The reason this song is important is that many think metal is just screaming and banging on a guitar. This song showcases that these guys are truly talented and are a treasure.
People who think that are ignorant and don't know what they're missing. Metal bands have made the most beautiful ballads from the beginning. It's just easier to listen to the shit that's being pushed down everyone's throats without thinking, instead of exploring more music. Cause that would take effort..
Actually, metal is about screaming and banging on a guitar. Occasionally, there is a guy here and there who get to say something and whose voices do not hide behind instruments, like in this song; but let us not take an exception and make it the rule.

My Husband and Iare in our late 50'and early 60’s. We have been listening to the sound of silence probably over a hundred times! We are in total agreement that's there's very few songs in this lifetime that can pull that kind of emotions and truly amazing voice. Gives me goosebumps every time. Sorry Simon and Garfunkel but he blew you guys out of the water! Thank you Disturbed!
The true sign of greatness in any artist. No one exists in a vacuum, and the ability, and humbleness, to recognize and admit that despite personal succes, there's still others that do your own things better than you, is what drives these very people to be the best of all.
No lie. David has so much masculine bass in his singing voice, that my ovaries rattle. ...That masculine energy that makes me very aware of my femininity. He's amazing.
Funny thing. For as intense and angry as he looks, he's probably the nicest famous person I've ever met. Used to work at a concert venue, and he spent HOURS...just having random conversation with fans after his post-show signing. He was still there as the staff was leaving - and his managers actually had to pull him away. Genuinely amazing.
So damn jealous. Seen these guys live but never had the pleasure to catch them after the show. Would love the chance to get a. Autograph or share a pint with them. Disturbed have been the centre of my love for rock and metal since I got lent a copy of their prayer album
@@morganv.9325 (I say this in a joking but serious way...) But; if you killed someone to be one of those fans, he probably wouldn't want to see you and would probably look at you in a negative light🙃.
Best comment I ever read about this cover was something along the lines of: The original was a cautionary tale, a warning about where we would all be headed if we continued the way we were. The Disturbed version is a bitter and melancholy death cry from the generation that realizes it's too late. Edit: Holy shit 1.1k likes!? Wow, I'm humbled
Thank You... was going to say that myself. many of the reactionary video makers here, don't even get to what the song is about.. I am old enough to remember when Simon and Garfunkel came out with that, while it was more up beat in tempo, it was cautionary of the future if we kept on a certain path, done in almost a "folk" song style.. Davids cover version, is darker, more potent telling us it is damn near too late and we may never leave the path that we chose.. But, his voice, God Damn, his voice just drives in the point.
SecondBreakfast : I was looking for this comment as it affects me the same way! When I first watched it, I wasn’t expecting all that much but ....... oh my❗️This is now one of my favorite videos of all time and the song is spectacular! 👏👏👏👏👏👏. FYI: I watched the “Beatles” when they were on Ed Sullivan, when I was a young teen.
I absolutely love what listening to this version does to me! I can listen and watch it over and over and never get bored with it...it's one of my all time favourites ❤
David is actually a trained opera singer which is why he can sing the way he does. His voice is trained in a way that he can still do his "screams" and won't damage his vocal chords.
I assumed he had to have at least moderate opera training to get that resonance in his voice while his mouth remains almost completely closed. Its so simple but so god damn hard to do
Did you know Alex? Simon and Garfunkel posted to disturbed, that this is the best cover of their song and they personally think that no one can beat this cover. True facts too, best cover of this song. Link to an article about the response from Paul Simon! www.google.co.uk/amp/www.metalinjection.net/shocking-revelations/paul-simon-really-likes-disturbeds-sound-of-silence-cover-so-does-russel-crowe/amp
Dave Cobb in land where dreams are made up then I could see that but nah these did it the best! Everyone entitled to there own opinion and simon and Garfunkel said this was the best cover of there song so, yanoe I’ll keep listening to the main men ;)
LetsGrindGames you are correct some people just like whiney baby versions of a song that didnt have that original feel. David gayman crying into a microphone just isnt palatable for me personally.
Prior to this, the only similar experience I’ve ever had was the choral version of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for strings. I’ve always loved the original (long before ever seeing Platoon) but something equally transformative happens when you put people’s voices to it rather than strings; definitely tear-worthy. Agnus Dei: ruclips.net/video/AiuC_CaObbI/видео.html It’s slower than the original, but there’s just something about the choral arrangement that just indescribably enhances the whole thing, much in the way Disturbed did here. Not to everyone’s taste, but if it is, you’ll know. :)
“And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made” this line always grabs me as I feel it’s prophetic to the next lines... it’s also another warning to us all.
