      @carlosivanwencesaguirre9578 5 месяцев назад

      The biggest is not always the most beautiful, Royal Caribean cruises look like floating shopping centers. On the other hand, Cunard maintains its ship essence regardless of the size. The Queen Mary 2 is the most beautiful boat of all time, the only one in my opinion that surpasses the Olimpic Class and the QM 1 in aesthetics. There is another one just as beautiful but it is from a movie, Poseidon.

    She may not be the biggest or fanciest or fastest but I do have a soft spot for The Carpathia. An unremarkable ship in many ways yet it never failed to rise to challenges that were far beyond its original intent. Steaming well in excess of her maximum service speed to rush to Titanics aid, and later taking 3 torpedos and 2 hours to sink in WW1, she served with a distinction I can only admire.

    I was wondering if you would show the Iron clads from the civil war but I didn't see them. I have seen the Maersk ships in real life. because I was a Truck Driver and would see them at the ports in Seattle Washington. when I was hauling exports or cans to the ports. now I actually know how long they are. before all I knew was they were huge.
    funny thing is I still think the Lusitania, and the Queen Mary, and the Titanic, were the most beautiful ships ever produced. I can't help it I just love their streamlined look. if they had better propulsion systems they would have been very fast.

    • @josephg41
      @josephg41 2 года назад +10

      Oh they were plenty fast, even by today's standards. Also, most streamlined of all, and often forgotten, the SS United States (1951) in the video, was a ridiculously fast ship, and several of the speed records it set remain unbeaten to this day. Also, not sure why, but the ship is shown in the video the way it sits today, run down and sad looking. Wish the video would've shown it as it looked in it's prime like every other ship in the video.

      He said that the Queen Mary was used for troop transport because it so fast it was hard to torpedo. If I recall, it ran around 60 mph??
      That said, it was hit once that he knew of. There was a huge hole in the side, so they just unbalanced the ballast of the ship until the hole was clear of the water, and raced away.

    I’m glad you showed The SS Great Eastern which was an iron sail-powered, paddle wheel and screw-propelled steamship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and built by John Scott Russell & Co. at Millwall Iron Works on the River Thames, London. She was the largest ship ever built at the time of her 1858 launch, and had the capacity to carry 4,000 passengers from England to Australia without refuelling. Her length of 692 feet (211 m) was surpassed only in 1899 by the 705-foot (215 m) 17,274-gross-ton RMS Oceanic, her gross tonnage of 18,915 was only surpassed in 1901 by the 701-foot (214 m) 20,904-gross-ton RMS Celtic and her 4,000-passenger capacity was surpassed in 1913 by the 4,234-passenger SS Imperator. The vessel also had the largest set of paddle wheels. I’m proud to say that Brunel was an ancestor of mine.

    the video filmed very nicely, but it could be even better if you could put something next to the ships to show their grand scale, I'm guessing maybe something like a train would be nice, it's long and thin so it can fit the space in between the ships and also we can see it from far pretty easily.

When QM2 is gone, we will never ever see an elegant ship sail again. We will be left with those white, insanely huge, super ugly and deformed floating amusement parks that we call cruise ships.

      Aside from the fact she sank, Bradley was typical of smaller self-unloaders. Including the Cort or the Presque Isle or the Paul Tregurtha - or any of the Great Lakes 1,000-footers - might have been more representative. Though I can understand the author's intent in using the Edmund Fitzgerald; among the wider audience, most people's knowledge of Great Lakes shipping begins and ends with Lightfoot's song about the Fitz.
