Quick Cymbal Comparison: ZILDJIAN S SET VS MEINL MCS SET

- Hello! This is a quick cymbal comparison.
I made this video because I recently bought the Zildjian S set, my previous cymbals are the Meinl MCS set.
Both sets contains the same sizes: 20'' Ride, 18'' and 16'' crashes, 14'' hi-hats, the difference between them is that the Zildjian crashes are Thin and Meinl are Medium. But the huge difference are the hi hats: Mastersound S on the Zildjian set.
I hope you enjoy the video but most important, I hope you can hear the difference on this great cymbals (both of them).
Zildjian S Series 👊
S series sounds stunning. Just ordered myself a set earlier on today.
Excellent dude! Which pack or ones did you get!
Thank you for the beautiful drum video "❤".
God bless you and all your family.
Have a nice day.
thank you... 🙏💕
UPDATE: After 1 year and 5 months of using Zildjian S series set, a tiny crack appeared on the top of the hi-hats. I practice 2 or 3 days a week for 1-2 hours. So I think, of course I'm not an expert, this crack would be the result of the pressure of the hits and the gaps created by the waves on the bottom side of the hi hats. And this is the first cymbal I broke. ☹️😅
Get the S Rock hats
coulda been the tightness of the cymbal holder....also could've been how HARD you stomped down on the hi hat pedal also if you intentionally gorilla slapped your hats
hi hate are usually pretty tough to break ..since there's two targets to absorb your hits ...so ya might wanna re - evaluate your playing style on the hats
It's the 1st time in my life I've heard or read that someone breaks a hi hat cymbal. Wtf! I know that's possible, but come on! You have to be a rough drummer or hit your drumsticks inappropriately.
@@josegracia609 I'm sorry??? 🤔

