I was just fishing in one of my local city pond with a rooster tail, catching stocked trout, when low and behold an 8 lb catfish slammed it!! Lol😂
love these longer videos, great healthy creeks NEVER get old.
When I'm stressed I just turn the creek fishing on. Thankyou 😊
Fished Roostertails, Mepps and Panther Martins growing up in the 60’s and 70’s!
All are great but I’d have to choose a Panther Martin if I could only have one!
Great videos!
When i was growing up, this was basically all my dad would fish with. Of course, I have had my fair share of time using it. Green and orange were our go-to. White and gray were another good one. God bless everyone. Great video, brother.
Rooter tails work for many different species Of fish 🐠🐟.Thanks for the video and info ❤
FYI: If you lay the barbs on the hook down with pliers. Fish very easy to release from hook. May loose a few if you don't keep rod tip up. Less damage to the fish.
Yep, I pinch all my barbs. Makes it so much easier to get them off and doesn't hurt them much.
Panther Martin
I have ALOT of luck with a white rooster tail.
1:01 I agree in any size too it's a species getter
It's the magic lure
I have found that Panther Martins are the best lure for trout in the creeks of the upper Midwest as the blade shape thumps the water harder, and the blade directly on the shaft tends to snag less than a Roostertail or Mepps, which connects the blade with a wire loop to the shaft of the lure.
I no longer use trebles. Even on Plugs. For the very reason you struggle to remove hooks. Plus a single hook offers less resistance for a solid hookup.
This is my favorite lure to fish with, and I have it on the same rod as well. You can feel every nip and pull. I like the red fire tiger and bleeding frog colors in 1/16.
I've caught more with rooster tails than anything else. But I never seen a blue gill or anything like that up here. Cute little fish!
My favorite lure. I love catching those little pan fish and then a bass or two will hit it. Thanks John.
How about a beetle spin they worked good to i haves caught bass and other species with them
A lot of times I carry a med light backup rod with a rooster tail tied on since it's a great way to chase away the skunks.
Get some needle nose pliers man.
Or clip some forceps to you.
@@HippieMagic Exactly right them forceps are way better than pliers .
Nah, get some straight forceps and some curved forceps
Definitely some kind of forceps to make your life easier. They're my old American Express commercial...don't leave home without it
@@brianathern9154 Yep, I actually have Loon forceps with the curved tip and hook remover. I use it to pinch barbs and deal with little trebles. It’s definitely easier on me and the fish lol
Rebel Crawfish is one that always works for me.
I've never done any good those inline spinners, but glad you can!🎣👍
Love this Creek Fishing Adventures trip with the Rooster tail. 2 things to try..get some forceps to clamp on your gear, 2nd thing I like is a 1/16 ounce version. Maybe a #0 or #1 ball bearing swivel but the crane swivels work. I do love how the Rooster tail and Beetle Spin are equally opportunity offenders in smaller waters. Always find some fish. Blessings brother
Panther Martin works great. With the blade mounted directly you can slow it down still get great rotation of the blade.
My introduction to Roostertails. Trapper Lake up the trail NW from Stehekin, WA. A easy bush wack with some Devils Handshake. Going up the trail to the lake, I ran into 2 hikers in a big hurry to make the ferry on Lake Chelan. They told me that they had abandoned a rubber raft. Once at the lake it was a easy find. I was the only fisherman up there until a small group arrived. Since I was having terrible luck fishing, I watched them. They seemed to have pretty good luck, so I asked them about the lure they were using, Roostertails. I asked if they had a spare to sell me and they did. My bad luck was over.....
Great video and great job buddy! Enjoyed watching another one of your adventures. Keep doing what you do my friend! #MoreCreekFishingAdventures rocks!
Use needle nosed plyers to deactivate barbs on treble hooks, much easier to release fish and still effective.
Just joined I’ve been watching your other channel last video you said you had another channel awesome
Tube bait with Inserted jig head. Just can't beat the tubes
Coosa bass and musky are on my bucket list of fish to catch.I live in Murfreesboro and plan on making a short trip probably to the Conasauga River to fish for coosa bass.
