Explaning No Impact Landing! (A new smash ultimate tech)

  • A new movement option that can be done in smash ultimate. From what it looks like it's very hard for other character than the belmonts to do. But in this video I'll be covering how to execute it as well as some practical examples. Hope you enjoy.

    I found a tech for Luigi, I like to call it missle gliding.
    Soon as you run off a ledge or platform use side b and Luigi will go much farther than usual

      Everyone says this about Smash Ultimate and I never understood that mindset. "Can't wait for this to get patched out" you say about completely innocuous tech in a game where no tech as far as I know has been patched out. The closest thing to tech that was good getting patched was when Little Mac got his jab nerfed. I'm assuming this scarring from Smash 4 but I'm not sure what got nerfed that was so drastic. Even a year later people are whining. Just practice the damn tech and go 1-2 at your local instead of 0-2 people.

    It seems like, it is animation dependend. I think the game checks each time when you jump if you are on the ground or not. For some reason it does not count the jumps, so it just checks if you are airborne and it will use your doublejump. The funny thing is: if the colision is just right it rechecks on your doublejump, resets the whole animation and puts you on a platform or even the ledge. Thats why you are able to pull it off during the 2nd doublejump. Since the game does not keep track of how many times you actually jump, it keeps track if you are grounded or airborn during the input.

    It might be worth looking at videos of Project M's debug mode, which gives you the option of viewing the characters' environmental collision box. You can see the exact point on a character that determines when they land on the ground, as well as how various animations move the ECB.
    Characters that either bend their legs or do flips in their jumps tend to bring their ECB upward, while actions like attacks and air dodges can cause it to snap downwards suddenly. This allows them to snap to platforms even though they're still rising. Actually being able to see it really contextualizes it.

    I'm late on this, but I do DJL/DJC all the time with peach in melee/PM (although it's much harder in PM), It's basically just the Second animation having a little dip that touches the platform, Friggen handy to use and with peach in melee, it's the fastest way to get to the top of the platform.
    at least with any character that have dips in their first second jumps or can auto cancel their first few frames of their moves should be able to DJC/DJL or No impact Land if their animations change their orientation.

    I've done it accidentally with roy and chrom a couple times, I think. It may have been a similar-but-different kind of thing though.

    What about holding down double jump and press shield when passig through the platform. something u could do in brawl to have the same effect

    Could this be done to instantly cancel zairs if successfully performed by a character with a zair? You described the jumping animation, and I think Lucas does that too.
