I'll help you with this one:
Milka isn't swiss. It's austrian. And the italian influent in "Torino" is because we got 4 different laguages in Switzerland, one of 'em is italian. Same for "Callier" which is from the french speaking part.
You were right with your pronunciation of Nugat.
Darvida is a veeery vintage thing ;). It's usually without chocolate and meant to be a typical snack for example for students, 'cause it should be healthy. every swiss child had those in their lunchboxes.
Ovomaltine is actually a chocolate drink (hot milk with the ovomaltine chocolate powder). There's something isotonic in it, so in the advertises you can always see skiers or snowboarders drinking it, talking about how much it helps you to improve for example you endurance during sports. I can't imagine to drink it while I'm in the gym. But it's definitely a "must-drink" during cold days. But they started producing cookies and chocolate bars recently, that's what you got there.
The Basler Leckerli is a gingerbread cookie, with honey and candied fruits in it. Typical for the canton of "Basel" in the North-West of Switzerland. But our country's not that big, so you can have it everywhere and everyone knows it. Like probably everything you got there ;)
Talking about typical things for cantons, the "Katzenzüngli" are typical for the beautiful canton of "Lucerne" .. google this one. this city is just stunning.
That's it. Was fun to see you enjoying our sweets!

sorry I know I'm almost a year late but my mum is Swiss and we have a recipe book that has the Leckerli thing in it but its called Hausleckerli. It's in German but ill try my best to translate.
    350g flour
50g chopped orange and lemon peel
a large pinch of cloves powder
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp salt
    250g honey
    125g sugar
    100g chopped hazel nuts
It needs to be rolled out to about 1cm thick and cooked for 5-10 minuted at 200 degrees celcius
    for the topping;
    100g icing sugar
    1 tbs lemon juice
and some water if needed (it should be a runny consistency)
I hope this helped and would love to see you try it out

  • @WindspriteM
    @WindspriteM 10 лет назад +4

The ricola has the stress on the "i", so it's not ricola but ricola.
Heart in German is "Herz", Herzli is a Swiss belittlement, so it means "Heartlet".
Leckerli's translations is already part of the video name -it means treat.

Alright, here is some «Läckerli/Leckerli/Läggerli» education. Leckerli means something like «goodie» or «treat», but is a very old-fashioned expression. The ones you had are from Basel, my hometown, you can find them everywhere here. As a child, I didn't like them, they were too chewy and the nuts stuck to my teeth. But now, I like them a lot. The recipe is hundreds of years old and comes from a time when many of our treats would be honey- and spice based. There are other biscuits called Lekerli from the areas of Bern and Zurich, but the recipes are very different, although all are nut-based. There are actually quite a lot of biscuit-like treats in Switzerland that resemble gingerbread, like for instance the «Biber» or «Biberli», which sounds like the German word for beaver, but it's derived from another old word. They're basically round patty-shaped gingerbreads with an almond-paste filling, and are a popular snack all year round. When you go for a hike in the Swiss alps or in the hills, be sure to pack some ovomaltine bars and some Biberli.

Milka is swiss: On 17 November 1825, the SWISS chocolatier Philippe Suchard (1797-1884) established a pâtisserie in Neuchâtel, where he sold a hand-made dessert named chocolat fin de sa fabrique and began manufacturing chocolates the next year. In 1901 the Suchard company had the MILKA trademark registered.

A little History of Swiss Läckerli:
The Basler Läckerli (also Leckerli or Läggerli, lecker meaning "delicious" in German and -li being a diminutive suffix) is a traditional hard spice biscuit originating from Basel, Switzerland. It is made of honey, hazelnuts, almonds, candied peel, and Kirsch. The flat baked dough is, when still hot, cut into rectangular pieces. It is then topped with a sugar glaze.
Basler Läckerli were originally created by local spice merchants over 700 years ago and is available year-round.

Der Uhrsprung scheint einfach irgendwas mit einem Schweizer zu tun zu haben aber das macht Milka ja nicht direkt zu einer Schweizer Marke.

For a Swiss living in the UK, your video made my mouth water. Your parcel included a few of my favourites.
A pity the parcel didn't include Zweifel Paprika Chips (crisps in the UK) you'd love those too.

As a Swiss person it's very funny to watch this video :D I'm glad that you liked our most known treats! It's really a lot of good chocolate in our country. The Ricola candy isn't really a medicine, we eat it like all the other candies... The one you tasted was the classic one and because of the real herbs in it, it is also helping like a medicine. There are also many other flavours - like lemon or any kind of berry.
Well I really enjoyed this video and it's funny to hear you pronouncing this brands so funny ;)

you know, alot of stuff in switzerland has a french name, for example Cailler, since we have 3 languages here hahah so it's kinda funny when you try to pronounce it german..ish :'D

If you ever come to Switzerland you gotta to try Malakofs, they're deep fried cheese balls. They are exclusive to only one region, The Vaud Region. They are best from a restaurant in a town called Luins. Just thought I should share that.

It's funny because i live right around the corner of a little shop and you can find all of that stuff in there, so i've been eating all that chocolate since i was really young.
But what i find weird is that when i went to england, i was at the airport and there were half a dozen different flavors of Toblerone which you can't get ANYWHERE in Switzerland!
