HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 июл 2017
- The Berklee Indian Ensemble is delighted to present “5 Peace Band” featuring renowned Indian composer and vocalist, Shankar Mahadevan. Composed by John McLaughlin, “5 Peace Band” was most notably performed by 'Remember Shakti', the reformation of 1970s indo-jazz fusion group, 'Shakti'. Led by John McLaughlin (guitar) and Zakir Hussain (tabla), 'Remember Shakti' included U. Shrinivas (mandolin), Shankar Mahadevan (vocals), and V. Selvaganesh (kanjira, ghatam, mridangam).
It was indeed an honor for our Berklee Indian Ensemble musicians to reinterpret such an iconic composition, and collaborate on this live performance with Shankar Ji as part of the fourth Berklee India Exchange (BIX) Artist Residency. We also dedicate this video in tribute to John McLaughlin who will receive an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music on July 10th, 2017 in Valencia, Spain.

I'd go to Berklee. Not to study, but to hang around outside for three years and get autographs.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the guy on the fender Stratocaster?
Drummer was already quarantining himself in 2017.
That guitarist deserve medal.
When I was a teenager I dreamed about his school ...could not be... I hope they admit retired grandparents! I think to study harder than anyone :) very fan
Eminem : I'm the fastest.
Rohith : Hold my Sa Re Ga Ma
Props to the guitar player for learning flawlessly the vocalist's 2mn long solo. Very impressive.
The complexity behind those polyrhythms combined with the mysticism of the melodies and the jazz influences is truly mesmerizing. Even my 8 months daughter watched this in our living room with total attention. ❤️❤️❤️
I think I've watched this at least once a week for a year now.
Has a Drummer/ Percussionist I can't even imagine how they attempted such a difficult composition which was only performed by the great legendary Musicians Zakir Hussain and Giant Legendary Musicians like John Mac Laughlin, Shankar Mahadevan.
it almost felt like Shankar Mahadevan himself had stopped just to enjoy the Rohith's vocals.
And to think each syllable they are pronouncing is the indian sound for the note. Wow
i just witnessed a flower opening in the sunlight after being freshly watered.
*They are singing in the language of Musical instruments*
Damn!! Those are all the Permutations and Combinations of Sa Ri Ga Ma Pa Da Ni Could ever exist !!
The Music and Styles the Indian ancesters have already mastered it long ago..... .no wonder Old Indian Civilization was the most Amazing Gifted civilization ever existed... They Masterred the Art of Singing,, .Music's .Science .philosophy..Miracles and Beyond way back ... ..and their legacies still we get to hear it today from these talented Brothers....
The guitarist as known as Aleif Hamdan is a beast. played flawlessly. he deserves every happiness in the world
This is so addictive, I can’t stop listening. This is like a perfect marriage between Indian and western classical music.
Imagine a collaboration between these geniuses and Snarky Puppy.. That would be epic.
I feel like a drop in the ocean
I feel defeated by great music
Tamil soil given three children to the globe. At rehman, shivamani, and Shankar mahadevan thankyou again my soil god bless them wishes from tamilnadu
Im stunned! Just love Indian/western music fusion so much. That singing is heavenly!
the guy with orange hair is my favourite at Berkeley music school.
The older Indian Guy in the Purple Shirt is amazing. I love It when musician enjoy the music they Play / Sing
Huge respect to Srinivas, Mahadevan, Mclaughlin, Zakir Hussain and Selva Ganesh who gave this beautiful music spontaneously! :)
This is literally the best thing I've ever heard. I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this.
I love how everyone seems to be having so much fun, that's what it is all about
Incredible talent. Nothing else needs to be said.
I've been living under a rock! This is life-changing amazing! Musical Paradigm completely blown!
Aisi chiz gaane aur bajane k liye 15 20 saal ki siksha chahiye
Kiya baat Shankar mahadevn g and all other musicians are so Brilliant 👏
Shankar Mahadevan sir, whatever you did at the end, was something out of this world!!! HUGE HUGE RESPECT..
Why is Berklee Indian Ensemble always so enchanting? These people are just amazing, whether it's about Shreya Ghoshal, AR Rahman or Shankar Mahadevan, they ensure that the show is at its best with the perfect music, beats and notes. Leaves me in awe everytime. Captivated by your music man!
Love❤
I don't know what they are saying but it sounds beautiful!!!
Fury Foxhound they're notes in Indian classical music. Akin to 'do re mi...'
The sheer joy on their faces is a testament to their love for music.
