I recently acquired HONDA TRX200 ATV ABANDONED, WILL IT RUN BARN FIND kinda'. Lets see what it will take to bring this First Gen ATV to life: carb rebuild, new plastics, seat repair, brakes, exhaust, grips, levers, paint, powder coat, tires, wheels and of course tuning, the list is pretty long. From trash to cash this is a diamond in the rough for sure. I can't wait to ride it!

Dad had a 84 he bought new. Sold it in 2000. I was 14 at the time and he didnt want me "trashing" it after he keep so good care of it for 16 years. Spent last 10 years looking for one. A 1984 TRX200 popped up local to me. Had just bought a 1986 trx200 sport trax days earlier so I didnt have the funds. Luckily my brother in law did and pick it up for my 10 year old nephew.
Awesome story, thanks for sharing, its memories like this that keep us going.
Got 200trx in my yard. It runs great. No idea how many miles or hours on the beast. It has been rolled 3 times and hit a tree once. Father in law traded it to .e for a electric limb trimmer and $50. Put about $600 into it. Runs really good. It does need a neutral switch, has a bypass switch at the moment but until then. It runs.
Lol,thats a deal! Good job saving another classic Honda.
Also the 85-87 fourtrax 250 have a lot of parts that interchange as well. Like front and rear plastics, front and rear racks, gas tank, gas tank cover, front bumper etc…
Thanks for shareing that's good information. Thanks
I really enjoy and appreciate the things I learn from you that can be universal on almost any machine.
Thanks Hanky. Yes sir, most of this would apply to any machine.
Hi, it's me! FIRST!
Yes you are! There's my buddy!
I love bringing old machines back to life I'm not specific on brands although my favorite is old Hondas however my last one I got running was a 1985 yamaha yfm200 that had been sitting in a barn for over 20 years it was a low hour quad runs perfectly doesn't smoke and also had close to 150 psi of compression
There is something very satisfying to hear a machine fire back up after a long nap. Thanks for watching and subscribing to the channel.

Hello I have a 1982 ATC 200e and i need a seat is there a quad seat I can use and make fit?
Hello from Canada I just found your video my best friend's dad has one of those and he has recently passed away and it's been sitting in the garage for about 10-20 years so I'm hoping to be able to get it running for the family and let them enjoy it again ty for showing me what to look for
Hi Andrew, sure thing, I'm glad to help. The family would really love that.
Nothing like a good old Honda. I’ve been looking for a nice 350d foreman I had one and now regret selling it. You can tell it ain’t been ran in awhile when u find non ethanol fuel in the carb, awesome job on finding and fixing this machine, I was thinking of converting my 200m to have rear suspension so I can’t wait to see your video of you doing the conversation!!! Your channel is doing great keep up the great work my friend!!
Right on! Thanks, the 350d is a real brute. Keep looking I am sure you will find one. Thanks for the encouragement!
Iv got to say, your videos pump me up on old Hondas every time. Pull them out of the woods and save em!
You should see what gets edited out! lol Thanks for watching, I am glad you liked it
Hahaha I can so relate to the screen door. Good times, great review on the trx I have been looking for one also to try and add the suspension to my 84 big red.
I'm thinking that would be the Ultimate Big Red. I may have to build one myself. Thanks for watching
Hey Man that looks like a pretty strong running old TRX you picked up there . I hope you decide to keep that one and fix it up . I would be nice to see some videos of a build on it in the future ,. see that has a front and rear cargo rack also , with high and low gear and reverse . that is a awesome sport utility quad.
like you say man , you aren't a guy a guy that does concorse restorations of em , you just like to build nice looking good running old useable machines , while trying to do it on a affordable budget . I hear ya brother . that is why I started watching your channel . I too , like a lot of other people am a guy on a budget . and maybe we can't have everything all time , but if we give it a try maybe
we can have something nice .
Thanks for the video
Tim from Wisconsin .
Thanks for the kind words Tim, I am not a rich man, now or when growing up, if I wanted something nice I had to build it, finding old atvs, go-carts, cars or trucks, fixing them up was the only way. Its a mind set, I see there are a lot of young people that don't have a mentor, this is me sharing what my mentors taught me. My way of paying it forward. I hope to educate, encourage and try to entertain on a budget.