GO JOHN , GO JOHN ,GO JOHN...LOL🤠🤠🤠 FROM JOE KIDD (COWBOY)
bladed lures work better fished down stream. the lure pushing against the current allows you to slow your retrieve without loosing the action
Someone made a fishing hole out of tires 😂
Just started using a rooster tail this week on my fishing At lunch series! Hooked on them now. Great video John!
I think the action of the lure is much better going against the current in moving water. I always prefer to cast downstream of where I am located.
I’ve caught everything from decent largemouth to redbreast and bluegill on a Bobby Garland baby shad swim’r in monkey milk. Those baits are so good and so durable. I can go over an hour of catching before I feel like I need to change out the bait.
I prefer to use a single hook .i just cut off treble and put a mustad 3366 sproat hook on by opening up eye with a pair of cutters then put on hook and crimp shut .this way if you want you can add a trailer if you want to fish the spinner higher and slower
I put Gamakatsu open eye siwash hook on all my inline spinner. They are made just for that . some trout streams don't allow treble hooks and I have noticed I get better hook up on panfish also. Its easier for them to get a #6 or 8 hook in their mouth than a set of trebels that are usually size 12 hooks you end up with a stronger single hook with a wider bite gap. Just snip the treble becareful not to cut the hairs and put on the siwash hook and close the eye with some needlenose pliers, the siwash come with the eye already open. Also I use a micro ballbearing swivel about half the size of what you were using.
Throw that RT where I fish and you better carry 7 or 8 because it's so hangy, but you might blade up a 5 lb. spot. Thanks for the vid, first class as always...
Blakemore road runners and Strike king Bitsy Minnow are good all species catching lures for me.
When all else fails, throw a roostertail. Everything seem to hit it. Thanks for the video.
Uncut video is good.keep them coming
Rebel Crickhopper can’t be near for multi-species catching… especially in the smaller waters (Feel like I’ve seen u do a video with it tho too). Original Rapala floating minnow, Panther Martin and Mepps spinners are some other suggestions.
I always lose these!!!! 😂😂😂
Try an aluminum case for the GoPro. It will help with the heat dissipation.
Uso cucharillas Rooster Tail de 1/6 , pero me regalaron dos Rooster Tail de 1/4 funcionarán para la pesca de bluegill, saludos, buen video de pesca.
Rooster tail is a great lure, but the key is you have to have that blade spin around at a slow retrieve, no spin, no fish. Down side is the treble hook setup is prone to easy bottom snag ups. I have caught monster size Smallmouth and a state Trophy size Brown trout on them in tiny/shallow water. NEVER use the gold bladed spinner, use the chrome/silver blade in the yellow, red, and white colored weighted bodies.
Wading still, murky, water is fun until a copper head pokes his head up.
Roadrunner!!!!
Nothing gets as many creek bites as in-line spinners. Particularly rooster tails.
If you'd used a smaller rooster tail you would have caught a lot of those misses.
The downside of course is if you're targeting bass, a lot of times the other fish are going to take the lure before the bass does. And although bass do hit in-line spinners, they sometimes don't want to chase a bait when they have so much food available to them with the panfish and minnows they have everywhere. A weighted soft plastic will work in those instances.
BTW, never leave home without your pliers. If you're fishing a rooster tail, bring your pliers...or you may need to kill some fish. Especially aggressive green sunfish who will swallow the dang thing to where it's impossible to get out without pliers.
How about cottonmouth snakes, have you seen many?
Can you make a baitcasting reel tutorial? how to cast, spool, etc..
Sharpen hooks please make sure hook will stick on your finger nail 100% hook up
I like a Joe Fly Spinner better for a creek but its hard to beat a small spinner.
I also like a top water cricket and love fly fishing creeks its so much fun
The bitsy minnow crank bait
Wonder where those small bass go wen they get bigger?
