      You make it sound like standard procedure for drummers to tune their instrument by Hz, but it's really not. Even roughly tuning by notes is somewhat uncommon. Most people just tune to a pitch where the combination of shell and head sounds good and harmonizes with the rest of the kit.

    One of the best tests is to take a tone generator and listen to A at 440 vs 432. The A tone at 432 sounds softer and a bit wider. The A at 440 sounds tighter and harsher. Don't base it on spiritual stuff, base it on what the sound physically feels and sounds like

    Definitely the best examination of this subject I have so far seen. Having pitch shifted a few of my favourite songs down to A=432Hz a while ago, to see how they sound compared with the original tuning, I must admit I do prefer some of them at the altered frequencies. However, this is because the slightly lower pitch can make the music sound less harsh on the ear and have a nicer tonality. Or, as you mentioned, perhaps there is just a placebo effect.

It has never come out in the range that would sync up with 440 but always falls in alignment, or in tune with 432. I've also done this with recorded whale sounds with the same result. I'm not totally sure what this means, but it's interesting.

      Yes. Sounds of Nature herself! God definitely made the world the way it is. It's actually kind of scary the way certain types (both musician and non) get completely trigged and hostile at the idea of tuning to A-432 Scientifc Tuning. Yet tthey even use C-256 and A-432 tuning forks a the doctors office to test nerve responses and such. Again, God made things the way they are. The fact that there is such a dogmatic resistance to this is almost . . . Evil.

    • @kbproweb
      @kbproweb 7 месяцев назад

      I've had some people resist simply because they don't want the hassle of having to deal with changing the tuning they use to create music. They call it nonsense so they don't have to deal with it. It is a hassle if you're working with other musicians, so that's understandable, but to actually get angry about it? What's that all about?

    • @keyboardtek
      @keyboardtek 2 месяца назад

      How do you get a bird to hold an A432 pitch for you to tune to?

    • @kbproweb
      @kbproweb 2 месяца назад +1

      @@keyboardtekThat's funny, lol. I could think of several sarcastic responses, but will restrain myself.
      What you are trying to do is to get one string to harmonize with the dominant bird song. This might be difficult if you don't have a good ear, but anyone who is an experienced musician will likely understand. If you start with your guitar in 440 you will likely end up close to either 432 or 444, depending on if you tune up or down.
      What I did, in all three attempts, was detune flat, well below 440, and then tuned up one string until I felt it to be in harmony with the bird song. Each time it was in sink with 432 inside a 12 frequency range. For example, one time it came out at 420 which is in harmony with 432 and 444. You could end up at 412 or 456 or any variant of 12, but if you have the same results they will fall within those ranges. I never ended on any variant of 440. Hope that makes it clearer.

    For me, all I'm noticing is that 432 sounds more exactly on key, while 440 is sort of between keys a little bit. There was something I always liked about songs being slightly out of tune, maybe a kind of other-worldliness.

    Hey Steve, I love it when you said I lied! That was really sweet. In the 60s we can find recordings by Led Zeppelin and other famous bands not tuned exactly to 440. In the 70s when sound engineers were mastering popular music in the Los Angeles area - sometimes they would speed up a recording just a little bit to raise the pitch - which also sped up the song a tiny bit - they felt that this technique helped the songs to stand out from others that were being mastered at regular tuning - whatever that was at the time.

      Another studio trick was to record the instrumental track at 440hz. Then slow it down some 30 cents and let the singer record at this lower easier pitch and then speed up the vocal track to match the 440hz instrumental track. The effect is obvious when you now what to listen for. Madonnas 80s stuff sound manipulated this way. The 32 cents detune (432hz) from 440hz prevents early register shift for many voices. This effect was demonstrated by some famous opera singers in the 80s

