      Now where to get it in the states for putting on pizza.
      Also what kind of ratio of Za'atar to Olive oil are we talking here?

    • @mr_moustache1997
      @mr_moustache1997 8 лет назад +1

      Dragon Butt you can make it how you want (like a paste or runny) we do it so its not so overpowering but just enough so you get a kick from it, also you dont specifically look for za'atar you buy the different ingredients (oregano or thyme or both, sumac and sesame seeds) and mix them together to create it :)

    For anyone who has trouble separating Israeli culture from the oppression of Palestinians, please let me tell a short story.
    I was going through some boxes of old books that belonged to a deceased relative; one book stood out. It was an unimposing book: small, slim and cheaply bound. It was entitled, "Gems of English Poetry", printed mainly in English with a German glossary and foreword. It was published in Germany in 1926, right between the two World Wars. The book had been thoroughly read, the reader had even cut little tabs into the glossary pages to make looking up words easier. Leafing through the pages of that book had a profound effect on me; to see that even in a time of unrest, where two civilisations were pitted against each other, that one can still appreciate the culture of their supposed enemy, that gave me hope for the future and for the resolution of conflicts like the one in Palestine/Israel. As long as people are able to empathise with each other as human beings and appreciate each other's culture then peace has a chance.
    Yes, this video of Barry's is not political. It is not here to make a statement. It is a light-hearted look at a foreign culture through their food, but this light-hearted tone does not make this video and others like it any less important. In fact the tone makes them even more important, because we are reminded that all cultures and nations are full of ordinary people. We need these reminders to help us separate the actions of governments from the people themselves in our minds.

      Way to ignore my entire point.

    • @stumbling
      @stumbling 8 лет назад +1

      *****
      I am asking people to look past the actions of the Israeli government (which is what several comments have been focusing on) when looking at Israeli people and their culture.
      How can you honestly say Palestinians are not oppressed? Do you not see the bombings, the destruction, the killing of children? You cannot pretend it doesn't happen and that Israel is not the one doing it.
      I say do not judge ordinary people for what is going on and you reply with, "No, the Palestinians are violent, murderous occupiers!" You are a bigot.
      I do not think Hamas are saints either, I think they are vile, worse than the Israeli government.
      If you cannot see people as human beings, if you cannot separate them from their state or religion then you will never have peace.
      If you cannot handle me saying three words to address what others have said in their comments then what hope in hell do you have of finding peace with Palestinians? (Who I'm sure will have more than three words to say.)
      Don't be so dense and full of hatred, do not project your hate onto me or anyone else. You want a fight? Go look in the mirror.

    All of you arguing that "It's called Palestine!"--The person who sent this box to Barry obviously stated that they were from Israel. It happens to be that there are several names for the place, and the person who sent this box calls it Israel. That's why Barry says that the treats are Israeli. I'm sure that if the person who sent the box had referred to the land as Palestine, that is what Barry would have called it in this video. Please, your arguing isn't helping anyone end any conflict. You're only fuelling the anger and hatred. Please try to keep civilised and respectful to each other on this neutral ground.

    • @PuffyRainbowCloud

      But why can't they just be friends now? How about this: the Palestinians call the land Palestine and live happily, and the Israeli call it Israel and live happily. Good deal? Yes? Then stop fighting. It's a matter of name. It's a silly ordeal that has been going on way too long. There's no use in arguing about what to call it and who to live there. It's land. We're all humans. You both pray to the same God, for goodness sake! Just stop the silly fighting. There's no use discussing technicalities after hundreds of years.

    with that oregano spice try the following:
    dredge boneless skinless chicken thighs in olive oil (you can add a tiny bit of sesame or truffle oil), arrange in a baking pan. sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a liberal amount of oregano. bake at 350 until the juices run clear, then serve on rice. very simple, very aromatic, and very satisfying.

    Zattar is a fantastic herb . You can spread it on top of pita bread and drizzle some olive oil. Put in the oven for a few minutes. It is a great snack. Tahine is sesame seed butter. Combine one spoonful of this with one cup chick peas (cooked of course), salt, black pepper, lime juice, one chove garlic, olive oil and a bit of the chick peas cooking water, some parsley. Put it all in a processor or blender. And the olive oil and cooking water to reach the consistency of a rich paté...that is Hummus.

    One last note: The zaatar goes really well on chicken and also on top of bread (I put it on top of challah bread as well as rolls). It also makes a nice addition to a plate of hummus (drizzle a little olive oil and sprinkle the zaatar. It also makes it look fancy af)

    What, peanut associated with sweet stuff? That's the first I've ever heard of it, the vast majority over here associate it with savory and salty stuff, probably due to salted peanuts being so prevalent.

    • @drunkennoodles03
      @drunkennoodles03 8 лет назад

      in the U.S, England UK, and Europe and many other countries we often put peanuts in caramel, or coat cakes,caramel apples,and doughnuts in them. but we also put peanuts in savory dishes to I think it just depends on how you view the peanut, I view it as a very diverse ingredient so it can be used in many different ways

    Actually the falafel treat is a bisli (translation means 'a bite for me') snack too! Just like the grill (orange packaging) & the onion (yellow packaging)😅 also Bamba has no actual meaning it's not an actual word but is coined exclusively as this snack's name. In Israel Bamba is every child's basic snack (especially babies as it melts in their mouths!). Aprono 's name is actually Apropo(which means 'By The Way'), I don't know why it's written there as Aprono.... Je'ami 's name is actually Teami (translation is 'My Taste'). Hope you enjoyed them🤓

    You shouldn't make a filter coffee from this kind of coffee... The more traditional way is to heat water in a small kettle and add the coffee into it and just boil the coffee inside, the second way to make it is to just pour hot boiling water on top of it (1-2 teaspoons of coffee per cup depends on you own taste)

    2:50 the traditional way of eating it is to a little piece of bread in preferably olive oil and dunking it in the Zatar, it'll stick to it and that's how it's eaten. I personally like it, but it's hard to find those in the UK, and it's a pain trying to import it from a different country.
