Great video! I’m just started trying to fix up my dad’s 1983 ATC 185S from my youth that has been sitting for 15-20 years and your videos are a god send!
@@Mrcbuilds I have a couple of pictures of the Big Red I used to have 10 minutes into my off grid cabin video if you want to check it out. I used to pull a trailer with supplies. The puddles were long and deep but they had a bottom without muck. The trail was so slick when wet I carried ice studs to put on my boots if I ever had to walk out. The Big Red never let me down though. The place is built now so we about the only thing we haul in is propane and food. The place runs on solar and I built a cistern. Not having to carry water and gas makes things nice.
FYI spec for the valves is 0.003" for the intake and exhaust. Thats 3 thousandths, 0.0005" (zero point five thousandths is much too tight, basically no clearance at all. Overall great video 👍
You will need to compare the frames, there are a few differences between the the 82-83 line of 185s. I know the rear axle is different as well as the front suspension. I think they it should fit. Look up the part number for each bike, if they match then it will fit.
Another great video.... Thank you! Carburetors. My first and only experience with a Chinese carb wasn't the best. The configuration wasn't exactly the same, but I made it work. Along with the vent line being in a different location, the elbow on the slide (needle/throttle) was a different length, but I was able to utilize the original. Ok, it worked. Unfortunately, over the winter, the float leaked. It filled with fuel and all the gas drained out! I had to clean the old carb, (which is what I attempted to avoid in the first place) and the trike runs well. Is there a certain supplier/brand that you prefer or use for the carbs you buy? I've also heard that the jets may be different than factory? Anyway, I learn tons from your videos. You're my "go-to" guy. Lol
Thank you "go to guy" lol, The best carb is the factory carb hands down, but I have had good luck with the inexpensive carbs from caltric off amazon. If I can save an old carb I will. Curtie Eldridge at 223 cycles does an amazing job on original carbs. look him up on FB if you need an Original carb saved, tell him I sent you.
First download the service manual from oscar meyer website. Then check for spark Then check compression 80psi or more. Them make sure your getting fuel. Finally check your timing. Somewhere in those 4 things you will find more problems
I’ve got a 1982 185s. I want to keep the original carb- noticed you swapped out for aftermarket carb. Do you plan to clean and rebuild the old carb? Also mine doesn’t want to idle down. I’ll check the valves like you did. Thx for the informative video- excellent job.
I have had good luck cleaning the old carbs, I was pressed for time on that video, so I just through a aftermarket on it. Aftermarket carbs arnt terrible, but the factory carb is the best
Awesome video Mr. C! Very helpful!
Thank you, I appreciate it, I'm just getting started here on RUclips.
She’s a runner!! Nice job 👍
Thank you, yep she is a keeper

Thanks you Charles, I hope they help, and you can get your fathers bike up and running, that's what's it's all about. Keep them in the family.
I went back into the archives for a real treat, great vid.
Thank you that was a pretty good one. Sad to say I dont have many of those bikes anymore.
@@Mrcbuilds Man's got to know his limitations!
This is a great idea for your channel. I saw your post in Honda 3 Wheelers. I’m in! :)
Welcome aboard!, thank you I appreciate the support.
Great video .. Thx from the UK.
Thank you. It was cold that night.
Good video on basic things to check to get an engine running.
Yes, Always start with the basics
Good video. These little Hondas have their own sound
Yes it does!

We’re two of the same kind I got a bunch of 3 wheelers and a 1955 Pontiac chieftain
Welcome to the family!, its seems there's a lot of "us" out there. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.
I just traded a 96 s10 for an 83 Honda 3 wheeler. And I need help with it. Love your channel
What seems to be the issue?
Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Yup everyone says you need 3 things to run engine, and I'm like 4. You can have all 3 but without timing it won't fire or misfire
Thats right. 4 things!
Love it. Show boating on the mini
Thank you Sir. Sweet Golf Cart
Derek, watch this video to help you finish that motorbike quickly! 😁
Yes please!
Very Informative, thanks
Thanks Jeff, I am new to all this RUclips, I hope the videos help. Thanks for watching

Thank you Okie Canuck, I appreciate the feed back.
Are tires easy to mount on these trykes? Or should I have someone do it for me? mine needs three new tires.
If you dont have a machine, i suggest dropping them off at a local tire shop. Even the 2 piece wheels can be a pain getting the old tires off.
Where do you guys find these I have been looking doe a 110 or 185. And have not been able to find one that is reasonable cost
Hey Frank, all I can say is look everyday, and multiple times a day, and be ready to pounce on a deal when you find it.
I have another question, can you use an 1983 185 rear fender on an 1982 185?

Could you please tell me can I put a 200 cylinder on my 185s and use the same head?
Yes, you can use the 200 cylinder with a 200 piston on a 185s bottom end, I would use the 200 head if you can.
Thank you I was having so much trouble trying to find a piston (63mm) and rings. So I’m just going to up grand to the 200
She is a keeper!!
She really is, something about a beater bike, just a lot of fun. the 185s is a great bike, simple and easy to ride.
Hey, i know a guy who has a good sized collection of these, he said if i got 2 of them driveing,i could haveone. Any tips?
Watch the video, follow the steps. You must have spark, compression, fuel and air and timing.
@@Mrcbuilds ok, like all engines, anything in particular other than engine I should look for?
