How is it to clean? Besides having its own heating base how does it stand up to the good old Hario gooseneck kettle? Oh, is the exterior cool to the touch? I checked Amazon and it didn't say. If it stays cool on exterior that might make it worth the price as im getting old and clumsy 😄.

  • @ajussiwannabe

My wife uses this and it appears to be well designed. The spout works well in pouring an even stream of water. One minor quibble is that the knob on the lid broke off after fours years of use. Good thing is that Fellows sells replacement parts including the lid for $5 but the mere fact you can order the lid as a replacement suggests that its construction is rather weak. In fact the knob is lightly welded to the lid at four points with each point the size of a pin prick. For nearly $150, customers expect more.

    • @Transill

As most of these reviews on kettles they fail in some way or another , a very important thing in my mind is when you set the temp to say 90 C , is it then actually 90 C thats the result. And another thing that would have been really nice to know is the selected range in temp, Is that single number or jumps in larger number , like can you choose 90 or 91 , can you choose 90 and then next setting is 90,5 C.

I think I'll just stick with my Bonavita kettle. It still has pretty much all the same features as the Stagg EKG, but it was only $50 on amazon. I don't even mind the 6 minute heat time. It still holds the right temperature once it gets there; and it's usually ready by the time I prepped my aeropress and some breakfast.
I did still REALLY want the Stagg EKG+ for the smart features; especially if I could have the kettle turn itself on in the mornings. But there's no way I'm burning _$200_ on a kettle just for that one extra feature.

It’s not worth it. The Fellow Stagg EKG is a POS. I have the same exact one as in this video and it broke after 3mo of use. The base will not heat the kettle anymore. All it did was sit on my counter. And you can audibly hear something rattling inside the base. There was also a small piece of copper laying on the base where the connection happens for the heating. I’m assuming it grounds the kettle by making contact with the wall of the inner part of the connection. What a huge disappointment for a $145.00 Kettle.

I received my Stagg EKG today. To make a long story short, it was a pretty easy decision for me to send it back immediately after a single test. And that's why:
    1. The workmanship is really substandard - that of the station, but also that of the lid.
    2. The cable cannot be rolled up in the station - absolute standard even with the cheapest quality products (I could have lived with that because I would have simply shortened the cable).
    3. Biggest minus: When pouring out, the water not only comes out of the Stagg's spout, but also out of the leaky lid. This is absolutely unacceptable for the price.
    4. The water can be poured precisely from the spout, but unfortunately only very slowly. Good for coffee and tea, too slow for everything else.

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  8 месяцев назад +4

2/4 of those complaints are user error. You are overfilling the kettle, and pouring speed is meant for pour over brewing. If you want higher flow, get the Corvo.

@@LifestyleLab_ I filled the kettle up to the "max" line. Maybe I poured too quickly, but why don't they just seal the lid?! I don't need a high pouring speed, but this one is way too slow (you would need a second kettle for French press … makes no sense). The Corvo doesn't hava a sealed lid either, right?

This is like saying “I used my driver off the tee box, why would I need a putter for the green?” You bought a tool specifically for precision pour over. It was never remotely designed to function well for French press. Research research research

@@LifestyleLab_ There are other kettles who are precise for pour over - and fast enough for french press. I in fact did some research by watching your video here - but you ddin't mention it's that slow and that it's leaking. But I agree with you: I probably should have watched James Hoffmann's video (The Best Electric Temperature Controlled Gooseneck Kettles), too.

A different reviewer who purchased one (as a true customer) returned it as he was unimpressed with the ergonomics and build quality, he felt the finish was rough and the switchgear cheap and plasticky. His verdict was that it was very over priced. Usually I am confident in your reviews but this one has the "shilling for the manufacturer" advert feel, masquerading as a review. Mentioning a Kardashian as a plus point is a low for anyone in a serious product review. This is just a paid advert with a kickback link to Amazon. Unsuscribed

Hi Stephen, sorry to hear that as I always enjoy your comments on all our videos!
Reviewers are in the end allowed to have differing opinions, and as you know, my reviews always put honestly first, whether the unit was purchased (usually the case) or provided for review.
The finishing quality on the Stagg EKG is certainly not rough... I'm not sure what that other reviewer would be referring to. Wobblyness in the temperature dial? That I can confirm is true.
If you watch to the end, you can in fact see that out final verdict is that this kettle is not worth the staggering price, but it is a lovely kettle that would make a nice gift to one's self, or a close friend if you're willing to splurge

The traditional lines on this kettle and the “less is more” simplicity of its form is deceiving. A tea kettle should serve one purpose only- boiling water. And the art of making tea or French press coffee should not be interrupted or corrupted with any technology or gimmicks.
This kettle is the ultimate anathema to the tradition of a tea kettle and the while ritualistic process of making and serving tea.

    • @LifestyleLab_

It has temperature adjustment. That’s required for making any good tea or coffee. It doesn’t ruin the ritual in any way…

      Absolutely not!
Pour over is actually one of the least expensive brewing methods. All you need is a grinder, filter papers, and a cone! There's no need to go overboard with "luxury" products like this if its not in the budget

Fellow customer service is a only reachable by email and not by phone which is a nightmare. Also they due not stand by their product once the one year warranty expires.

Your isolate experience is certainly not indicative of the quality of a kettle that is used globally in commercial settings. Sorry you got a lemon. I do agree, the dial should feel more robust for the price tag, as I believe I mention in this review

Fellow Stagg does not have a customer service number to call with problems and makes you deal with them solely by email. That is unacceptable and to me is an indication they do not stand by their product and to go elsewhere for a an electric kettle.