David is a classically trained singer. He's in complete control. He effortlessly went back to a perfectly clear voice at the end of all that grid. Love, love, love this cover.
As a musician, I can say this song by disturbed is the BEST song I have ever heard....hair standing up on end...tears streaming down my face...outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deborah T - It makes me cry, people I know and care about have died and not a year from me.. I don't cry but this, this version of this song gets to me, I cry. The live performance on Conan gives me goosebumps and goes right through me.
Update: you might like the Howard Jones iteration of Killswitch Engage. He was also classically trained in opera, but ended up in a metal band. (I recommend starting with the song "The End Of Heartache"). 🤟
David, and Disturbed as a whole, are (to me) the pinnacle of hardrock / metal in this decade. I understand everyone has tastes and what not, but David Draiman has this ability to convey emotion (across the whole range, I've heard him do it with rage, anger, disgust, pride, sorrow, regret and catharsis separately) along with some real talent, a powerhouse voice and the balls to use it all. Disturbed pulls me into emotional states more than any other metal band. You don't just hear David Draiman, you feel him. And that's why Disturbed is fucking incredible. Needless to say I liked this song, and I'm only surprised so many people are surprised that he can do this. He's done stuff like this before, a bunch. Deep track Disturbed is best Disturbed.
I seem to recall he’s operatically trained, and has worked with the best rock vocal coach in the industry pretty much from the beginning. Add to it being freakishly talented, and having, as you note, the balls to actually go for some of these unexpected angles for stuff, make him, and Disturbed as a whole, part of the pantheon of music, not just metal.
Nazgulth you are dead on bro. Draiman's voice is piercing, it conveys intense energy and emotion, it can amp you up so incredibly and in the case of Sound of Silence, it left me emotionally shaken. I can literally remember hearing it for the first time on radio and having to pull over, and quietly and silently wept as I heard a fantastically beautiful song performed by my favourite band, and the result was mind blowing and stabbed right into my soul. To say it was beautiful is a massive massive understatement. Peace bro.
The first time I ever heard this version, I bawled. I love the Simon and Garfunkel version, but I truly understood and felt the lyrics in a different way when I heard this.
I felt the same way then I heard someone say something that made me see it in an even different way... Imagine while you listen to it again... having lost a child to mental illness - depression/suicide ... imagine listening as the parent... that will blow your mind. David and Disturbed when you think of that will truly leave you ... disturbed...
@@nobodyshome You're spot on. Think of the most tragic thing in the US that happened in the early 1960's ... the assassination of President Kennedy. Sound of Silence was written shortly after. Clearly the affects of the assassination shock S & G along with the public to the core. If that wasn't powerful enough, roughly 50 yrs later Disturbed does their version of the song and just sends chills up and down everyone's spin.
I've watched a few different reaction videos regarding the song and one thing everybody leaves out is the immense, beautiful, and soul gripping art of the video. Super powerful video.
His voice whispers…beckons…draws you in so you NEED to hear more…then rends and shreds your heart and flays your emotions alive…and makes you want to come back for more over and over again. Masterfully performed. Bravo!
It's not even the song that brings me to tears every time. It's the fact that a person can sing like this so frigging inspiring. I'm genuinely amazed at his voice.
David Draiman- the lead vocalist for Disturbed- has said in different interviews that he had to go to a place with his voice that he hadn't gone since he was a teenager when they recorded this cover. He grew up Jewish and was trained as a Cantor. Not to mention that his Great-Grandfather was the lead cantor at one of the largest Synagogues in Jerusalem so music is in his blood. Hope that gives you a little insight into the richness of his voice and where it comes from.
He also has a now permanent whole in his upper esophagus from a failed herniation surgery. Acid reflux is an ongoing issue he deals with, with diet. What a voice folks. Never to be out done in my opinion. I have never heard of Disturbed before, not a metal fan but this song I have fallen for in a big way. I was pretty young when Simon and Garfunkel's original came out and remember it well. David you nailed it! Thank you❤️
This is a very good cover. I also like Metallica's cover of Bob Seger's "Turn The Page" and April Wine's cover of King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man".
