Reminds me of the Two Minute Rule from Atomic Habits. Break down your habit you want to build where you can just do it for two minutes. Works well when it comes to writing, meditation and reading.
@@okabeokuyasu2505 David Goggins isn't perfect in all areas. He's insanely good in powering through hardships with grit, but there's something to be said of being content with yourself while striving to improve. Not beating yourself down if you don't grind and hustle day in day out like a madman.
#2 is the most overlooked topic in Self Improvement. Accountability with people close to you or even online can skyrocket your growth. This quote sums it up perfectly. "Poverty, I realized, wasn’t only a lack of financial resources; it was isolation from the kind of people who could help you make more of yourself." Keith Ferrazzi
Last advice works. I have made it a habit to do 1 push up a day... Currently doing 180 /day, but I do have days where I only do 1 when I don't feel like doing. Yet the day is successful.
I cried the whole time i was watching this. The stress was so overwhelming. I know that i have to get back on track and I will, but i cant stop stressing about it.
I saw this video on my feed and at first I was like "not worth it, it'll probably be some cliché 'just drop the senseless stuff and get back to it' advice". Later today after failing at doing something, I considered watching it just in case there was some good advice and I was pleasantly proved wrong. Good job.
0:38 Expect a downfall pessimistic approach But when you fall directly have a plan for it. Make a tree of options 1:29 Do things with friends and make them hold you accountable 2:15 Waking up Sam Harris 2:48 Do less than you think you can handle. It's about a marathon not a sprint
Dude, thank you for putting this out there! I had like 3 apple pies the other night (you know, I totally could've had just one!). Granted, I'm in the gym (weights and cardio) 5-6 days a week but I really didn't need to eat 3 apple pies (that 'might-as-well' syndrome). On a more serious note, I do struggle with allowing myself to get off track with my work at times. I work for myself and there are those times when I feel stuck and anxiety starts to take over. For that, I'm going to grab the book you recommended in your email (4/27/2021) The Art of Effortless Results. I'm getting better at focusing more on what moves the needle forward these days but I still find myself sometimes avoiding those things and working on stuff that's really just busy-work as it's not helping me progress.
Definetely going to follow your advice : "Do less than you think you can handle" I resonates so much with it. I often force myself to do things that I think I can handle. And yeah, it resulted in me burning out for the whole day, or even worse, for the whole week. And its actually so hard to get back on track. Thanks for the advice Tim!
im such the type of guy who either does it all, or not at all. I cant half-ass anything.. If i do it, I do it at full clip and 100%, or i dont do it at all. I wish I didnt operate in that way sometimes, as it can hinder my productivity/motivation, but when im on... Im fucking ON. With theses pandemic times, having to close my jiu-jitsu school off and on, it has been a TASK to get back on track and very unmotivating. I keep falling off tracks and getting back on, but when my whole world isnt functioning like i want to, I tend to kinda give in. Working on it, but this helps me tremendously. Thank you Tim!
I was very active, working out daily, keeping diet for a period of 7+ years. And honest to God I have no idea when did I stop or why did I stop... All I know is that my body started to hate me for it.
excellent ideas! I've been there so many times. I now see it as a grand pattern. It is much worse to feel shitty about yourself for going off plan. I know that If I just stay excited about my goals I'll get back in the gym sooner. I like to lower all my weights to make it gentle on my body and mind until I feel ready to go back up. It is normal and natural to have breaks so build them in or take advantage of what life throws your way. We can always begin again and make great gains no matter now long we've been off plan and no matter how old you are! Get back to it. You'll feel so much better. I promise.
even if tim doesnt read comments, perhaps the community will see. followed tim since 2015, liking these new bitesize videos. like the long form interviews. good to listen and follow
Have a plan 1. Do anything with a friend & keep each other accountable. 2. Sam Herris meditation - Let go & Start again. 3. Do less than you think you can handle. Make it easy to pass.
Small correction: the second Sam Harriss meditation is called "Begin Again''. I double checked the Waking Up app. It's #4 in the Fundamentals category.
This is just what I needed, I've just started eating healthy and trying to get my health back and I am/was terrified of falling off the wagon. Thanks for the advice.
You will. People often think they'll always be motivated, because they've been motivated in the beginning (starting new habits is always exciting), but you won't. That's when you have to rely on your discipline, on the fact that you believe what you do is important, and the fact that you want to become the best you can be regardless of how you're feeling on any given day. Unsolicited pep talk!
Download the waking up app. And because Sam Harris is an absolute star, if you email him saying you'd like to try the app, he gives you a year free. (I think its more to do with accessibility. If you can't afford it he still wants you to benefit) I did it for a year and I am soon going to pay for the second year. Hope this helps.
Thanks for another great bit of knowledge and insight. I think the 'start again' notion holds so much power, and I never really looked at things that way.
Feels like a lot of those slip ups are coming very soon with the world opening up again after series of lockdowns where everyone worked from home and used their extra time for other side hustles. Doing less or at least considering the reopening when you're starting something new these days realy matters as Tim mentions on the last one...
*"Do less than you think you can handle"* is very underrated, constantly reminding myself of that.👏👏 I always avoided putting money on the line with a friend, but $1?? I now have no excuse.🤣🙌
This last week I've been eating very unhealthy and more and this week I wanna get back on it. I usually eat only 1 meal a day to lose weight but this week I ate 2 meals along with snacks hope It's get better ☹️
This is what I needed to hear today. Simple, sage advice that is a valuable reminder to use the tools in your toolbox. Just can no longer support Sam Harris after listening to his BLM disinformation. Per usual, he seemed calm, calculated and intelligent in his argument but if you actually know about the subject it is clear that he is manipulating the data to confirm his point. I had used his Waking Up app and listened to his podcast for a couple of years and was disappointed and angry at what I was hearing. He is super believable and dangerous. Don't be fooled by Sam Harris.

