@@RobBeatdownBrown Not to be a pain or anything but can we get a notation version because I love your videos but it takes me ages to master the groove unless I write the notation and there is no notation here so I have to write from what you play which isn't easy.
For all the people who be wanting the notation, a word of advice: Write the notation yourself! Yes, you’re going to have to keep going back and re-listening a hundred times, but believe me, it’s worth it! You will know the groove inside and out, and it’s also great practice in deep listening. Just try it!
Love your style of teaching. Slow it down, break it down, take it apart, put it back together, build it back up, speed it up! It's awesome!! Thank you for your instruction.
Stellar video. I watched as a bassist cause I'm learning more about funk, and I love how you slowed down and sped up each groove. It was fun to play along with in my head without my instrument in hand, and no doubt opened up a world of imagination.
Wonderful lesson. Really love how you break down these grooves into separated little parts, imo that takes even more time and energy than just simply throwing a PDF at us. Greatly appreciate all your lessons!
Man that was FUUUNNKY! I lived down in Margate FL for years. I'm in Jacksonville FL. 51yrld old timer trying to learm from the best YOU! thank u for been you.
really love that you kept diving in deep with each groove, so I can sink in with it to figure out the overall body gesture to play it naturally. Thank you, so informative!
Bro this is one of the best drum lessons I’ve seen ! I love how u break this shit down to basic form ! And take time to really teach this shit ! So many other people just buzz thru the matierial, but u break it down to simplistic ! Thank u
"Since you been gone" by Mr. James Brown is still one of the tightest and nastiest funk songs written ever... Bootsy and Clyde are in lock down mode!!!
THAT SNARE!!!! It like sucking on a lemon, bitter but you still want MORE!!! Lol The whole kit sounds killer. Those mics made a huge difference. Well done.
My favorite era was when blues rock was king. Think Cream, Led Zeppelin especially in their early days . I never got into funk, which is a serious lack in my drumming education. These are great grooves, expertly taught. Thank you for making the world safe for people who want to learn to play music 🎶.
Thanks Rob , great lesson, awesome teaching skills, I Love groove, I'm 63 and the first time I heard Sly family stone, white drummer on "Midnight Special.....I was so inspired..Plus I hear your playing tunes with Jacob Moon....a fellow brother
Thank you for this. Your video is very helpful (well, all of them!) and Funk is probably the most fun to play on drums (from a rock, jazz, blues, latin, reggae, classical lover). Keep those videos coming, and super thanks again!
I dig all the videos of yours that I watched- esp since I’m 2 months into drumming at an oldeR age. But I just got to say man/ the best era of funk was the 70’s ! Disco as well. But just saying. Hardcore metal really started early 80’s. I was there lol Rock on man- your knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Rob your spot on! These young drummers have no clue about funk! All those groove you played is pure funk hands down!! Hat off to you to showing those 5 funk grooves. Keep it up,you are doing a good job!!
You're right! Those are 5 really cool funk grooves. Your teaching style rocks. Sorry grooves. Ain't no Bruno Mars funk on your watch. Thanks for all the work you put into this video and thanks for putting this up.
The Meters were amazing, same with the super taylors, shotgun, and miles davis "on the corner" and maybe "big fun". patience self control and ears open nto the groobve others are locked into.this video is perfect breakdown of funky grooves.good snare drum sound!
Thanks Rob! I get excited when you have new videos posted. You must've known we needed some Funk prescribed to bring good vibes during these crazy times. Also, man I love that shirt! I was born in 1970 and still cherish memories of watching Sanford and Son with my grandpa when I was a wee lad. I still watch reruns of Sanford and Son, M*A*S*H, The Jeffersons, Good Times.....so much better shows back then than today. Take care and peace and love to all!
This video got you a subscriber. Other than the third groove, which I personally thought had a more latin vibe (I’m a cold, cold, bass-snare-and-hats guy myself lol), these grooves be FUNKY! I’m a beginner, and I’m having a blast learning these. STAY FUNKY ROB!!
Brother Rob thanks for the video. Keep them coming. Also the second beat almost reminds me of an old James Brown song. I got the feeling. Love your videos. Thanks.
Rob...I just love this video...I have learned so much and your grooves have expanded my coordination in ways no other grooves could have...I am convinced of that...plus they are so fun to play..thank you
You Rock, Best instructor for me ever!!! Awesome to find out you spent time in S. Florida!!! Keeping it real up in Stuart. Lot's of talent around here so I gotta keep on my game! Thank You and please dont stop making these videos! When you get a chance find an old recording of the Young Rascals doing "Mickey's Monkey. What is Dino Danelli doing with that right hand??? Also, please make some tank tops or those sweat wicking- sun blocking long sleeves and I'll buy more merchandise!! F'n Hot here in the summer!!!!
Hey Man, you taught me how to play 12/8 Purdie shuffle! Thank you bro! I'm really starting to become much better at drummin because of this channel, but I do miss the notes sometimes. Even though your teaching is great I still miss the notes, just a heads up :D
Wow...lets just talk #1! Such a cool beat. I just "got it" (not mastered, but can PLAY it!) This should be required for all beginners instead of AC/DC (lol) It's cool because: 1. You can dance to it, already. 2. Uses a (slightly tricky) displacement (snare) technique. 3. The double hit on bass must be "nailed' or the rhythm crumbles instantly. (So you KNOW you are off, as opposed to some rock beats) 4. It's fun as hell. Thanks Rob.
You haddd to do em with the Funky Drummer. Everybody that’s ever touched a drum set should know that groove.
Facts! 💯 Or at least know about it
It's harder than it sounds

