  • The Stagg EKG Studio Pro features a brand new groundbreaking design. The kettle now comes in an all new - oh, wait, you’re telling me its the same kettle? Why didn’t we just sell the base separately then? Sorry, Jony Ive.

    This review fully solidified my initial thoughts when I saw the release. Why the fuck does this product exist 😂

    The only upgrades in the "Pro" are in the base and has no effect on its core functionality. I wish Fellow redesigned the kettle's spout such that it had a wider range of flow rates. If you're using the kettle exclusively for pourover brewing, it works great. However, for larger-volume full-immersion methods where you want to add all of the water as quickly as possible (e.g., a French Press or brewing tea), the kettle pours ways too slowly. My old Bonavita kettle had a much faster flow rate and arguably therefore more versatile. I know Fellow also has the wide-spout Raven, but it feels silly to own two kettles to just boil water.

      @davidhunternyc1 Год назад

      I agree. Owning two kettles is silly. I've been using a Robot and Kafatek grinder. To boil water I been using an Oxo Uplift kettle on my gas stove. I use my French Press frequently and I make a lot of Americanos. My Oxo kettle is on its last legs and I need another kettle. Boiling water over an open flame is sacred to me. For French Press, I simply don't let the water come to a boil. It's not perfect but nothing is. I know that many coffee enthusiasts swear by the Fellow Stag but I'm apprehensive. Do I really have to have everything "smart" and "connected." It gives me a headache. I'm on the fence. I don't know whether to simply get another Oxo Uplift, a Fellow Stag, or even an artisanal old-fashioned copper kettle, the Richmond kettle. Though not modern, Richmond kettles are sights to behold.

    The software updates exist so we can get wormy back at some point.
    If this supported wifi 6e it would be an easy buy.
    They should release a max edition that has a 2 litre capacity.
    Okay enough one liners about the kettle for now lol.
    Great video as always!

      Lol Wi-Fi 6E on a Kettle! 😆 5GHz support would have been a nice touch but 2.4GHz for an IoT device like that is good enough. Let's see if there is some open API or Home Assistant integration/automation of some sort in the future to control the Kettle! 😅

    I bought this in black with walnut handles for pour over coffee and like it, even if I don't particularly like the kettle's aesthetic (never have). I've had it for months, and unless you've got it right under a bright light, those fingerprints probably won't bother you alll that much. Since I don't use it daily, I also like that I can set it to boil the water first and then drop it back down to 205 F automatically for pour over. If you do opt for the black and you have hard water you may notice a white spot here and there after it dries. Since I'm in rural California farm land with very hard water, I can say even this isn't much of an issue, since I can just rub the white away with my fingertip easily when it happens from time to time. What I don't like is that the kettle is connected to Wi-Fi but every time the power goes out or daylight savings time changes YOU, not IT, will have to change the time again. (That's so 1982 with the VCR flashing 12:00 over and over.) For this premium price, and given that it's connected to Wi-Fi already, it should do this automatically. If you opt for the wood handles version you should get food grade mineral oil and apply, then rub away any excess with a paper towel once each month (per Fellow). (You can get food grade mineral oil elsewhere, but it's cheap at Target in the pharmacy section.) Bonus, this kettle makes a great no-spill watering vessel for plants in small pots. I also bought the Fellow Tally Pro scale, not so much because I love its aesthetic either or wanted a match, but solely for the Brew Asssist feature (which I love [no more need to add a couple beans or take a few away to reach a target weight]). Why the base of the kettle and the scale are two different heights side by side seems like a missed opportunity for an harmonious design match between the two, especially when the difference isn't even all that much. It would have been a slicker pairing if the bases were the same height exactly. The Tally Pro also doesn't come with any kind of mat to protect the weighing tray surface, so I'm sure over time, given that it's a textured surface, it's going to be worn here and there and not look very nice.

    Flow rate seem to be one of the complaints. So, maybe an adjustable flow restrictor and if we want to go completely crazy, we can add batteries into the kettle to hold the temp when it is off the base. Can I get these with the over the air update? 😁

    I was pretty disappointed with the EKP Pro studio. I thought it was going to have the ability to turn on remotely (essentially replace the EKG+ which is alright but the app sucks and frequently loses connection forcing a restart of it). I thought the Studio was going to have actual app functionality like set presets, remote turn on, and adjust the settings from your phone. But instead i got a pretty kettle with a useless app. I’m hoping that will change with future updates but for 250, the “quality of life” upgrade from the EKG+ were not that great

    I have a $80 electric kettle that I bought from Amazon on sale for $60. Has blutooth and wifi, all the features this one does, minus the game, hits it's targeted temps, well balanced, good gooseneck design that gives me full control over my pour. I'm sure the EKG is nice but $250 for an electric kettle? all I need a kettle to do is hit it's target temp and easy to pour. Might be worth it to some, not for me. Looks cool though... especially with wood accents.

    What if someone lives below sea level? Maybe I wanna brew some coffee by the Dead Sea? It needs to be able to hit 102/103 degrees there
    All jokes aside, it's kinda disappointing how much more expensive the pro studio is for such minor updates. IMO they could have easily had the Pro slot into the old price of the EKG and have the studio sell for $200. Otherwise some other more functional updates would have been nice. Finally, they really should look at selling a Corvo+Stagg dual set.

    I am disappointed that they didn't include the feature from the EKG+ to control and set the temperature of kettle from your phone.

    • @mathieuchampagne1949
      @mathieuchampagne1949 Год назад

      My understanding is that the EKG+ app control was based on Acaia integration over Bluetooth and they seemed to have move away from this. EKG+ look to be EoS and not showing up anymore on their website. My guess is that they decided to develop in house on a new platform & app and using Wi-Fi open up the door to much more than just Bluetooth as now these devices can connect to the cloud and likely they will get some telemetry for usage statistics and product development/improvement. This could take some time to develop the app & feature so I guess these control and more will come overtime babystep at a time. For now it look to be an early adopter period.
