This is sad news. I started learning about stamping, scrapbooking, and card making with Close to my heart, and StampinUp!, then quickly was a StampinUp! Demonstrator. I didn't even know about you tube back then or I would have started a channel. I still use and create with all of my products. What you said about it not being the company for your customers, but that they like you, is so true. I hope your listeners that this has affected really hear that. 💙

Well said! I see so many people saying they have their own business, and the business is an MLM. These people in MLMs have no say in products, pricing, or company operations. When the MLM flops, these "business owners" lose "their business" too.

    • @gingersutton8240
      @gingersutton8240 10 месяцев назад +7

Not only that an MLM has to purchase all their products to start their business not unusual, but the fact that the company depends on those MLM’s that don’t make it for a big chunk of their income is telling.
My daughter chose two different times to be at MLM worked her butt off and it just never paid for the product that she purchased . it takes a long time or a lot of good luck or a tremendous sales person with savvy to get it going, The bills need to be paid!!
We researched MLMs & the truth just might help make good decisions.

OMG! I just realized you are the Tanner that I followed years ago when you were a little boy and Emma with My Creative time introduced your talent to our craft community. I have taken a hiatus from crafting but am now back after many life changes, and it was such a comfort to see a happy part of my “past” crafting life. It is ironic that at the end of CTMH, I am starting to craft again, and you are a part of my happy crafty journey! You have no idea how happy my heart is to have found you again❤❤❤ SQUEEE 🎉

The sad part is the quality of their stamps and papers will leave a gap in the scrapbooking world.I have a video up on my RUclips with some faq’s that we know right now. It is time to pivot to an open up as well.

I am a customer of both CTMH and SU. I find SU stamp and cardstock paper to be excellent compared to anyone else other than Tim Holtz. His quality is to tops. But CTMH has lesser quality but their scrapbooking kits and style of paper were wonderful. So for me it was about style with CTMH not quality.

I was with CTMH for 6 years and I love the creativity it gave to my life. However, I never made the connections needed to have a successful income. Now I see how much competition there is in the scrapbooking/card making business, it's crazy! So although sad at it's passing, I'm not all that surprised. Here's to awesome crafting!

  • @gerriebell2128

Tanner, good advice! My ice skating teacher long ago used to say, “ if you are not ever falling down, you aren’t learning anything.” So yes, people should not just give up. Personally, I would advise people to “diversify”. Or, “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” And think outside the box. This industry is very competitive, supplies are getting expensive, and as inflation/employment issues increase, people are changing their priorities in their budgets and crafting falls further down the “list”. I DO think there will always be “crafting”, but it will change as peoples’ needs change, as far as “what to make”. So maybe learn to make your own classes, learn how to make different things and teach those things, and maybe find/sell a different category of supplies for a different kind of project. I love your expression of “making your business on rented land.” I would tell even people who right now have a thriving business the same things. Society is changing, the economy is changing, and therefore businesses and business models need to change. If you are a praying person, ask God to give you wisdom and guidance in figuring out what to do. Jesus said that God even knows when a baby bird falls out of a nest, which means He is VERY aware of circumstances in and around your business and life. And since Jesus said He will provide what you need, it is NOT silly to ask for help with your craft-related business. If you aren’t a praying person, research a lot, and ask advice from people you know that have any kind of business, cuz many principles are the same no matter what the product or service is. Think positive!
    Wishing everyone the best!

Tanner, thank you for being so supportive and caring for others in the crafting world. I was not affected by this change but my heart hurts for those whose life have been impacted.
Even though the CTMH news doesn’t affect me, your words had a huge effect. Tuesday I closed a business that I started 25 years ago. But your words helped me see that I still have a future, it just looks different. I can start anew and make my future look the way I want it to.
I am so sorry for the owner and employees and hope that they find comfort, guidance, and can see a future shining through the pain.
I look forward to your workshop. If you’re taking suggestions for future workshops, I know I am not the only one who needs help getting a RUclips channel going. Sure, there are videos by others but I would love to have guidance from a trusted friend.

