Hi Nikki,I'm in Cork,Ireland, and its currently 2.25 am and you have inspired me to stay up (long) after my family have retired to bed and sleep,to clean all of downstairs in peace so that when they get up and come downstairs, they will start their day delighted with a clean, calm beautiful home to start their day, especially since my husband is working from home for the last 8 months and every little helps.lockdown is not easy but it is my God given privilege to make our lives easier, more beautiful,in any little way I can.i thank you and may God bless you, your family ,and your home.Lots of love, thanks and admiration, from Emma xxxx
Nikki, I have to say that what you say is very lovely concerning caregiving and I know it will be a great help to many. After several years of caregiving for my mother, father, brother and stepfather I began to become extremely ill. 2 out of 4 of these people were highly manipulative and controlling. My daughter tried to assist but it left her in tears, so I told her to stop. There were no other family members and church members were very busy with their own problems. What I had to do was set pretty strict boundaries which of course went over like a led balloon. I found out that to honor and love someone does not mean to do everything the way that someone expects and even demands, even family.
what made my day Nikki, was that i was so cold here in Big Bear and my husband warmed my face with his hands a placed his face next to mine. I think that was so sweet of him. I love your channel you make me feel like you are talking to me. i have no friends here to speak with and i just speak to my dad and sister only on weekends. thank you for the time you spend on your channel talking to us🙏💕🙏
Your answer re inequity in family members' responsibilities was v diplomatic !! I agree EVERY family has those few who pitch in and those who don't but still expect 'their share'. Carer burn out is a real issue - it's crucial to ask for help. Happy Birthday to Jorge's mum 🤗
What you shared about caretaker burnout was an applicable reminder for my marriage. Sometimes I wait expectantly for my husband to NOTICE that I need help, when he has already told me that he’ll always be happy to help if I ASK. 🤦♀️😉 P.S. You look the epitome of elegance in that green dress! 👌
My lovely Nikki, thank you so much for your dedication and detail for my little party I really appreciate that you and my Son worked hard for having everything ready, thank you!!
Hi Nikki! I love your hair up, so pretty. I was my mother's "helper" for several years. I was the only one who lived close to her. My sister came the last two and a half months of her life, so she and I took care of mom and took turns keeping one eye open at night. For years our brother came many weekends to spend time with mom, they were very close. But toward the end, he didn't come, and we actually needed him. I finally read into his excuses, he wasn't prepared to see our mother at that stage of her life. When he came about two weeks before her passing, he just sobbed and apologized. I knew how hard it was for him. I am thankful that our Lord and Savior took our mother Home when living became so difficult. I am grateful for these conversations you are having with us, Nikki. Thank you. Blessings to you and your household.
When caring for my mom during the last two years of her life, my two brothers and I organized a plan where we rotated weeks of being "on duty." If it was your week, you checked in, did her shopping for food, meds, whatever needed to be done. Of course, there were unexpected issues that required adjusting how we did things but this way we knew that her immediate needs were met. I liked your potluck comparison. It is true that many people simply aren't aware of what needs to be done to help.
Thank you so much for answering my question. You gave me a lot to ponder over. I really appreciated what you said, especially about not assuming everyone can clearly see what needs to happen. That must be true. Thank you again.
Amazing to see you in a stronger colour Nikki.. It looks beautiful.. Green is my favourite colour - in the right shade of course.. ;) Very wise words regarding caregiving Nikki.. It takes a very close family with great communication skills to make caring 100% successful. And for the families that struggle with "equal distribution", or members that aren't doing their share, we definitely need to express our concerns. If there's still no help from family; we need to learn to let it go and not worry ourselves sick over it. At the end of the day, their negative behaviour is their problem not ours. As a sole carer for my parents, the most important thing.. as you say.. is to balance your responsibilities... your home, your family, your self and those you care for...Prioritise time for yourself to sit still and breathe.. We have a few rose bushes in the garden... I love to pick tiny posies for little vases around the house.. I can't bear to throw them away once they've withered.. Their energy is too lovely... So I allow the petals to dry on a tray and use them for scented drawer / closet sachets... Anything left gets buried in the garden bed as compost.. Hope you had a lovely birthday gathering...Birthday Blessing to Maria.. :) Helen xx
This topic definitely touches me!! I actually fainted from exhaustion/stress caring for loved ones. I wanted to do it all but our bodies have a limit!! I learned a huge lesson that I needed to listen to my body more. I was ignoring many signals and caring all day and night for family and traveling to do it as well. It just really was too much, I have young children at home and was pushing so much. I broke bad that night and now I’m more cautious, I’m terrified of fainting again!! It was really scary for me. I was unconscious for 10 minutes.
Yes, listen to your body. It does speak to us and tells us it's time to rest. I too, learned this the hard way when I thought I was having a heart attack.
I'm so glad that you read a portion of the article! That part, in particular, was so helpful in my own caregiving journey. Thank you again for offering such wisdom for our publication. If you'd ever like to read the interview in its entirety on your channel, feel free to! I just pray that your words and example will be a blessing to others. Thank you again- we appreciate you so much!
Hi Nikki! I love your green outfit! You look beautiful! I'm catching up on your latest videos and just wanted to say I've really been enjoying your latest talks and topics. They have been very insightful ❤
"God isn't going to give you anything more than you can bear." ❤ My favorite roses are the cabbage ones. Especially cream and burgundy with some greenery.
