While I’m overall fine with this version of para, I do have an issue with the idea of hadrosaurs being fodder, which I think is portrayed in this. I would really like para to be decently capable in combat with mid tier carnivores, and it’s ability to change between quad and bipedal stances I think could give a variety of attacks that could make combat really cool and dynamic, like for example a back kick on quad which is something I’d love to see. If we want to compare hadrosaurs to cows, then sure they would probably prefer to run from predators, but if need be they will fight and they will fight hard. I do think this para will overall be viable, but please make hadrosaurs more appealing to play I don’t wanna have to expect to see one para out of 100 trexes like in legacy. And I’ll note this was nicely handled with shant and teno with their combat capabilities, just give a similar treatment to para

Again, the devs treat Para and hadrosaurs in general (besides Shant) like carnivore fodder. Paras weren't to be messed with irl due to their massive size. They shouldn't have to run from carnivores but be properly equipped to plow through mid tier packs. Herbivores always get the short end of the stick in dino media.

    2 things:
    1. Para females do not have shorter crests. Those are juveniles of a different parasaurolophus species.
    2. I really don't like this concept art. They are the size of an acro, but get mauled by an allo in allos and their own concept art, despite para being an entire 4000kg heavier. I despised this art so much I edited my own art out of my disappointment.

The concept art is good regarding clarity, it shows us how the para will be viable without making it confusing to understand it. in terms of the gameplay tho thats where i have my skepticism as well, i do agree on you there.
Implying that it has disadvantages against mid tiers and even being labelled as a 'Looker' dinosaur may not be enjoyable or best suited for para's size and specially growth time. maybe the loud roar can make a different on that but i have my doubts if im honest

@@XZaguer this art would fit Corythosaurus better. Only 4 tonnes rather than 6.8, it would make sense if it lost to an Allo, rather than para losing. Making para a looker can work, make it so it loses to sucho and Acro, but they went too far with Allo.
Showing 3 paras honk at 1 Allo makes it seem even weaker. 3 paras should be a match even for a Giga (which is why I used giga for my para concept edit)
The honk is either going to be abuse-able as well. People definitely will honk and then gang up on you.

(Big text ahead!) Another fun fact about the Para's crest is that it is also especulated to have been used for thermoregulation, liberating eccessive heat or absorving it depending on the environment's temperature, wich gave me an idea for a mechanic that I personally find very naive, I know the devs won't add this anyway but here it comes:
Body Temperature, influenced by the environment and the time of the day, it probably wouldn't be something capable of killing the dinosaur, because both Spiro and Gateway seems to not have extreme climates.
So I see it could be implemented via seasons, with of course, Winter being extremely cold, Summer being very hot, Autuum would be a little cold but only during specific day times and Spring would have the best climate: here is a little bit more detail about how each one of them could work:
Winter: probably the most dificult season to survive, small dinosaurs would have to stock food and dig them in the ground for it to be preserved, otherwise, they will have to look for rare foliage localized in specific parts of the map in the herbs case, or hunt small AI creatures (that become slightly more abundant) or other dinosaurs, and even look for carcasses in the carnivores case, omnivores would have an easier time, eating insects, dead dinosaurs and certain types of foliage. The dinosaurs with thermoregulation abilities would have an easier time doing such things but would still suffer small food and stamina debuffs, dinosaurs with no thermoregulation abilities however would need to build nest like structures with sticks, stones and dirt, smaller and more specialized animals could create such structures in burrows, protecting themselves against the cold, such season would create a new exciting challenge in paper, but I am sure that it is MUCH more challenging to code.
Spring: the most lush and beautiful seson, it is also the most abundant in food, dinosaurs could use such season to gather food for more severe seasons, with smaller dinosaurs being able to create small holes stock food in it, preserving it for long periods of time, while medium and big dinosaurs would need to acumulate fat in order to survive the winter specifically, at a huge cost of stamina and speed.
Summer: while less severe than the winter, still presents a challenge to players, with small rivers and lakes disappearing and the map becoming hotter, with dehydration becoming a serious matter, this season encourages players to search for food and water for great distances with foliage being rare and herbivores having to travel big distances to search for their nutrient rich plants, while medium and big carnivores follow the same in search of prey, small dinosaurs would have a choice to make, either utilize their stocked food or get more creative with their food sources, swimming, wallowing in mud and having a full water bar could provide good protection against the heat.
Auutum: being a transition season between the Summer and the Winter, the cold increases significantly over time, with players that were not able to gather food during earlier seasons having few time to build nests, burrows and stock as much food as they can before the winter comes.
Jesus, this text was pretty big for my standards, I think it is a pretty naive idea, and honestly I doubt people would like the idea, but I honestly see this mechanic actually giving a reason to play as small dinosaurs aside from their speed: their low food cost in comparison to bigger dinosaurs, this also would create new challenges for the players other than worrying solely about getting eaten by big carnivores.
I would love to see anyone give any suggestion on how such mechanic could be improved (or if it would be viable at all 😂).

