    I bought an Xbox controller so I could play Genshin with ease, because after some months of playing by touch screen my hands started cramping during longer sessions. I think if you already have a Switch then getting used to it is not an issue; meanwhile I returned a PS4 controller because I literally could not get used to the layout. My one gripe about the Xbox controller is that the buttons are WAY too noisy, my sister could hear it from the next room with the doors closed. What I ended up doing was to put tiny tape pieces on the buttons when I opened it to customise it.

      Oooh that’s interesting. I usually just play at home but sometimes I like playing at other places. I did think the Xbox controller buttons were loud but I didn’t have anything to compare it to. Do you feel like it’s definitely louder than it’s competition?

      @@ctran1955 Hey, I’ve only tried the PS4 controller (since switch alternatives don’t work with it) but yes the Xbox is definitely louder than the PS ones, but so much easier to use. I’ve used it for months now though and the noise has gotten better. I would suggest opening the controller and putting some sort of material between the buttons and the black plastic board they make contact with, something sticky on just one side. I’ve also read people removing the plastic buttons and swapping them for metal/steel ones!

    I was just looking for a video like this and you put one out. Great short review. I would add one thing with the Dualshock 4 (it's the only one I own, so I can't comment on the others), it only supports being paired to one device at time. So, if you use it with more than one device, say PC and iPad, or PS4 and iPad, etc, you'll have to pair it again, every time you change device. Otherwise it's a great controller.

    I've tried a few controllers with my M1 iPad Pro. I totally agree with everything you say about the Nimbus+ controller. I quite like the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller which has grips, includes rumble support, has two additional buttons on the underside, and has fully configurable profiles via an iOS app. But my all-time favorite is the Xbox Elite Series 2 wireless controller. It is expensive, but it feels very solid and is fully configurable. It comes complete with a charging case, tool kit with replaceable d-pad and analogue thumb stick caps, adjustable thumb stick tension, and a four extra triggers for the underside of the controller. The thumb sticks and triggers are very responsive and feel more precise compared with the other controllers I have used.

    To this day I don’t really get why people dislike the Xbox controllers using AA batteries. At first I was a bit thrown off, but I hope they never change this part. I love having rechargeable AA batteries so i can swap them out whenever I need to, and keep playing. I don’t have to worry about having it sit somewhere to charge or worry about the internal battery dying making the whole controller useless, or it being proprietary. I wish more things actually could use replaceable batteries now lol. 8bitdo has probably the perfect solution in their pro controllers, they include a battery pack but you can use your own batteries if it dies! Genius

      I just got the x box controller and I have the opposite gripe. I have several 3rd party controllers with internal batteries and they last weeks on a single charge and you can use them while charging. I suppose the battery life should be long enough with the x box controller, but holy heck, it make it so much heavier than any of my other controllers and I'm noticing more hand strain when I play with it. I'm hoping the battery pack I ordered for it is a lot lighter than the metal incased standard AA batteries. It's a great controller, but needing replaceable AA makes it too heavy for small arthritic hands.

    • @kamicokrolock
      @kamicokrolock Год назад +1

      @@cutiephinphinJL there is a learning curve if you go from touch to gamepad. If you go with an x box controller the on screen display should mirror the XYAB button layout. You can also remap the XYAB and right Bumper/trigger buttons in settings to what works for you. Not sure if the PS mapping shows up on mobile (it does on PC from what I've seen) but Nintendo's XYAB buttons mirror Xbox's and don't match up so I would avoid those. I didn't and I had to use stickers on the first controller I got, to match the UI. But generally it's easier to play with a controller, you just have to form the muscle memory for it.

    I see some people mentioning 8bitDo’s Pro 2 controller and I’m gonna jump in and bring my own love for this controller. It’s a nearly perfect package, using Apple mode on the controller will make your iPad see it as a DualShock 4 while paired via Bluetooth and as an Xbox controller when plugged directly into the device. If a game needs the touchpad on DualShock 4 or the change view button on Xbox controller, unfortunately it will not work. Button remapping in Apple mode is not supported, so you cannot assign the star/heart buttons to those buttons. These issues may not matter soon though as iPadOS 16 will bring Switch controller support, which the Pro 2 does very well and also has button remapping available for. Despite all of that, it’s still my favorite controller simply because it’s the only controller I need for my PC, Switch, and iPad. It is also incredibly comfortable to hold, and has excellent battery life. It can also charge from your iPad if it gets low with little cost to your device’s battery life.
    Directing my comment to you now Byte Review and not the people reading the comments, I was really happy to see that you gave a good shout out to the 8bitDo Lite and the SN30 Pro, but if I may be honest it was kind of obvious they were just the controllers you already owned and not yet upgraded yet (which is fine, they’re still good!) As for the 8bitDo Lite, there’s an upcoming Lite 2 which has thumbsticks and improved shoulder buttons in the same form factor, which I think looks very visually attractive like a Switch Lite without a screen. There is also an upcoming new “Lite SE” that does away with shoulder buttons and clickable sticks, replacing them with dedicated face buttons instead, that was designed for improved accessibility with gamers who have limited mobility in mind. Honestly…8bitDo just kinda rocks, they constantly revise and innovate on their previous controllers and I’m always paying attention to what they’re planning to do next.