“Do LESS than you think you can handle” that so counter to conventional self help advice and thats why I love it

#3 doing less than you think you can handle is GOLD. Tim’s writing process is the target of 2 crappy pages per day - and his body of writing is vast.
Good point! 🤔
Tim doesn’t read comments, but I’ll add one anyway to push this valuable content to more people.

You're a true angel Tim Ferriss!!!!!!! Such a wonderful and incredible soul and beautiful inside and out ♥️
Thank you Tim for sharing these golden nuggets of knowledge and insight.

@3:31 “whether it’s with psychedelics”, haha, precious advice Tim ;). Thanks for the great video! Starting again and going back to work now.
I hope this helps many, thank you Tim!

Right on time!
These are some great points. Sometimes the most simple reminders can be the most profound. Keep up the great work Tim. 👍
Love these Tim. The down side is that you'll put all self improvement gurus out of business! 😁

Just here to please the algorithm gods and support Tim’s content. 🙌😌
I love this, it addresses this lifestyle design stuff because we all slip up.

Your contributions are bloody wonderful.
Thanks Tim, you're great!
good stuff Mr. Ferriss, this was exactly the message I needed to hear today.
Someone knows where to find the „start again“ meditation?

Did you find it? I can’t find it in the waking up app either.
I always eat 100 cookies and the I start again.
Same, I can’t find it online or on the app
Google "Begin Again Sam Harris". It's the first website that comes up
This video came at the best time for me. Thanks Tim Ferriss
This is hands down the simplest yet best advice I’ve heard in a while. Thanks Tim!
“Might as well eat 100 cookies” 😆 felt that
😂🤗
This video was perfectly time. Thank you.
Appreciate you keep these videos around 5 minutes
Thank you, Tim.
Exercise and language-learning--two habits that I'm trying to create. It's almost like Tim created this video for me.
You're the man Tim. I think I need to do some simple videos like this.
Hey Tim,
Loving the videos. I'd love it if you did something about managing Bi-Polar disorder and entrepreneurship
Tim is underrated
Thanks for another great bit of knowledge and insight. I think the 'start again' notion holds so much power, and I never really looked at things that way.
Tim is the BEST
Thank you Tim. As always, your insight hits the spot
Great, Awesome, I'll follow this from today onwards...
Thank you, Tim! Found this video at the perfect time.
Doing less than you think you can handle pretty much guarantees consistency, once you get over that initial hump it gets easier to "add" over time.
Just what I needed. Thanks Tim !
Excellent video. Thank you
Great info
this came right on time! Tank you mister Ferriss
Love you dude, thanks for all you do!
Thank you Tim! I will try this out thy week!

Hahaha. I love the reference to psychedelics when he says do less than you think you can handle!
Hi Tim 😊
I needed this video a while ago lol
Skip to 1:35 for tips on getting back on track.
Starting small is a great way to just start and pick up a habit. Great advice as always!
Going to try this on my agoraphobia lol, hopefully it will work on exposure therapy
Hey good luck! :)