I have to agree KreshBACON. Every time I hear this cover it still blows me away. Rumors have been going around that their next album is going to be acoustic, so maybe more of this?
He did not change a single word or syllable in the song, but he managed to make it so much more powerful. Kudos to Draimen for that. His version of this song is amazing.
Simply put, David Draiman's cover of "The Sound of Silence" is probably the best cover of a song out there, and it is easily the absolute best that I have ever heard myself. There simply aren't words to describe it that actually do justice to the performance, and it is even more intense live.
I might catch a lot of shade for this one, but I will say that the only cover that even comes close (in my humble opinion) is Killswitch Engage's cover of Dio's Holy Diver!
The best cover of a song live is no question Bobby Hatfield Unchained Melody live. This is not even debatable. This was an amazing performance however. David is a generational voice and talent.
This version of Sound of Silence brings tears in my eyes every time I hear it. The way David’s builds up to the finale. Gosh! Words can’t explain it. You just have to let it in and it takes over your mind and body! Man! He has some amazing pipes! That voice and those piecing eyes.
My husband of 30 years has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. It’s in his pancreas, lungs, liver, and kidneys. We have been listening to music together as of late. A lot. I have no idea why I’m writing this. I guess I just wanted you to know you aren’t alone.
@@lisawines98 - thank you for sharing. I'm very sorry to hear about your husband. Cancer is a cruel thing. I'm glad that you have music to share with each other, and probably many memories as well. I know this must be a very difficult time for you and your family. I don't know you, but you're in my thoughts.
My mother's passing was the hardest time in her life and mine. Years later I still miss her terribly. Music helps, as does people being lovely to each other. My heart heart goes out to you all. 💙
Just a tip. You should not pause the video the first time you are watching it. If you do you will not get the full build up since everytime you pause it you will "land a little".
Eirik Arctander I see this comment I’m literally every reaction video ever. When tf are they gonna react in real time if they don’t pause it? If they keep it playing they’re guaranteed to miss something. I’d rather the reactor hear it and sacrifice the uninterrupted play through.
There's a great vid of David Draiman talking about making this cover and how apprehensive he was about taking on what is arguably one of the most iconic folk songs in history. What he has done is make it his own, from the completely different emotion, to the changes in timing, he reinvented this piece to speak to the souls of all who are privileged to have heard it. From old guys like me that grew up with this song, to a whole new audience just digging it now, David has set the bar to a whole new level. Music will never be the same thanks to this. The only word I had after sitting in stunned silence after my first listening was.... Powerful.
I completely agree! I grew up listening to the original version, yet this is the version that gives me goosebumps every single time. If someone were to ask me what song affects me every time I hear it, this would be it.
Absolutely great reaction. The song gives me goose bumps everytime. The voice, emotion, power and lyrics all form a perfect song. If you haven't watched the live performance on Conan yet you should. One of the best sounding live performances I have ever seen.
God did give us the warning back when S&G sang it but no one paid attention. They are all ears now! You can see his anger at the way our world has regressed.
Simon and Garfunkle saw a vision of the future when they wrote this song in the 60s. A lot of the song almost perfectly describes the smart phone age. "People talking without speaking" = texting "And the people bowed and prayed to the neon gods they made" = your head is always down in a bowing/praying position when youre looking down at your phone I could point out a few more lines but just listen closely throughout the song, it was a vision of the future without an understanding as to what exactly they were seeing so they described it the best they knew how.
Some things I have read that give this song all the more emphasis and power is that the Simon and Garfunkel version is kind of a warning things need to change. The Disturbed version is "angry" or expressing rage because we didn't head the warning. Both are so good in their own respects.
I’ve always loved the original with it’s soft prophetic message. It had a sadness to it. When I heard Disturb’s version, it began with sadness and built into great anger and rage that mankind did not listen and hatred reigns. Anyway, those are my thoughts many may not agree with my take on it. I absolutely ADORE this version. I can’t seem to get enough of it. I bought it from iTunes and I listen to it over and over again. His voice quality is amazing. It’s like he FEELS every single note.
The original is good but I absolutely love disturbeds cover SO much more!!! This is one of my favorite songs of all time!! David’s vocals blow me away in this song! The message is so important and I love how disturbed chose to depict it. This song always gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. I’m so glad you liked it so much!!!!
If you liked this cover, you would LOVE "Zombie" by Bad Wolves. It was going to be a cover with Dolores O'Riordan, but she passed away the day the song was to be recorded. Bad Wolves instead made it a tribute to her. It's easily one of the best covers I have ever heard!
