    Hey man, watched all your big bear vids late last night because i was coming up this morning(october 18 2019). Started early on the north side a few hundred yards from the dam with a leader and nightcrawler. Every cast kept on catching these tiny 4-6 inch rock bass. Got tired of them after a few hours and relocated to a few hundred yards east of the red house on the north shore. Within 20 minutes i hooked into a nice rainbow. First time catching one! On corn powerbait with an 18 inch leader. Thanks so much for the tips!

    Thank you, sir! I live in LA and this is one of my go-to lakes. Are there other lakes in the LA area that you think are better (e.g. Pyramid Lake, Lake Gregory, Castaic Lake, etc.)?

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  5 лет назад +2

      Definitely go check out castaic lake really soon they just received 17000 lb of fish that's a lot of trout. It will be good there for a while. Lake Gregory has been tough I would avoid it. Big Bear or Green valley is about it for the San Bernardino mountains

    Very informative vid! You mentioned that the north shore (east of the red house) will be "good for another month". I'm going this weekend... so is it not good anymore? If so, how come? And where do you recommend I try? Thanks a bunch boss!

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  5 лет назад +1

      It will be good in certain sections because there are certain shoreline sections east of the red house that have a nice drop off still while there is an area not far from the red House toward the East that are very shallow you have to be able to read the shoreline to understand. I would think most of the North westshore is still pretty good though. I would definitely cast far with a long leader.

      Use a sliding egg sinker set up. 1/4 to 1oz egg sinkers
      Buy Gulp eggs at walmart. They also have Berkley power eggs. Get orange, yellow or White eggs. Same thing. look in their hook section for #10 or #12 Owner Mosquito hooks. IF they don't have those, buy #18 or #16 treble. Put 1 Gulp Egg on the hook spray it with Garlic spray from BANG (Also at walmart) Make sure from the swivel to the hook is about 3-4ft of line.. Use 2-4lb test. I use 2 on the reel and leader. Set drag so they can pull line, but not too fast. IF you like powerbait, just buy yellow or chartreuse. Spray that with garlic spray too. If you don't know what an egg sinker set up is, go to google, google image search it. Fish the NW Shore near the red house.. if you get there late, fish somewhere between windy point and the red house... favor toward the red house. On that big moon shaped bay near the red house, either be near the red house or or the east side of that same bay. not in the middle. Cast far, leave it when it hits the water, don't adjust line too much. Lots of crap in the water will jack up your set up. Only reel in to re-rig or if you have a fish. Have a great trip

    Great stuff here! Can you give m any advice on Mid September fishing. I imagine trout should be more active but is there a sweet spot during this time?

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  5 лет назад +1

      It all depends on morning Lows,. Fish will still be on the very west side and will not spread out to the east until the temps come down. when the Low's hit the 30s the fish will begin to be on the surface early. They won't move East until late October I would stay on the west side until then.

    • @TroutWest
      @TroutWest  5 лет назад +1

      First thing is the right gear. 6ft to 7'6" ultralight spinning rod. Daiwa Spinnmatic is the cheapest best rod. Amazon that. You need a 10,15,20 series spinning reel. 2lb line by anyone.. izorline from Bass pro is the best in 2lb. 6000 yard spool. you need a egg sinker setup for trout you can Google that and there's a lot of info on that they also called it a sliding egg sinker. Use very long leaders.. number 14,16 or 18 treble hooks. Buy some salmon peach powerbait and roll it over the hook barely covering the hook. Cast out 50-80 feet.

    • @TroutWest

      Fishing is going to be really good this fall.. for trout and bass. The water being up will ensure cooler water temps earlier. I would keep an eye on night time temps and if you see temps in the upper 30s fishing should be awesome early morning on top