    If anyone's interested in this subject, or alternate tunings, I would suggest researching scientific tuning and the reasoning behind it.
    Also, regardless of tunings, there is a problem with experiments of this precise type that seem to be flooding RUclips. The problem is that the human ears adapt too readily to alternate tunings and which ever song is played next will either sound sharp or flat as a result of the expected measure. To truly test any merit to the 432 hz tuning, you would have to look at things completely differently. Sound amplification, wave visualizations, and how an instrument holds up to the strains of the different Hertz throughout time are just a few things to consider.
    Perceptions are subject to Placebo effects, as you mentioned. It's no wonder why you came into this experiment and left with the same biase, given the method of experimentation.
    I don't prescribe to any specific tuning, nor suggest that someone get stuck in one, but I hate the scienceless biases that everyone seems satisfied with. It's as one sided as someone offering nothing on why it's better and saying everyone should switch...which I've seen plenty of that as well. Bah, this world

      It´s called comfort zone and it has to do with the fact that we are used to some conceptions that it occurs that could it be missconceptions.. like what we hear and how we hear it! I would suggest 430 with a slidely turn up intonation to 431 hz aprox by ear as equal modern temperament! it´s all in the ear and 432 it´s a good mathematical reference and startpoint! there's also a theory which may has to be what you reffers.. it's called Scientific Pitch Tuning or Phytagorean-Phitagoric Tuning it can differ but not much.. they're pretty all the same base with differents apreciations.. approaches and aproximations to give pretty close results too!

    • @castle6660
      @castle6660 Год назад

      Also to make an experiment of this kind legit.. he would have to actually play half of them in 432 and the other half in 440. Forcing people to choose between two categories.. while lying about the categories.. makes this experiment nonsense.. people were forced to choose between two...when in reality there were many different choices. This experiment was nonsensical and didn't prove nor disprove anything.

    I love the way you did this video. The twist was very intriguing. So I happened upon a copy of this frequency chart claiming to be the original value of notes. These notes are said to correspond to the resonant frequencies based upon the geometric laws of the universe. I have it lying around somewhere, and yes A happened around 432 cycles, although I think it was actually slightly lower. I created a piano scale with these frequencies mapped the best I could, all of them being, slightly off of what they would be in the commonly recognized scale. I used a moog and a tuner on my computer, but in reality the notes were precise down to a 100th of a cycle so I can't speak to what degree of accuracy I was able to maintain. I did notice that the notes did seem to resonate better, but that, could be as you said, a placebo effect. One thing of note is that dissonant notes seemed to sound less off. I think this could be due to the fact that the actual degree of the scale was a more even mathematically and created less phase juxtapositions. If you're interested I could see if I could find the scale and republish the frequencies.

    I agree. It's just BS. I do just like tuning lower. If someone plays at A415hz I feel EVEN MORE drawn to that. There isn't anything special about 415, or 410, 432, or 442, or 440. People try to prove why something is "good" when all they need to say is "I like it because I just like it." 15 or so years ago people were freaking out because orchestras were starting to tune to 442. It's all kinda dumb to me and a way to avoid taking responsibility for your own music and your own opinions.

    Thank god people are starting to cover this topic. A few months ago I had to dig to find someone being honest about this "Philosopher's tuning". It all comes down to personal taste, vocal strain (as you mentioned), and the fact that we respond to reference points in music such as intervals or side by side tuning comparisons. On that note I love that you lied about the real tunings! I had no idea the first was above 440! Most people are not able to tell either so this deception really proved your point!

    Hi!
    I tried 432 hz out on my acoustic guitar last year. I didn't notice much difference at first. But after a while I did. It seemed as though it took some time for my guitar to adjust. The result was my best year of songwriting ever; by a long shot, and with the same habits. Maybe it was coincidence, but it didn't feel that way. I play in 440 now so that I'm in tune with the norm, but if I ever finish up my songs from last year I'll go back to 432 for more.

I've converted some of Meshuggahs albums (which are very low end heavy) to 432Hz, and they sound much clearer, cleaner and punchier when I'm blasting them at high volume in my car or headphones. There doesn't have to be any conspiracy behind it, it just sounds better in some cases. I've uploaded one of those albums to my channel if anyone would like to check it out.