I saw them perform that song the day it went platinum! Members of Five Finger Death Punch came out and presented them with the plaque! Awesome thing to see and such a great cover.
This guys voice is no baby boy tenor, that's for sure. Also take it from me, as a baritone voiced lad myself it's tough singing that low in chest, but of course baritones range from being able to do a good chunk of the bass register all the way to barely reaching the top of the bass register (the higher part also ranges of course). Either way, it takes a lot of skill to sing as low as he was at the beginning in chest very well and as full as he was doing it.
This is arguably the greatest cover ever, it's a masterpiece. I would listen to this all day every day but I don't want to get burned out on it. I listened to it about 10 times in a row a few months ago but tried to stay away from it from then, until now
its legit the cover i dislike the most. All day on every radio channel i cant listen to it. But good to see some people had better time with it, enjoy what you love. i pref the original.
it is a fantastic cover as is Johnny Cash's Hurt cover and much like that one the original artist (i believe it was Mr.simon in this instance) loved the cover as in his tweets he told people to go listen to it after he watched it on the late show i beelieve lol :D
The lead singer of Eleuvitie (Christian "Chrigel" Glanzmann) is much like this, he has amazing range on the scream vocals (a lot of screamers tend to lack that) and when he DOES sing it's a bloody revelation. They formed 2002. Arkona's vocalist Mascha Scream I will mention for the same reasons. They are same era. Ghost Brigade (2005) Much more recently however is a more relevant "excellent" vocalist; the band is Apocalypse Orchestra (described as medieval folk/doom... I dunno about the labels but fuckin check em out simply fantastic) formed in 2013. The vocalists harmonise beautifully and they have some gorgeous work, Garden of Earthly Delights is a must-listen imo. One of my favourites from the last decade for sure. You wanna know why we don't hear about the crap artists from the 60s, 70s or 80s? Because they faded into the background and were forgotten, same way the rubbish artists from this era will fade away in 10, 20 or 30 years from now.
Never heard of this band before. But OMG ! I fell in love with this guy. His voice is absolutely unbelievable. It’s so moving. It literally blew me away.
Have listened to this song since 1972, when one of my friends “borrowed” her brother’s Simon & Garfunkel album to play. I loved the song immediately but as I grew up and understood the lyrics, I felt the song demanded more anger and passion than Simon & Garfunkel could give it. David Draiman’s version is EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting to hear...this song is a call to arms...a reminder that remaining silent in the face of darkness makes you complicit! Particularly apropos now. Check out his collaboration with Myles Kennedy...absolutely breathtaking!
Suzanne Marie I feel the original was a warning to future generations and that this version conveys the outrage that warning was ignored. It’s always open to personal interpretation but I see it as a warning about technology. “Neon Gods”, “heads bowed” as in screen time, “talking without speaking” “hearing without listening”. The more technology connects us, the farther apart humanity becomes.
Erik Baldwin I don’t think it had anything to do with technology at all, if I’m being perfectly honest; it’s talking about hollow words, saying things without meaning it. Be it apologies or promises, “talking without speaking” is empty words. Then “hearing without listening” is ignoring people; in one ear, and out the other, and not thinking about what people say as a step to improve yourself. Then “writing songs that voices never shared” is basically people not expressing their emotions. The “neon god” is nothing more than valuing the things around you, the glitz and glamour, more than your personal interests and connections, family, and friends. It’s equally relevant both to Simon and Garfunkel’s time, and today.
@Lanta ChiDc So very obviously that is what it is, thank you for being the only other person I've seen with that mindset. Of course, it was written in 1964 so . . . but I think this kind of divisiveness was probably starting around then and Paul Simon was able to see it? Okay, I have heard he wrote it because of TV, but still, it is so apropos of the problems of the world in general with all the either/or, and never some of each. Everyone isn't always correct, and everyone isn't always wrong. And we can all use some respectful listening--and speaking for that matter. Empathy. Less GREED!
These two points of view are not conceptually exclusive. Technology has made it much easier to find others with the same views and ideologies, and this contributes to complacency in thought and action.