Thank you Tanner for this video. You are so kind hearted and giving. When I started scrapbooking many years ago Creative Memories was all that was out there. Then Scrapbooking stores opened, oh how I wanted to open one, but my kids were small and I didn't have a great support system at home. Then they too closed. Close To My Heart came along and I LOVED their products, I still do. I actually became a rep for a short time. So they are near and dear to me. Scrapbooking has changed so much since those days 10-15 years ago. I stepped away from crafting sadly due to several life changes but I'm now back and have devoured your site and some others. I love my Cricut and have been using her like crazy these days( I am currently making my daughter's wedding invitations). I thank you for the kind words in this video and all the videos you and your AMAZING team produce. I do dream of maybe one day having a business but that's not today. I look forward to all the great things you do and share. Humbly, I thank you.

Some big doors are going to open. I have been a crafter for many years and have just started participating in some things and letting my cards be shared on RUclips. I did have and still have a fear at times that my cards will not be liked, but other crafters liked the handful that was shared on a couple of channels. I am proud of myself and will never stop making cards/crafting. Sending more blessings...

Thanks for offering up a positive take on this, the makers I've seen are all feeling the same thing, shocked and saddened by this news BUT they have rallied, they aren't giving up their creative journeys, they are staying tied to the communities they have built. I totally agree that in time they will be grateful that they had to pivot and grow and shift and build their businesses in other ways. Thanks for making this video, I think it's super helpful in such a time as this.

😢OMG, I lost my house in 1993 during hurricane Andrew, it was so bad, but days later walking around talking to neighbors we all kept finding pictures, it made thing even worse, and a lady showed up with boxes and said everyone put all the pixs you find in here, and we'll all did, it was odd because the Army base had also placed guards at the entrance of our community since, yes people kept coming in to steal, but she got in?, ment to be. She was a CTMH rep, and she and her team put all the pictures we all gave her in some kind of solution and then put them to dry, and hung them on lines she set up at the area the Red cross set up to feed us, and so many people got there memories back, years later I was in MO. And become a rep for CTMH, for a good 6yrs, then had to go back to work full-time, but I truly felt blessed for what that lady did, and for CTMH for the fun times I have crafting with them...

I have loved CTMH for so many years . I was a maker with them for several years and only quit because I was busy with high school kids. When something like this happens I always double check my inventory of crafting supplies and tools. I have been crafting and scrapbooking since 1998 and I bought my first Cricut before they even had them on the market in 2006. When something in the crafting world closes its doors my first thought is… “What if Cricut goes out?” I am a what if girl and I have 4 Cricut expressions and all of my 300+ cartridges safe and sound in case of emergencies. I will say the current all digital system is much better, but I would not know what to do without a Cricut.
As for CTMH, I am sad and feel like I lost a dear friend. No one makes scrapbook page protectors even close to the quality they have.

I went more into the Tim Holtz grunge and 49 & Market papers. I once sent a letter to SU and asked them if they were going to include other types of stamping and never heard a thing from them. As a Team Leader with CTMH, I am heartbroken-for myself & for my team. Waiting for LOTS of details from the ongoing negotiations between CTMH & Stampin Up. I’m especially waiting because I am primarily a 12x12” scrapbooker & SU currently doesn’t do 12x12 scrapping as one of their primary offerings.
B4 I joined CTMH, I owned my own scrapbook store. Due to health issues, I could no longer keep up with running that business. So I went with CTMH over 8 years ago & let CTMH do all the heavy lifting in the background, while I just crafted & taught-& teaching is & will forever be my true love.
I’m in the wait & see stage of my shock & heartbreak right now & I not only have to consider what’s ultimately best for me at this time of my life, dealing with my multiple health issues, but I also have to take into account what’s going to be best for my Team💔.

My sister is a SU demonstrator, I buy from her all the time and the majority of the paper I buy is 12x12, not sure how you think that isn't doing 12x12 scrapbooking.

    • @GlendasCreativePlace
      @GlendasCreativePlace 10 месяцев назад

@@kittikins1Because SU doesn’t currently have a primary focus on scrapbooking. It’s not a premier product for them FYI. Having 12x12 paper doesn’t equal a primary focus on scrapbooking. CTMH has Scrapbooking Workshops for all their product lines. That’s a big difference.

@@T_M_H_Yes I’ve heard that SU is trying to get customers to set up their own accounts, so they can order WITHOUT going thru an SU Demonstator. That is quite worrisome.