    It's said that 432Hz is the frequency of human hearing, that's why It's said to be in harmony with the universe.
    Also, changing the frequency of a song will affect your brain activity, showing results of serenity in 432Hz, opposed to the more nervous and rushed approach you get from a higher frequency - 440Hz.

    • @samuraiguitarist
      @samuraiguitarist  7 лет назад +4

      I'd be curious as to where you get your sources and what you mean by that. The range of human hearing is generally considered 20Hz-20kHz with the highest sensitivity around the 3kHz area (where a lot of the consonant sounds are).

    • @eduf93
      @eduf93 7 лет назад +8

      I did not explain myself properly, what I meant to say was that we all hold a certain vibrational frequency, and our bodies are estimated to be about 70% water. It's factual that musical frequencies affect our own state of vibration, which is responsible for our own state of matter.
      Every expression through sound, emotion, or thought holds a frequency. That given frequency influences everything around it, much like a drop of water creating a larger ripple effect in a large body of water.
      Experimenting with these frequencies led people to the conclusion that music tuned in A=432 Hz is not only more beautiful and harmonious to the ears (This is what I tried to say, even if It's subjective), but it also induces a more inward experience that is felt inside the body, at the spine and heart (vibrational state closer to human body frequencies,).
      Music tuned in A=440 Hz offered a more outward and mental experience, and was felt at the side of the head and then projected outwards. Audiophiles have also stated that A=432 Hz music seems to be non-local and can fill an entire room, whereas A=440 Hz can be perceived as directional or linear in sound propagation.
      Resuming, our body accepts this frequency more naturally.

    • @RicardoAldana1988
      @RicardoAldana1988 7 лет назад

      one thing it's the range of frequencies that we can hear and another the frequencies that we are more reliable to get in tuning.. play or even hear in order to the sound and more so by his form and way of propagation by itself and the retaliation that can it cause frequencies not so reliable due to it's randomness and arbitrarily and deterministic standarization that can be rather than harmful!

      there are plenty of experiment in physic.. like chladni plates.. tonoscope and specific area like cymatics and other kind of studies of wave phenomena.. vibration and sound that may suggest for the results that are certain kind of frequencies that works in a diferently way in a non-arbitrarily arrengement that can be observe by geometric forms and patterns inherent to the wave sound and explain it in math by the harmonic analysis of forma and the superpoition of basic waves into chart of various waveforms that thrown results that are linked to number or representation theory (128-432 array of number in a scale or harmonic series of number.. 9 matrix number.. harmonic series.. pitagorean scale).. theory of groups (projective geometry.. euclidian geometry..) signal processing (for numerical analysis.. genomic and time-frequency analisys.. continous-time and non-linear signal processing.. reverberation for pshycoacoustics).. quantum mechanics (from string theory to wave function eigenvalue and in general the whole subject by his singularity that made it apliable from the mechanics itself to the math and biology or chemistry).. the tidal analysis to explain and correlates the behaviour of the spheres.. big masses of water and all organic tides to a general relativeness that it can correlate to the neuroscience and the human nature and behaviour .. it seems pretty obviuos that we can just simply study facts and data by separate like the classical science do and make rational statements but in fact that's too obvious and that's not science works and have been evolved ince the earth isn't flat and irrational staments made new conjectures that are finally prove time to time..

    this is advanced. sometimes I record my guitar and bass parts few semitone or even one note higher. then shift the pitch down to normal in the mixing to get more full sound, but this is an irrelevant topic I guess

      well, the beatles did that in strawberry fields forever, and they've got an amazing result.

    I personally prefer 432 because more notes sound beautiful to me that way. I don't dislike 440 though.

    Okay thank god, as someone who's produced music for almost a decade, my ears kept telling me something was off with the examples. I swore I was hearing subtle differences between the examples but I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt haha . Thank you for explaining that at the end or that might have kept gnawing away at my mind for at least a week 😆
