that while stylistically similar were unique from one another. The cover idea was to photograph these pendants and then Photoshop the pendant part out and just leave the skulls. They're situated on the cover in the same order we usually stand on stage.
Sounded like Devin became the crew's favorite target ..again.
We take these opportunities wherever we can get them. ;)
Y’all. Are. AWSOME.
Ha!
This is the only song i know, but its so good
A really love the bit that Blackbeard got his own verse, despite being already referenced as Teach!
They referenced teach the same way they referenced Drake the second time
Theres Edward Teach then theres Blackbeard
its like the Fight Club
This was clever of the band to put it in the song, and clever of the OP (original pirate) to notice

Bonus name: Hayreddin Barbarossa

now we need a song like this for gunslingers, if anyone knows of one i'd appreciate it, this was a really fun song
While it isn't like this song, we do mention Old West outlaws in our song, Spirit Of The Outlaw:

Don't think he made this one, but he does get a mention in our song Nassau Revolution on our newest album, A Night At The Admiral Benbow Inn!

But was it based on a game? If so what the trick?
Nope, not based on a game. When it refers to the pirate "game" it basically means the pirate life.