Greetings from Indonesia Greetings from a hobby angler
I'm always amazed at how you aren't scared at all to wade through murky water like that. Have you ever banged your knee or shin on anything or brushed up against something that freaked you out? Or stepped into a hole?
scariest thing he did was fall into that tree at the start. Trees on the river in the south are like a high rise apartment for spiders. Ran my kayak into a dead tree full of like 20 giant river spiders and willingly lost all my shit in the river flipping over to get out of it. Snappers will run from you the trees are a fate worse than death.
Can't be afraid when you wade creeks. Stuff happens and you deal with it. You try and read the water and make smart decisions.
I was fishing the Fox river near Aurora IL in December when I tripped over a submerged log and fell over into 35° water that filled my chest waders. By the time I got back to my car, I was hypothermic and shivering uncontrollably. I had to strip naked in a parking lot while it was snowing and change into dry clothing. It took me almost an hour sipping a hot coffee at the nearby McDonald's to warm back up.
question... are you left or right handed?
You should try Joe flies they catch everything
Great video John. Question for ya, what knot do you tie for your lures? Thanks for the awesome videos and taking us along with you
I'll give y'all a little fishing hack. Buy some fish food (the pellet type they use at the hatcheries), and sprinkle inside where you keep your lures. Your welcome!
Try that again with a Micro rig. You'll have a blast
I fished this lure this morning. Caught some blue gill.
red and white, green and yellow, black and yellow...with silver blades...that's what I grew up on. wonder how they'd to there
sir, have you ever listened to Patrick F McManus' audiobook about fileting bluegills? just curious
love the video, question: how do you keep from hanging up on every root and rock in the creek/river. seems like everytime I cast out i am either catching a tree, rock, or root in the river and then loosing my lure.
John have you ever fished the powell river? Up in Claiborne County or further up into Virginia?
If you ever get to Ohio, hit me up if you want. I have some great spots to hit/float.
Look for the "bumblebee" pattern rooster tail. Seriously
Love the video! I got one of those rooster tails stuck in my leg a few days ago it sucked
Need some pliers man. Cutting the mouth up getting the hook out.
I miss my Mepps #5 al😅😅ready
Love your stuff. Going fishing and it is going to be raining and the water will be muddy and higher then normal In a creek. What do you recommend
usually using a spinnerbait and trying to fish it close to the bank
Are Red Breast good eating?
Where was this?
how did that line twist go? I have issues when using spinner-type lures. I have tried bending the shaft a little.
wasnt a problem but can be over time
Bigger rastertail
My brother and I made a bet while fishing the Kishwaukee river, as to who could catch the smallest smallmouth. I won, with a 1/64th ounce Roostertail.
i love challenges like that
We all just gonna act like we ain't hear the tumbley rumbley at 15.10 ?
11:22 Love shysters and rooster tails for almost almost any kind of fish Have caught everything that you can Catch. Is another relaxing crick Video
Have you used all different sizes
Only thing I don't like about inline spinners is they cause line twist a lot
Use a Palomars knot
Nice video and catches. I want to start posting videos. What do you use to edit your videos? What did you use starting out? Thank you
Resolve is the best free option right now

Can you tell us what Rod you are fishing with?
Lew's Laser HS 6' Medium Lite Spinning Fishing rod.
@@Red_Hot_Eraser Thank you!
@@patrickmurphy8210 No problem, Walmart has them for about 30 bucks. fantastic little rod. I hooked a 6 pound catfish with mine by accident Poor little rod brought it in like a champ
geyt a pylers
Man don't take your knife and get your lure out. Use a pair of needle nose you cut in the fish mouth up.
Mepps
FYI . Fish upstream ! Good grief 🤦
Tying directly to a real rooster tail doesn’t twist and catches lots more fish…jus’ sayin’.
As an avid hunter and fisherman that knife in the mouth to remove the hook is awful, I had to turn my head..you cut that fish's mouth to shreds..perhaps it's because I have pet fish that are almost a decade old and they let me hold them..
OOPS...No Bible verse.