Yeh, I didn’t know about it. Thanks!!
Honestly most of the other funk drumming videos don't even come close to the level of groove these beats have. This is proper funk

Yep,I do it on guitar pro.
He ain’t lyin
You Are The Best at deconstructing the Funkin the Heck out of each groove.
That shirt. I gotta have it. Fred Sanford is my spirit animal.

Hello Mr Rob Brown. Been digging your videos for a few years.
Thank you for the hard work and inspiration
Be Well
Funk grooves, like jazz, is a must for all kind of drummers..No matter style and tastes. Good stuff here.
Stellar video. I watched as a bassist cause I'm learning more about funk, and I love how you slowed down and sped up each groove. It was fun to play along with in my head without my instrument in hand, and no doubt opened up a world of imagination.
I like how you take the time to slow it down. Got some great rhythms there, Rob.
Wonderful lesson. Really love how you break down these grooves into separated little parts, imo that takes even more time and energy than just simply throwing a PDF at us. Greatly appreciate all your lessons!
Beat 5 is exactly the same as the song from the Scofield album 'Uberjam'. The song is called I Break For Monster Booty.
Gold. Thank you
The best breakdowns. Time to hit the woodshed, got some cleaning to do now.
I'm a new drummer (one month in). I absolutely got weak at the title of the first groove. Recognized it immediately.
Really excellent stuff. That slinky Funkadelic groove really makes you anticipate the 1.
Love your videos. Thank you Mr. Brown.

Oh man I like the slowdown and 'track' deletion demoing. That's really useful and well done.
Love The Funk Like Brother James & The Flames🤘🏻🥁
Way to go! Love em. Older drummer here liking the funky stuff likely. Funky Drummer is a good groove too.
Many thanks

My favourite one was the secong one 'The Stubbs' (4:20)
It was like.. Unpredictable cause most groves are continueing and have like no pause and stuff

Thanks for nice post-hardcore grooves, bro :)
We can hear something like this in Daniel Davison playing
Wow...lets just talk #1!
Such a cool beat.
I just "got it" (not mastered, but can PLAY it!)
This should be required for all beginners instead of AC/DC (lol)
It's cool because:
1. You can dance to it, already.
2. Uses a (slightly tricky) displacement (snare) technique.
3. The double hit on bass must be "nailed' or the rhythm crumbles instantly.
(So you KNOW you are off, as opposed to some rock beats)
4. It's fun as hell.
Thanks Rob.
I am a rocker but , I love funky beats ,I really like the Chili Peppers ,Suck my kiss ,I call that song ,heavy funk.Keep it up Rob .
Ooh I agree about those doubles! These grooves are great for practicing nice tight doubles!
I’m a beginner, but I’m obsessed with nailing down the nitty gritty 😅

Rob, that was great! Thank you! Could you please do a top 5 list of Vinnie grooves?