Patrick Dewey it is “ moses “ on mount sinai “ and the people baud and prayed “ to the neon God “ they med “ they “ saw the voice “ the writing ✍️ of the music 🎶 notes ???? That the pen “ used to write “ A bible “ my understanding “ yet mr “draimen “ you are “ a a A the best “
Near the end when he says "whispered" he actually achieves the singing ability of overtone. It's absolutely beautiful. We did this in an honors choir I was in years ago. It's very hard to do when you're trying to achieve and I don't believe that was even his goal.
This cover is the best cover of any song is the history of music to have ever been covered, I have been fortunate to see it live, it is more spine tingling live then the recorded version, especially with 8000 people singing it word for word with them
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower and Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From My Friends are the two best covers all time. I'm actually not a big fan of this cover, maybe its because I think the original is perfect and untouchable, but also because its not really the type of song that suits Disturbed.
Im such a wiener, I seen this live a couple of years ago, and lemme tell you. It was FUCKING BEAUTIFUL! 20,000 people lighting up the entire venue with their lights and lighters to this song was unreal. I teared up a little, those little things at a show are what elevate music to insane levels 🖤
I absolutely adore the original and this version. Both are perfect in their own rights. S&Gs Version is so simplistic. Just two voices and a guitar. Hearing Disturbeds version for the first time might let you think "Well. There was one voice and some instruments" because his voice is so fragile however powerful and rich, that you tend to only focus on it exclusively. But hearing it multiple times let's you turn your focus more onto the instruments and enjoy the tune even more. At least that is how I felt hearing it for the fist couple of times. It is one of the best covers of any song I have ever heard. Not many bands managed to crate a version of a song that is equal/better than the original of a classic song like Sound of Silence.
The song was written in 1964. It's a Folk music protest song. JFK had just been assassinated. Vietnam was ramping up. The Civil Rights movement was growing and getting louder. The Moon was coming. Technology was slowly taking over. The average person was overwhelmed. Fading into the background as the modem world was emerging. Their voices fading also as corporate America began to shape the new reality. Until from the people there was only The Sound of Silence.
Goddamit!! That is haunting. Makes it impossible to deny your own emotions. Beautiful. Until this point R.E.M.s Everybody Hurts was the most touching song I’d ever heard but this surpasses that song. And I’m a Slayer-Megadeth-Metallica-Death Angel die hard fan. This rips the emotion out of you and onto the surface every bit as effectively as thrash metal does. Transcendent!!
I say this song performed in concert 2 years ago today and he dedicated it to a young man of 17 or 18 who was killed by a drunk driver. It was one of the best and saddest moments of my life. It was amazing and they put on a good show.

My point being is David aka the lead singer of disturbed has a voice that can put you in a mood just by listening to his voice when he sings lol that kid after getting his ass kicked for some reason became a distant friend and every time i was about to get into a fight he would approach the person i was about to fight and always said dude your about to make a mistake fighting this guy. I dont know why but he was just always there to warn the people about me. Lol i always found it funny.

I almost start crying, every single time I hear this song... It´s truely a masterpiece... Distrubed is; hands down, my favorite metal band! Take a listen to the rest of the "Evolution" album - You´ll not regret it! David, is so unbelieveable tallented.
Being a person who was a teen when the first version of this song came out I thought no one could perform it the way the original artist did. I was blown away and so was the older version! This is music at it's highest level of performance. Disturbed changed this song forever and for the best ever!
Love this song. I read somewhere that when David Draiman did this song Chester showed his appraise for doing this song so well. Chester called David up directly and told him well done. David said he would never forget that.
Although David & Chester' where friends as well but I honestly wished that this song could of been sang by David at Chester's site where they had his eulogy... Later I was able to at least take my speaker and played this at the cite in the cemetery where it was held. I truly wished we could of had a place where we could lay flowers or even to mourn over a gravestone for him. As this would of been a perfect touch.... R.I.P CHESTER I DEDICATED THIS SONG TO U

Meanwhile, rap artists try to "sing"........
Actually, metal is about screaming and banging on a guitar. Occasionally, there is a guy here and there who get to say something and whose voices do not hide behind instruments, like in this song; but let us not take an exception and make it the rule.

He was still there as the staff was leaving - and his managers actually had to pull him away. Genuinely amazing.
I'd kill to be one of those fans. For a man who sings so deeply and powerful, he's such a soft spoken man as well.
Turns out that by scrunching your face like that and looking angry, certain tones and notes can be reached without overly straining your voice
@@karmanwilmot1648 okay?
Best comment I ever read about this cover was something along the lines of:
The original was a cautionary tale, a warning about where we would all be headed if we continued the way we were.
