These were some of my favorite models, although I bought the first "new" set a couple years ago. It was the perfect buy because it was the model of the actual loco that took us from Delmenhorst to Leipzig, and the station announcements announced "Delmenhorst" (my adopted German hometown). I do like the new re-design you have. Gorgeous models.

Hi Anthony, yup these are really nice models. A little big for my small layout, but I like them! Enjoy ;-) Bo

Great review.. I also have this set. Unfortunately the 1st class car has started flickering the lights when it's running..

    • @ModelTrainFun
      @ModelTrainFun  Год назад +1

      Hi,
If you see flickering it is usually because of poor electrical connection somewhere. For this set I would guess the wheels - or the electrical couplers. Double check both, make sure all looks ok and clean if needed. Also check the power pickup on the wheels.
      Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-)

hi i am intrested to but this train , can you tell me can i buy it for example 2x normal bi lvl cars and 1 x control car and this will work with any locomotive that i have ; or i need to buy locomotive at the beginning as well . Couse i cannot regognize from instruction manual that locomotive gives power to the passenger cars , or they just standalone taking power from the track - thank you in advance

      Hi michlus,
The light in the cars is controlled by the cab control car: www.maerklin.de/en/products/details/article/43488. Hence you can use the cars without the locomotive.
The power (center rail / B) is transferred through the current-conducting couplers. In this way the cab control car can turn on/off the light in the other cars. If you do not wish to buy the cab control car you could add a slider to one of the other cars and wire it to the current-conducting couplers.
Did this help? Enjoy ;-) Bo

Hi, I'm Roberto and I'm new to model train. I bought a set Märklin (digital) 29488 “Swiss Freight Class RE 620” which contains the mobile Station 2. I also bought 43488 IC 2 doppelstock Steuerwagen (control car), 43486 and 43487 wagen which I connected to the locomotive of Set 29488, after it was recognized by MS2. Everything works fine, the train moves, the locomotive lights come on, however, I can't get the lights on the wagen (43488, 43486 and 43487) to come on. my question: With this locomotive from Set 29488, is it not possible to send the command to the control car 29488 and turn on the lights of all the wagen? Would I have to make any changes to the Locomotive's decoder? Tanks in advance

      Hi Roberto,
The 43488 control car has it's own controller and is not controlled by the locomotive. The 43486 and 43487 get's light from the 43488 control car. As the 43488 is a MFX decoder it should register itself with the MS2 as another "locomotive". Find the 43488 (unsure what name) by selecting another locomotive on the MS2 (Shift+Locomotive). You can see how to change locomotive here: ruclips.net/video/aBpm0EK4-G8/видео.html
Place the 43488 control car on the track by itself. Find the correct "locomotive". Try to turn on/off light on the 43488 control car by itself using the MS2. When that works connect the 43487 and 43486 and see if it works. The light power is transferred from the 43488 control cab to the other cars using current conducting couplers. You can recognize it by having some exposed metal on the coupler for transferring power. Be aware that one of the cars might only have current conducting couplers in one end. Try again to change light on the cab control car and observe if it turns on/off the other cars - you might have to swap the 43487 and 43486 if it does not work.
Finally, examine your locomotive - it must NOT have current conducting couplers as this might short circuit the consist. You can change the couplers on the car closest to the locomotive to normal non-current conducting couplers to be sure. However, the Re 630 in the 29488 does not have this so you should be ok. Now connect the locomotive to the cars and double check everything still works.
Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo

hi im new to model train and i got my self a marklin c track with ballast bed under it and im trying my first layout im slowly getting more rils so i can build sort of a g shape layout i see that my train struggles on some places is it smart to buy the power connectors for the rails that you put under it or do i need a more powerfull transformer to power 2 meter bye 1.80 meter and 3.5 meter bye 1 meter 2 meter is on oneside of the bed room the 1.8 meters is at the window and then you get 3.5 meter long straigth that goes 1 meter to the door so i still have alot of room to get in i think that i need more power but because im super new with it i have no clue i got the train working now so i can see the incline if he can make it he can go up it but the power is struggling i think i hope you can understand what im trying to ask and thnks you show stuf that i could learn slowly
thnks and keep up i hope to see more

      Hi Hein,
I looked at this short video you have of your layout: ruclips.net/video/jipnHWp1v68/видео.html It looks like a cool little layout!
I see that you have Märklin C-track and a Mobile Station 1 (the first version). I also see you have the blue THW train, so I assume that you have the 29655 starter set? It's been a while since I used the Mobile Station 1 (MS1), but I seem to recall that the power supply with this starter set is much larger than what the MS1 can put on the track. Looking at the Mobile Station 1 manual page 10: static.maerklin.de/damcontent/97/3d/973d487ddda17f66aae9a3d31a81cf511434542447.pdf I see that it has a max of 2A. I do not remember if the MS1 can show the voltage and amps on the track? The manuals I find do not show how, but you might be able to find a sub-menu (most likely under settings) that show this. If you have this you can use it to see the power consumption and judge if you have enough power - for hints see the video on how to monitor MS2/CS3 power consumption: ruclips.net/video/UuVuEenZn98/видео.html However, you should have more than enough to power your small layout and a couple of trains.
If you are having troubles you should check if you have reliable power throughout the layout and check track, wheels and slider. These are the main parts for reliable power. Tracks must be clean, wheels must be clean and the slider clean to have reliable power pickup. These quickly get dirty and must be cleaned. You can get ideas from this video: ruclips.net/video/Yke1Akvh0D/видео.html Marklinofsweden also have a couple of videos: ruclips.net/video/41Cts-OvNHs/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/0olM5Zq1zlY/видео.html
As for powering your layout - looking at your layout I would add some extra wires from the connector box to a couple of points on your layout. You need to use thick wires with many strands. I do not have a permanent layout, but I understand on other model railroaders that having a power connection every couple of meters is advisable and some even recommend every 1 meter. I would say on your layout try with one across to the point furthest away, then divide again if needed.
If you generally have too little power you may have to upgrade your MS1 to something bigger.
Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-) Bo