  • @StelloTyrannus

There really isn’t much proof if sexual dimorphism in Parasaurolophus. While this genus is known with crests of different lengths and curvature, these shapes have a distinct distribution which would suggest different species, with longer crested species like P. walkeri being found in Alberta, and a shorter crested species called P. cirtocrystasus in New Mexico and Utah.

IIRC, our biggest Para fossil comes from P. Cirto, and it has a straight crest unlike the significantly smaller specimens we're used to finding. Due to this, I believe the lead theory is that the smaller and more curved crest is actually a trait of juvenile parasaurs, being the transitional phase between the crestless babies and the long-crested adults.
Making hadrosaurs yet another family of cretaceous herbivores that go through some serious face-lifts (Pun intended) throughout their life cycle, alongside Pachycephalosaurids and Ceratopsians.

I think that the shout would be like a flashbang where your screen would be blurry beyond recognition where silhouettes are barely recognisable and you would only hear ringing for a couple of seconds like maybe 10-15 sec. Now you would think that that won't do anything against a lone predator but if a group of predators where to get flashbang they are more likely to hit each other meanwhile the para could just run away in the chaos. lone Dino's who wouldn't be affected that much wouldn't be likely to challenge a para except if it's an apex and you know that apex would be either solo or duo since the difficulty of them will be bump up exponentially. It would be a great retreat for threats that they couldn't face and a great offence against threats that is manageable like a lone allo
Edit: this could be a counter against large op apex herds since the mega roar should be indiscriminate and will affect everything in the vicinity including ally herb except for the one who roars it and other para

If I'm interpreting this correctly, I think the only thing I'd change about the Para is let a skilled player hold their own against small packs of mid-tiers. Squashing small carnis and running from apexes makes enough sense, but if the player knows what they're doing, they should be able to make a trio of Allos or Ceratos think twice.

It would make it really hard to pin down a para when they do it, but wouldn't stop you from running way from the para. The para would realistically be pretty dangerous though, people forget that herbivores are often more dangerous than carnivores in the modern day and I fail to see how dinosaurs would be different.

I recently watched an interesting documentary about the dinosaurs of this family and it's sad to treat them like cows of the old world. Each of the representatives of this family grew to enormous sizes in the struggle for survival against the predators of their era. They were huge herbivorous reptiles and despite the lack of any more advanced defense mechanisms such as claws, sharp teeth, carapace, they were still alive. I really hope that in addition to the curiosities you have presented to us, Para itself will have something more in it, such as Tananto! O has 4 attack types at the moment and is otherwise a well-balanced herbivore, although some still think it's too op.
The very idea of stun using his voice is brilliant, and using the forelegs to defend against smaller tiers is wonderful but what next? At the sight of Carno/Allo/Cerato will he run away where the fuck grows? It's giants I imagine such a giant running at a charging Carno taking him down, accidentally crushing him with his massive hind legs or hitting Allo with his massive tail in the side knocking him over. I don't think in Evrime there will be anything like skills like in Path of Titans, so I don't have anything to say about some buffs, maybe someday. We can't wait to see him in the game :)

hope it will be that para can fight mid tiers easy, but it have to use that roar to escape from apexes since it cant fight those that easy, so the roar would be used when facing apexes and when facing mid tiers then its fully capable of defending itself. for me personally i think its a little bit weak of what we have seen in the concept art. Para is one of my favorite herbivores in the dinosaur world and its such a shame to see it being that weak compared to its size.

personally I m not happy with para runing style even today herbivores not runing mostly they do attack aspecially in paras case I wanna be able to demolish a allo in 1v1 para is litterly twice the size think like u are a 1.80 heigth man that weigths 80 kilo would u run from a kid thats 90cm tall and 40 kilo ? just cuz they have knife? just run towards them god damn it they will die from trample I m so dissappointed about the "pahtetic hadrosaur" setoritype make para only ai at this point noone will play it if it cant even defend itself against allo
