    This is a FANTASTIC video! I spent literally several hours (and I ruined a lot of fabric and stabilizer) trying to figure out why needles were all of a sudden breaking during my embroidery. After watching this video I made one simple change and the issue was resolved (the new thread I was using was on a spool that needed to be off the machine and in a vertical position instead of horizontally on the machine's spool pin). THANKS for taking the time to share your knowledge!!!

    Thank you, I will try what you showed me. I think it make take care of my problem. You see my thread nests and shreds. I changed the needle and cleaned the bobbin area. and re thread the machine. I have the stand you spoke about and will use that. My other embroidery machine works well with the stand. It is a Brother PE535. This one I just received as a gift from a friend is used and is Brother PE770. I will try again with your advice. I so much appreciate your video and the help you have shown me.

    I use the large disk spool retainer on all thread spools. I have a thread tree I use for large spools.

    Thank you for these great ideas. How often should I change my needle?

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад +2

      Hi Kim, you should change your needle approximately every 8 hours of stitching - but I sometimes use mine longer if I'm stitching on lightweight fabrics! When I'm stitching out dense designs or heavy fabrics I may change it after 6 hours or so - You'll know when your thread starts to shred, or you have loops in your stitch out!

    Hello - I noted in the video you said the cone threads may need to be used upright - I couldn't really tell the size of your sample cone, I just bought my 770 from a private sale and before I had it I had done some research and on Ebay found a box of 40 smallish cones of beautiful thread made for embroidery machines. Each cone measures 1.25" across the bottom and are about 2" tall. Should I get a vertical holder for that size cone?
    By the way - the thread is polyester embroidery, 500 m per spool. The brand says SMB Always. Hope it's not a box of junk thread!!

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  5 лет назад

      Hi Margaret! Your cones should be fine, as long as the thread is not too old. Sometimes, I add a few drops of Sewers Aid to my thread spools, as heat, humidity, and age will also affect how they stitch out. I use my makeshift thread stand with all sizes of cones, to avoid knotting of the thread. Sounds like you found a great deal on thread. Amazon also has boxes of Embroidery thread, you may want to check out.

    I just got my pe770 and I love it! I'm having the issue of my thread constantly breaking and popping up on the screen that I need to rethread it. It's so annoying

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад

      You'll need to use a thread stand, Amanda. And make sure the thread isn't getting snagged on the spool. Some spools have rough spots that thread gets snagged on, causing the thread to shred & break. Did you notice that I use a DIY pipe cleaner thread stand? LOL It works great!

    Hi! Late commenter here. I have such a tight thread finishes. My threads doesn’t have that fluffy relax looking finished. They are all right and sucked in to the fabric. What can I do? 😭I used polyester thread. Will thread brand make a difference?

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  5 лет назад

      Most likely your machine needs to be cleaned, as well as the bobbin case. If threads get stuck in the thread path, it can throw off your tension. Same with the bobbin case. Always troubleshoot with a clean machine.

    I got this machine for christmas and i am having trouble with the thread knotting up under the fabric and i have to cut the fabric to get it off? Not sure what I am not doing right, I am using a fabric stablizer but it has pretty big holes in it and i am using a T-shirt so could it be my stablizer is not good?

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад

      Sounds like a stabilizer issue! Also, you'll want to make sure you replace your needle often.

    I am having trouble with my tack down stitch in applique. My needle is treaded but as I am sewing it doesn't stitch, looks like it is until you notice nothing is tacked down and the needle is still treaded and tension is at 00 speed at 650 all factory settings. I am also having trouble with my tread getting tight after a couple of minutes of sewing. I always tread my machine with the leaver up. My bobbin seems fine and the bobbin case is clean any ideals as to what I'am doing wrong?

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад

      Susan Montgomery it sounds like a few things may be going on. To troubleshoot, I always start with a fresh needle, clean under the bobbin case, make sure the bobbin isn't in backwards, and retread the top. Have you recently broken any needles or had a shredding issue? If so, there could be pieces of thread in your tension discs, so make sure the area from #3-#4 Is clean (Just remove the left cover, by unscrewing in the back). The other issue may be that your machine is cutting the thread too short. I always pull the thread out, to leave a 4" tail, and I hold on to it during the first few stitches. That way it's sure to catch the bobbin thread. If you try this, and it still gives you problems, then you may need to replace your bobbin holder (if it was damaged from a broken needle, for example).

      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад

      Susan Montgomery , Also if your thread is getting tight after sewing a few stitches, it's either getting snagged on your thread spool, or you have little pieces of thread caught inside near #4.

      Thank you so much for the Info, I had a fabric jam about a week ago and I had to take everything out of the bobbin case. I could have some thread still in there somewhere I will sure check again. What size needle for tee shirt or jersey fabric do you use? I know it needs to be a ball type just was wondering what brand and correct size I need to use? Thank you for getting back with me so quick I am still learning on mine. Susan

      Hi Susan! Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but the youtube notification was sent to my spam folder! I use Schmetz brand ball point needles, in the 70/10 or 70/12 size. (Size 10 is smaller, and I like it for thin knits). I just hate those thread jams too! Luckily, as you get more comfortable with your machine and use of stabilizers, you will not have those issues in the future!

    Hello, why is it that my needle makes big holes when stitching. It makes little rips.

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  6 лет назад +1

      C C , try using a smaller ball point needle. Schmetz makes jersey knit ball point needles. You can buy them at Joann Fabrics.

    Hi anyone of you ladies with the Brother PE-770. My question is, there's any way I could adjust the stitches on the letters to make the zigzag wider. Thank you all and hoping somebody can answer my question.

    I just bought a brother pe770 from my sister. I thread the machine, click #9, and the thread doesn't go into the needle. Why? Please help!

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад

      Hi Gina! One problem may be that you are not inserting the needle fully. Make sure that the needle is pushed upwards, until it stops, then tighten the screw. Another issue, is that may new machine owners are afraid they will break the auto threading lever - it's possible that you are not pushing the lever fast enough - it needs to "snap" , by pushing it fast & hard - it won't break! Hope this helps!

    • @alfredohuerta5688
      @alfredohuerta5688 4 года назад

      I was having a similar problem with the automatic threading not working consistently. I figured out that the needle has to be in the absolute "highest" position in order for it to work. Before threading rotate the wheel on the right side of the machine and make sure that the needle is as it's maximum position before threading.

    • @thistlecottage944

      Paree Customs, I would make sure that your bobbin is inserted correctly, like a "P" . Also make sure your bobbin case is inserted, with the white dots aligned. Don't adjust any tensions, they should be set to zero.

    Spool stands are cheap, got mine off ebay for $5.95.

    • @thistlecottage944
      @thistlecottage944  7 лет назад

      Absolutely, gordon buzzell! I agree the thread stands are quite inexpensive. However, my machine sits on top of my antique treadle cabinet, so I had to come up with another solution, that did not take up space. I've also seen the newer spool holders, that connect to the top of machines, so the thread pulls from the side, rather than the top! But whichever type you choose, they are highly recommended when using thread on cones! :)