Totally agree
Thats metal af, thanks for that
Well said 😉🇨🇦💞🇨🇦
the perfect song about 2020, riots and virus included.
This version of this song gives me chills every damn time.
This is my first time listening i got 30 seconds in and i shuddered and got chills
I absolutely love what listening to this version does to me! I can listen and watch it over and over and never get bored with it...it's one of my all time favourites ❤
The vocals only version of this version is even better if you can imagine. When I tell you it hits your soul so fucking deep... It's unreal
I find myself even holding my breath.
David is actually a trained opera singer which is why he can sing the way he does. His voice is trained in a way that he can still do his "screams" and won't damage his vocal chords.
Heather Fuson and he was also “ a chazan “ ( a prayer 🙏 in a temple ;;)))) or started there in israel 🇮🇱
Oh neat I actually didn't know that.
Trained chazan and cantor by his grandfather
It's not "screams" its vocal grunges. You have to work different vocal muscles for a grunge and a scream

LetsGrindGames I've wondered what they thought
Joe Phinnell then now you know ;) they loved it! They even praised them for it!
Bobaflex does it way better
Dave Cobb in land where dreams are made up then I could see that but nah these did it the best! Everyone entitled to there own opinion and simon and Garfunkel said this was the best cover of there song so, yanoe I’ll keep listening to the main men ;)
LetsGrindGames you are correct some people just like whiney baby versions of a song that didnt have that original feel. David gayman crying into a microphone just isnt palatable for me personally.
: How much range does your voice have
David: Yes
🤣🤣
I would like, but it's at 69

HAHA check out my vids I don't have his power! I MORE THAN MAKE UP FOR IT WITH MY TROMBONE THOUGH! :P
Best comment.
this is almost a religious experience, I cried when I first heard it. I personally think it is the most perfect thing I have ever heard, EVER
First time I heard this a tear escaped when that vocal fry came through...
The anger and frustration are really prominent in this cover
EVER.
Prior to this, the only similar experience I’ve ever had was the choral version of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for strings. I’ve always loved the original (long before ever seeing Platoon) but something equally transformative happens when you put people’s voices to it rather than strings; definitely tear-worthy.
Agnus Dei: ruclips.net/video/AiuC_CaObbI/видео.html
It’s slower than the original, but there’s just something about the choral arrangement that just indescribably enhances the whole thing, much in the way Disturbed did here. Not to everyone’s taste, but if it is, you’ll know. :)
Almost
I do every time
“And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made” this line always grabs me as I feel it’s prophetic to the next lines... it’s also another warning to us all.
Its not by disturbed its a cover doen by them but its still pretty regardless
It goes to my soul!
Neon God they made= cell phones
People talking without speaking = texting
People hearing without listening = internet!
That is how I reacted to Queensryche -Silent Lucidity after going back and hearing it again as an adult. I cried like a broken hearted teenage girl.

David Draiman’s voice is insane. And yes, he was classically opera trained.
Cantorial. A little different.
@@bekkatheman Exactly. The training definitely shows though.
Trained to be a Kantor...but yes, still highly trained. 👍🏼💕💗
Metal is modern classical music
Peace bro.
Nazgulth Darkness to be exact(I mean when you said Disturbed’s done this style before). And, yes... I agree as well, buddy haha
Nazgulth disturbed has always been in my life and i will forever be a disturbed1.
In my opinion David Draiman is 2nd best singer in the world after Corey taylor and also Disturbed is 1 of my fave groups...
From what I've heard, Paul Simon said the same thing. He was actually moved to tears when he heard David's version.
I about cried when the song started and idk why
That was his intention. I’m so happy that it brought those emotions out of you!
Paul Simon said the song now belongs to Disturbed. What an honor. I felt the same way bro'.
I've watched a few different reaction videos regarding the song and one thing everybody leaves out is the immense, beautiful, and soul gripping art of the video. Super powerful video.
It's an opera in how it builds. It's a song you don't watch once. Ten times is still not enough. You were satisfaction in your reaction.
This is literally the 7th reaction video I watch TODAY!
It is amazing how much I love this cover.
ten thousand maybe more
I’ve watched over 100 I think, maybe 10,000 times or even more.
That growl that he builds up to in the final verses... ❤️
When you know what's coming it's fun to wait for the reaction.
Believe it or not, his live performance of this on conan is even better vocally
Sheri M one of the best live performances ever!
