- The 5 Peace band- John McLaughlin (guitar), U Srinivas (Mandolin), Zakir Hussain (Tabla), V Selvaganesh (Ghatam),S Mahadevan (Vocals) perform live in Vienna. Note: This is the remember shakti lineup + S Mahadevan. The songs they play are: Caruna, Ma No Pa, Sakhi, and Giriras Sudha.
Forever in my mind is this band (sans singer) playing at Harvard U. in 2001.I went with a friend who would be dead in months from Brain Cancer-he knew it, and came to the show anyway (his idea!) During an AMAZING performance, he leaned over, in pain, and said, 'I'm so glad you are here with me hearing this." I'm still getting misty-eyed thinking about it..Shakti and Martin Baker are forever fused together in my mind. RIP brother, 10/8/2001.12 years feels like 2 weeks. Thank U for posting this!
So sad to note that U Srinivas on the mandolin passed away yesterday in Chennai, India. RIP Srinivas, you will will sorely missed but never forgotten.
Music has no religion, no racism, no bias, no country: it is soul itself
Who came here from mooro and Junaid akram's podcast?
is the video director Drunk, almost most of the time this shows wrong section especially mandolin part !! There are some beautiful sections where U Srinivas played a gem and video keep on wandering on and about John !! The accompaniment to Shankar is given by Mandolin Srinivas and not John for those who are interested.
their energy is secret of boot ... oh sorry... boost is secret of their energies
The singing in the beginning reminds me of when I ate too many hotdogs with my friend Tony.
When music breaks into the realm of applied physics
RIP Srinivas
At 17.05 he introduces him as "Mandolin Shrinivas". Check out his website mandolinshrinivas org, it's all about him and his mandolin...
This concert is a hallmark of human achievement ……….ten years later I keep coming back to it
U Srinivas had such an amazing talent; such a unique take on mandolin playing. I am always blown away by what he played. I'm sad I never got to see him live, but thankful that he existed and was recorded.
This has to be one of the greatest live performances ever!
Goddamn.
what a wonderful combination, never before .It is so faaaaantaaastic.I deeply regret the sad demise of legend U.Srinivas.But he will live forever with his mandoline in everybody's heart of hearts.May his soul rest in Mandoline.
If there's one emotion for Shakti and Remember Shakti, it is Joy. The musicians are so happy and enjoy creating it lights up our days.
To you who originally uploaded this, Blessings & Thanks!
Thanks! I have written the beginning of each piece as I was listening:
It is at moments like this that I find technology a blessing. That I can sit at home and find this extraordinary music. And then play it through my quality sound system. God Bless ! RUclips for being here and ktroxie for posting this. The later two songs are simply transcendent. Srinivas's playing is extraordinary and JM's licks are among his most delicious. His solo on Sakhi makes his syn guitar an instrument of holiness. We are fortunate beings who find this.
These musicians are all masters. I saw Ravi Shankar before he passed away and his daughter Anushka played with him. Indian music has always fascinated me. John is the only fusion player that can play this style. He is very unique slong with all these musicians. A rare perfection in these styles. Bravo!