Music is a language in itself. It doesn't need dictionary words to express itself.
Slowly but surely, this put a big smile on my face 🙂
Everytime I revisit this performance it just gets more joyfull ,some of the finest music i've ever heard ,wish they'd do an actual cd of it
Good version, but i can't help it - a word about McLaughlin, who is one of those few unique and fearless musicians that march to their own drummer, as they say. He changed music history a number of times. Not your normal guy - he's a brother from another planet and went where no man has gone before and in fact, where no man has gone since.
So this is a piece from the band Shakti who were an ensemble of the best artists in the Indian classical scene at the time and John Mclaughlin. Listening to them has definitely changed my thinking of what music can do.
Just Speechless !!! j'en reste bouche bée !!! Monsieur Shankar Mahadevan est encore plus impressionnant dans cette version que dans celle donnée en compagnie du Dr John Mc Laughlin lors du "Jazz à Vienne". Hats off to everyone !!!
The vocals solos have not been improvised right? Coz if it is, that guitarist is a god.
every now and then i remember this exists and come back to watch it and it never fails to elicit pure joy, and put me in my place about how little i truly know about music
It is impossible to imagine the effort these guys must have put for this performance. Really, hats off to everyone. :)
Indian singers doing great great great job.
I am proud to say I am the Indian.
The guitar player is insanely good, the whole ensemble is but the complexity of the melodies the guitar player is playing to double the singers and the violinist is just fantastic!
Good God! Who is that fine specimen belting out those Carnatic notations like a God?
Love it! Thank you India for these lovely stylish vibes.
I came here for a moment and I'm having 10 mins of blossomness.
Excellent tribute to Shakti, John McLaughlin and all its members. This rendition is brilliant.
no words.. from breathless to speechless.. 😍😍😍
I am a 61 year old Cherokee, German, French breed...I was digging some Teddy Swims and this was at the end of one of his play lists. I feel so sheltered...LOL...never heard of this style before but I stumped my husband, I told him he would guess once a day for eternity and not guess what I was listening to. I like it, Michelle likes it! How fun. The joinery of each part is seamless.
Oh...what a beauty...
in 5/8th rhythm.
This is a gift for music lovers to cherish for years and years
May god bless them with good health to create and inspire many more such pieces..
This is like food, like medicine, like oxygen. As it ends - snap snap! - I start again at the beginning. In a world that is so so crazy, I find faith here, and joy. Celebration.
Now that's what I call Shankar; Lord of Music. Lord of Lord. Shankar Mahadevan!
Mind blown 🤯 trying to calculate how many times I’ll listen to this work of art in the years ahead.
The 5 piece band original composition is by Ustaad "ZAKIR HUSSAIN" "JOHN MCLAUGHLIN","L SHANKAR","RAMNAD RAGHAVAM" and "VINAYAKRAM" called "SHAKTI" and sung by "SHANKAR MAHADEVAN". The band is a fusion of Carnatic, Hindustani and jazz music.
I feel sorry for those 88 people who disrespected the music
Why is there only 10 mins of this. I need atleast 3 hrs of this
I love how they are enjoying themselves even as they perform! It is a joy to behold, and makes it doubly enjoyable for me!
This is superbly amazing..!!!
Shankar Mahadevan is totally BREATHLESS
Who is the other singer..he equally steals the show...I have always been seeing him in other Berkley concerts as well specially AR Rehman
Rohith Jayaraman

I would love to study with you Shankar Mahadevan ‼️. Wow!
Indian skatting???? This is the most amazing sound ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bridget F Stegall not really skatting. each of the syllables used are a part of the Indian octane (sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni, sa). much like do,re,mi. now imagine the different combinations you can make out of them :)
Gods of music, Rohit sir along with Shankar saab.... It surely had been a Pilgrimage for the one, who belongs to music industry....... not a single second was non adventurous...

This didn't ask for my full intention, it demanded it. Chills, so much energy here. Wonderful music and it looks like they had a blast performing.
damn! seems like we are just beginning with world music!
I knew the genius of Shankar Mahadevan, who doesn't? But it was the other guy, Rohith Jayaraman, who impressed me. Out of this world.

Another one of Shankar Mahadevan's masterpiece! Outstanding blend of classical indian and 'almost doo-wap and even standard jazz'
Music at a totally different level.