Yes that was insane. Showcases his voice even more and the instrumentals were fire.
Saw them in concert last year and this song was absolutely mindblowing!
Good call! This song, the cover, is my 4yo's favorite song. When she wants to hear it she specifically asks for the one "without the face" 😂
Sheri M I agree!!
And also schooled in classical singing,he's amazing vocalist(the best in my opinion).
Thank you❤️
Vikki Hamme well I guess we now know where the Star or David in The band's logo comes from

kreshBACON yea man for sure. I didn't like it when I first heard it. But then I heard them sing it live and I realized how powerful it was.
kreshBACON well said
Amen
@@rustyshackleford9381 That's also a really good cover
Johnny Cash’s Hurt cover also.
The best cover of a song live is no question Bobby Hatfield Unchained Melody live. This is not even debatable. This was an amazing performance however. David is a generational voice and talent.
I mean i really love 5 finger death punch’s version of bad company
But i have to agree
His range and the power in his voice is unmatched by any modern artist.
This version of Sound of Silence brings tears in my eyes every time I hear it. The way David’s builds up to the finale. Gosh! Words can’t explain it. You just have to let it in and it takes over your mind and body! Man! He has some amazing pipes! That voice and those piecing eyes.

David Draiman is incredibly versatile with his voice... he could sing opera as well i bet
He WAS classically trained.;)
I believe his first training and experience as a vocalist was as a cantor in a Jewish synagogue.
lachimiste1 and he learned from his dad, who was the head Cantor. And he has had operatic training.
That, I would love to hear.
David Draiman and Brent Smith singing colab... id die
Powerful.

Absolutely great reaction. The song gives me goose bumps everytime. The voice, emotion, power and lyrics all form a perfect song. If you haven't watched the live performance on Conan yet you should. One of the best sounding live performances I have ever seen.
Paul Simon himself REALLY LOVED this version, congratulated the band, and recommended it!!
He has the voice of a god. Gives me chills every single time.
Check out John Farnham from down under he’s awesome too and very underrated
Listening to this song is almost like a religious experience. It’s as if God himself is sending us a warning.
I agree.....it sounds like God is singing through him! A beautiful voice! What a gift he was given! He uses it so well!
God did give us the warning back when S&G sang it but no one paid attention. They are all ears now! You can see his anger at the way our world has regressed.
"This is the most beautifull thing i have ever heard..."
Ohh wait Alex, it gets way better. ;)
my thought exactly 🙃
I always imagine David saying hold my beer.
Oh it gets so much better lol
Simon and Garfunkle saw a vision of the future when they wrote this song in the 60s. A lot of the song almost perfectly describes the smart phone age.
"People talking without speaking" = texting
"And the people bowed and prayed to the neon gods they made" = your head is always down in a bowing/praying position when youre looking down at your phone
I could point out a few more lines but just listen closely throughout the song, it was a vision of the future without an understanding as to what exactly they were seeing so they described it the best they knew how.
Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Was bawling like a baby when I saw them perform it live.
Richard Irvin that is a really great cover too
Richard Irvin right
Disagree.
I saw them perform that song the day it went platinum! Members of Five Finger Death Punch came out and presented them with the plaque! Awesome thing to see and such a great cover.
God: David, do you want the voice of an angel or a demon?
David: Yes.
If you're a baritone, I think you'd really enjoy Peter Steele, the late frontman of Type O Negative.
This is arguably the greatest cover ever, it's a masterpiece. I would listen to this all day every day but I don't want to get burned out on it. I listened to it about 10 times in a row a few months ago but tried to stay away from it from then, until now
It's good but I prefer this one
its legit the cover i dislike the most. All day on every radio channel i cant listen to it. But good to see some people had better time with it, enjoy what you love. i pref the original.
I don't listen to the radio so I wasn't affected baby that
it is a fantastic cover as is Johnny Cash's Hurt cover and much like that one the original artist (i believe it was Mr.simon in this instance) loved the cover as in his tweets he told people to go listen to it after he watched it on the late show i beelieve lol :D
Don't think you've heard dio & yngwie version of dream on. This is far from it.
They don't make singers like that anymore.
This song was recorded in 2015.
Lol the point was that Disturbed has been doing it since 1994, and today's artists, by and large, are kinda crappy. :)
Ghost Brigade (2005)
Much more recently however is a more relevant "excellent" vocalist; the band is Apocalypse Orchestra (described as medieval folk/doom...