Spectacular!!!! Tires holding, gears work, and no smoke, WOW. I saw your eyes light up at the thought of putting rear suspension on the atc under construction, but maybe I had a twitch. I would look at the driveline diagram and see which part numbers match and if the shorter spline would match up going into the rear end assembly. I'm Just sayin.
I have so many projects I may let this one go. But it would be awesome
@@mrcbuilds Understood, but I'd look at the parts just in case something comes up at a later date. If it won't work it will be easier to let it go and focus on another. But?
Nice job on explaining your troubleshooting!!!
Thank you. Darin. I appreciate the support
Thanks For The VideoS Brotha! Keep Them Coming
Thanks Chris, I'm glad to help
Do you have a video on valve adjustments for the 1984 trx200. I’m having a heck of a time on the rear valve. Thanks.
Best to be a little loose. Set the motor to tdc, make sure the next event is the exhaust valve begine to open, if not your 180 degrees off. Now make sure your rotor magnet is pointing up at the pickup at 12 oclock. Now loosen both valve and set then to .05 thou. Just barely not touching. This will run. Tou can make final adj. After its up and running. A .05 feeler gauge is the tool needed, i bend the end up at a 45 degree angle and 1/2 inch inward.
Well I’m back again! 😁 So I finally got the 4 wheeler to spark and it runs amazing and starts every time on the first pull but I’m curious on what could be causing the high, low, and reverse knob to be getting stuck? Also when I try to accelerate and go I keep getting this bad clunk and the quad will kinda jerk hard?? Any suggestions? 🤔
The clunk sounds like the 1 way bearing on the clutch side. Check you fluids the subtrans is oiled last its high up, it may not be engageing all the way then its wasy to pop out.
Id put a clutch in it and a new one way, change the oil and then look into the subtransmission if needed.
Really enjoy your videos. Could you please do one on a 1985 250 big red showing why the battery is not charging. Thx
Hi Heath, My first guess is the connection good(clean) ground and positive, next is there a draw on the system, like a light that is blown but still pulling the battery down. Lastly get an ohm meter and test the output of the black wire with red tracer coming out of the stator. Download the manual from www.oscarmayer.com website. verify the factory spec range for that stator. if yours is less that range, you need a new stator. I always check the easy free things first.
@@mrcbuilds Thx for the fast response!! Keep up the good work!!
I've got that same machine, bullet proof.
Yes they are Honda really knocked it out of the park on this one. Thanks for watching
I got one of these for free because it was seized up, So I got it unlocked and have compression. The only thing now is I have no spark. 😩
Awesome video as always man. Sounds good! Definitely still has some life left in it!
Never give up on a Honda. Thanks Pat!
Hello I just want to say great content I was wondering if you knew where I can get a factory carburetor For a 1987 250SX
Yes. Www223cycles.net he carry a full line of ready to go carbs as well as offers a rebuild service. Also His phone number is in the discrimination of the videos if you would rather call or email.
Ok thank you
Try hitting then fenders with a blow torch. I've seen lots of folks have great success restoring em that way
Thanks for the tip, Big Catch Outdoors!. Thanks for watching
Hahaha was gonna say, looks like 3 wheeler parts to me.
Shhhhhhhh your giving away our secrets
Just sharing the love, just sharing the love.
If you decide to use it as parts for the 3wheeler I’d be interested in the plastics. I have an 87 TRX 250 and it’s identical to it other than it has a kick for backup. I really need the fronts but would take rears as well depending on what u wanted for them. Mine is the first machine I ever owned and I’ve kept it all these years. They are def tanks and well made.
I will keep you in mind Bangs 2nd shot Garage. Not sure what will happen to it right now. Thanks for watching.
@@mrcbuilds Thanks.
Great video brother! 💪
Thank you sir.
She's a runner..💪👍👍👊😁😁
I earned that one. But she is a tank for sure
I need that seat I grabbed a running one for 200 but the seats are 150🤣 ordered a 300 fourtrax one half price hopefully can make it fit and gas tank
That machine is long gone.
@@mrcbuilds super informative videos tho man was learning a lot last night watching gonna check out some more today after work appreciate it!
It’s a beauty of a wheeler. But I gotta say a rear suspension Big Red would be cool to see.
It's a hard call for sure. It goes on the back burner for now. Just to many cool projects. I'm kinda overwhelmed. Thanks for watching.
