My guy! Ease up on the filter! 😅 It only requires hand tightening! Let the gasket do its job! lol I’m an auto technician (not a mechanic) of over 10 years, I’ve never used a filter wrench to install a filter. You run the risk of 2 things, 1) the filter having bad oil flow, & 2) the gasket will come loose & get stuck onto the filter housing assembly. (it does mater on this specific vehicle since the filter is on top)
I didn’t wrench on it too hard! But yes will be careful
Lol hand tight, not as tight as you can with your hand
Did mine on Sunday, what an absolute pleasure of an oil change... start to finish maybe 12 minutes... Crazy not having to drop trays and having no filter mess.
I do like the top side oil filter location
that looks super nice, white with the gold wheels. You sure that is the right filter? Seems like the smaller unit used on the non-turbo motors?
if you hold the gas and press start 2x it pumps the oil in without starting ;)
I used to be a Subaru tech for 3 years the crush washer on the drain plug is suppose to go round side to pan so it crushes against the pan and not crush against the bolt
Shouldn't they just be using 5W 30 on that thing?
@@archiewilson4943 Owners manual says 0w20. Best to stick with that, you don't want to give them a reason to void the engine warranty.
@@archiewilson4943you should only be using 5w30 if you live somewhere in the south or where weather gets up to 90+ degrees. The US and CANADA changed the oil to 0W20 bc of better gas mileage and EPA. also, the manual even states you can use 5W30 if you’re in a pinch however recommends to switch back to 0W20.. Japan and Euro are recommended 5W30… if you baby your car or used as a grocery getter, stick to 0W20..
0-20 the bigend bearings will love that
I changed mine at 1,100 miles and it was very simple!
Yes, pretty simple especially with the top side oil filter
thats crazy 0w-20 , i started running penzoil 5w-30 and it runs great with no issues at all. i do my oil changes every 3000-4000 miles. and i run a STP Oilfilter , was reading reviews and the reviews are true they work great and i havent had any problem.
The young Subaru expert mechanics in your comments always make me 😂
They’re engagement is much appreciated
pretty color on the oil how do i get flaked oil like that is it oem?
Solid, the only thing I'd roast you on is the extra tightening measures you took on your filter.. lol HAND TIGHTEN ONLY! Nice ride though..
Thanks! Ill have to check the tightness after the last few hundred miles and maybe ill redo it (looser)
The Japanese manual states for the FB25 engine to run 0w20 for the environmental concerns and 5w30 if you want engine longevity! I'm about at my first oil change on my FB25 and I'm having a hard time committing two 0w20 oil.
Might be overkill, but I am waiting on a delivery of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w40.
I went to the dealer and they had the black filters. Why use the lesser blue one?
What kinda rims are you rockin???
How is your car running with amsoil? I'm about to do my first oil change and was thinking about using the signature series 0-20.
It’s running decent but with spring and summer coming, we’re switching to Motul 5w-40 since it’s frequently 90-100 degrees here in summer in Tennessee
I also run AMSoil in my 2019 S209
I want to see this ride at the drag strip to see if any gains were made with those performance mods.
Sounds good! Will test ASAP
Drag strip just shows how much money someone has or dumped into their ride. The road course is a test of driver and car.
@@hostak1026 True.
I’m hoping to do the same setup with the intake, inter cooler, and catback on my WRX when it comes in. Have you guys noticed any difference in HP or had a chance to take it to a dyno? Someone online claimed this setup added about 40 whp
Have you done it already? I’m thinking of doing the same to my wrx
@@JoseRodriguez-um8jm ended up not buying it after I had it delivered to the dealer. Insurance was $340 a month 😂
@@WreckFatal lmao don’t you get it for free Jake from STATE FARM? 🤣 yeah my insurance is like $300 which I’m not happy about.
Why are you using the same filter that is used on the 21 Outback? Isn’t the filter part number different for the WRX??
Needed to do an oil change and Subaru oil filters are Subaru oil filters. Will order the “right” filter to build up a bench stock
@@WIDEBODYNATION It would be nice to be able to use the same filter on both my 21 Outback Limited XT and my 22 WRX. I’m new to being a Subaru owner. I’ve had at least one BMW in my garage for the last 12 years. I have zero now. That’s another story for a different day. I’m glad to see the DIY videos coming out. I’m the guy who can’t leave well enough alone. Now I have two vehicles that I can basically add the same engine upgrades to. Scary!!😲
Did you order that Jb4 yet...? 🤔
Not yet, are you able to tune it?
@@WIDEBODYNATION yes it’s a tuner and comes with some base maps
@@WIDEBODYNATION it look like any can with the phone app
@@WIDEBODYNATION Yes it has the option for a custom map. Just finished dialing mine in and its fantastic.