It takes more than just paper. I won’t buy SU products due to their founders daughter on trial for murdering her ex husband. Sheri Gardner the founder is not allowing her grandchildren to see their siblings. There is a serious problem in that company. I have sold all of my SU products and I have seen on my area tons of SU products in thrift stores recently. There is a serious moral and ethical problem with this company. Their prices are way out of line and now Temu is offering their stamps and die cuts for Pennie’s on the dollar. Stick with companies like Tanners as he will never just stop doing his job because he loves it, loves his family, and most importantly loves his customers. Pay attention to companies that are good and are morally and ethically strong . That is why that company was around for 40 years. I really hope they do not merge with SU because I believe their days are numbered as they are not a good moral company. Blessings and continued success Tanner and staff. PLEASE continue to support companies like Tanner and take his advice and bet on yourself like he says and you will always be able to keep crafting even when other companies close. This will not be the last company to close so you will still be able to create.

It breaks my heart....I was a consultant for CTMH for some time. I LOVE their products, I simply couldn't keep up with their sales requirements at that time. I do hope that they collaborate with someone. I had hoped to join up with them again when I'm able to retire. I'm SUPER SAD to hear this sad news!

I happen across the video and this is happening on many levels to creators. I am a candlemaker and we are losing companies as well. Many are questioning WHY? The answer can be any things however the role of cheap money lending ending, tightening credit lines which many companies use to fund operations and a tough economy are certainly playing a role. No later what type of creator you are be prepared as much as you can for unexpected closures this year.

Walmart and Amazon just don't do it. I hope this isn't a trend that's going too spread across other crafts.

Thank you for sharing. I have a fb friend who posted about this the other CTMH is the 4th company she has been with that has closed. I might one day take some of these steps to make something like this a side gig. Currently my day job. Is facing an unsure future and really need to have a fall back. I have been hesitant to do this as crafting has always been my release. I have been told you should sell your creations and I have done a fair or 2 but have always said if I did that it would become work and I would be afraid that I wouldn't have the same enjoyment.

The aggression to a stranger for trying to genuinely learn about whats going on, be better. The main thing your missing is to be the change you want to see, not barking at other people who dont know what you learned. This is already so emotional, youll need to tame your hostility around here. For real. Were all climbing our own mountains.

I don’t see this as a decline in the industry, but rather the decline in MLM. SU is so much more money than CTMH. I think that the MLM business model is not working like it used to. Especially since there are many other companies to choose from.

Advice from a seasoned MLM person, however, it was years ago, Avoid MLM companies. I started with Amway and went from there. I'm sorry to whoever likes MLMs, I have done them for many years starting in the 90s and so on. This was driven by my mother at the time. Personally, I don't like them even though I made money doing them. They can be quite hard and getting people to join can be a pain. Long Hours too. Use the resources & advice that you are being given by Tanner. Good Luck.

I also have a RUclips channel that I am building where I teach people scrapbooking. Makers will be transitioning over to Stampin Up. I watched some videos and realized that I would have to change out all my inks and stamps if I go with Stampin up. I have been with CTMH for 16 years and have quite a collection of papers and stamps. I like your suggestion for teaming up with affiliates. think this is something that I would like.

Most of the things I do now are all digital down loads, with companies such as creative fabrica, cricut, Canva. And Makers gonna learn to name a few.

We also have to keep in mind that yes during covid crafting went through a big boom! this was great but at the same time
companies took advantage of this and heavily increased prices on everything. It became ridiculous for those that were crafting way before covid. We saw how everything went greedy! After everyone went back to work as normal.....it crashed! but the prices stayed. For these reasons it started making it unaffordable to keep crafting. Back in the day everything was cheaper to make from scratch which gave the purpose and ambition to create. Now it cost more to make then to just buy ready made.
It's unfortunate but until they go back to making crafting affordable again it will keep crashing down.
Its also unfortunate that Cricut has killed their design space. that made so many changes and no many upgrades its not even
enjoyable anymore. I canceled my subscription with them. I'm even thinking of selling everything Cricut! they as well went crazy with their prices. i dont like to be taken advantage of. This is my personal opinion.