Because they faded into the background and were forgotten, same way the rubbish artists from this era will fade away in 10, 20 or 30 years from now.
nope
Dan, David learned to sing in the synagogue...they are many that are learning the same way he did.
People talking without speaking.
People hearing without listening.
You're watching without seeing.
It is impossible for me to listen to this song without getting goosebumps up my back and down my arms

Brother, if you think THAT was impressive, you have GOT to hear the live version from the Conan O'Brian show!
YEP I AGREE I THINK THAT THEIR COANAN PERFORMANCE COMPLETELY ANNIHILATES THIS VIDEO VERSION
yeah, and he was SICK when he played Conan.
@@craigf6277 he was literally down with the sickness
The Conan version is way, way better than this one
I was scrolling waiting to see if anyone would mention this... that performance was powerful 👏🙌
This song is a perfect showcase of David Draiman's Vocal range and ability. Fantastic version of an amazing song.
I say this song performed in concert 2 years ago today and he dedicated it to a young man of 17 or 18 who was killed by a drunk driver. It was one of the best and saddest moments of my life. It was amazing and they put on a good show.
If you want another beautiful song, try Johnny Cash covering "Hurt." It brought me to tears.
Yeah, Trent Reznor even said that it was Johnny's song now.
Thank you for acknowledging it as a cover. Trent Reznor never gets the credit he deserves for writing it.
@@kimberlyh.1090 Many haven't realized what an incredible musical score composer Trent has become. Tons of major motion picture have his fingerprints all over them. He is a musical genius that is oftentimes underappreciated.
@@alexanderkelley117 Absolutely true, and it's a travesty. He's composed so many good songs and movie soundtracks and people don't even know, The Social Network (Hugh Jackman was an absolute fangirl lol), The Girl With the Dragon tattoo (US version), Gone Girl.
Trent Reznor is so good that he should win an Oscar!
This version never gets old for me, just love it! His voice is awesome, goosebumbs through out the song. Thanks for this!
"Where did this come from?!" Straight from heaven dude.
Rammstein - mein herz brennt

OrangeCrush Gaming wow I've never cared about a reply less in my entire life. I'm not even gonna ask on what standard you're judging my suggestion. Keep your opinions to yourself.
Yes, but piano version!!!
If one isn't moved by this, their soul needs healing. A good day to be human.
I am 60 years old, and this is absolutely beautiful! So powerful!!!
This has been my favorite song every since it came out, i listen to it with headphones and a fireplace with a glass of wine, or whiskey depending on the moment. I loved your reaction to this because it shows how intense it actually is. Thanks for making this video, i loved it! Peace.
That guy gives me goosebumps with that amazing voice.
One can actually feel the power of his voice, pure intensity.
I have heard this song AT LEAST 100 times and I STILL get chills hearing it! IMO this is better than the original.
If you ever hear him sing this live it’s even more hair-raising it’s just so good. His voice is this good without auto tune.
“This mans got some pipes on him dude”.... wait for it.
Now you need to hear a song from their album 10,000 Fists. Either 10,000 Fists (the song) or their cover of Land of Confusion (video version)
Personally i prefer "Deify" or I'm Alive.. But ten Thousand Fists is def worth it

I was listening to pray or prayer i forgot the songs name when i was in school walking to where my grandmother used to pick me up from and this kids older 18 year old cousin elbowed my brother outside of school and his younger cousin who was in my grade started saying shit like he would and could kick my ass and this went on for a while until that day i was walking to where i get picked up by my grandmother and the younger cousin hit my CD player i take out my earphones i tell this kid i dare you to do it again and well he did and after that im sure you could imagine what happened next lol.
Hypn0tic K.O
Prayer of the Refugee ??
Stricken is the best song on that album.
I still remember the first time I heard this, it was on my old Sony radio, I had chills going up and down my spine and goosebumps. David's voice is legendary and should be a national treasure.
No matter how many times I hear this song, it never gets old.
Paul Simon himself tagged this cover as his favorite out of all the covers of this song he's heard.
Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames
Yeah, it's time for Power Metal!
SO STRONG! Disturbed brings new gravitas to the lyrics. This is a great song and a cover that equals it. Fabulous. Period.
Alex: "This boy's got some pipes on him"!
Me: Just wait....
What you're talking about is where the goosebumps hit me...