Fumoto oil valve is a fantastic mod my guy.
The black 170 filter is sold at Subaru dealerships in the states, The blue 15a filter used in this video is incorrect, That filter is for no turbo engines
It’s the same filter I have on my 21 Outback XT. OEM anyway. I’m partial to WIX filters though.
@@Rick4345 so XT's and ascent get the blue filter, wrx's the black filter, and sti's get a smaller blue filter. Well at least if you are taking it in to a subaru dealership
That looks like the wrong filter for the wrx. The wrx filter is shorter with a larger girth.
Mmmmm girth
@@WIDEBODYNATION Happy to hear you speak for the women in your family!
I got the 22 wrx Did my first oil change at 2000 miles, couldn’t get to it at 1000 miles found fine metal glitter I’m my oil, and burned significant amount of oil 4.7L to 3.2L
From watching rest of video seems very common for first oil change, but the wrx does consume about a quart or little less in that 2000 miles.
Haven’t ran it hard yet, just daily 30min freeway commute to work *side note from my experience.
If I waited till 6k miles to change the oil, oil levels would be extremely low. Probably way under 3Qrts
Yeah definitely a bad idea to wait to change the oil at 6k for Many reasons
That’s a lot of oil consumption
Next time put the whole 5qts in there it will be perfect
Why do you say that?
@@WIDEBODYNATION Subaru's weakness is always oil plus all boxer engines naturally burn a little oil. I've probably changed oil on about 1000+ Subaru's due to being a dealership technician. Trust me just put the whole 5 in there
@@WIDEBODYNATION I can tell you THAT is why I do my own oil changes 😅
Why didn’t you prime the oil filter?
@waybach he oiled up the gasket, that's all you can do in this case. If you put oil in the filter, it's just going to make a mess and go everywhere because it needs to be tipped upside down to install.
Steve, glad I can be the one to teach you whats called the Flat Foot Crank on the 2022+ VB’s.
As you stated, since the oil filter is top mounted and can’t be manually filled before installing, this is the method to prime the oil in the VB’s:
Hold the gas pedal and clutch all the way to the floor and hold it, then push the start button. The engine will crank over but won’t start. This will fill the filter. After it stops, release the gas pedal and start it normally. This avoids the engine starting and being oil starved for a few seconds while the filter fills.
Hope I was able to kick some knowledge!
@@waybach lol that'd have to be done every time you start the vehicle, as the filter will always be drained of oil when the engine is shut off. The filter orientation is not unique to the VB, every Subaru I've owned had a top mounted oil filter and I've never done that. Never had any engine issues and it's not mentioned in my owner's manual as a recommendation. I won't be doing it, I am not that paranoid.
@@steve8803 it’s not that deep bro.. You literally do it once after an oil change. You’re right you probably won’t ever need to do it. Some people change their filters more than once in between an oil change. Is it necessary? No. But we do it just as a precaution to ensure longevity to our motors. Yes I said we bc OP is literally the only person that doesn’t use this method during a YT oil change video. after owning a few EJ’s you’ll take that extra step brother. . I never came to disrespect either . I’m 39 years old been doing this for a while. Just thought I’d give my 2 cents; take what you want from it. You can ignore it completely tbh.. Peace brother.
@@waybach if you are using the logic that it needs to be done first start after an oil change because the filter has no oil in it, why wouldn't you always do it? Gravity drains the oil out of the filter every time the engine is shut off. You make zero sense.
If you want to be super-preventative, you can replace the filter halfway through the oil life to better extend the longevity.
Yea man, using that shitty blue oem filter really triggered me, didn’t even cold crank start the car to cycle the oil thru the system… yikes 😂
As if it actually cared about this car long term. #life Time power train warranty
lol that’s the spirit
Ughh, that blue skinny filter is kind of cringe compared to the original. Thanks for the video so I can try and order one closer to the original!
That is a new thing nobody did that until kids like you hahah
Oh shit you from VA? Me too
From MD originally
Nice Fram oil filter on the civic LOL
That oil is literally water, why does it need to be soo thin?
EPA, Obama and Biden
@@AntilleanConfederation Bidenomics
0w-20?!? That’s thinner than water… good job subaru…
Seems like they did it for the fuel efficiency or something
When I took mine into the dealer for service they put in 5w30 lol
I run 5w40 motul in my sti. The oem 5w30 sheered down to 5w20 by like 2k into my 3k oil changes.
It’s for fuel efficiency. Honda does the same thing now in their 2.0L and 1.5T engines. They say it themselves.
The “0W” part is important for winter cold starts so your engine gets lubrication when the oil is still very cold.
