I don't buy it feeling different. In your recordings, the 432hz versions are recorded with more top end and brightness. This might be because of where you were positioned in the room, and where the mic was positioned relative to you. The result is the 432hz version sounds and feels better, and more intimate, because it doesn't sound nearly as dark as the 440hz version.
However, this is no product of the tuning, rather the method of recording, and inconsistencies in keeping both recording methods identical. The difference in brightness is especially apparent in the last clip.
All that being said, you are an amazing player!

  • @achristine80

I can honestly say, playing electric guitar in 432 is useless. I've tried...and yes, got bandmates to "play-along" (pun intended). Electric music has no subtleness. Acoustically? It is very subtle... but after 50 years of playing guitar, you do hear/feel it! The difference being less tension (pun not intended). And a more relaxed feel and loose, rich, rhythmic vibration. And after playing 432 for a while, you will actually play in the timing of those "natural" vibrations/waveforms the frequency produces! That is the best way I can explain it. Great playing and honest review!

And you play the guitar very well, and the songs are great and I really like them! Thank you very much!

I closed my eyes. I have been scrutinizing musical tone intensively. literally all my life since the womb (my mother played music for me there). Hearing this the 432 sounds more like music sounded to me as a child. Somewhat more comforting and familiar. Whereas the 440 notes seem to be separate, each standing alone brightly, the 432 notes seem to connect together, harmonize better, yielding a warmer more comforting tonal quality. My judgement that I will definitely prefer to tune at 432, especially for classical pieces. The 440 seems brighter and more artificial bordering on exaggeration. I am definitely more comforted by the 432.

What sounds deeper to some may
sound flabby to others. My friends
who tune steel string guitars low
get a deeper bass (and buzzes) but
    a very tinny b string. I had an 1823
    Guadagnini guitar that returned to
430 no matter how I tuned It but all
my other instruments (1923 to 83)
sound right at 440 (lower muddy,
higher shrill). My 100 year old uke
stays a little lower which fits my baritone voice so I don't argue with

I am so often in life reminded of that picture where blind people (us) stand around an elephant, everyone touching a different part of the animal like tail, toe, tooth, belly, and everyone claims they know just WHAT an elephant IS ... I mean, they FEEL it, they can DESCRIBE it, and after all, it's REALLY THERE :) When we argue in whatever direction about the Hertz thing, it makes me laugh and think of this wise little story. Who taught us to always compete and want to be right about what is "true"? Why don't we just accept that one gets sick when listening to what makes another one feel good? There might be only one truth in the end, but, man --- we're ages away from the end :DDD --------- One of my favourites about the subject, by the way, funny making :)

In this case, without being a musician I would say 440 hz sounds more "strangled" or forced... clearly if there was no immediate comparaison, to the untrained ear there is no difference but since you put both together I think I go for the 432 hz myself. I enjoyed the video. thanks.

Look into cymatics. People do experiments with things like sand on top of speakers, and certain frequencies will generate shapes. Those frequencies all line up numerically with the 432Hz scale. They do not line up with the 440Hz one. In fact, the 440Hz scale is precisely half a step away from the 432Hz one, so it is literally as far as you can get from all those geometric shapes being made. That's something powerful.

I do believe the fact some songs were written and played with 440hz as their standard tuning would ultimately effect the transition into 432hz. It makes sense if you play a song in 432hz and it sounding bad but reverting it to its original 440hz it sounds good again.

    • @paulmerritt2484

Nope it's just what you are used to. Mathematically 432 is more perfect and more in tune. The numbers line up evenly and the hz or the notes actually harmonies perfectly while 440 will always sound out of tune as it is out of tune. There will always be more resonance tuned to 432. Notes will ring out longer and 440 actually can cause emotional upset. 432 has always been the standard. 440 was given to us pre war by our enemies to help weaken us and make us miserable. We have no idea the things in life that have been taken from us.

Very nice comparison. It's mythology and your exercise was a nice showcase for that. Standard music sounds fine in 440. In my band, we downtune 1 semitone to 432 (a flat) to accommodate the singer, which works out nicely. Also, heavier music sounds a bit darker in that tuning as well. I had a new age musician try to explain why 432 matters, much like you described. It's bunk. Use what works for you and make music that pleases you.
Thanx again for the comparison, it was useful!

That's because this is what we are used to. If you'd been listening to 432 your whole life and someone shoved 440 in front of you, you would have the same reaction.
I can only imagine what people in the 50s must have felt when everything changed on them...
As for me, my guitar sounds brighter, it has more sustain, and it now has more harmonics that are more intense. I've been playing guitar for 20yrs, I've never had a "natural" harmonic anywhere but but frets 5, 7 and 12. After tuning to 432, I now have them at 4 and 9 as well - and the harmonic at 4 is louder than the one at at 5. It's kinda crazy.
I'm going to try it like this for a bit and see what happens...
You need a break in period with things like this. Although, good luck finding enough music to listen to I'm the 432 range...

Bam. Ya nailed it. The whole narrative of 432 vs 440 is mostly just another mind screw. Tune to 437 if ya want. If you can play it will sound good about wherever the instrument can effectively hold and maintain that tuning. Not only that, but a trained vocalist may be quite at odds with variables outside of their training in 440 all these years.
In closing- be really careful in what one “believes” in while in this realm. It manifests good potentials and exact opposite. Trust in you and your ear. If it sounds good to you- do it

I dont think it's that noticeable until it hits a certain decible. Let's say that 432 sounded a bit mute than 440. At a higher decible of volume 432, would be more comfortable to hear. If 440 is more crisp and bright than 432, at higher decible of volume 440 would be too sharp and piercing for comfortable audio registry.

Wow I noticed a difference. The lower frequency produced a richer sound.

    • @ArnoWalter

It does feel slightly richer in comparison. Might be a string instrument thing, don't think it works for percussion. But my Chakra was unchanged and the coffee tastes the same ;-)
But I knew before that some orchestras use their own pitch. Common range is from 431 to 446 Hz.

Did you play each pieces in the same BPM? Because I ear more time effect compaction as a charm, tint it older

They sound about the same. And rememeber that when listening to an orchestral piece of music your ear is listening
to a huge spectrum of piches!
About a third of a semitone doesn't make much of a difference. Tuning has differed a lot over the ages.
A more convincing argument would be comparing the advantages of well or unequal temperament versus equal temperament.

Aye boss this is just a thought, I feel like you expect that the avg listener recognizes any of these classical songs? I mean there's key and time signature changes every other measure and the melodies aren't memorable... Why not play something where people don't have to listen so much to the melody and then try to remember what both sounded like post-listening, something simple and easily recognizable. I mean throw 1 classical in there I guess cause that would promote your style or w/e you wanna call it but yeah I have an alto clef tattoo on my arm and I was paying too much attention to the song and not its fundamental frequency, just a thought tho

Sound great but i can tell one could inspire more postive and etroverted emotions while the other is more introverted and introspective. Thats what my mind and body were telling me.