Thank you for the encouragement. My family has been taking on the care of a toddler for my brother’s girlfriend. My brother has abandoned them and she has to work to take care of her daughter. It has put a burden on my mom, sister, and me as we have to help me throughout the week. I have found that my heart can get hardened over it at times so I appreciate the reminder that we work for the Lord and that he will give us the grace to help someone else. Thank you sister and appreciate your videos as always.
Nikki, you really have a gift of explaining and teaching others. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us! My parents and grandparents have all passed away and so I would love to be able see them and take care of them right now. Your green dress is beautiful. Are you able to share where you purchased it from? Thank you:)
Hi Nikki. I’ve always admired the fact that you take time to care for your grandparents. That’s truly remarkable. As for me, I have older siblings and have elderly parents who still are able to live on their own and are pretty self sufficient. There are times though that they do require assistance with different things and each one of the siblings including myself, assist them whenever we can if we are able or available to. I don’t believe it should be only one person caring or helping out. As a family member is able to, each should take a part in giving assistance. It all comes down to a willingness and availability. There may be circumstances where a spouse might not be in agreement. Also there might be a distance situation or work situation. It all depends on a person’s life season.
I enjoy this type of video. I would have loved to see the other arrangements of flowers. For care giving - many hands make the load light. Also, the one being cared for should be considered. If the are able to ask for that help. That can go a long way in making “those who like to show up for the potluck but don’t bring anything” step up to their important role.
What a great topic my father was diagnosed with MS when I was around 24 years old. I am now 41. I moved back home to help my father and grandmother while she was alive. I was the oldest and not married. It true Nikki about someone has to be the lead. I married now, and blessed to have some help. Thanks for the topic. I also think it would be great to read one of the topics from advice column you talked about last week, or Mrs. Manners.
Great thoughts today on caregivers. The explanation was clear and simple. I’ve been there and somewhat even now🥰 Loved your flowers from your sweet mom and the ones behind the bath on self. Thank you for taking the time to make each video 💕
Beautiful Green dress! Also love the necklace 💖love love love Rose's and trader Joe's 💐! I do the same bouquet a week to brighten my space. I miss my grandmother so much!! She passed a couple years ago and her rose garden was amazing and they smelled wonderful !! My little thing was coffee with a friend today😊
Well said, Nikki! I am in this season as well and have wondered where my siblings are in this season but I know I've honored my parents by serving them and I know I will have no regrets when this season ends. And yes, doing it all as unto the Lord keeps me going as well as my love for them. Mama passed unexpectedly in May and now I'm taking care of daddy. Thank you for this video! To all our fellow servants may Jesus give you the encouragement and strength during your time of serving!!
Great answer Nicki. Some family members feel entitled. I never thought of myself as a leader, until my daughter noticed. Leading with love is difficult for some to take. They only want followers. I need to feel at the end that God is pleased with me. Thank you!⚘

This help me so much! My parents in law have been living with us for this past 15 years. My mother in law had a stroke 8 months ago and we are taking care of her and my father in law while still working full time . Thanks goodness my husband is working from home for now because of COVID. My mother in law has 6 kids but only my husband and his sister that really involve in taking care of her . It is very hard on us and our kids but we are trying our best . I feel like others kids can do more for her but they don’t cause we are doing it or they just don’t care enough. I’m struggling sometimes but trying to stay positive and taking care of them.
It’s hard but rewarding, looking after our loved ones. I’ve moved back to my childhood home to care for my mum (97 last month) a few years ago. You & your husband are absolute champions - caring for both elders as well as working must be very demanding, & getting little help from other family members adds to it. I’m just grateful to be able to care for Mum, that she’s in her own home. And while rather forgetful & quite wobbly, she’s pretty good for her age so we’ll just enjoy the time we have together. I understand not everyone can “do what we’re doing” - if the person’s needs are too high for home are or there are other commitments it may not be possible but there are people who just can’t be bothered. They just don’t care enough so it’s easier to place their family member in a nursing home. It breaks my heart😢 to think of them. I hope you, your husband & your family have the best Christmas & New Year possible, best wishes from Australia.
Hi love that color green on you really pretty. I work my planner list and I even set a timer sometime for how long I expect to be working on the task. Blessing
I once went to look after my mother and sister(500km), they were going through rough times, my aunt called me to look into matters, but learnt a lesson , my daughter had caught jaundice, I had to catch a train back immediately, some fainting, enroute, don't know how to manage everything. Smart phones have helped me recently. It is very difficult to choose which responsibility needs immediate attention.
Great advice but I do have a question the holidays are coming do you have any advice tips on how to deal with not so nice family members besides a whole lot of Jesus lol I have struggles in this area and it is challenging and tips advice would be greatly appreciated God Bless
Dear Nikki, I'm enjoying these series. I like them because there's a bit of cleaning and your talking, so I can do my work while listening to you. My question is related to wearing dresses in winter. How would you style a dress with a coat/hat/gloves for e.g.? Would you wear tall boots? I can't decide about that. It looks a bit strange to me when I'm wearing knee length dress and ankle boots. The same goes with coats. Which length of a coat would you prefer? And how would you pair different materials? How do you take care of your nylons? Do you wash them by hand or in the washing machine? I've tried them all - cheaper and pricier, both washing and I rarely wear a pair twice because they tare apart. So frustrating!! Thank you for your love and care! Love, Ana

I have been having problems with hair loss and its just not shiny and young looking like it used to be. Any advice would help