    • @ctran1955
      @ctran1955 Год назад

      This is really interesting to know! I personally am interested in their Pro controller and generally they seem like a great company to support. Strange question, do you feel like the pro2 controller buttons sound particularly loud? I don’t expect it to be silent but just curious

    • @Luc_ienn
      @Luc_ienn Год назад

      @@ctran1955 I’d say slightly less loud than an OG gamecube controller’s buttons. They have a nice plunk to the press, slight click as you release. The press gives decent feedback, but they do have a bit of a press to them. They’re a bit deep, around as deep as an Xbox controller’s buttons, so not as good for rapid-fire button mashing like you’d find on PS4/5 or JoyCons if that’s something that matters to you. You can still mash well with it though (just not like, turbo-fast). Shoulders are firm but kinda mushy (in a good way) and triggers are springy. The paddles on the back click slightly, kinda like a soft mouse click.

    The Xbox controller not having a rechargeable battery is a plus to a lot of people including my self. As this was a design choice to preserve the life of the controller. Other controllers batteries will deteriorate over time leading to the forced replacement of the controller were as the Xbox controller will never have that problem since you just replace the batteries or get a battery pack online to recharge.

      The idea is great. BUT! Hear me out.
      The controller is 50$ and the battery pack is 25$, so 75$… The DualSense on the other hand is 60$. Ok that’s expensive… I might just use AA batteries. Hah, they can’t be recharged inside the controller with its USB cable! YOU HAVE TO USE AN EXTERNAL CHARGER IF U WANT TO USE REAGULAR AA‘s!
      So what’s the purpose of supporting AA‘s?
      Unfortunately this leads casual players to use DISPOSABLE batteries.
      I’m sorry, came from PS to Xbox, love it, but this point… I don’t get it… It is a half baked idea.
      Btw, I know only one PS Controller that lost a significant amount of battery life, it was my friends and he was a heavy user. Opened it with a screwdriver, replaced the battery with an aftermarket one… worked like a charm.

      I have noticed the same thing, and it affects audio for the AirPods too. I generally plug my controller into the side if I want to use my headphones, but once the battery starts to go then you have to unplug for recharging. If you have the Magic Keyboard, then you can charge and connect the controller physically at the same time, but not everyone has a $300 accessory (which I only have because I got mine at a discount, pre-owned) to make such a thing possible.

      @@Lakaizinho Still working fine on mine!

    • @Luc_ienn
      @Luc_ienn 2 года назад +1

      @@Lakaizinho I use my 8bitDo Pro 2 with my iPad Air 5 all the time, just keep in mind a couple of things. Firstly, 8bitDo claims that the controller is not compatible with iPhone or iPad, just MacOS, but that is incorrect so don’t let that dissuade you. Just put it in Mac Mode (the A marker on the toggle switch) and it works fine. Secondly, iOS/Mac mode does not allow for button configuration unfortunately but in most cases this is fine; however, there is some weirdness involved. Pairing it with your iPad with Bluetooth will interpret the device as a PS controller, while plugging it directly into the iPad will make it think it is an Xbox controller. With both modes, there isn’t an analogue on the controller for the “Touchpad” on Dualshock/sense or “Change View” button on the Xbox controllers, so if there’s a game that requires those for anything (like Genshin Impact shown in this video, which uses those to activate in-game chat and deleting items in your in-game housing) it won’t work. Also you will need to remember that the Pro 2’s button layout is ABXY “Nintendo style” and not Xbox’s mirrored ABXY layout. If you know your PS button layouts by heart then using it on Bluetooth and getting PS button icons in-game won’t be too difficult to parse.
      Some of this may not matter though, because thirdly…iOS/iPadOS 16 will be incorporating Switch controller support soon! The Switch controller output on the Pro 2 supports button remapping via PC or the mobile app, so you can assign controls to the paddles on the back and the Star/Heart buttons on the face, and I am sure that when the Switch support is added then games will incorporate support shortly after so anything needing that touchpad or change view button won’t matter after and can just use the good ol’ select button.
      To sum it up, you can get an 8bitDo Pro 2 right now and it’ll work pretty great with your M1 iPad, and in a few months with iPadOS 16 it’ll go from a 95% package to a 100% package. It’s my favorite game controller I have ever used and it’s much more affordable than first-party offerings from every game console company.

    lol xbox controllers (I have like for 4 controllers including the elite 1 and 2) are very laggy on Bluetooth, i dont know why you would recommend them.