Zildjian S series
When looking at MCS cymbals, I see all the hallmarks of spinformed cymbals (a process that is usually reserved for beginner/budget cymbals). You'll never get the kind of life out of a spinformed cymbal that you get out of a cymbal that's been hammered and lathed.
S series are made using hammering and lathing, like you see on higher-end cymbal models. Therefore, it's logical that their resonance and volume will be greater.
Why won't you crash on a crash cymbal? I love my S Rock hi hats and 22" ride.
Meinl really don't have any chance against Zildjian S series. The only serious choice!
Zildjian S are very best... no doubt
Don’t know if this is kind of a hot take, zildjian is awesome and all they are like pioneers when it comes to drum cymbals especially but the Meinl ride cymbal sounds spectacular whilst the zildjian S series just has a bit too much ring for taste to it, but to each their own of course🥁
I mean, it’s not entirely a fair comparison. S cymbals are made out of s12 bronze, where as the hcs is brass. Bronze being the far superior cymbal material, it sounds better. In the wise words of dankpods “brass cymbals aren’t great. They just go buh and die”
The only thing I like is the S hi-hat. The other cymbals wouldn't qualify to be on my set. Of course, I understand cymbals are expensive so starting out with either set would be fine for a beginner.
You're right, cymbals are pretty expensive. In fact I've been upgrading my cymbal set with a K Custom Special Dry Ride and a K Custom Dark hi hats, it takes time and effort to do the savings but it worth the pain. 👌🏼
@@GioRdrummerthose are two excellent cymbals, nice choices 👍
Yeah but it’s still good to use mid range cymbals for general practice to help save the beating on the beauties. Depending on style of music of course. I’d hate to crack one of my favorite $500 cymbals being too bombastic lol
@@Jtdubbzz : So true, they are expensive and not everyone can afford high-end models. Also, there are some lower end models that may work just fine or have just the sound you are looking for. In retrospect, I do have some cheaper cymbals for just that purpose or I pair them with different cymbals to create specific sounds. My "main" cymbals are high-end simply because they provide the sound I like.
I have Zildjian S series medium heavy rock crash and medium heavy rock ride..both cymbals sounds amazing!! I use them for indoor playing but they're too loud lol, suitable for open air performance. And i can say without doubt,S class can be compared with high range A customs, but they're more affordable. Again,Zildjian for life!
I play my drums at night sometimes but haven't got my cymbals yet I like to know how Loud they'll be when I get them
Zildjan S family or series
Zildjian S😍
crash and hihat : S family
ride : MCS
S ride is too loud for me.
"Zildjian the winner by default.... Even Zildjian's lower lines are no comparison IMO."
I think we can all agree meinl mcs holds a special place in our hearts for us 2008 era drummers
Not for me! paste 101 and 202’s all day then zbt incredible that has been 12 years since that :o
srry ...zildjian man for more years than i can remember
To my ear the MCS sounded more complex and much darker then the S series from Zildjian. I have an old 18 in. Scimitar that is B8 it's a crash ride 18in. And it sounds nothing like the MCS series. It's amazing to me that Meinl can get a great sound out of a B8 cymbal.
No comparison. Zildjian alllllll the way. Now, if you compared the Zildjians to say, the Paiste 8's or 7 series, probably I'd say the Paiste cymbals would win. Meinl budget cymbals are too high pitched for my liking.
Why are you playing soooo quiet? Nosy neighbors. When doing a cymbal comparison you've got to play at a normal level or the comparison just doesn't work. No one plays that quiet in a band or practice. Even this quiet Zildjian #1
And guys again anyone my budget for some drum cymbals what should i get and since im a person who likes loud cymbals
So the choices but remeber the budget for me is 800-1000 so shouod i get k customs or a customs or s series and any of effect cymbals like ,chinas, efx and even some L80 low volume for china or should i get efx splash and im wonderinh again should i get emperor remo heads or powerstroke 3 or 4 and any color like it can be clear, coated, ebony and any feedbacks i will appreciate
@Rajiv Rath Thank you
Zildjian Planet Z or ZBT,you can't miss with both.
@@zdravkonovosel122 ty
zildjian i's are b8 S is b10, mcs is b8 and classics custom are b10
S is b12
the winner is.............. PAISTE
I think we should should you should send me a drum set or a symbol or piano or is that one I don't know
I love both. Zildjian sounds absolutely beautiful but I'm a fan of Peter Wildoer of Darkane so I use MEINL.😁
Zildjian S-series is superior.
I've tried mcs, and all I can say it's not that good enugh. prefer zildjian s or even i
even tho I'm paiste guys
#teamzyldjian
Zildjian S series más agradable
Did you purposely play SOUL TO SQUEEZE by Red Hot Chili Peppers?
No, I didn't, in fact I wasn't thinking in any particular song. 😅
The Zildjian Set is way better!!!
Guys what should i get s series or zildjan custom a im very serous
I was thinking to buy the A custom series but my budget was the issue. I don't complain about the S series sound at all, but I think the A custom series sounds brighter, as far as my ears concern. 👍🏼
@@GioRdrummer thanks for the feedback
Which ride would be better suited as a crash?
I think the Zildjian ride, it is brighter than the Meinl. 👍🏼
@@GioRdrummer dang was hoping for the cheaper one lol
Its that S Rock or S Family..?
They're S family. 👍🏼
Always Zildjian
Have to say the Zildjians sound much better...
hard to say. You need to hit those cymbals like you want to crack them then we will find out wich ones are better
Thank you brother. Are these other people cranking the volume to 90%? As a 34 yr vet behind a kit it's good to know there are drummer's like you still out there 🥁🤘⚡⚡
MAN CRASH IS FOR CRASH! CRASH IT MAN. THIS IS DUST CLEANING.
Man, this video was recorded 5 or 6 years ago, I'm not the same drummer that I was back then, pardon me.
MEINL is low-key and sounds more musical ,and ZILDJIAN sounds harsher
Really unfair comparison because these are 2 different alloys. Zildjian S blows those mcs cymbals out of the water.
Zildjian S de lejos
S
ZILDJIAN S SET
jeez the s series sounds better , whoda thunk ?
Meinl mcs

Did you learn how to play them yet?
Not really, thanks for your concern. Have a great day. 👍🏼
Zildian > Meinl
Mcs sucks
Okay...but this is a horrible comparison...cause the price difference is too much
I had the chance to buy this Zildjian Set but I never tried to compare these cymbals because of its range of price or brand or any other reason. It was because I had both sets, let's say circumstantial. 👍🏼
No comparison none s series is a way better mineral lost there fucking.mind
Fake the meinl cymbals was rigged
Spot ! Nope, meinl uses a different lathing pattern, a different hammering pattern and a different alloy, they just don’t sound as good🤷♂️
Spot ! Not at all. I think the sound is different ‘cause they’re Medium and as Diego wrote, different hammering and alloy. I mean you can hear these Meinl cymbals in action in my other videos and they sound pretty great. 👍🏼
@@GioRdrummer If you find a chance to A/B the MCS with the ZBT line we'd love to hear it. The ZBT series is more of a competitor to MCS as far as alloy and price point I'd say.
