  • This is Part 1 of a multi part series of videos taken on July 24th 2020, from an empty coaching stock train 5Z11, 1043 Crewe DHS - Bristol Temple Meads which was run by Locomotive Services LTD. The route was via Shrewsbury - Hereford and that marvel of engineering the Severn Tunnel. There was quite an amount of in cab talking which has been muted out but there is still some very nice horn tones etc from the loco 47805. This is part one departing from Crewe Down Holding Sidings to Shrewsbury.

    Good to see some things haven't changed much in over 60 years! A few new houses, some overhead stuff going on and perhaps a new bridge or two, but Shropshire as I remember it in 1959
    seen from the footplate of the City of Truro, overnighting in Shrewsbury sheds, and courtesy of the driver Harold Bevan (my uncle) and fireman Mike - two great men of steam and sadly missed.

    Thankful to this channel as I could see the full train journey from Crewey to Shrewsbury via sacred Whitechurch

    Shrewsbury, a signal enthusiast's paradise. Fantastic to see a big station still fully semaphore-controlled, and those signal boxes are something else! Can't wait to look at the next episode.

    Thank you from New Zealand for an enthralling "first episode". Brings back great memories of my childhood near Shrewsbury particularly of train spotting at Condover. Looking forward to "episode 2"

      When I was a kid I used to watch the trains from the bridge near the quarry in bayston hill. Saw some good locos from that bridge, mainly 37s and 47s.

    I see the 45 slack is still present for Newcastle AHB. I wonder when network rail will get around to changing it to a PSR.

    Pleased to see Crewe bank loop and Signal box are still there. Harlescot crossing to Shrewsbury station was part of our gangs patch. Lots more weeds about, since I left in 1995 lol.
    Really enjoyed this, looking fwd to part 2,,, our patch stopped at the Viaduct.

    excellent thanks, amazing video quality. Have you considered taking sound track from unmanned rear cab, like the Hastings Diesel guys do, presumably with a radio mic? Wd save the editing in and out. v enjoyable vid.

    One day we are going to need to preserve these great old signals, or they will just get cut-up on the spot. Perhaps Didcot could 'plant' some of the impressive ones on one of the picnic areas, and have a 'signal park'. :-)

    You know you're in Great Britain when you find lengths of discarded rail littering the right-of-way . . . there's enough scrap steel between and beside the rails to build a line to New York, if that were possible. Nice, sharp video --- too bad about the sound having to be muted so frequently.

    • @industrialjamie5221
      @industrialjamie5221 3 года назад

      Scrap is usually in the Cess ready for collection... anything between the running rails has normally been placed strategically either by RDT or OTP for either emergency defect removal or major re-railing.

    why do you not show disused staions/juncs as you pass their site, as I check my 1947 map (by Ian Allen) as your film progress down the route. which are very enjoyable.

      Hi. It's a matter purely of available time. I do this as a hobby. Editing video is very time consuming and I have to draw a line somewhere. Also it can be fun for the viewer to try and spot them for themselves.

    Is this line controlled by in-cab signalling or some type of ETCS - there seems to be a long distance between any trackside signals?