Something was going on at Honda in 84. I’ve had 2 84 Hondas a110 and a125 both had bad transmissions
I have not had any driveline issues with 84 200cc bikes. But I will keep an eye out. Aside from the rotor springs I have considered the 84 200cc bikes bullet proof. Thanks for watching.
This is the first one I've seen with the double taillights the one I had did too
Thank for watching. Those are little tanks.
Great Video!!
Thank you sir.
Dude I thought if it ran it would've sounded like absolute dogshit considering a decent amount of water managed to find its way into the motor but as soon as it started up it sounded really strong and with a little carb tune it would've idled! Great Work
Thanks, yes it surprised me too, lol
i subbed just because of the def lepard shirt
Thank you. Rock on!
Sweet
You know where I can get a connecting boot from the air box to carb for a 86 trx 200
Ebay or a specific trx200 forum on facebook.
Can i hook up a cdi box and a toggle switch just to bypass all the wires just to see if it will run?...does this bike have to have a battery to run?
You do not need a battery to run. But be sure the 2 red wires are connected together at the battery location. And both fuses are good.
@mrcbuilds perfect, thanks..I did all that ...she runs but not very good...I took the stator coil out of an es motor I have laying around ...I'm thinking there must be a timing or compression issue
Do these need a battery to start even if I’m using the pull start??
The main 2 power wires must be connected. To complete the circuit.
A torch to that plastic will make it look brand new try it out just a propane torch
You could just make it a 3 wheeler
I am considering that.
Just bought one for 400 bucks. Just needs a rear hub and the carb cleaned. Plastics are kinda busted up, but still has the original tool kit!
They are great machines.
@mrcbuilds smokes on start up though. Any ideas?
@@retandom white or vray smoke only at startup is normally valve guides seals, run it alot and get it good and hot, then change oil and see if it helps, otherwise you would need to do a valve job and change the valve guide seals. I cover this in my top end video. I suggest getting a motorcycle vavle spring tool.
Hi Mrc is the ignition switch wires and coloring identical to the 84 200es ?
Yes, Should be, the color chart you can download cover most models from the late 60s to late 80s.
Excellent and thank you the help. I appreciate it.@@mrcbuilds
Thank you mrc and the key for a 200es i ordered was plug in play. However the keyhole on metal plate is slightly larger on the trx200 then the 200es so i had to wedge some plastic to make it a tight fit and not move.@@mrcbuilds
I just got a 84 TRX 200 and need a carb. What model do I need on 223 cycles site?
I spoke to Curtie @223cycles, he is out of stock on that carb, he is looking into how long until he can get them back in stock. Sorry for the wait, thanks for checking with him.
@@mrcbuilds thanks for checking
I found one too. Don’t ride it much at all compared to the trikes.
They have there place I guess, I stumbled onto this and 1 other early 4-wheeler, I didn't think the 3 wheeler community would mind, as long as there first OG. lol This one is basically a 200es with an extra tire
@@mrcbuilds they have the same 80s Honda style. Whoever had mine before me took the airbox off to put winch controls there:/
You can clean that plastic and make it look new !
I'm going to give it a try and see. The aftermarket plastic dosent respond like the OE plastic does. Thanks you for watching
Man. I have a 84’ atc 200es and I need to put an engine in it, the crank has like almost a half inch of play, which has ruinded my cylinder walls. Does anyone know where to find an engine, or what will fit in the frame without heavy modifications
I'd suggest send the cylinder off to g&h and having it bored out and order a new piston from them. And start there. You could buy a used cylinder and put a std. Piston it it too.
@@mrcbuildsyou don’t know of any engine that has the same mounting points I could swap in?
@@johnathondippel3749 the 200es is a one year only atc. the next closet thing is a trx200 same engine and trans, but has rear suspension and is also shaft drive.
I have a question have to same bike bought for cheap with no spark how do u no if your cdi box is bad with meter I no coil is good
Look up my no spark video, its the same as your atv. Start at the stator
Just nought. A 300 1994 for 15....
seems a little... C R I S P Y.
Shes a runner!
goody.
Wow that’s probably the worst carb I’ve seen haha
Lol, i dont know, i have one thats been run over. Lol
Hey I just sent you a message on Instagram... Try not to laugh too hard
Ok thanks
